      @@TellurdogIsayhi its a psychological/"luck" thing, you get 4 rounds in a solid grouping and its akin to feeling like you're about to get a hole-in-one, you take the shot as you're thinking about what you say when you brag on the online forums, and next thing you know you fucked it all up because you got over-confident.

    I see many people in the comments stating that the reduction in barrel equating to less accuracy is too bigger trade off, those groupings show the accuracy is still fine, but the application is moving in the woods with a suppressor with ease, that's a really versatile usable gun, proper hunting rife.

    I recently finished my Aero epc9 with fixed stock and 16 in barrel. Def my favorite rifle, even within the limits of the 9mm bullets at higher velocity. Lots of bad press on Magpul Glock mags, they are perfection in my pea shooter. Vortex Sparc on top. Used Hogue aluminum handguard out front, love it no holes and I can drill and modify as needed. And I have Strike Industries latch less charging handle. And finally, in my area 9mm ammo is available again.

    Ruger essentially makes this now from the factory. They call it the Ruger American "Silver". Comes with the Magpul stock. 16.1" in 308. 18" in 6.5CM. Threaded. Looks more like a bull barrel. non-tapered. It's about $800. I'm thinking it's cheaper getting it with the stock on it already and no barrel cutting/threading. Seems like an interesting concept. Shortish barrel on a bolt gun, so very appealing to can owners. I wanna pick one up since it's so affordable. I'm having trouble finding a weight on it though. Could be very useful in situations where you're on the move, need something light, quiet (for super sonic anyway), maneuverable, etc... There's no videos about it though.

    I picked up a stock American .308 last year and just recently started it as a project gun. I threw the Magpul stock on there and picked up a few 10-rounders which is such an improvement over that rotary stock mag. I also ended up mounting the sling slightly different than you did. I used the pre-marked holes on the bottom of the stock to drill in some sling screws. I just find it more comfortable that way. A local gunsmith has the rifle now - I had the same issue that you did with your threading. We ended up deciding to chop it down to 15.5 and pin&welding a SiCo ASR mount (5/8x24, phew) on there, now just waiting through this lovely Form 4 waiting period. All in all, I'm excited to get it back and see how it shoots, really excited to have it as a project gun. I ended up leaving the smith just the barrel and the action so I could do some custom stippling on the Magpul stock. Great vid and great project rifle.

    I had bought this in 243 for my boys. I found hand loading with a faster powder (closer to an AR) for the 16 inch barrel gives much better groups. Now I find myself grabbing theirs before and of mine if I'm shooting for precision or a long hike in a hunting trip.

    My RA ranch in .308 is really picky for ammo but mysteriously puts cheap core-lokt rounds into a 3/4 inch group at 100m.. for my favourite long range bullets i had to load my own. None of the factory loads work as well in the shorter 16" barrel

  • @flighttherapybullisticfpv133
    @flighttherapybullisticfpv133 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I have found shorter barrels are a bit more picky when it comes to factory loads.. try handloading some rounds for it and i gaurantee you you will end up with a 1/2 MOA gun.. just something ive noticed with shorter barrels on bolt guns

      I'd have to ask my gunsmith buddy but it seems he had a trade off. shorter barrel possibly made it less accurate but easier to carry around the woods, but the magpul stock took the accuracy back to what it was originally. Plus the stock makes the whole rifle more useable as a whole. I can't say much about the optic because i've never shot through a high end optic, just cheap hunting ones. I have the same gun he does but Its all original, the stock sucks on them, they're just cheap and kind of flimsy. My buddy has the magpul stock or something like it on his remington and it is a dream to shoot.

      Completely agree nordefense ! My Ruger American has done numerous times a 0.62 - 0.78 in it's factory representation at 100 yard's with premium Hornady ammo. My stock was one of factory revised so it doesn't touch the barrel anywhere like some of the earlier one's .
      Believe mine is called A.i style or one with Magpul 5 rounds. So I'm not changing a thing under a inch & have shot under 3/4 inch several times so throughly impressed. Wouldn't be hard to be sub moa at 200 with my gun.

    • @mirrorsbrightly
      @mirrorsbrightly 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nmhornd That's what I am doing at the moment. I went with the Ruger American Compact and then purchase an OEM regular stock. That way the barrel is 2" shorter and is factory threaded (muzzle brake and suppressor-ready). The regular Ruger American's have a lighter barrel than the Preditor but I prefer this for weight savings. This will make for a lighter and more compact gun for backcountry backpack hunts. And when my boys are old enough to join me hunting I can put the compact stock back on.

      @I am a Neo Nasty honestly curious on how you use your rifles. I spoke to the purpose of this rifle in the video and it will fill that role in spades. Do you "like" the idea of a accurate rifle? Do you shoot groups and take photos of them? This was designed as a project to be carried and employed hunting. And to the end of accuracy, it is probably way more capable than it was with me behind it. :)

    • @EyesOfI
      @EyesOfI 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe Niobium was attempting to quote Col. Townsend Whelen. The quote goes, "Only accurate rifles are interesting." Larry Porterfield, CEO of Midway USA, drops this quote at the beginning of their videos that pop up all the time on TH-cam (or at least used to).
      Because nothing else was said, I don't think jumping on him with a quick, seemingly sarcastic, "cool" makes much sense.

    • @Niobium23
      @Niobium23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn’t meant to be a direct quote, more of extending that idea to this rifle that seems to me to not be very interesting. Shooting a good group on paper is the basic accuracy that you build your shooting platform off of. I was infantry in the US Marines. Accuracy is everything, otherwise we are just lighting off Chinese fireworks. I can back my shit up.

      @@KitBadger I have a r700 that's very similar but I ended up with better results. My 700aacsd shot 1moa out the box but the magpul stock, good glass, and a trigger had it shooting 1/2 moa consistently until i got about 4k rounds down the barrel now it's back to 1moa and ready for a new barrel.
      Problem is a new barrel cost more than a new rifle and i can swap all my upgrades to a new rifle for less than gunsmith fees considering the lack of gunsmiths available.
      I was quoted 1400 for a new barrel installed, threaded for a specific device to shoulder correctly. Which if he had to machine receiver threads I would understand but it's a remage barrel.
