This Is My Hunting Rifle (Ruger American .270Win + Vortex Strike Eagle)

  • In this video, I break down my current main hunting rifle setup, and review the pros/cons of the rifle itself as well as the scope I have mounted on it, and the various accessories. I think this combination is the ultimate budget build that also fits the bill for a serious hunter who, like me, wants to prioritize hunting alot, every single year, and harvest animals consistently and often. Really can't go wrong with this setup!
    If anyone watching has any suggestions for me, please comment. Or if you work for Magpul and want to make me a long-action stock for this rifle, please do so and DM me!
    As always, Like, Share, Subscribe, and show the love :)

    I bought a Browning Xbolt. A Hells Canyon Speed Long Range 280AI. I ordered a McCarbo trigger spring. I got it down to under 2 pds. I went with a Leupold scope. A VX6 HD 4x24x52mm TMOA reticle. I bought this setup to take on a spring bear hunt. Next spring hopefully. I am going to either Idaho or Montana. I am fixing to start load development.

    I went with a Leupold 1 piece base 20 moa with built in level. Them Ruger rifles are shooters. Take a Dremel tool. Clean the barrel channel out. So it's not touching. Then bed the rifle. My Leupold is illuminated reticle.

    Boyd’s gun stock is what I’ve been looking at

    • @SawtoothWild
      @SawtoothWild  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I ordered a Boyd's 2 years ago. And when I got it, I returned it the very next day. It had deep sanding marks from a sander, paint splatter and runs, unfinished milling job for action, my gun wouldn't fit without trimming a ton. And I didn't want to hack it up and not be able to return it if it still didn't work. One of the biggest let downs of my life.

    I liked your honest review. I'm thinking about getting a Ruger like yours. How accurate is your gun with store bought ammo???? Thanks

    • @SawtoothWild
      @SawtoothWild  ปีที่แล้ว

      So far it's killed 3 bears and about 6 deer, so accurate enough for me! I have been having a hard time picking ammo because some days I get alot of great accurate shots, and bad with certain store-bought ammo loads

    • @SawtoothWild
      @SawtoothWild  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And then other days, it's exactly the opposite. The bad-shooting loads shoot well and the good-shooting loads shoot poorly lol. So I'm starting to think it's either just me, or my shooting rest is too rigid. I want to play around with it a little more once it gets above freezing here, but then with ammo availability being how it has been, that might be a challenge

  • @Larimuss
    @Larimuss ปีที่แล้ว +2

    $500.. damn it’s $1200 AUD, like $800 I guess USD. In Australia… interesting you spend more on the scope. Good review though, this is a real review and good details. A bit long but great info.

    • @SawtoothWild
      @SawtoothWild  ปีที่แล้ว

      My philosophy is to spend as much on the scope as you do your gun. If the gun is only a $200 gun, then a $200 scope is probably all you need since the gun itself probably can't shoot well enough to need a nice scope. A $3,000 rifle would be seriously underperforming with a $200 scope. You'd get $200-gun-quality-shots with a $3000 gun, also doesn't make sense.

      Finally got my scope, My rail is a split rail My rings fit on one side but not the other Too narrow For the 34mm, When you ordered your rail Did you have to give a certain size when you ordered ?
      Would it be A 20Moa
      American ruger 270 win.

    • @SawtoothWild
      @SawtoothWild  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@docbarcando No sir. The 20MOA would be the height of the rail/bases, not the slot size. The narrow slot is a "weaver" size, it won't fit a "picatinny"-sized ring, but a picatinny size slot would fit a weaver-sized ring. You either need to replace that single weaver base with a picatinny-slotted base, or get a one-piece picatinny rail like I did.
