Thanks snocrushr. All around best video out there for my dirty Rebel 250 carb. Sat for almost 2 years, didn't drain the bowl, didn't add Sta-Bil. Started, but only idled rough with the choke half way all the time. Took it apart, cleaned everything with new Gumout spray. Thought I cleaned the jets and enrichment valve, put it back in, but it only improved a little.
Second time through: Reviewed your video and realized idle jet was still TOTALLY plugged. Found the right size copper wire and poked out a load of dirt - not varnish - this was some kind of corrosion. More cleaner, blew everything out with the compressor, back together, started right up and runs like new.
So listen to this video! If you're not sure about the jets and emulsion tubes, buy new ones. Drain your bowl if you're not riding for a while. And ride more!

Glad you found it of some use, cheers and ride safe.

I cleaned the CBR125 carburetor with White spirit/Naphtha from the Drugstore and a brass brush in a bowl. And works fine too. Looks and work like new, no special cleaner required.

Thank you for this. My '95 Honda XL 250 was missing and jerky when applying throttle and I thought it needed a carb cleaning. First I checked the spark plug, totally carboned up, then the air filter - filthy. I replaced those and it's running great now. Smooth acceleration through the entire power band. It's got 53,000km on it so maybe a carb cleaning like this will help too. I'm not convinced I can do it yet!

Just spent a bunch of time rebuilding my xr100r carb...before service bike would barely start or stay running, I cleaned everything, jets, bowl, the whole nine, now it starts right up and ldles, but you hit the throttle to excel and it spits and pops...is the float supposed to be set "level" when held upside down with the bowl off.?"my float was sagging down, my bottom outside screw is 2 1/4 turns out. Now what?

I tapped the JIS cross-head screws with a small hammer to loosen them up and they came out fine with a PZ1 screwdriver & body weight (CMX250).

Great little posting... was quite anxious about taking apart my bike to clean the carburetor but like a parent after their second or third child, I am much less worried about 'hurting' the bike. :0) Like the Newcastle but have you tried any of the Scottish Highland beer? Cheers...and thanks. :0)

in my experience, regular old carb & choke cleaner will badly distort the float bowl o-rings. for that reason, i have never used it on the rubber-tipped float needles. i noticed that you tossed the float needle right into your combustion chamber cleaner so i guess you have found that it doesn't damage those at all ? by the way, thanks for spreading the gospel re: JIS screws and screwdrivers.

The problem is if something surprisingly come off, above all that components linked to springs, it would be a nightmare trying to find out how they were originally and you may end ip taking all the mess to the mechanic lol 😆
