    This is the BEST video! I have never done any motorcycle repair. I have a 1985 Honda Rebel 250 that was left outside for 3 years. Watching this video, I removed the carburetor, took it apart, cleaned it and put it all back. Motorcycle started right up!! Thank you for posting this!!

    You are a god to me!! I just saved myself at least $300 on a Carb rebuild,. Your video was so precise and informative that I completed the entire process AND my motorcycle actually started without any adjustments needed. Wow you should do more DIY repair videos. If your're not already a youtube star you will be!! My issue was I would be riding down the street comfortably, and out of nowhere, the throttle would actually stumble and quickly everything on the bike would just stop incuding the engine. If I sat and waited a few minutes it would start up again and just repeat the whole scenario over and over again.
    Well thanks to you, I discovered a VERY TINY piece of the tubing I'm guessing, stuck very close to one of the jets. Fast forward to bike reassembled and BAM, that was my issue. I can't thank you enough for this video. It is brilliant.

To my fellow people who are also doing this: watch out for stripping screws and that rubber thing is literally the worst. If your bike is super old like mine that rubber thing will break but at least you can order the part online really easily.

    Great video. The only little extra thing I do is to take the rubber diaphragms and coat them with a thin film of silicone grease (not petroleum grease) because it conditions the rubber and will keep the diaphragms from drying out over time.

    Excellent video on this job! I just finished cleaning the jets on an a Rebel and moving the carb back enough to clear the two mounting bolts on the engine was the worst part of the job. I even considered removing some of the front engine mount bolts to let the motor tilt slightly forward to get the clearance needed, but pushing the front lip of the groove in the air cleaner boot back into the air box gave me the room I needed. Finessing the lip of the boot back through the air box after the carb was installed was a little tricky, but much easier than trying to pry the carb far enough back with the boot in place.

      @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@a52091ekt Hi there, thanks for your interest! Your neutral light being on all the time could be caused by 2 things only. First ...the neutral switch could be bad or Second ...the wire connected to it is rubbing against the frame or the engine someplace and picking up Ground. The way the neutral light works is the positive is supplied with key ON all the time to the light bulb and the neutral switch supplies the ground for the light bulb ...so when you click into the neutral the ground is ON and the light bulb illuminates. I would disconnect the wire from the switch and see if the light is OUT ...if YES you will need new switch if the light is still ON trace the wire to find where is touching the ground. Hope you will find this helpful and please subscribe to help me out.

    1000 Thumbs up for this video. I only wish you had shown the replacement sequence in the same detail as the removal - in case there were any tips or tricks to be gleaned from it. My wife's 2007 Rebel has 450 miles on it, but sat for quite some time. It is finicky to start, but one warmed up runs fine. I believe her idle is too low and more importantly, her throttle has a flat spot that cause the engine to stumble and sputter - even shut off. Not good when you trying to learn to ride! Based on this video I believe I can diagnose this issue (accelerator pump issue). THANKS!

    7:00 If your cir-clip cotterpin has about had it, you can make a new one out of a small paperclip. Just strip off the plastic coating around the paperclip if it has it on there (mine did) and the paper clip wire will be the right diameter. Insert it through the hole, and bend a little section into an S shape with the hole passing through the center of the S, and clip it off.

The only thing is that normally the Rebel has to use the ‘choke’ to start, but now it won’t. It will only start, and run with the choke lever in the upper position - but it runs and starts great! I’m just curious if I reinstalled it wrong, or if the choke lever has to be in a certain position for it to be reinstalled. I cleaned it just as you showed - I’m just wondering if I did something wrong.

      Hi Jorge,
      sometimes the carburetor will flood when it's empty after working on it and the pressure of the gas coming into it for the first time over powers the float. Try to start the bike with the petcock off and let it run for a minute an open it back up...also is your gas tank clean inside?? you can add little inline fuel filter to stop dirt coming into the carburetor...also there is times when you just need to open the carburetor back up and double check everything . Hope this helps...please subscribe to my channel to help me out...good luck!

    My dream is to have a mechanic like you! It was true that at the beginning of my work I had a little trouble because in my model (this is the first model Rebel 250 1985) there is a different attachment to the engine - there are no two screws but a round sleeve). Other work thanks to your advice is a pleasure of work. However, I have a question because in the kit (kit) in addition to jets, the gasket was a metal washer and a rubber ring smaller than 1/4 inch. When washing the carburetor I found the same (metal washer and rubber ring) at the bottom of the dish. Where do you think their place is in the carburetor ?? Regards, Mike.

    • @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs
      @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike... thanks for the positive feedback!!! It means a lot to me.
      First think on my mind for the location of your washer and o-ring could be under the air /gas mixture screw. They are hard to get out( usually you need straight pick to fish them out)… however they could also fall out on there own if you took the screw and the small spring out. Let me know if that was it...hope you get it together soon!

      However, there is such a thing. A cold motorcycle starts up without moving the choke lever. What did I do wrong again? Thanks for all, best regards Mike from Canada.

      I would take it apart and replace the float needle..also inspect the overflow tube inside the float bowl for cracks...if the bike is running good if might be just defective/damaged float bowl or the drain bolt is not sealing or being loose...hope this helps. At 20 minutes in
    You talk about the accelerator pump. The top part where the three screws go in. You spray carb cleaner through one hole and it comes out the square side
    Mine is still clogged what should I do
    Good video
    Wanted to point out there's no explanation in the beginning on how to get the choke cable out of the carburetor safely

      make sure your slider is moving freely and the rubber diaphragm is not ripped and it is seated properly...if it idles well you have issue with air or gas restriction under power...so start there and let me know. The slider must move gradually up as you accelerate allowing more fuel via needle and more air by opening up...

    • @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs
      @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      only think I can come up with is that who ever opened the plug that is over the air/gas mixture screw from the factory did not remove it completely and just drilled hole in it. That would prevent the screw from coming out. If this is the case just screw a wood type screw and remove the rest of the plug....this is the best I can do for you without seeing what you got...hope it helps and please subscribe to help my channel grow...good luck

    • @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs
      @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That happens quite often on any carburetor job. . first you want to make sure you have a really good screwdriver that is not worn out ...if you do you could use a hammer to hit the screwdriver few times that could help loosen the screw also I use impact screwdriver which with every hit of a hammer turns the screw a little... sometimes if I have room I use a small vise grips pliers and grab the screw from the side... I know it's annoying ... you'll get them out. Thanks for watching and please subscribe to see more videos in the future

      @NYGiants15. They have them for sale on Amazon . I have the “ Hozan” brand , they come in set of 4 , I paid $17-$18 for them. Also I have a “ Vampliers” extractor pliers, in a case that some of the screws are to stuck, I use the 5” and 6.5” when working with small screws. Amazon sells the Vampliers too. My hardware stores also do not carry the JIS screwdrivers.
