FYI: Sold the mighty van, mach 1, S600, and the 745i is up for sale... So there's room for more additions to the hooptie fleet!

I have a 2003 Land Cruiser fully loaded with 330,000 miles on it, and it’s amazing. It’s never had any major issues and it’s been in my family since we bought it in 2002. I love these cars so much.

A place I worked a few years ago had a Tundra with that 4.7L engine. Although it got terrible mileage (~14 mpg hwy, with cruise on), it had a bit over 400K miles when it was traded in, still running fine, not using oil, etc. Regular maintenance was it. If that's the case with your Lexus, you still have (relatively) trouble-free miles ahead.

A fully functional hydrolic suspension after 300k. Mercedes, Land Rover and BMW should take note. Those are the only car's my family owned. From the late 80's on up we've had all models come and go. I can seem to recall a day where they didn't work, even after being totaled.

Hey Hoovie - awesome videos, I watch every week. Love your work. My family ran an LX470 from new for 13 years and it never missed a beat. Only thing that needed replacing was the steering rack - natural for a car that spent it's life in car parks. Sold it for wayyyyyy more than we thought it was worth in 2 days! Also had a third of the kilometres than yours has... Was a car very close to our hearts - we miss it! Definitely regrettable keeping our IS250 over it!
We replaced it with a 2016 Porsche Cayenne Diesel (3.0 Turbo 6). It's a great car but again, we definitely miss the LX470!
Hooe you enjoy the car as much as we enjoyed ours. Looking forward to seeing what yoy do next!
    Cheers, James

This is one of your best purchase's yet!! Totally logical. You know better than I do that Toyota and Lexus are some the most reliable automobiles out there (curse my love for BMW). Fix the seat, re-wrap the steering wheel, and a get yourself a trunk. This could replace the $300 Jeep, not that the Jeep is bad either. Just sayin.' Finally a good investment for Hoovies Garage. You have a gem on your hands. Add off road tires, do a proper service maintenance, add an ARB front bumper, skid plates and rock bar to protect the body and you can take it everywhere in your expedition. I bet this Lexus never seen dirt road on their 350K miles. Time to take the icon to they roots and proof on your channel that those Toyota's are build for life.

Get a dual rear swing out for a spare tire and gas or water cans. Also Get an Engel Fridge and dual battery set up. Also, consider a Titan fuel tank that is a bolt up which will extend your fuel range. Build yourself a nice cabinet set up that is functional and easy to use. You may also want some LED lights, removable winch with receivers in the front and rear. Look at the WARN Removable with the Synthetic line.
So much to consider, but just get out and enjoy. Oh, get a hard shell rooftop tent as well, it will be worth it the long run.
Have fun and enjoy the trails and outdoors.
    Mike

In the US people think real trucks equate to some lifted piece of shit rather than vehicles like this. The market here is pretty different. So that's great news for people who actually know about trucks. I bought a GX470 which is the equivalent of the Prado for that very reason.

    • @sashoxxx
      @sashoxxx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I own a 120 Prado. Bought it new in 2005, has the diesel D4D. At this point and time it has 918 000 km's. Also have a 200 series, 13 model, again a diesel. But that's barely broken in at 130-ish K km's.
I've had a 95 Prado before that and a beat up 80 series for the trails.
I was looking for a GX470 this summer and there were only 3 listen for all around my location. Cheapest one was 18k Euros. Wasn't in best of shapes either. The cleanest example (at the time) was 30k E.... 30k... E... and I've seen more expensive ones also. There is a freaking reason for that ;) Land Cruisers are the best of the best when it comes to capability, durability, resale value, build quality and materials; They are just insanely tough and extremely capable offroaders. Nothing comes close on all of the points mentioned, and that's exactly why they cost so much on the used market.
Any Land Cruiser owner knows that, just ask if they love their vehicle ;)

I think I got a better deal, last year I purchased a 2000 land cruiser with 220’000 miles in very good condition, it actually passes state inspection and emissions with no problem, it only has two small scraps on the front bumper, and I got it for $2700

ARB bumpers front and back, keep the stock suspension if you like adjustable ride, swap the seat on, plenty on ebay, swap the rear door out, fluids changed, new wheels and tires and she'll be ready to go. Maybe proper locking diffs if you really plan to overland hardcore. More lights too. The stock headlights are not great.

That rust hole in the back seems to happen on all landcruisers. Water seeps into the tailgate and rusts it from the inside while rusting out the rear latch mechanism. They didn't give you the third row seats?! I happen to have a pair if you're interested lol. I love the 100 series landcruisers. Best truck I ever owned. Enjoy it...oh and inspect the timing belt when you get a chance. That is the Achilles heel of the 4.7.
