My 2005 started smoking like a 60's advertising salesman. It was the rubber membrane on the oil separator. Porsche wanted over $800 plus labor for the whole assembly but I found just the membrane from a guy in Russia for $15 shipped. Worked like a charm.
@scottkashuba3476 I know your comment was from a long time ago, but how the hell do you find a $15 part for a Porsche Cayenne from a guy in Russia? Where do you look?
same question as above. Porsche store usually shark people 100%, but 15 is way too cheap
@@boyracer3477 probably ebay
Haha talk about a price difference! Porsche knows how to charge you!
You know you're in America when a Porsche Cayenne is a "medium size car"
A Land Cruiser or Excursion or Hummer are Huge ... Porsche is actually on the small side of SUVs ... IE .. Look at Honda Pilot , Chevy Traverse , Dodge Durango , Chevy Tahoe ... etc... The Cayenne is medium across the whole line up of SUVs and competes with the Mercedes M Series / BMW X5 / Volvo 90 . With only 2 rows of seating, it is on the small side and not very practical ... but practicality is NOT what you are really thinking about when you buy a Porsche, is it?
Simon Bonski I'd love to see my excursion on some european backroads.
You're right though that "mid-size" in the USA is "full-size" in europe for most things.
Ilmari Satomaa Small to some of us.
Worth noting about Europe is that it differs a lot between countries. Scandinavians tends to drive a lot larger cars than Italians for example. Mainly because the streets in Sweden or Denmark tend to be larger than those in Italy as well as people feel safer in the snow with a somewhat larger car. But I'm guessing that in america it differs a lot between states.
Ilmari Satomaa you know you're short when a Porsche cayenne is "full-sized"
People have no idea how stupid fast these things are. I miss this car.
Tavarish u fix your lambo and put it on the dyno
Yooooooo
man u and hoovies garage are the best

Tavarish u the charred lambo dude?
Tavarish Ayyyyy I watch you
I've had my 06 for 3years and i use it as my everyday driver, its very reliable. Mine is hitting 250k miles in a few months. I feel its better than the newer models
Ekow Ghartey Considering buying one the same year. 89k miles. Are they expensive to maintain??
Griffin Melton maintenance is very much like any other European car in America. If you go to the dealership, you’ll be milked dry. I have being using these German cars for a while now, but my mechanic on the side does a good job. I just buy my parts from the dealership. The best thing is, anytime I repair it, I don’t have to reset anything for the check engine light to go off. Unlike my BMWs and my Mercedes
true..... just keep the oil changed u should be fine
Still going strong!?
My 06 S with 340hp V-8 is at 223K now and my friendly mechanic has kept bills low and my German specialist keeps the electrical gremlins in check. I got a total of about $10K in it and it is a fun daily driver unless you are commuting at 15 mpg. I also use Achilles Desert Hawk UHP's on it, $100 each at Simple Tire, load balancing improves ride and they match OEM specs. Gonna drive is til it's dead. Even pulled up some small stumps since it has trailer package...LOL.
My Cayenne has, in 16 years, only required replacement of the windscreen washer bottle.
So you have never put gasoline or diesel in it
@@claudethesilentman7841 lop
So no brakes usage either? Seems that you never ran it.
@@sebastiend.5335 I'd consider brakes to be a wear and tear item, along with tires, belts, etc., windshield fluid bottle isn't.
@@lukeheffernan I see your point.
All the ‘cheapest model in America’ cars all must be reserved for youtubers 🤔
Delbert Grady hoovie also has access to dealer auctions, where you find cars at under half the cost you would at a dealer
Seems expensive. I saw some for sale here now for 1/3 Less. Just depends if cooling pipes have been replaced or not as those tend to brake.
theyre the ones with cash to spend on dumb cars that no one needs to buy... its fun to see though and imagine "yeah, if i had a spare 8-10k laying around id love to buy that car"
you gotta go to the auctions i got a jaguar 03 s type 4.2 v8 for $2500 still running great only change brakes cost $800 thats it so far had it for 3years
Mike Conkey coming from a guy that posts videos of his cat and on your treadmill 💯

0:03 OMG A classic red 911 wtf
And he calls it a crappy old Porsche at 11:49
That’s not a turbo. It’s a factory non-Turbo rear spoiler on a narrow body coupe
At least that’s what I can see from my phone :)
Is that hyperbole? ;-) or sarcasm?
Konstantinos good eye
Bought a 2004 Turbo earlier this year for under $10k, with 135,000 on the odometer. Insurance company rated it as a "low mileage" vehicle (less than 10k a year). All recalls had been performed. Vehicle is in pristine condition and is the best handling, most comfortable long-distance traveling vehicle I've ever had.
Dave Reid if one is on a budget, is it worth buying it? is it good?
@@tomzzx I would say well worth the investment!! Porsche has sold more Cayennes than any other model since they were introduced, and with the Macan, the new Cayenne Coupe, and the Taycan how can you go wrong!!
@@tomzzx if you can wrench yourself it is a hell of a deal. The first owner ate the depreciation and you can still own a nice vehicle. Even if you do the normal maintenance stuff yourself like brakes, oil, air filters, and headlights you should be good. That small stuff that cost 59$ for a Chevy will put you back 3 to 5 hundred at a shop for these. ECS tuning is a great place to get that diy stuff for an honest price.
ohio player1177 thanks for the opinion, appreciate it buddy
Update on it?
I’m glad I bought the diesel version. After installation of tuning box, HP, Torque, & mpg increased. Best I got was 40.8 mpg on my commute. I had a Brabus G500 & don’t miss the < 13 mpg consumption. You can get one for about $20K with the 10 year emission warranty from Porsche.
I mean, 13mpg is about average for an SUV of that size and power. The BMW X5M and Range Rover Supercharged get similar gas mileage. Given the six-figure price tags of those vehicles (when new), gas mileage is of no concern to the manufacturers.
Danny's Garage or 3.0 diesel.
How about the bigger 420hp denali or escalade that avg 18. With 23 on the highway?
Jim Patterson They don’t get anywhere near that kind of mileage in the real world. It’s more like 14 or less in the city, 19-20 highway. You can maybe get 23 mpg if you’re going downhill with a 40 mph tailwind. Lol.
Jim, That's only because of the cylinder deactivation, which I've heard has caused nothing but problems since they implemented it and has made the engine unreliable.
13 mpg in a Tahoe isn't as painful as 13 mpg in a cayenne. :)
Really really awesome.. I bought the same car and model last 3 years, a Magnum version, there is no major issues and it's really reliable. I enjoyed owning it. Time to let it go and replace with the 957 model. Tq bro..
That red 911 tho.
You mean the "crappy old" red Porsche? I was staring at that for most of the video :)
Timothy Nguyen the light in it was on..
Are we going to see it soon??

Ah, the first generation cayenne, a feat of engineering wrapped in a collision between house styling cues and interior volume requirements. Great way to get rid of gasoline that you don’t need.
Phos9 that is beautiful
I was a mechanic for about ten yeard for a (strictly) used car lot. Now I'm usually a stickler for using oem parts on these cars or at least by the same manufacture. But with all VW group cars and others I cut the plastic hard lines of and replace them with rubber lines. Usually looking at five bucks a pop and will last much longer in hot engine bays. Cheap, efficient because you can always have it available, and just smart in my book.
I'm doing exactly this on the vac line I cracked on my 06 CTTS!
Benjamin Davidson had the same brittle plastic lines on my Ford Explorer so I cut the lines and sourced rubber lines and haven’t had a problem since 👌🏼
Jyep, just did a similar repair on my mom's Buick CXS.

Come on Hoovie, we know you were behind the pulled spark plug 😂😂😂
The sun beating down on that scratched paint is tearing at my soul!! Makes me wonder if Porsche cheaped out on paint
The wiring is only a problem with headlights mainly. There’s a spot on the driver floorboard where a ground splice is water soluble and when the customers don’t clear out the drains it can damage that but it’s an easy fix.
11:06 nice red Porsche!
Samoyed Gaming probably his
At the end of the video he said, he said that "crappy old" red Porsche for his Porsche fix. So yea, he bough it.
Watch the video..
There's a California plate on it, so... hmmm.
Kevin Davis In California it's my understanding the license plates stay with vehicle.
You bought it for less than the price of a repair.
If we still had moonshiners they'd be driving Cayenne Turbo.
I loved my 2012 Turbo. I purchased it near mint (97/100) in 2016 for 60K...not bad for 121K fully loaded new. Every option minus ceramic brakes. Zero issues for the next 4 years. I miss it.
I bought a 2006 S for my wife and besides regular maintenance including a battery which I do all myself its been a really nice car. If I didn't wrench myself I would not have gotten it as the oil changes cost over 3 hundred dollars. It holds 2 jugs of synthetic oil and has 2 oil drain plugs along with bottom aero you have to remove. I went the other way with the wheels since we live in a snow state. I got a plus size Goodyear weather readys on the stock rims. They filled the wheel wells up nicely and softened the ride up nicely. The speedo is only about 2 mph over at 60 as it was about 3 MPH off at 60 with the shit riding Yokohamas on it. The tire dealer said they were listed as an alternative size and it definitely improved the snow performance. Great SUVs that stay solid for a long time unlike most American counterparts.
The secret with the low range is that you have to use it several times a year or it gets corroded mich like your parking brake would. Exercise it. It has low range and also diff lockers on it. Very nice quality.
is that another Porsche in the back ground in garage??
mahesh Nadar you must be new here...
killahnan nope u wrong.. been here from 30 k subs

A much better money pit.
Also a much better fix for what ail's you.

The cayenne is an excellent car. Incredibly reliable, weve owned a GTS for 11 years now and have had literally 0 problems other than normal wear and very expensive services. Porsche makes cars with german performance and japanese reliability
Nate Lav I’ve been hesitant to pull the trigger but your the 6th person who has owned one more than 6+ years that has attested to reliability. I know why people buy Porsche’s to race because they just work. I’m glad to see that has carried over into the Cayenne. I’m looking at 2 tomorrow.
@@saltcityhustlin3152 good for you you shouldnt be dissapointed as long as you get one that was taken care of. They do require a good ammount of service with the carbon brakes and such but as long as you do service it she shouldnt break and she certainly wont strand you like an italian car
Bought a 2006 Cayenne TT after driving a 2004 S, and what a difference. If you can find a Turbo, go for it. I've had mine for 16 years and still going strong at 135K. Repairs can be expensive as well as routine maintenance. I've always taken my car to a Porsche dealership. Just starting to do more work myself. But overall reliability is good and it's a killer driver. You won't believe you're in an SUV.
The cap that covers the nut on your rear wiper is missing LOL BTW, i worked at a Porsche dealer for 12 years and we rarely saw problems with these. When you change your oil, remove the lower charge pipes from the intercooler as they tend to act as oil catch cans.
Banana! That red 911 though, can’t wait for the video on that one
The GPS stereo on pre 2010 Cayennes can now be swapped out for aftermarket units without re-wiring the Bose amp.
Pleas giwe me a link.
If there’s one other mod I would recommend, it would be replacing the taillights with the 2008-10 cayenne taillights, as they look a lot more modern imo
There are a few well known electrical issues but as they are now well known so are the fixes. One is a wire that goes to a relay under the seat - it is joined half way along where the front seat lives - damp get s in it, it corrodes and you lose feed to the relay. Another one is the two relays in the steering lock controller - quite cheap to buy, easy to fix but really hard to find if you don;t know about it. The headlight wiring seems to like to go crispy too and you either lose lights or get false bulb failure wanings. Replacement harnesses are now reallly cheap and don't take long to fit. I have one of these superb vehicles, it is incredible how it performs and is no worse on petrol than the range rover 4.4 it has replaced.
Thank you so much for this video .... i just scored an 04 twin turbo with just 46k Southern California miles for $13k ... Could not be happier ... what an AWESOME vehicle
Still going well?
I had a 06 Turbo S model picked up for 6k+trade in. Had it for four years before it started developing minor issues - some new problem every few months. Eventually it needed new discs and pads at which point i sold it on. Missed it immediately. Lived with a 12 Boxster S for 18 months (I’d never owned a convertible) but barely used it. Swapped that for a ‘15 Cayenne Turbo yesterday and everything is right with the world again.
Man I should probably pay you some extra for this video. Each time I start thinking about buying a cayenne I reach this video and calm down :)

The headlights are beautiful. Where did they come from? New taillights would really complete the makeover IMO. I think replacing the wheels made a huge difference as well. exactly, especially when u bought it as CBU
So basicly the porsche would of been alot cheaper to run if u hadn't lent it to a friend and not let someone else fit the lights amd repair the bumper plus modding it.
That brake issue it often caused by lots of late braking and hard driving (i found this out when i was working at a porsche dealer for 2 years).
Great car and vid
The brakes are cause by a rubber braking in the bear shift rear and front just replace the rubber
All VAG cars with big gasoline engines have the issue with degrading wire insulation. I have A couple of friends with 2000 A6 C5 and 2004 A6 4F both 4.2L and both have issues with wires.
Also any plastic tubing in the engine bay is prone to desintegrate if you just touch it :)
You think VAG would have figured out how to fix this by now smdh
Phil B I think this is done intentionally. At some point it should get cheaper to get a new one instead of maintaining the old one.
It is intentional, and the Japanese car makers do the exact opposite, I have a Acura RL thats older than my Audi an I've had wayyyyy less problems from the Acura.

I have heard- through a few sources- that since 1995 the German Government mandated that all German built cars be built with degradable plastics. I cannot confirm if this indeed is the case, but it would explain why I constantly have problems with the integrity of plastic components, on all older German built cars that I work on.

I love the look of the first gen Cayennes. The new ones might be fancier and more technical and well...new, they are starting to become less of a draw to me when most premium brands offer SUV/Crossovers. It’s not as a unique concept anymore.
I love how the original looks like a lifted 911. It’s immediately recognizable as a Porsche.

Good luck EVER finding repair and part costs that he states in this video. ALL Porsche repairs are ridiculously expensive. Doesn't matter if its the dealership or a local garage. 2:52 Just noticed that Tyler's fingernails hit the mirror lol
11:04 $7,000? Wow, Tyler is probably one of the most honest sellers given that he made a video on the flaws, quirks, and features. But in later years, that's gonna be like $7,000 more to replace the vacuum lines and wirings.
Nathan Kim still 14k for almost 500hp luxury suv
Nathan Kim Probably, but still cheaper than a $500 a month average American car payment.
Yeah it equals out. 7 grand to completely fix it is still cheaper than the cheapest new SUV and you don’t need to pay payments or have to deal with interest. Plus, just keep gluing it together and tape up those wires! Should be fine lol
It makes no sense. That's the ugliest Cayenne (and probably Porsche) ever, yet by making it all black (usually a terrible idea) you made it look incredible.
if you could have a vinyl wrap place install acres of wood grain siding and put some luggage on the roof it'd be the same as a mid 70's station-wagon.
Had a 2003 Sequoia that I had to replace EVERY vacuum line. I had to spend an entire weekend changing all of them out trying to fix a EVAP error code. Many were so brittle they would crumble or the ends were cracked, so I don't think Porsche has it any worse than people beloved Toyotas, lol. I've owned 5 Toyota's, love them, but they aren't as perfect as ppl want to claim.
