- Check out my footage from the Rubicon Trail, this trip was in June of 2023. The snow was deep this year, and the trail was virtually empty still! 2 FJ Cruisers, 1 new engine, 1 dog, and 3 adventurers had the time of their lives!

Those half shafts can be a real pain to put in. Toyota makes it easy to replace though.
They are nice and easy to change, unless they don't want to pop out! 😉

@@123-olmngresx LOL! Sure, Jeeps break axles, but far less often than IFS systems break. Criminy, this guy brought TWO spares because he was EXPECTING to break. But generally a SFA system is much stronger than an IFS system. SFA also doesn't need alignments as often. Where IFS is more comfortable on-road, SFA is stronger off-road. That's the trade-off. Why do you think the Off Road Hub FJ Cruiser switched to a SFA? Because it's stronger and more suited for off road driving. That's all I'm saying. I went with the stronger and more durable choice to significantly reduce the likelihood of breaking on the trail and blocking it while repairs are being done.
It's all part of the game! 😉
@VideosOffRoad Yes solid axle can be strong but not every ifs is created equal. I run a full size truck and have been to moab several times and over 100 trails in Colorado no issues. You got to hit obstacles straight on where the shafts are the strongest. Go slow and crawl the obstacles too. I don't see very many ton swaps around here at all in the trails maybe the malls. Don't forget RCV shafts are CV axles and are supposed to be the strongest..

Welcome back!! You mentioned, that you got to Buck Island Lake by about 2pm. Do you recall what time you started on the trail after airing down? Just trying to figure out what to expect in a well built vehicle with a clear trail...
About 9 I believe. I made the entire return to Loon from observation in 5 hours. But it's hard to say that's what you should expect. The Rubicon has a way of being unpredictable! 😉
