  • Thrustmaster T-GT II Review - Is it the Best Wheel for GT7 or Should you Go Direct Drive? I am unboxing and reviewing the Thrustmaster TGT 2 with the Open Wheel Add On. We'll test out the force feedback on the wheel, the cool feature where it is supposed to vibrate your wheel, pedals and paddle shifters. We'll also go through the other Direct Drive wheels offered by other manufacturers which might be a better option for you then the TGT 2. We'll talk pricing, features and try to help you decide what sim racing wheel is right for you!

    Here's how a transducer works:
    It's a loudspeaker with no membrane/diaphragm. It's JUST the voice coil situated inside of the magnet. That voice coil would normally move the speaker diaphragm/membrane (the part of the speaker you see moving when playing sounds through it). When there's no diaphragm/membrane attached it will not generate much sound because it can't displace air, instead the vibrations from the voice coil is transmitted into whatever the transducer is connected to. In this case the wheelbase, and the wheelbase itself will pass those vibrations on into the rig your wheel is strapped to.
    They run at very low frequencies and are really effective at emulating vibrations. It's kinda like a subwoofer only it makes no sounds, just vibrations.
    It's the same tech as a Buttkicker and it does the same job.
    If you have neighbours below you, you need to make sure those vibrations don't go into the floor, because it is HORRIBLY noisy. Like someone just dropped a sack of vibrators on the floor.

      @@famrue527 I have the Logitech z903 I think, 5 speakers and a sub. Problem is everything plugs into the sub, and no sub out port. I tried several different ways to rig the buttkicker too it but nothing practical imo, I bought the katana sound blaster x sound bar, only because of the sub out port. It’s a nice sound bar with decent sub and it’s not expensive. Basically anything that will kick ur sub will kick the kicker. Yes hits when going over curbs. Another option u can do if u don’t want to lose ur sound system, get the katana like I have, get a sound splitter, I use optical splitter so I can connect 2 sound systems into one optical port, this way u can have sound going out to both of them. I did this for awhile and just kept the volume lower on the sound bar, and turned up the buttkicker amp a bit to compensate, so I could keep my 5.1 system going. There may be another way to set it up without a sub out port but I could not find a practical way to do so, especially cuz I’m on console and not pc so there’s no dedicated software for it. It’s neat tho, in shooters like cod every bullet or grenade kicks, or fighting games, basically makes every game more immersive. I’m on the buttkicker gamer 2 mounted under next level racing gt track, but u can mount under a gaming chair too.

    The vibration in the G923 is really cool, I noticed it right away and if I switched to another wheel which doesn't have it, I'd totally miss it. But on the other hand, that wheel is very noisy and the force feedback isn't really strong. The noise is not a big problem if you play with closed-back headphones as I do, which isolate me very well from the noise of the wheel. Anyway, as I have said many times, if you are on a tight budget, any entry level wheel with pedals will be a huge step forward if you are coming from a controller. I'm a casual racing budget gamer, so I'll do with sub $300 wheels for many years, and I'm happy with that. I'm happy I spent my money on a "PSVR2 + budget wheel", instead of going "flat screen + better wheel".

    • @thecasualracinggamer
      @thecasualracinggamer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used a T150 for years up until now and would recommend that wheel to anyone 10x over who is just starting out on a budget or just wants to go to a wheel from a controller. I am all about the budget minded racers and realize not everyone can afford to spend $500 and up on a wheel or might not even want to.
      As for noise, yeah the gear driven wheels are noisy but most likely you have some sort of headphones on or a VR headset with speakers so you actually never hear it. It's more about the people around you that it will bother. 😂

    • @vgaportauthority9932
      @vgaportauthority9932 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@zososound Trueforce is a proprietary Logitech thing, if the game supports that it won't translate to the thing inside the T-GT2. The T-GT1 and 2 have a transducer, not a rumbler like the Logitech.
      As far as I've understood, the transducer of those two wheels will never be usable on PC, it's a Sony developed doohickey. It's why the T-GT 1 and 2 are more expensive than the PC version of the same base (TS-PC) for that reason.
      I think that's why the PS5 version of the T818 isn't out yet either, it's likely going to cost more than the PC version for similar reasons.
      The Fanatec PS5 wheels are also more expensive than the Xbox/PC variant. Sony probably charges Thrustmaster and Fanatec for access to the PS5 ecosystem. I know this has been the case for fight sticks in earlier times. It kinda sucks tbh.. Being penalized money-wise for choosing PS5 just doesn't feel great.

    Congratulations. I can confirm with the og TGT when it's hooked up to a racing rig it vibrates through the whole rig and it's amazing.
    I think it's called an immersion speaker. I love it because it tells you when the tires are going past their limit. No other wheel does this for GT7
    The only con is the immersion speaker only works in GT Sport and GT7. You notice the difference immediately when you try other racing games on any platform with the same wheel base. Like something is missing. I believe this tech was developed with the polyphony\thrustmaster partnership.

    looks like a great setup - going to be lots of fun !
    one other thing to consider **for some** is price of manual shifter. the thrustmaster is 180 euros vs Logitech is 40 euros!
    for me (in Spain) T300/TGT including pedals + shifter was awkwardly placed price wise... quite big jump up from G923, and too close to the DD alternatives. so, this tipped the balance, for me, to the G923, go 'cheap', so its less 'lost' if/when I go to the Fanatec DD Pro.
    I should say, the Thrustmaster shifter is miles better than the Logitech one... so it's worth it, only problematic, if you think later you might want to upgrade to Fanatec offering.

    • @northshore7123
      @northshore7123 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Greatgoku4 I don't want to be misunderstood. The G Pro is a great piece of equipment, but the question is whether such an upgrade makes sense. All weekend I was thinking about whether to go back to TGT-2, which I had before but sold, or wait for the Logitech replacement. I made the decision to go back to TGT-2. This steering wheel meets all my requirements. It's a sweet spot between cost and what I get in return. However, I emphasize that the G Pro is generally a better steering wheel, TRUEFORCE gives significantly better effects than the Transducer from TGT-2. But there are certainly even better equipment out there. But why bother? For me, it was a difference of $1200 because I would have to have a rig. And so, the old faithful wheel stand pro will still hold the TGT-2. It all depends on the needs and level of advancement of a particular person. For me, the biggest game changer was the PSVR2.❤

    With all the current logistics and customer service/support issues facing Fanatec right now, my only choice is Thrustmaster or Logitech for GT7. And so I went with T-GT II and never been happier with the choice I made. Then I bought a Thrustmaster Formula Wheel Add-On Ferrari SF1000 Edition, then a TH8S (TH8A is kinda expensive to me for a H-pattern shifter), then a Rally Wheel Add-On Sparco R383 Mod (which I'm currently waiting for it to arrive).

      I have this exact wheel and play mostly GT7, the bass shaker only works with GT7 and GT sport, so when I play other games the rumble isn't there. In that respect I wouldn't want to trade it to the fanatec. The TGT 2 is quite powerful by itself (imho) but I'd miss the extra rumble the transducer brings. It's really quite something I underestimated quite heavily myself. It's really something you should experience to really get your head around.

    • @calebwright2849
      @calebwright2849 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its a game changer for those not wanting to add the complexity of transducers with simhub. Now that GT7 has simhub support having all those sensations come from the correct place (through your seat) will be far better than having them come through the wheel which isnt always natural feeling. Using a buttkicker off the audio sucked but with SimHub its a night and day differnce. Im still finessing the settings but it realyy adds so much to the experience. The detail you can get is incredible. But somthimg like this and trueforce does it all for you, albeit with limited titles but for primarily playing gt7, i definitely see the appeal.
      Im not knocking trueforce at all, as for most it would offer more immersion with far less complications but for you already having the dd pro, you could get all the effects your missing with trueforce plus so much more by adding even a single buttkicker or a dayton/aura shaker by running it through simhub.
      I just upgraded to the podium f1 with v3 pedals from t300/tlcm in Nov when it was bundled for 1499. From what i have seen, the ffb is definetly superior to the Fanatec's even without trueforce on but its really really close when set up properly. All the major Direct Drive wheels are so close in performane once calibrated ❤that the ecosystem, ease of use, and compatibility will be the major driving factor in which to choose. Will Ford on boosted media has great videos on the differences and naunces of each.
      People like me sometimes tend to forget that not everybody cares about acheiving the highest possible level of realism and feeling all the appropriate forces at the right time. Getting the information needed to drive the car and have fun is most important. Its all subjective for sure. Also not everybody is willing to shell out the money for a high end set up. I just got into this hobby in 2020, have always been obsessed with cars and racing just didnt know simracing was really a thing or as accessible as it is to have a sim at home, but i have since gone balls to the wall with it and i have no regrets. Only regret is not discovering it sooner.
