i was walking around the city and saw my friend's father. He offered me a ride home and i entered in his Honda Fit. Honestly, i never saw a roomier car. I tried to touch the roof from the inside and it was kinda hard. I stretched my legs and couldnt touchthe end of the leg room. Im kinda short (standing at 5'6), but the driver (wich was over 6 foot i think) drove it very confortably. He had lots of room. Honestly, its a very confortable car

Your experience sounds very much like my own, back in the mid 80’s my tutor dropped me off at home in a Honda Civic Wagon(Wagovan) or tall wagon, and just like your experience I couldn’t believe the interior room and space for a car with such small exterior dimensions! Amazing head and leg room and very comfortable. Honda seems to have this mastered over all other small car makers for sure. When my Civic finally goes my next Honda will most likely be a Fit as well!

I have two of them, one 2009 2nd gen and one 2019 3rd gen. They’re by far the best cars I’ve ever had, considering the whole package. Roomier than other hatchbacks, conveniently urban than sedans, great mileage, almost maintenance-free if you change oil and filters regularly. And they’re stable as it’s on rails when you drive on curvy roads. These cars run forever and are a smarter choice than those SUV’s with all its high costs in fuel, tires, maintenance etc. It’s a shame that Honda has discontinued such a great car 😢

I purchased a used 2017 Honda Fit LX six months ago. I wanted a 'daily driver' to have something more economical to drive than my gas sucking 2008 Chevy Avalanche truck. So far I'm very pleased with it no regrets about the purchase. Plenty of pep, excellent fuel economy, and plenty of interior room to hold whatever I want to carry. With the rear seats folded down I can carry two kayaks (with the rear hatch open). And it reminds me of the very first new car I ever bought: a 1973 Honda Civic. A very nice useful little car.

We had a stock 2001 F-350 4x4 get stuck and a stock Toyota Hilux 4x4 struggle where a Honda Fit quickly and easily succeeded off-roading. Used to take it down the trails where mom’s Yukon Denali would get stuck, it was the funniest thing ever.

Who cares about the power? It has great handling characteristics for the simple suspension, pretty soft with lots of movements which makes it easy to get a feel for whats happening and how the tyres load up so its super approachable for new drivers. You can safely let the rear axle help you turn in and you get predictable understeer, also the gearbox is great.

V-Tec changes the valve timings to open the valves longer to make the engine perform better(and use more gas). It’s hard to explain how it activates more aggressive cams to change the valve timing but there are plenty of videos if you’re actually interested(donut’s vid is great)!

Old school VTEC is variable valve lift, not really timing (although there is a bit of variance with the can profile, but most of it is the lift). It was with I-VTEC where it got true variable valve timing as well.

It has I-vtec. However, it's single cam I-vtec so it's not nearly as aggressive as a dual cam variant. It's mostly for efficiency in the Fit. It also adjusts ignition timing as well. And the VTEC is actuated by oil pressure. Once a certain degree of pressure is detected the secondary (aggressive) cam position is locked in place.

I'm very surprised to realize it's fading away, there are still so many of them here on the road in SoCal, I'd have guessed it was as popular as ever. I'm not a racer, but have never had any complaints about the pickup in this thing. And it really is kind of like an SUV! You can pack a HUGE load of cargo, but just not with 4 passengers. But for 3-4 pals on an overnight trip, or a couple on longer ride, it's beautiful. Alway loved the styling too. The overall shape reminds me of a sci-fi spacecraft... maybe not the coolest starfighter, but like a shuttle or cargo craft you'd see in a spaceport scene ;)

I just got a 2015 EX 2 months ago due to health problems and not being able to get in and out of my Elantra easily. I have had 60 cars in my life, mostly sports cars from a NA 86 RX-7 to a 94 Viper, with several Corvettes in between. This car is a hoot to drive and I actually like the CVT. No harsh shifting in the corners that break the tires free and it is just always in the power band. It isn't fast and doesn't handle as well as my 1995 Corvette, but damn it is fun taking it to the limits and not being 100 MPH over the speed limit. Everyone who has sat in it is impressed by all the room and ease of entry and exit. I had proximity remotes back in my 94 and 95 vettes, but you still needed to use the key to crank it. Now my keys never leave my pockets . I could never go back to conventional keys after using a start/stop button proximity key.

The stock suspension on these are already good which is why muegen has been tuning them for years. They have a good basis for a good track car from the get go. My GE8 is by far way more fun in the corners than any other hatchback from the same time period. Why? Because of it’s stiff suspension. Handles bump like trash, but can go quick in corners and thats a tradeoff i’m personally all for

I have a 2015 EX with the 6 sp. manual. Great car!! No problems with it yet and it's getting close to 70,000 miles on it. Might take it in to get the intake valves cleaned because it is, after all, a direct injected engine. And those valves just build up carbon. It also has a touch of oil dilution but nothing like the CRVs and Civics from 2016 to 2020! I change it's oil more regularly than most people do at 3,000 to 4,000 miles. It has even gone on super long trips. The only failing on long trips is you have to stop for gas more often than most cars. You might only get 320 to 340 miles on a tank! They don't have a very big gas tank. My ex drove it 6,700 miles in one trip. From Lehi Utah to Miami Florida with a few days in Orlando. Then up to Greensboro N.C. and then back home to Lehi Utah!! Ran like a champ the whole way and she drove the entire trip by her lonesome, as I had to work.

I ordered a new 2007 sport with manual trans when they first came to the states. I kept it until around 2012 and sold it. I remember my best mileage was 42.3 on a trip and my casual driving got me around 36 or 37 mpg. I rarely drove it hard except when I would occasionally get on a road with lots of curves. I sold it around 2012. If I could do over I would have kept it. If they were still available new today with a manual transmission I would probably get one. Gas prices and the economy had a lot to do with sales and Honda started shoving CVT's in them and adding a lot of options which is nice in a way but it drives up the purchase price too. The 2007 had a few nice things but was still basic compared to higher end vehicle's and that allowed people to afford them. If Honda kept it reasonably priced they could still sell a lot right now because not everyone can afford the prices most vehicle's sell for today.

@Mark Roden, thanks for making this video praising the Honda Fit/Jazz, which I agree is deserving of praise. I test drove a 2007 Honda Fit Sport (manual) when it was new, and loved it. Would have purchased it if it wasn’t for the dealer markups in the US at that time.
I have to correct/comment on your historical notes about the Fit. The Fit was not actually a direct competitor to the VW Golf, because the Golf was one size larger than the Fit. The Civic is Honda’s direct competition to the Golf (in a class called the c-class in Europe). The Fit actually competes with the VW Polo, in the b-class.
Also, the VW Golf wasn’t “rising in popularity” in the US in the late 90’s - it had been in the market, doing pretty well, since the 1970’s. Nor was the Golf the only (or most popular) hatchback in the US market either. It was one of the first in the US market starting around 1976 (as the VW Rabbit), but soon there were many competing hatchbacks like the Honda Civic, Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon, Chevy Chevette, Mazda GLC, Toyota Tercel, Toyota Starlet, etc. Hatchbacks were a big segment in the US car market at that time, many more models beyond the VW Golf.
The real reason Honda decided to bring the Fit to the US was because of the rise in gas prices in 2005/2006. Which motivated carmakers to bring their foreign market fuel efficient small cars to the US. Eg. Ford Fiesta, Mazda2, Chevy Spark, etc.

Honda Fit is an amazing little car and for me the best looking one is the 2015-19 model! As a Civic lover/owner, the Fit embodies what the first two generations of the Civic had and eventually lost over time and later generations. Not too wild about the current 2020- Fit (or Jazz as it’s called in the Japanese market), bigger and lost some of what made the first ones fun and cool, but at least it’s around for one last generation!

I actually like the 2nd Gen Fit the best in the looks department. We had one for a few years, but I didn't much like it's manual. Granted, the other vehicle we had at the same time was my S2000 that I've had for years so I may be spoiled in the shifter department. I would be very keen to try out the 3rd generation's manual. I'm sad they stopped making them just from a "vehicles are getting so stupidly huge" standpoint let alone the fact it was an amazing economy car option, great college car, first car, you name it.
