You are so right ,I was born in Guernsey and have always lived in rented accommodation Now in a GHA flat Owning my own home is just not a possibility especially now at 65yrs old
I'm not even entitled to a pension Not enough contributions through illness
Oh but Guernsey is a wonderful place to live I love it
Jenny ❤
Lovely video ,they all are
Thanks Jenny 😊🇬🇬
I remember going to that coop during lockdown. The queue was long and it was freezing. Not the best place to be at that time.
Many years ago one of my cousins had a boyfriend who was a business owner of one of the biggest boat yards on the bridge at St Sampson's. He lived in a flat in town too.
Eventually the business grew so big that the company relocated to the isle of Wight. Shifting the big Nelson pilot hulls often caused logistical nightmares in St Sampson to get them to the harbour.
Very interesting thanks Trevor⭐️
Fascinating insight to the reality of property in Guernsey Ross. One of my customers had a standard three bedroom detached house in St Martins- when he told me how much it was worth I nearly spilled my coffee with shock ! Keep up the good work !
Thanks for sharing!
We don't all live in mansions... but the price of houses is the equivalent of a mansion.
Average house price is £675K. And you dont get much for that. In fact many are moving back to the UK due to not being able to afford to rent or buy.
We have a very serious housing crisis.
A small two bedroom duplex costs £2,500 per month to rent.
Is that the average price on the local market or the open market?

I've just double-checked. Apparently, it's now dropped to just over £600,000. Let's hope it continues to fall.
That's local market.
The raw median price of the 20 open market transactions in the second quarter of 2023 was £1,633,125.
Rental prices have rissen.
£288K is the average in the UK, apparently.
Excellent video as usual and yeah I’ve noticed the same when I’ve been to Jersey some properties are very modest but yeah probably still much higher prices than an equivalent property here in the U.K.
Very True😳
Yes it’s very expensive 😳
That first part was the road I cycled going to the Grammar school every day - thank you. When we were first married we had a little cottage on Les Banques near the Half Way (now demolished). Then we went into a States flat down Track Lane (now demolished). No flash mansions for us. Came to NZ and within 3 years we had bought are own 3 bedroom house - would never have done that in Guernsey. Jocelyn Le Page
Oh wow!
I know somebody who is paying 1400 for one bedroom flat around Victoria Road.. is a lot of money for small flat and on street car parkingu
I know, very expensive for what you get 😏
Hi Ross , I lived / worked in Guernsey and the islands , 1975 to 1980 , 80% of the people were good working class people , lived to our means never really met many millionaires apart from Oliver and his mates 🤣, still the best place to live anywhere 👌👌.
That’s great to hear 👏👏
Crazy prices in Guernsey which bid crippling some locals,
What a shame.
I didn't know there was a petrol station at the Halfway !! Shows how long since I've been ' home ' 😀
Btw Ross, my hubby is now going to subscribe as well because he loves your videos. 🙏🙏
Hi, it’s been there a while now, I use it quite a bit. That great to hear your husband enjoys my channel and is going to subscribe👍🇬🇬
Hi Ross another great video cheers..a bit of a strange request but could you do a video about the Guernsey prison.. the reason i ask is because i was lucky enough to actually walk through it in 1987 Christmas time,my girlfriends uncle was the foreman for the extension of the job so he gave me a tour.. the company he worked for was called W.A Mosgrove LTD.. I still have his business card from all those years ago..my old mate Graham WHIPPY Mourant..
Awesome- I will see what I can do🙏😉
Next right at the lights driver, and drop me at La Collinette please!! 😂
Much as I love Guernsey, I would not like to live in the back street of St Peter Port, its so so tight!!
Well I live in Middlesbrough and a pint of Fosters went up to £3.55 on Wednesday... nearly a frigging riot!
Wow 🤩
The dog poo is no surprise given Guernsey's French heritage.
I know what you mean Ross, my friend i come to see lives in St Andrews in Housing Association style property.Maybe called something else there.
She's Guernsey born and bred 😊
We don't ALL live in mansions, but you are paying mansion prices. WE drive in VANS, of course you do. You serve the others, service people etc. Question, is Guernsey a tax haven? Answer, YES. How much available income/capital do you require to NOT pay the same tax as a decorator/cleaner/hotel staff at end of year.
