Did they explain what had happened to their cat (when did it go missing)? Show them pics of your cat if you have them and then tell him to chim chimminy out of your house before you stick his chimney brush where the sun don't shine.

Very odd behaviour indeed . Take heed Ross and go get your cat chipped immediately. We left Gsy in 2003 and had to get our cat chipped, in order to bring him with us. In this case I think it would be the sensible thing to do. ( Oh and...... choose a new chimney sweep 😂)
Best get your cat microchipped then ownership can be proved. Not nice to be accused of taking somebody else's pet. Does the chimney sweep live anywhere near you?
Well believe it or not cats do happen to have more one owner, cat can go to any door and look cute just get food it possible maybe the chimney sweeper took it in and fed it and decided to make it a pet of there own, I'm only smizing at this point. As to how the chimney sweeper and wife acted and treated you im surprised you did not phone police and throw them out of your house what a nerve they had accuse you like that did they even apologise for the manner in which they accused you.
get the cat chipped & registered to you!. Guernsey is a quirky place.... You need to read 'The Book of Ebenezer Le Page' to get a feel of how the natives think. Even better if you can get the John Le Mesureir recording you'll get the islandersaccent too.

Sound wierd situation.
Many years ago my girlfriend lost her cat but was reunited with it after it was turned into the animal shelter. About a month later it turned out she had the wrong cat! This was discovered when the original cat returned home 😂

That’s really weird. My first thought is they were up to something. Trying to get some money out of you. Then they saw you werent playing so they had to give up the pretense that you had “their” cat. (I’ll bet they haven’t actually got a cat!)

Excellent story ! where I used to live a large friendly golden retriever would sit in the garden watching the world going by wagging its tale at passers by - loved by children. The only thing was that it was in the wrong garden - apparently it didn't like its owners garden - the one across the road was much better !

Is your cat allowed outside? If so maybe he/she visits these peoples home routinely and they thought they had adopted a stray? Thats happened to my friend unfortunately
