Thomas- you are the absolute best auto reviewer on You Tube, I can't think of anyone else I could watch for a full 54:48 minutes! Keep up the good work/fun!
I test drove the CX-30 and the cabin quality was very similar to the X3, lots of features. And the infotainment is a massive upgrade from the old mazda infotainment system. It also drove really really well. Probably will get it soon.
Whatever car I watch on this channel I see full detailed reviews, not like 10 min mambo-jambo on some other sources. Thank you a lot for the great work you do!

Thanks a lot for this great in-depth review of the Mazda CX-30! I especially like the comparison between the SkyActiv-G and SkyActiv-X engines. What I also like is that you discussed the sound of the doors closing and the noise in the car while driving. I miss those aspects in many car reviews!
I really like Mazda's improvement on the plastic cladding around the entire vehicle. Protects the paint from road debris and its is noticeable which gets people talking. The Mazda CX-30 is going to sell very well out here in America.
Thanks Thomas (and Holger). I quite like the CX-30, although the plastic cladding is a bit over the top. In that beautiful red colour I can live with it.. :-) The interior is really great. I also really like the fact they cover the middle console with leatherette, it makes it look so much more upmarket. I would go for the new Skyactiv-X, the price difference in the Netherlands is EUR 1200. That's probably less than in other countries, because of the CO2 tax we have. And the X engine has lower CO2 emissions than the G engine, leading to 1000 less tax..
I absolutely agree with you on the black side cladding . It should be half its size in thickness. I think I would have to go with a very dark color just to help keep the side cladding from looking so in your face.
Wonderful review! There are not too many cars you can get with 180 PS and still a manual gearbox! The Infotainment system finally feels better. After driving around in a CX5 for 10 days in Norway it felt great to drive but lacked some technology. This makes up for it, especially at the price point! HUD is nice too!
Good review, I would honestly go with the X engine and AWD. Why? Lower consumption, lower CO2 emissions (important for a lot of markets, will save you 1000’s of €€) and the AWD system is great for winters and inspires more confidence in corners. Also, the 60 more horses are very nice to have.
Do yourselves a favour and buy this thing (and also the standard Mazda 3) with the manual gearbox. I test drove one the other day, and it's one of the nicest feeling gearboxes I've ever experienced.
Yes, at 17:12, quite like the blue detailed interior; though prefer bright coloured interiors. Nicely equipped - versus the German manufacturers "options options options ethos". Idea of HUD is great. As is BLIS. Glad you found the infotainment intuitive. Great video, great driving part. Many thanks. Greetings to Holger.
A good and balanced review, and I'm very glad that your recommendation matches exactly the configuration I ordered: FWD, G122, AT. Without testing both cars, I figured this would be enough for most scenarios, without overspending. While I ordered a Mazda 3, the Sedan version, instead of the presented CX-30, I assume they behave mostly similarly. It should arrive in the next 2-3 weeks.
Best review yet for Mazda CX-30. Very thorough, in depth analysis, bot on looks and on driving. I ordered one a couple of weeks ago and I'm waiting for it to be delivered: Skyactive-G, manual, PLUS configuration, Machine Gray (which I think hides the large black claddings). Looking forward to driving it.
Wow man what a good review from the autogefuhl team. Defenitly the best car review channel. You deserve a lot more members. Btw, I ve got the 2019 mazda 3 for a few months now and I recognize a lot of things you named in this review. If you want a lot of value for money, this car beats every other brand in this segment. Compare it with a T-roc with the same options. Or with a seat ateca. Mazda is doing things really well.
Very good reporting. We purchased a new CX 5 Grand Touring back in 2013 and thus far have had no negative issues, no repairs. I believe that the main design feature of the X engine was for better fuel economy not for extra power. I would like to see a real world fuel consumption comparison between the G and the X engines, with both vehicles either being 2 wheel drive or both being all wheel drive.
Just found your review Thomas, great job. CX30 launched a couple of weeks ago in the UK, love the car so much ordered the GT Tech Sport in red, auto, 2WD, delivery in 2 weeks time! Good specs here, virtually no extras apart from mud flaps and floor mats available, oh and a tow bar, oh and roof rack....you get the picture. Depends what level of spec you'd like what model you order, no choice but to have a sunroof and Bose (what a hardship....!).
Yes I drove a CX-5 as a rental and it was really nice and unlike the ford explorer or edge I drove which was faster, there was no annoying turbo lag, it just gave you what it had when you asked for it.
Excellent review Thomas, as someone living in Munich your point about German drivers and roundabouts are spot on.😂 We have a four year old CX 5, 2 litre 165 PS, really happy with it, just let's itself down a bit with overtaking and driving uphill. We tested the latest version CX 5 with the 2.5 litre engine, solved the overtaking and driving uphill problem but fuel consumption was nearly 10 litre/kilometre even with careful driving plus it still has the old infotainment system. The dealer basically said wait two years until the CX5 with the newer infotainment and Skyactiv X comes as my wife insists on two golf bags and two golf trolleys fitting in the boot... LOL Really impressed with our dealer's attitude but will definitely look at the CX 30 even though the cladding is a bit of a turnoff. It just has to fit the golf stuff without folding seats. Thanks for all the great info.
Just bought one Feb. 11... 2021. Love it. Luxury Interior... great ride... great safety features... look awesome... enough pick up for sure - I made the right decision... looooove it...
I simply love my new 2022 CX 30 S Premium AWD. It's a compact SUV with the looks and feel of a luxury car. I opted for the White Leather (which looks Dove Grey) with the the Deep Crystal Blue exterior. I get lots of looks and lots of compliments. This is one of the quietest cars I have every owned. The Bose/12 speaker sound system is awesome. The only complaint is there isn't much 2nd row passenger room. Not a concern as I am single and rarely have any more than 1 passenger.
God the plastic cladding... I wonder if I’ll ever get used to it but there’s so damn much! Otherwise, looks like a worthwhile purchase, hopefully it will come to the US soon, and thanks for the great review!
Thank you Thomas. I would go for the Skyactiv-G, manual gearbox and 2WD. In winter time I would mount M+S tires or consider All weather M+S tires. That would be enough for 99% of my days.
really ? i plan to get one cx-30 sky-x (very soon) so where did you get these details as mazda did not telle me ? even if it is true it might significate that car will even be better after 500 kms no ? whats you return on it please
@@ludoviclhoir4807 motor is good, we have problems with some noise issues. Rear seatbelts make a clinging noise at bad road. Same with the front door panels. And the rear mirror console also makes clikking noise. We made video's and garage and Mazda are investigating it.
8:24 Actually Mazda has explained in later information sheets that the dash covering is genuine leather. This was also the same in many models that included real wood that were polished so hard as to appear to many, like it was actually metal painted.
I wish they had more colour options. I prefer some more exciting colours. The red is really nice, but it's not too special for a Mazda. This one will make on the list as an option for my next car though. I will have to experience the engine first, because the one in the CX5 is rather lame for a spec-wise powerful engine. From the review it didn't seem like the SkyActive-X is much better. I am interested in the seats, you said they changed them some which would be good since I didn't like the seats in the CX5 either. That is a matter of personal taste of course, but I drive a lot for work, so I need good seating...thank you for another thorough, honest and objective review.
Thank you Thomas for a great review! I test drove the 122 bh engine and it was ok but I thi think I will most probably go for the Sky active X. As you say it's all about waying up the cost.
I love it, as the CX-3 is an awesome looking small CUV, and the CX-5 is not as great looking and a bit boring. The flares over the wheels and the small increase in size will grab more buyers as it is the best CUV in my book for Mazda.
Myself, I would totally go for the Skyactiv-X engine. You get more torque, more power, but less fuel consumption. Plus it is a revolution in combustion technology so it would simply be fun to know that you have that under the hood.
Yes, I think I saw that video a few weeks ago. If I recall correctly you concluded that the Skyactive-X engine was indeed significantly more fuel efficient under real world driving conditions.
You're right, Mazda should really be pushing the environmental credentials of the X engine. 40% lower CO2 is a game changer. Time to re-introduce the rotary with this technology.
As ever, thanks for the insightful review. Personally, after reviewing the contenders in the compact crossover/SUV segment, I chose the CX-30. It was a close decision between the CX-30 and the Skoda Karoq, but in the end the CX-30 was more fun to drive and a nicer cabin to be in, trumping the practicality and extra cabin and storage space of the Karoq. I went for the GT Sport, with Sky Activ X and auto.
Great review, Thomas! I was realy looking forward to a comparison between the Skyactiv-G and X engines. I was wondering if you noticed any difference between the two engines in terms of noise or vibration. Keep up the good work!
Excellent video Thomas so thank you. This is especially important in the UK as, whilst we can pre-order, actual vehicles to test drive will not be available until January 2020.
Most people do not like the large arches so I’m surprised Mazda have not reduced them already. A great car though so the arches are forgiven. That the interior is solid well put together with great spec and comfort. Looking forward to winter with my AWD G Sport Tech. Not a sports car but good enough power especially mid range and quiet. My only gripe Is the tin sounding doors. Awesome review with great detail as always.
Great review. In Asia, we get the 165ps 2.0 Skyactiv G. I’m quite surprised that it’s only 122ps over there. But having said that, we don’t really get the Skyactiv X here yet. The 165ps super reliable G engine is sufficient for this vehicle! Great review as always. Come on Thomas! The door closing sound isn’t that bad! Not much different from my G01 X3! Audi has the best door closing sound though; but definitely something that isn’t a deal breaker. 🤓
Thank you for this video. I was in a situation , should I go for the cx30 and which model . We decided to go for Mazda CX-30 2.0 e-Skyactiv G MHEV Auto SE-L Lux, Automatic, Petrol. After ordering I thought should we have gone for the skyactiv x with the 185bhp. After watching your video, it put my mind at ease that we have gone for the correct model . It’s the price we can afford and the equipment is pretty good , it’s a car that me and my wife are going to share. We also have a 5 year old abs hopefully the rear of the car is not going to be too cramped .All we want is a comfortable ride , and good quality car inside and out. And also it’s quiet refined against the cx5 which we was also considering . I really hope we have chosen a car that we can keep for many years and enjoy. Again thank you . Out of all the reviews your review was so informative and honest about price , affordability and also do you really need such a high spec car . The colour we have ordered is the Crystal blue mica.
It sounds good. I currently have a CX5. One little niggle is that I think the storage in the front doors could easily be made more useful by adding a drink holder and less curve in the pocket to make it easier to use for maps etc. In Australia more people might want AWD for better grip on dirt roads. I am surprised by the new engine - I thought the idea was to maximise fuel efficiency so I didn't expect it to be the expensive version with higher power.
I lives in Canada and just ordered CX-30 GT (top model) last week. Waiting for my new CX-30! In Canada, Mazda offers 2.5L skyactive G, not X yet. Still though it produces 186 hp^^
In the US we have the 2.5 L. turbo with AWD in the top CX-30 models. I prefer the size and features of my CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve 2.5 L. turbo, AWD here in Nevada, USA. BUT... I REALLY want an all electric compact SUV.
Really impressive and complete test, just regret the automatic test but anyway it is great, and i'll go (99% sure) for a Red skyactive-X (better Co2, and for me the futur) inside white, Bose, rooftop and couple of gadgets/options. i'll test eveything tomorrow at Mazda to be certain of the options :)
My wife has just gone for a Skyactiv-X GT Sport Tech, in manual 2wd. Gone for the Snowflake Pearlescent White, so slightly risky colour choice. Should get it next week hopefully, so really looking forward to getting it. Also will be interesting to compare it to the toys on my Audi A8. Strange comparison maybe, but I'm genuinely interested how the tech fares against the my Audi.
Even if you dont want the skyactiv-X motor, I still think you should choose it if you can afford it only because of the higher resell value it will give you
Man könnte dir den ganzen Tag zuhören! 😅 Mazda ist momentan unschlagbar...keiner bietet so viel Auto für vergleichsweise wenig Geld an und sie sind einfach extrem schön! Ich liebe meinen 6er!
Excellent review. I drove the mazda 3 and loved it, but it was too low for me. This is a better option. Regarding the engines I hear you Thomas, the entry level petrol should be ok, specially with all the radars watching you...but there is a safety problem, when you need to enter a motorway or to overtake, if you don't have enough acceleration you have a problem. Did you try the adaptive cruise control and pilot assist ??
@@mikkelmandrup7980 It should be possible because in Canada the car has 165HP or something like that. It is obviously tuned to stop producing more power at around 4000RPMs most likely due to the emmissions.
Adam K Seems like Canada just like USA isn’t getting the new engine models from start as the Mazda 3 isn’t specified as a MHEV. How much power there can be gained from a tune of the new engines still not known but I’m sure a decent increase can be expected - maybe 150-160hp.
Mazda please add some anti vibration to the doors on all models. The sound at 7:20 probably needs 10 euro fix of insulation, if that much, but will add a much more solid feel/sound to the car when opening or closing the doors.
Always love your reviews as they go into so much detail that other reviewers dont include like measuring the boot dimensions. One thing that would be helpful is to put a rear facing child seat in the passenger side rear then see if there is still enough leg room in the front passenger seat. This would be a useful test especially on family vehicles. If it is not practical to take a child seat with you then take the measurements from one vehicle then use the measurements to set the seat position in review vehicles.
In the US, we will probably get the upgraded 2.5L G as well as this new X engine. I would probably opt for the 2.5L G engine in this vehicle, not an early adopter of new technology. I enjoy your reviews.
The Asian spec CX-4 has a notably better appearance without the massive out of proportion black plastic cladding. The April edition of Mazda Zoom Zoom magazine provides a short interview with Chief Designer Ryo Yanagisawa explaining the reason for it.
@@patrickm.4754 “We didn’t want it to look stocky,” says Chief Designer Ryo Yanagisawa, “so we used black plastic cladding in a relatively broad section and ensured the parts of the body where the colour isn’t blacked out looked slender. This makes the body look as if it is floating in mid-air.
Hi Thomas, a very good review as usual but I do not like the blue colour on the dashboard! I do prefer all black! I think I am eager to get a test drive with the sky-active x engine!
How long before the engine X gets warm? I believe the SPCC only works when the engine is warm? Maybe one should wait for a 1.5 L 3-cylinder? An easy task for Mazda do it! Or maybe make a thermal jacket for the engine...remember most folks don't drive for long trips everyday.
Everyone is raving about touchscreens but Mazda and Audi (well, at least up until recently) had it right; knobs are immensely more ergonomic and less distracting to use while driving. Audi should not have switched over to all the touchscreens they put in their cars (yeah it looks cool but now you have to spend more time taking your eyes off the road to navigate through them)
Beautiful car inside and out! However I'm not sure I like the plastic cladding. Its a bit too much. You do a great job Thomas and whoever else helps you create these reviews. You give thorough information without being boring and your pleasant attitude makes listening enjoyable.
Great review. Just bought a new Mazda 3 which has the new info system and works great. This CX 30 looks nice but so much cladding on exterior. And why Mazda still does not fit real PANORAMIC sunroof? Conventional sunroof really makes the car look cheap
Because an actual full panoramic roof makes the car feel “top heavy”. Meaning that it will have approximately 30-50% more body roll. And that does not fit in the Mazda strategy of making every car feel somewhat like a Mazda MX 5 roadster. If you compare it to the new Toyota RAV4 or Tesla Model 3 with panoramic roofs, reviewers complain about the body roll.
@@sadoka I heard what you said. However, most car manufactures like Benz, Porsche, Audi and even BMW (not french cars which still go with stupid fixed glass roof) these days have ditched cheap conventional for panoramic roof. I don't believe these car companies can't fight the issues of body roll. Mazda can create holy grail engine in the name of SkyActiv X, I'm sure they fit the panoramic roof in their vehicles with no body roll or whatever they call it..
Mazda has a very, very different philosophy towards cars than basically any other car manufacturer. And that means some stuff like panoramic roofs will probably never make it to their cars. Look at Skyactiv, lighter weight for better handling in corners, better fuel economy and atmospheric linear acceleration. Also, bringing luxury but keeping it affordable for the masses. That means adding a panoramic roof (100-300KG more) instead of a basic sunroof, will impact handling, body roll, fuel economy and pricing. To counter the body roll and bad handling, Mazda could add a system like the Audi Q5, 2 special body computers and three special 1,5kWh electric motors to make the car more stable in corners. But that is a very expensive system, easy to break and expensive to repair. To counter the extra fuel consumption, Mazda would have to add a full hybrid system, which is nice for the environment but expensive to build and more expensive to repair. Basically, to counter all the negatives, Mazda would go from 33K top spec to 40 or 43K top spec. Just to have a glass roof that you will ignore 99% of the time really. Unless you have the all glass roof of the Tesla Model 3, that would be spectacular.

Mazda's Soul Red is one of the all-time great car colours. I swear it could make even a Ssanyong Rodius look sexy.
You know it's a successful colour when other brands start copying it.
It´s grest colour…until u need to make some small repairs with colour corrector pen.
Nice video, you should do the new kia xceed, and when you coment on it compare it to cx-30. Its going to be awesome!
Exactly what I was looking for.. a complete review!
Wiedermal ein aufschlussreiches Video, Dankeschön.
👌
God the plastic cladding... I wonder if I’ll ever get used to it but there’s so damn much!
Otherwise, looks like a worthwhile purchase, hopefully it will come to the US soon, and thanks for the great review!
Totally agree, just to much black plastic
Hello. CX30 is only for european market. Isn't for US market.
Florin Gabriel That’s strange, the US Mazda website lists the CX 30 as a future vehicle, so I assumed it would be coming to the US as well
Florin Gabriel It IS coming to the US.
@@panzer_TZ We'll see...
Thank you for this review. I have to say it's very thorough and informative! Blue trim on the inside looks really nice.
Thank you Thomas. I would go for the Skyactiv-G, manual gearbox and 2WD. In winter time I would mount M+S tires or consider All weather M+S tires. That would be enough for 99% of my days.
Dilivered and picked up the cx30 X. Special detail said was: THE
COMPRESSED IGNITION WILL START AFTER 500KM, before that it will use the
spark plugs.
really ? i plan to get one cx-30 sky-x (very soon) so where did you get these details as mazda did not telle me ? even if it is true it might significate that car will even be better after 500 kms no ? whats you return on it please
@@ludoviclhoir4807 now 700km, and average 6liter and 5 on highway at 120km/h
@@ludoviclhoir4807 motor is good, we have problems with some noise issues. Rear seatbelts make a clinging noise at bad road. Same with the front door panels. And the rear mirror console also makes clikking noise. We made video's and garage and Mazda are investigating it.
Mazda's debuting this in my country tomorrow. I'm buying one next year!
8:24 Actually Mazda has explained in later information sheets that the dash covering is genuine leather. This was also the same in many models that included real wood that were polished so hard as to appear to many, like it was actually metal painted.
really? Omg
Nice Video, i have ordered these Car 180 PS Automatic in Polymetal Grey
It's not a panoramic roof, just a regular sunroof. But otherwise a great review as always Thomas!
Thank you Thomas for a great review! I test drove the 122 bh engine and it was ok but I thi think I will most probably go for the Sky active X. As you say it's all about waying up the cost.
Cheers m8
I love it, as the CX-3 is an awesome looking small CUV, and the CX-5 is not as great looking and a bit boring. The flares over the wheels and the small increase in size will grab more buyers as it is the best CUV in my book for Mazda.
When a German disses the door closing sound, I listen....
I've been waiting for this. Thanks! P.S Dig the sporty clothes you're rocking!
👌
Myself, I would totally go for the Skyactiv-X engine. You get more torque, more power, but less fuel consumption. Plus it is a revolution in combustion technology so it would simply be fun to know that you have that under the hood.
Thanks for the feedback! Did u also watch our consumption comparison?
Yes, I think I saw that video a few weeks ago. If I recall correctly you concluded that the Skyactive-X engine was indeed significantly more fuel efficient under real world driving conditions.
This video here was just launched :) Watch this in full length for the real world consumption comparison test of both engines!
David Hasselhoff outfit🤣🤣
Love new Mazda cars🤟
The skyactiv X is more about less Co2 than power.
Thanks 🙏
Great review, Thomas! I was realy looking forward to a comparison between the Skyactiv-G and X engines. I was wondering if you noticed any difference between the two engines in terms of noise or vibration. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Watched full length?
@@autogefuehl I did. Did you mention that in the full length video?
Ooh Alpine White sounds cool... informative vid, your voice is very easy to listen to.
Great review as ever and might I add looking very cool Thomas¡¡¡
We decided to go for Mazda CX-30
2.0 e-Skyactiv G MHEV Auto SE-L Lux, Automatic, Petrol.
Mazda really are making some stunning looking cars lately.seriously considering the cx5 but need to drive one.might be making a switch from Volvo.
I really dont know how do you keep in your mind these informatipn about vehicles and telling us. Thank you Thomas.
Practice :) thanks old friend
Hi, you have tested both the Mazda CX 30 & KIA Xceed, which is better? thanks
Nice video, thanks.
🙌
Even if you dont want the skyactiv-X motor, I still think you should choose it if you can afford it only because of the higher resell value it will give you
The opposite will probably be true. The X is a complicated and unproven engine that may turn out a very unreliable thing.
Thank you for another great review Thomas! However I would like to see a review of the new Kia XCEED.
Man könnte dir den ganzen Tag zuhören! 😅
Mazda ist momentan unschlagbar...keiner bietet so viel Auto für vergleichsweise wenig Geld an und sie sind einfach extrem schön! Ich liebe meinen 6er!
Vielen Dank dir :)
There are no USBs or 12V sockets in the back? And no 12V socket in the boot either?
Again excellent reviews
Been waiting for this review!
The perfect car for me (I hope) 😃, I ordered a Mazda CX30 Comfort plus in color midnightblue 🤩 Best regards from Austria 🇦🇹🤗
Cheers! Yeah, also in the driving part!
An OVT or BBR tune can get your 120hp 2.0L to ~180hp crank for a cheap price
Gerard Joaquino Don’t believe that is possible yet with the MHEV engine used in the Mazda 3 and CX-30.
Not the new skyktiv G. It's a different engine then the old one.
@@mikkelmandrup7980
It should be possible because in Canada the car has 165HP or something like that.
While this is true, Mazda sold 300,000 cars in 2018. Multiply that by 10€, and you'll see why they don't do that.
Thanks! Not possible to carry child seats with us on events, sorry m8
shenava Alex on Autos will do the child seat test.
Thomas, full HD and full screen is ok, but full length is hard because this is really long
not quite panoramic roof, i think they call it sunroof or moonroof
In the US, we will probably get the upgraded 2.5L G as well as this new X engine. I would probably opt for the 2.5L G engine in this vehicle, not an early adopter of new technology. I enjoy your reviews.
The Asian spec CX-4 has a notably better appearance without the massive out of proportion black plastic cladding. The April edition of Mazda Zoom Zoom magazine provides a short interview with Chief Designer Ryo Yanagisawa explaining the reason for it.
I need the cx 4 here!!!!
Which is?
@@patrickm.4754 “We didn’t want it to look stocky,” says Chief Designer Ryo Yanagisawa, “so we used black plastic cladding in a relatively broad section and ensured the parts of the body where the colour isn’t blacked out looked slender. This makes the body look as if it is floating in mid-air.
4:38 Nice touch with the lens flare @autogefuhl
I’ve just got the x engine I love it
Hey Autogefühl. Do you have any review plans for the new honda civic hatchback? Would love to see that one
Hi Thomas, a very good review as usual but I do not like the blue colour on the dashboard! I do prefer all black! I think I am eager to get a test drive with the sky-active x engine!
thanks Richard!
I like new Mazda CX-30 video is very cool.
Gorgeous looking cross-over. Inside and out.
👌
Hi Thomas - which engine / config would you recommend in Poland. Skyactiv G ( which has CD) or Skyactiv X?
