Hey @AWDcutlass how did you bonded them together ? I’m building CF z31 pantera hatch I have the top piece done and I’m working on the bottom one now. Haven’t decided how to attach them yet.
I used the same epoxy that I used in the carbon infusion. Super strong bond
That was awesome! And it looked very...complicated. Good job, I kept thinking about how much work you put in and at every stage it looks reaaaally easy to screw something up and have to start over.

Yes this is the coolest I have been wanting to do the same thing to my s10 blazer project since I saw the street bandito channel do it and then I saw this super dope car on hoonigan and it just push me in the direction some more now I just need a to get an infusion kit

Would like to know info on where to get the materials for this, looked into several different websites as well as searched through here to try and decide what to use, planning on making carbon hood, tailgate, and bumpers for my 1976 F100

super result. congratulations on super video. I would like to ask that I use some glue to bond the fabric to the mold, and would like to use it. because when I used Infutac, clear. the top side was completely broken
How did you do threads for the bolts? And did you reinforce the lock cylinder mounting area?
For gluing up the top and bottom pieces, did you vacuum bag the two pieces while the resin cures?
Looking to doing this on some of my panels on my trans am. I saw you used 4 layers of carbon, any specific type? We only use structural stuff on the yachts we build......not pretty. Also, will the same results com using a polyester resin. We worked with epoxy and hated it, it smells awful.
What did you use to bridge the gaps in on the underside? (White stuff) Plasticine?

If you were to make a part with an oblong shape out of carbon fiber (like a fender or front facia), would you run the "fill tube" (not sure what its called) along the edge of the part like you did with this part? Or would such a shape be much more difficult?

How did you put the top hood piece with the back battom piece together ? Great work! Though I'm wondering how the hinges will attach to the under support with strength. I thought u were going to install some kind of metal pieces within the sandwiched carbon pieces. Unnecessary? Very curious. 👍
I added a few metal straps with bolts for the hinges

How were the halves bonded together? Adhesive? Brand?
I used the same epoxy that the panels are made from to adhere them together
Is it necessary to do the underside too? I thought that was to strengthen the steel and that it's not necessary with CF

You make great content and people came to see your work. There's really no need to hire a Wedding Videographer to edit your videos.
How did you stop the epoxy from getting under the bag , and what kind of bag are you using, is it specific for composite or a generic clear plastic
Darrington Morris I had to build the bag for this part. It’s a specific plastic sheet designed for vacuum infusion. The resin is vacuum infused into the parts
@@AWDCUTLASS sorry I meant how did you stop the epoxy resin from getting underneath the mold since the whole mold is vacuum bag? Is there a border around the edge of the mold? Thanks for the fast reply, I'm very interested in the composites industry
Darrington Morris very little gets on the back side. The resin flows through the path of least resistance. Since the bag is sucked flat against the smooth surface of the mold the resin is forced through the carbon.

did you calculate before you inject your resin what's the proper amount to inject(based on the weight of the fiber you are using)? Or you just inject resin and stop just when your resin reach the other part of your mold?
I calculated what was needed and added a bit more to be safe. I shut it off when the fluid reaches the other end

7 layers. I don’t remember the weight of cf. the build was a few years ago

Why did u use two different types of gelcoat? How did u manage to use "2-sided" bag instead of 1-sided attached to the flange, so the other side of the mold wasn't flood by resin? Great job btw, great inspiration!

As I’ve learned with my car,
Carbon fiber parts will curl and deform over time.
Only if you use bad products
Then Audi must’ve used really bad products because some of my CF trim/panels warped badly.
It’s why I’m here watching your tutorials lol
$900.00 for a 3x12” piece of CF trim seems a little extreme.
