    Regarding the 10G discussion, you are right, the switch will provide me either 1G or 10G, but not 2.5G or 5G. This one major reason I don't do networking videos because I really don't know much about it.
    However the reason for not wanting a board without it is valid as I didn't want to have to ditch my vertical mount that I wanted to use.
    Anyway, carry on!

      @Jayztwocents probably varies by switch manufacturer/model, but I have a unifi usw-enterprisexg-24 (looks like it claims it'll negotiate anything between 100mb to 10g by the color coding in the ui) that I have my 10g stuff plugged into, when my main (old) pc crashed I pulled out my for-the-heck-of-it build which has built in 2.5g and it's negotiating it just fine (win 10). The issue I do have is 1 device (my truenas) won't connect to that machine through its 10g, maybe a conflict between the AMD based system and the 3rd party intel nic? My old system (win 7 with intel x920 and x990) both worked fine with the same 10g pci card.

      @oppressorable หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If I remember correctly, Taichi does have a USB4 port, from which you could get an external Thunderbolt/USB4 to 10gbe nic.

      So the Coolermaster vertical bracket you are planning on using has 2 tabs at the top that can be removed (it’s to allow it to be used in mATX cases) that may allow you to use a 10G NIC with a low profile bracket. I considered doing this as well but everyone was out of stock of that vertical bracket. Also depends on where the PCIE slots line up as well.

    I live in the promised land of Southwestern Ohio. I have 2 Microcenters equidistant from my house, one in Sharonville (Cincinnati suburb) and the other in Columbus. The first time I ever visited I had printed a list of parts for my build and was losing myself in the shelves to start looking for the parts. A guy comes up to me and asks if he can help and I said I was just looking for some parts I have on a list and showed him the list. He then said, "I'll run back and get these for you." He was gone for about 15 minutes and came back not just with the parts on the list, but had 3 substitutions along with the ones I had on the list and proceeded to explain in detail why he had the substitutions. That was the single best computer shopping trip of my life and is the reason I only shop at Microcenter these days. That is the power of having good customer service and knowledgeable associates.

They originated in the South American Rainforest, where they would often have to forge rivers, again this method protected their items from getting wet.
      Archival footage was found of them performing on of their many ritual dances, in it you can see them dancing with their hands held up, as of holding two trays or baskets of goodies up and out of reach of animals they would encounter in the jungle/rainforest. 🤷🤷‍♂️🤷🤷‍♂️

    I really miss this about PC building. I remember when I built my first PC and going to stores that sold PC components to buy everything... being able to hold the product, and there's just something about being able to do that, that's missing from PC building for those of us without a MC.

    • @robertfrederick7125
      @robertfrederick7125 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's something I miss as well. When I use to live down South in S. Florida, I could go to CompUSA shop and be home assembling my computer within an hour with drivetime included. Have an issue, be back to the store with new component in 30 minutes. Now I can only shop online and if there is an issue, it's phone calls and a good week or more to get replacements.
      Even if I tried to go to a Microcenter, they are all a 5-hour drive and then a 5-hour drive back. So, a good 11-12 hours on top of having to use toll roads to get there for half the journey. God, forbid I get the machine home and there is an issue, and I have to drive back for new parts. Funny there are 5 stores within 30 minutes of each other but none upstate where I am located.

    Just so you know, depending on the case that coolermaster vertical mount can take up fewer slots, there’s a plate on the back that can be removed that allows you to use only the top three or four slots by mounting it higher (which can interfere with some tall AIO blocks). That usually does leave a slot unobstructed on full ATX boards.

    Certainly! The phrase "I digress" is a fascinating one, often used in both spoken and written communication to signal a departure from the main topic of discussion. It’s like a verbal or written acknowledgment that the speaker or writer has strayed from the primary subject and is about to steer back to it.
    The term "digress" itself comes from the Latin word "digressus," which is the past participle of "digredi," meaning "to go apart" or "to deviate." In essence, when someone says "I digress," they are indicating that they have momentarily diverged from their intended path of conversation or argument. This digression might be intentional or accidental, but the speaker or writer feels a need to address it, often to ensure clarity or to refocus the audience's attention.
    The act of digressing can serve several purposes. On one hand, it allows for the inclusion of additional, often relevant, information that might enrich the primary discussion. For instance, a historian might digress into a brief anecdote about a particular event to provide context or illustrate a point more vividly. On the other hand, it can also serve as a moment of reflection or personal insight that adds depth to the conversation or narrative.
    However, digressions can be a double-edged sword. While they offer opportunities for added detail and engagement, they also have the potential to distract or confuse the audience if not managed properly. It’s a delicate balance-straying too far from the main topic can cause the listener or reader to lose track of the original point, undermining the overall coherence of the message.
    In written texts, particularly academic or formal writing, digressions are often minimized or avoided altogether to maintain focus and clarity. In contrast, in more casual or conversational contexts, digressions are not only more acceptable but can also add a layer of personality and relatability to the communication.
    So, when someone uses the phrase "I digress," they are essentially pausing to acknowledge that they’ve taken a detour. It’s a way of signaling to the audience that, while the tangent may have been interesting or informative, the primary discussion will now resume. It’s a small yet significant part of effective communication, reflecting both the complexity and fluidity of human discourse.

    Microcenter is wonderful. I don't get a change to get to one often, but they are the store Fry's wishes they had been. I know everyone wants then to open new stores everywhere, but that's a trap more than one retailer has fallen into. Given the dollar value of the inventory they carry, every new store puts financial load on the company. They also need to make sure to hire the sort of staff that the current stores have. Some of it is training, but most staff I've interacted with exude enthusiasm and seem to genuinely enjoy their job. You can't train that.
