Love your thumbnails- they immediately trigger the memory of seeing the toys back in the day😊 Skywarp was one of the first Tansformers my friends and I saw at the local toyshop here in New Zealand in 1985 (that's when they first got here). I actually got that particular Skywarp for Christmas that year and still have him with the box so it takes me back right to the beginning!
Yep! I still have my originals and most of the boxes and pamphlets, plastic part trees etc. Some I scrapbooked, ie, cut the art out and put in a scrapbook! Also a few Transformer merchandise from the day- Soundwave beach towel, the duvet cover set, bathroom set (toothbrush /soap holder)party cups and plates etc. And for me this time of year just brings it all back🥹@@80sTransfromersFan
Skywarp is one of the sharpest looking G1 Transformers. I used to work at a Service Merchandise back in the 90's, use to buy G2 Transformers as they came in the store, just brought me back. Didn't realize the many variants Skywarp has also didn't know he wasn't in the Diaclone line. Thanks for the knowledge!
Dang, I remember Service Merchandise... I was there once w/ my Mom shopping and saw both Deluxe Autobots... I said to my Mom, "please, please, can I get one of these!?" And she said, no... BUT, I have both of them now. :)
Funny enough I believe I got my Skywarp from Service Merchandise. I used to look forward to their catalog, and regularly look at the toy section, and fantasize about having all the Transformers and GI Joes in it.

I couldn't agree more about leaving the worn and sometimes skewed original stickers on the 80's toy. I think it gives it more nostalgia that a kid 40 years ago applied those themselves. And it gives the toy that played patina.
Skywarp was the second Seeker I received as a kid. My first was Thundercracker, but never Starscream. Thundercracker was always my favorite, but Skywarp was a close second.

That Starscream's tech specs were incorrect. & that Bob Budiansky once admitted to that in an interview. I also have the action cards of the Transformers in late 1985, early 1986 that corrected his tech specs. Those same cards also corrected Blitzwing's function. From Ground & Air Commander. To Ground & Air Commando, which makes more sense, since he was pretty much a background character.
He's the only seeker jet I ever got but while Starscream was the holy grail, I actually preferred Skywarp because of that color scheme. Perfect evil color combo. One of the most iconic Transformers for me.
Great stop motion intro there. That's very interesting. I didn't know that the Skywarp with purple tailfins, launchers, nose cone and accessories actually existed as a toy. I figured he was sort of like blue Bluestreak (which eventually got debunked as ONLY being in Diaclone.) He would've looked good with that extra purple, not sure why it was changed. Sounds like it is SUPER rare though. Wow. I wonder what the story is. Maybe the black plastic was cheaper? Although, the purple Skywarp has is more of a lilac. It's definitely lighter than the purple we see on the Constructicons, Insecticons, Astrotrain and Blitzwing etc. That's what I would call Decepticon Purple. But maybe that makes Skywarp even more special. I think Skywarp may be the best looking of the Decepticon jets, though Thundercracker looks pretty good too, with his sparkly blue color. I always thought the ammo for the launchers were bombs or missiles, and laser cannons. Though it doesn't make much sense to launch your laser cannons off. Though in the cartoon, the jets shot lasers in both modes, even though it looked like they were carrying bombs or missiles in jet mode.
100% coolest looking seeker i dont have him though sadly, but that okay because i have starscream, and thrust but in the cartoon he was kinda a waste but man his toy is amazing!!!
@@80sTransfromersFan I ended up giving my younger brother that thundercracker on his bday that next year along with a shrapnel.. Wrapped in tin foil and to this day he may get me something and do it like how I did then. Laughs crazy he remembered that but awesome.

Nice review 🥰 I also had Skywarp as a kid but I got him from a kid in the neighbourhood... bought him for 10 german Marks from my pocketmoney because I never had seen Skywarp in any toy stores. Here in germany Transformers was not that popular as it was in the US or UK back in those days. It was very hard to get the first released characters from 1984 over here. But I was able to get some into my possession and one of them was a used Skywarp. The guy from which I'd bought him had lost both of the fists, the null-ray insert cannons and one of the rockets. But I had at least both of the rocket launchers and one of the rockets. I think it was a Diaclone version of Skywarp, because he came with a black Diaclone rubber bomb with a yellow shaft. The guy from which I'd bought him, told me he got him from Italy as he and his parents went there for holydays. So that's my Skywarp story. Still love this toy and nowadays I have him as a Hasbro reissue (finally with both of his fists) 🤜😉🤛
The Skywarp you had as a kid was the GIG version released in parts if Europe and Italy. The large safety missiles are a dead giveaway. I love that you took the time to share your experiences with me and the rest of us thank you!

I think most of us kept the landing gear in the cockpit just like Optimus Primes fist in the cab. I will make sure to mention that in Thundercracker review.
Did Glasslite do Transformers in Brazil given that Glasslite had history with Hasbro in Brazil through them having the GI Joe rights in Brazil. The purple nosed Skywarp being South American variant would have been sold in Brazil under the Glasslite brand as well as the Spanish South American countries where IG had the licence from Hasbro

I can tell you now. They were going to have two Cyclonus like the sweeps but only two same names and personalities the idea was drop in production. And the scene was already animated. So they were both Cyclonus. So at a Botcon panel a writer from the 86 movie was asked so which character was dropped? Then he went on record to say "It makes more sense for Skywarp to be Megatron lieutenant than Bombshell " So it was a official unofficial statement from a writer that worked on the movie.
The Japanese TV version of the More Than Meets The Eye mini series that started the series would have had Starscream as the first Decepticon to be revived whereas the original USA and rest of the world version had Skywarp
I'm 100% sure the British version of Skywarp has purple missiles. I will go up the attic and dig it out at some point. I think the colours for the missile launcher was inverted, and I'm pretty sure the landing wheel was black. The nose cone was definitely black though.
Damn I had Skywarp with purple tails when I was a kid but gave my Transformers away to a kid a couple of doors down when I was 12 or 13. I can't remember if the nose cone was purple or not, but both the horizontal and vertical tail fins were purple. I bought it at a Toys R Us in San Antonio, Tx in 1984 or 1985. I remember having a hard time deciding between Skywarp or Starscream in the store, ended up going Skywarp since I liked the purple and since Starcream was such a dumbass on the cartoon.

Skywarp was an underutilized character as far as the U.S. cartoon goes. One of my favorites.
