As a fellow mechanic I love the sarcasm "..yeah that why they have so little power, because log manifolds don't work." Freaking key board you tube technicians be like " nah only way to turbo has to be tuned length " Love your work Al keep it up.
i also noticed that. was certain he had the opposite idea when they did the twin turbo ls swap. as long as the runners are big enough the piping almost doesn't matter.
Hard to argue with the Barra 270T - might be a bit primitive here and there around the edges but it's so easy to get power, it all definitely works.
Im not saying that tuned length custom manifolds don't have their place they do and if you are shooting for big power every bit helps, but if you are doing your own install or a basic set up start with a basic log set up, manufactures use them because they get the job done and they are cheaper to mass produce.
Exactly, it's the usual accelerating cost vs diminishing returns equation.

I fully expect to see the Skid Factory become it's own channel. They're killing it with the likes/views,enough to where they probably would make much more revenue over just getting paid by MCM. I mean don't get me wrong MCM is great but I doubt they like this channel getting so much love over....well you know refurbishing wheels....

My uncle cut the floor to put a v8 in the same model, did all the work himself and it was a beast with fats on the back and all blacked out. He would appreciate what your going through and this was in the late 80s.

This would be a nice sleeper on the track as its weight balance will be awesome! Maybe add some suspension upgrades and this will be one heck of a ride!

I had the same troubles fitting the engine into The Slug... I had it sitting at on a little trolley with wheels and rolled the whole lot under the car and lowered the body over the top and kept cutting until it fit. Then crawled under and made the mounts. The way mine is setup the motor mounts to the chassis and the front end is completely separate and detached. Cool job!!

The plasma cutter is my favorite tool too. There is nothing more satisfying than cutting metal with the 4th phase of matter.

This is the work I'd love to be doing, even as a shitkicker. Hands on the tools, think of a problem, solve it. Cut,weld,brace,re-weld close enough for govt work. No management on your back apart from Barry who was getting his van back "when it's finished" thank you boys at the skid factory and your collaborations with the MCM boys, I can live vicariously through you 20 minutes at a time
can i conclude that this is going to run off the newly released haltech plug and play for the barra? this is gonna be sick

Such a bummer they were discontinued. Genuinely nice motors. I really wanted to get a few for projects, but seems like by the time i'll manage to get time and money put together to import a pair to EU, they'll cost an arm and a leg.

I'm really enjoying this series. Here in Blighty the Bedford van is as recognizable as old Transits - and for the same bad reasons!
I think what I am enjoying the most about this build is the head scratching, remeasuring and just trying to figure it out. So easy to identify with, we've all been there!

I think my favorite thing about Allen is that, when he speaks you just don't question anything the guy says. He's always talking about how the OEM engineers got things wrong, and i'd never question him.
Al, I was thinking you could cut a hole in the engine cover and have the valve cover stick out into the engine bay, and then you could CNC out of billet aluminum or titanium a new valve cover with cup-holders in it. Solid lifters for the win...
