    Everything about this performance was perfect… from the spotlighting to the slow walk up the stairs to put them at the same height to the surprise reveal of the backup singers showcased that gorgeous back and forth of those fabulous voices. One of my favorite videos to watch.

    "Unchained Melody" is phenomenal and it was a hit a second time when it was featured in the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg. Their other #1, sort of the matching companion to "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is "(You're My) Soul And Inspiration". Bill Medley (the one with the deep voice) also hit #1 in the 80's with his duet with Jennifer Warnes "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing, another Patrick Swayze movie.

    I believe this was the most played song in the late 20th century. They were righteous, brother! Bobby does a live solo version on the Andy Williams show of Unchained Melody. Possibly the greatest live performance ever imho. Try to get the longer version intro explaining why it’s a solo with Bobby and Bill talking to Andy before the actual performance. It’s amazing.

      The reason given is a joke, though. They actually each did one solo per album and they flipped a coin to see who got to do Unchained Melody. Bobby (and the world) won the coin toss. No offense to Bill intended. His voice is amazing, but that song was better with Bobby's voice than anyone's.

    According to BMI, this is the most requested/played/air time song of the 20th century. This is yet another live performance on a variety show = no auto tune or computer aids here in '64. This song is primarily sung by Bill Medley. Their next hit - Unchained Melody ('65) is a solo from Bobby Hatfield; their 3rd big hit - Soul and Inspiration ('66) both sing one verse each with the finale mostly by Medley. Side note from this video: one of the chorus singers is a young Cher. Their harmony is just pure magic. And yes, back in the day, a weekly TV pamphlet would be mailed out listing shows/air time/channel for the coming week. Believe me, when this duo was going to appear "live" on a show all us gals would be tuned in, wishing "our night in shining armor" would serenade us like they did.

    As has been said: Unchained Melody from the Andy Williams Show is a must. Bobby (the blonde tenor here) sang it solo and hit some insane number of separate notes during the performance. It will blow your socks off. I marvel to this day that anyone was ever capable of singing like that and looking like they were having a conversation. Effortless. Most perfect singing I've ever encountered. To top it off, he wasn't feeling well, and was nervous because his parents were in the audience. Stellar vocals on Bobby Hatfield.

    The Righteous Brothers are amazing - obviously. They have many hits. I would ask that you do a reaction to their song "Rock and Roll Heaven''. It's not as popular in the mainstream as some of their other hits, but it's still a great tribute song to the early legends in rock and roll.

      Really? I knew Cher was a backup singer, but I had no clue her husband Sunny produced it, nor than one of my favorite country boys Glen Campbell was on this track. I'm not surprised by Leon, as he is on albums by the Beach Boys, Dick Dale, Jan and Dean, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. One of his early fans, Elton John, said that Russell was a "mentor" and an "inspiration." Where did you learn about Sunny and Eric and Leon on this song? I'd love to read about it.

    UNCHAINED MELODY
    A must see video, featuring Bobby Hatfield, as seen on The Andy Williams Show in 1965.
    Please watch the video from beginning ( where Andy introduces them) to the end user Bill, Bobby and Andy sing together.
    You've Lost That Loving Feeling ( Cher was a back up singer) was the Most played song of the 20th century. It has been covered.
    Unclaimed Melody is the most covered song ever with swoon over 670 covrrs. Elvis covered it in his last album. There is a video of Elvis singing it at his last concert in 1977 shortly before his death.
    This song is featured in the movie Ghost ( the pottery wheel scene and at the end of the movie).
    This song was written for a small prison movie called Unchained ( in the 1950's) and was covered 3 times before Bobby made this song his own.
    (Al Hibbler did the best cover before Bobby)
    The version heard in Ghost is from the original recording. Bobby wanted to showcase his wide vocal range and did a slightly different version on Andy's show.
    Facts: Bobby was 24 when he sang Unchained Melody on Andy's show. He was extremely nervous ( it was a live performance on tv with a viewership of well over 1 million. [Andy's show was very popular for many years] ) His mother was I the audience ( sitting behind him to the left) and Bobby had a cold. I think you will agree that he knocked it out of the park. Listen to both the recorded and live versions, to hear the differences.
    Soul and Inspiration, You'll Never Walk Alone, Rock and Roll Heaven are 3 more duets to listen to.
    I Just want to make love to you ( Bill solo)
    Summertime ( Bobby solo)
    The Time of My Life, from the final dance scene in the movie Dirty Dancing is a Bill Medley duet with Jennifer Warens.

    This was the most played radio & tv song of the 20th century and held that honor up until 2019 when the song EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE passed them up. They were a fantastic duo. The tenor Bobby Hatfield passed away 15-20 years ago. They got their name while singing at a place near a marine base in California , when a person got up and complemented them by saying “that was Righteous brother”. Other big hits you could react to UNCHAINED MELODY & YOUR MY SOUL AND INSPIRATION. this was a great reaction and you have a blessed day.

  • @bob_._.

    Yeah, they were BIG. You gotta do "Unchained Melody," a solo effort by Bobby Hatfield and just amazing.

    • @elizabethrogers8306
      @elizabethrogers8306 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wasn't a "solo effort". It was just a song written for one voice and Bobby was elected to sing it. He was not going out on his own. Also, Cher was a background singer for them at one point.

    • @bob_._.
      @bob_._. ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@elizabethrogers8306 Please forgive me for using the term "solo" to describe a performance voiced by only one singer. I stand corrected; Bobby's effort was obviously and completely a "half duo."
      ffs, pedants gotta suck all the oxygen outta the comments.

    1964 was a very good year. The Beatles stormed the U.S. in February, I came along in October, & then there is this. The taller deeper voice is from Bill Medley who sang the feature song, "Time of My Life" with Jennifer Warnes for Dirty Dancing.

      @SherryDocchio 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it was. There is another TH-cam clip of this performance where the fans screaming wasn't edited out. Sometimes when people remix these old clips to isolate just the music the whole vibe is lost. Example: Medley singing "everything I do", where he's looking downward, he was singing to some girls that were screaming every time he moved. So sweet and what a thrill for them.@@doloreskrisky1670

      The Righteous Brothers Version was definitely the most popular version!!
      BUT....Unchained Melody was already a hit in 1954-55 by Roy Hamilton. It was also featured in a Movie in the 50's about a Prisoner wondering if his Love would still be waiting for him when he was finally set free.
      Elvis Presley also Sang Unchained Melody at his Final filmed Concert Preformance on June 21, 1977 just weeks before his Passing. I would recomend you listen to Elvis's Live Audio Version first, Recorded on
      April 24, 1977 4 months before He Passed, as it was vocally his best :

      I would wait to see the Live filmed Concert Version until after you see the 2022 Elvis Bio Pic Movie 🎬 which I'm sure most Elvis fans would enjoy watching with you !!

    Love to see reacting as you do , really appreciating like you did ! The hottest, romantic and soulful group of the 60's. They were called Blue eyed souls ! we only listened through the radio or vynil and everybody thought they were black, the bests of R&B, until the
    tv became affordable... and we realize they were white 😅 !
    Their name was chosen after a tour through the south when they performed in a saloon near a black marine base and some went see them.
    They were so impressed that shouted what they used to : that's righteous, brothers! They never fail you, allways give chills ! Thunder and Lightning g. They sing solo, 🔥 Bill's I wanna make love to you or absolutely surrey Bobby's Summertime !!! And together their harmonies are spotless, moving and brilliant. But don't forget the most famous love song ... Bobby's Unchained Melody

    and
    "Rock and Roll Heaven" (1974)
    From 2 different decades, which is very apparent when you see these music videos.

    Bill Medley take the lead in this song. They each have songs that they take the lead. Unchained Melody is basically a solo for Bobby Hatfield and is beautiful!

    look up the video of Bobby Hatfield doing "Summertime", he's the one who sang "Unchained Melody", totally different feeling to the song, almost like 2 different singers.

    You absolutely MUST listen to Unchained Melody from the Andy Williams Show from 1965. It is a solo sung by Bobby Hatfield. It will freak you out.

    Had to add another comment after I heard your feedback. You said they were performers. Well b4 they became famous they performed the 2AM shows in Vegas. Frank Sinatra caught their act and took them under his wing. He referred to them as "the kids". Sinatra would take his entourage to see the Righteous Brother shows. The R.B.s credit Sinatra for showing them how to be performers and entertainers instead of just singers. It comes through when you see them perform live.

    There debut song was “Little Latin Lupe Lu”. There big hits were this one, of course, and “(You’re My) Soul & Inspiration”, Bobby’s “Unchained Melody”; view this one live on the Andy Williams Show. If you want to hear the other sides of them, listen to Bobby’s “Summertime” and Bill’s “I Just Want to Make Love To You”. “You’ll Never Walk Alone” on the Ed Sullivan Show! You won’t be disappointed!

    Try "Unchained Melody" a live performance from the Andy Williams show in 1965. Bobby Hatfield (high voice) sings it solo. Many think that is the greatest live performance ever. I agree. I've seen 2 versions of the tape. One is longer and starts with a brief and funny conversation between Bobby, Bill and Andy Williams. Same song in both versions, but it is fun to see the intro.

    Like so many others said it, you have to hear UNCHAINED MELODY - brought back big time in the film GHOST. This one, you just heard was also used in TOP GUN and TOP GUN MAVERICK...

    A little piece of trivia - one of the the backing singers is a very young Cher.

    This is a clip from the TV show Shindig, where they were regularly featured. It's been remastered. You can hear the audience screaming in the unremastered video. They'd had a top 40 hit with Little Latin Lupe Lu, but this was their first #1.
