I'm 75, and back then we didn't know what our favorite singers looked like until we saw them live on television, and we didn't care; we just loved our music. The Righteous Brothers were a really big hit with everyone, and their song Unchained Melody is a classic still loved very much now, sixty years later.

I feel so sorry for anyone who was not blessed to remember the fabulous 1960’s and early 70’s music. The Golden Age of rock n roll raw talent. These artists went into the studio, recorded their songs, and that was it. The talent was incredible. Especially since there was zero manipulation or changes to the recordings. We Boomers had the best of the best, no question whatsoever.

I think they came out even earlier (1962 or 1963) on a label called Moonglow. You should hear the little string of hits they had at that time -- wild and uptempo. Listen to "Koko Joe", "My Babe", "B-Flat Blues", "Little Latin Lupe Lu", "Try to Find Another Man". I cannot understand why reactors don't pull up those early hits and REALLY enjoy the greatness of the Righteous Brothers.

I was one year old when this came out. I'm 61...soon 62...now.. I discovered them when I was in my 40's.... And have loved them ever since And... Yes... They were crooners and well known for melting ladies out of their clothes. Many men owe these guys a lot of gratitude...lol.

Blue Eyed Soul is how I have heard it explained as. I was 16 when this was recorded and the girls of the day went crazy over their sound. You have got to remember that this is live, no electronics, no auto tune, just plain talent. Many singers of that era made classics that many still sing word for word today. Unchained Melody was and is the most copied song in history and Bobby singing it solo just killed it. Go back into the 60's charts and see the talent we had back then and you will be surpised.
You'll never hear voices like this again because today everything is autotuned to get rid of all the wobbles and mistakes. These guys were naturally perfect and were singing live.
I was 14 teen when this came out and I got to watch it at a neighbor house which I wasn’t supposed to be over there and boy. It was great sitting on the floor watching the on TV saying this song now at 72 it brings back many memories. And don't worry about thinking they were black when they started singing and you couldn't see their faces. They sing with such soul that many people think that. I too have been misguided by my ears before. Dobie Gray was a black singer that I didn't know was black until I saw a video. If you get a chance check out his song "Drift Away". Back in the day, we listened to music, good music, great music, funny music. Big Band tunes and the very best singers that ever walked the planet. I was born in '55, when the King of Rock 'n Roll was singing about houndogs and shaking his stuff in the jailhouse. I became "aware" when I heard Roy Orbison on a 9-volt transister radio and the world exploded like nuclear skyrocket when The Beatles headlined on Ed Sullivan and the rest is history. None of us cared what color the singer's skin was, it was their sound and their character onstage. Chuck Barry and Louis Armstrong, Nat "King" Cole and Aretha Franklin, but then Ol' Blue Eyes was a tough act to follow, so was The Fifth Dimension and The Temptations; later on we were diggin' us some Carlos Santana. And everyone who was hip was also way cool. We did that little thing called Woodstock;) days of music, brotherhood and love ... and Jimmy Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner. I'm pushing 70 now, but I'm glad that I was born into possibly the greatest time to ever live through. Sorry for the ramble, sometimes I just get going ...

They had great soulful love songs but they were also known for letting it rip as you will see in some of their other duo and solo performances. Yes! Their inspiration was R&B which in those days was all 'coloured music', so plenty of people thought they were black when they first heard them. For their first three years they sang raucous rock and roll and were really popular in clubs and dances on the west coast, but in 1964 Phil Specter became their producer and gave them ballads like this one. Bill's bass baritone voice mixed with Bobby's high tenor with a stunning harmony that no group before or since has duplicated, but individually they had powerful voices as soloists. They were so impressed that shouted what they used to : that's righteous, brothers! They never fail you, allways give chills ! I've long loved these guys since my mom played their music as I was growing up. If you want to hear some talent from now check out the acappella groups of Home Free and Voice Play. The music from these two groups are like what my generation grew up with and they have some very good beatboxers for background tempo no mechanical instruments just voice.
I like Pentatonix but for some reason I like the other two better. They have a more refined style that doesn't hit my ear the same way. I'm glad that we all have our favorites and can support them.@@larrymcneilis856

Blue Eyed Soul is how I have heard it explained as. I was 16 when this was recorded and the girls of the day went crazy over their sound. You have got to remember that this is live, no electronics, no auto tune, just plain talent. Many singers of that era made classics that many still sing word for word today. Unchained Melody was and is the most copied song in history and Bobby singing it solo just killed it. Go back into the 60's charts and see the talent we had back then and you will be surpised.

We didn't have u-tube back then, had no idea what they looked like, just loved their sound. Ease never crossed my mind, just knew they had soul.
I was 14 teen when this came out and I got to watch it at a neighbor house which I wasn’t supposed to be over there and boy. It was great sitting on the floor watching the on TV saying this song now at 72 it brings back many memories. Righteous brothers was bad and they went on for years great to see the younger generation learning about great artists of the past

And don't worry about thinking they were black when they started singing and you couldn't see their faces. They sing with such soul that many people think that. I too have been misguided by my ears before. Dobie Gray was a black singer that I didn't know was black until I saw a video. If you get a chance check out his song "Drift Away". It was a classic when I was growing up and I never knew he was black. I appreciate his music even more now. But I loved your honest reaction to this music video. 👍👍
I’m 77 yrs old. Everyone thought they were black until their album came out with their pictures on it. All their songs were over the top!

Back in the day, we listened to music, good music, great music, funny music. Big Band tunes and the very best singers that ever walked the planet.
I was born in '55, when the King of Rock 'n Roll was singing about houndogs and shaking his stuff in the jailhouse. I became "aware" when I heard Roy Orbison on a 9-volt transister radio and the world exploded like nuclear skyrocket when The Beatles headlined on Ed Sullivan and the rest is history.
None of us cared what color the singer's skin was, it was their sound and their character onstage. Chuck Barry and Louis Armstrong, Nat "King" Cole and Aretha Franklin, but then Ol' Blue Eyes was a tough act to follow, so was The Fifth Dimension and The Temptations; later on we were diggin' us some Carlos Santana.
And everyone who was hip was also way cool. We did that little thing called Woodstock;) days of music, brotherhood and love ... and Jimmy Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner.
I'm pushing 70 now, but I'm glad that I was born into possibly the greatest time to ever live through.

Definitely check out Bobby Hatfield’s “Unchained Melody” and the Righteous Brothers’ “Soul and Inspiration” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone” on the Ed Sullivan Show, “Just Once In My Life”. Their debut song was “Little Latin Lupe Lu”. If you want to hear soul, listen to Bill Medley’s “I Just Want To Make Love to You” and Bobbie’s “Summertime”. Bobby had a 4 or 5 octave voice. They could sing anything!

Sadly Bobby has been gone for 20 years but the baritone Bill Medley at age 83 is still performing with a new partner. I saw them last year in CA & saw the original brothers perform in IN about 1966. All these years and I still love their music.

Watched your reaction to this dynamic duo several times and it's priceless. They really were "top notch" and you have so much more to discover. They had great soulful love songs but they were also known for letting it rip as you will see in some of their other duo and solo performances. Yes! Their inspiration was R&B which in those days was all 'coloured music', so plenty of people thought they were black when they first heard them. For their first three years they sang raucous rock and roll and were really popular in clubs and dances on the west coast, but in 1964 Phil Specter became their producer and gave them ballads like this one. Bill's bass baritone voice mixed with Bobby's high tenor with a stunning harmony that no group before or since has duplicated, but individually they had powerful voices as soloists. You should also check out their songs "Soal And Insperation" , or even " Unchained Melody", " Rock N Roll Heaven. The deep voice is Bill Melody and the other is Bobby Hatfield. Their name was chosen after a tour through the south when they performed in a saloon near a black marine base and some went see them.
They were so impressed that shouted what they used to : that's righteous, brothers! They never fail you, allways give chills ! I've long loved these guys since my mom played their music as I was growing up. If you want to hear some talent from now check out the acappella groups of Home Free and Voice Play. The music from these two groups are like what my generation grew up with and they have some very good beatboxers for background tempo no mechanical instruments just voice.
If you are going to recommend Acapella groups, how can you POSSIBLY leave out Pentatonix and their fantastic musical talent?
I like Pentatonix but for some reason I like the other two better. They have a more refined style that doesn't hit my ear the same way. I'm glad that we all have our favorites and can support them.@@larrymcneilis856
