Your reaction is so honest. We, the 60's, were blessed with talent. It is so much fun to watch you young people as you learn to appreciate the Greatest Decade of music. Now you kind of understand why us Boomers are hard to impress with the music today. Thanks for sharing!

So true. Before MTV, when it was truly only about the music. Don't get me wrong, MTV in it's prime did a lot to get music out there, and I wish more of the 60's and 70's music was videotaped.

Speak for yourself. I'm a child of the 60's but never thought that or any other decade had a monopoly on good music. Yours and most other people's problem is that they stop listening to new stuff in their thirties and live in a state of arrested taste development, thinking that the music of their youth was the best.

Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield were indeed meant to sing together. They complement each other perfectly. This was a great time for music with a lot of talented bands and singers doing their thing. We were the ones who benefitted. Love your reaction! There are a lot of young people who don't think good music existed before their time. Rest in peace, Bobby Hatfield! If there's a rock 'n roll Heaven, I know you're in the band!

I know. 😔 My wife spoke with his cousin not long after he passed. It is astonishing that he continued to sing so well, even getting better and reaching his highest notes as he got older, considering how he disregarded his health. I wish he could witness the rebirth of passionate interest in his and Bill Medley's music with entirely new generations of people. I'm sure he would have been deeply touched as he loved to sing and was very proud of this song in particular. RIP Bobby Hatfield.

No, you're right...she's back there to the left, reportedly just over Bobby's head. She was/is kind of tall, so some of the singers are on a riser and she and a few others are on the floor, not sure why they staged/blocked it out it this way for tv but I will assume aesthetics, height whatever.
EDIT: I just went to look up some information. If you are interested there is a site called song facts and they discuss the richness of this production, you know the Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" phenomena. They worked their asses off getting this song down in the studio, the brothers and Spector and it sure paid off in every conceivable way. I mean these guys could sing their asses off just in front of mic, as the youtuber is saying, they didnt need the fancy shit....BUT Spector was pretty fancy in his production techniques and innovations (slight echo, vocalists wearing headphones/monitors to get them out of their comfort zone and meld with the other musicians, etc) I don't want to write a book here, you can read the fascinating stuff yourself if you care to and I'll just add that Cher is most prominent in the end chorus of the popular recording of this song which is the traditional ABABCB format verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge (Spector came up with that call and response idea, so he must get some props!!! a friggin maniac apparently but something of a genius really), chorus and, although difficult to separate in the track, Glen Campbell is the guitarist for this session.

I had to make my boyfriend melt to know the truth. I was not cheating. I sent him a letter with that verse
"Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you. If you would only love like you used to do." He finally realized he was wrong & apologized. I hope he missed me like I missed him. I got him back though.

Again, a live performance on TV before auto-tune or other computer assist gimmicks. Just talent. The harmony between the baritone and high tenor is just amazing. They were referred to as "Blue-eyed Soul" as evidenced by their soulful singing. Us ladies of the 60's were serenaded by men whom respected us and weren't afraid to put their emotions into words. Talent of the magnitude can't be found today. And, these guys weren't the only ones! Every solo artist, duet, group recorded songs that were soft to the ers and pierced the hearts of us ladies. Intentionally. Not impressed with much nowadays- the standards were set too high "back in the day".

I get such a kick out of watching younger generations discover 60s music for the first time! Y'all are just as blown away by it as we were when i t first appeared. Our parents used to hate it, but now that most of them are gone, I can safely say that when it comes to great music, all the generations (who are left) are in perfect agreement. Thanks for this!

One of the epic performances one of the most popular songs of all time. This is what was called "Blue Eyed Soul". They weren't actual brothers and their name came from a night when they were performing at a marine base back when they were unknown and several of the Black servicemen said they were "righteous". Btw 17 year old Cher was one of the backup singers.

I grew up during a time when school systems actually taught the arts. From orchestra, bass, violin, piano, drums saxophone, ( just about any instrument ), to choir and singing the scales alone, ( A Capella ) while someone played piano to learning and perfecting song, to performing for parents and the community. You had to be on key or you didn’t qualify. The community provided the money for the instruments that the students played, and they were allowed to take instruments home to practice. Art classes discovered many true artist, who have gone on to become famous because they were taught how to draw, paint and sculpt. We need to go back to these days so children can explore their interests and abilities; not just for band to play during a football game. ( but at least there is this for those interested in instruments ). Everything was LIVE. Great review. 😊
