  • Mizuno JPX921 JPX919 JPX900 Forgiveness/Compare Testing is the aim of this video. I have created the first possible way to indicate the Forgiveness of an iron and potentially the improvement in design as the models are refined.

    I’ve been playing the 900 Forged for 3 years now, and its been a good club. I tend to add loft, so the lower ball flight didn’t bother me, most of the time. Last week I went for a fitting, and ended up going with the 921 HM Pro. More consistent distance and spin, better height, and even with it not being forged, to me, it feels much better. I am excited to get them in the bag for 2021.

    Love the face efficiency comparison graphic at the end of the video. Would love to see this on all of your videos, e.g. comparing efficiency of the iron you're testing against the average of irons in that category (players, GI, etc) or against standout models from that category. Great video!

    Think you are on something big here ! Knowing how forgiving a club is will help a lot of people make a informative purchase instead of the famous guessing game ! Would really love to see how some of the Mizuno stacks us against the Wilson Staff model ( my personal clubs ) Maybe even the Wilson V6 vs the Mizuno compact model they have . Keep up the great work !!

    You’ve done it again. Congratulations on featuring on the Mizuno.com website. Nice to see you getting recognition the the detail and depth of your reviews. Simply the best.
    Btw I the MP20 blades in 7I today. The least offset of any club that I’ve ever hit. I was surprised how well they went and further than my current JPX850 forged.
    Will have the MMC and HMB next for the 6-5 and 2-4 irons.
    I’m curious how the the 850 forged stand up to the 921 forged?

    Great review Jay, I initially watched this when it first was released but know that I have Titleist T-200’s this video has sparked my interest again
    I had the JPX 900 forged in 2017. Ironically the grooves on the 8 iron collapsed just 1 month after the 1 year warranty expired. I bought a replacement iron and sold the set on eBay.
    I’m a Mizuno fan, in 2010 I was custom fit for MP 58’s and kept those for nearly 8 years. Love the feel but forgiveness was lacking.
    Last spring I was custom fit for Titleist T-200’s which have a forged face with a cast body. I’m not happy with the off-center hits because from what I found out they’re hollow body without polymer filled in which results in a loud clacking noise. These things are super forgiving which is why I’m keeping them for now but the off-center hits sound ridiculous and feel like crap.
    At one point I’m going to compare them to the JPX 921 forged which I’m sure I’ll fall in love with Since there a solid forging. not sure if they’re as forgiving as the titanium filled T 200? Have you ever compared them in terms of feel sound and forgiveness?

  • @stephendibari5010
    @stephendibari5010 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Awesome 👏. Love that format with face %'s easy to follow ! I’ve had the 900 Forged for 1 season in 2017 and didn’t get used to the Boron infused feel. Felt too hard. And the finish wore off and they looked stained. How would you compare the JPX 921 Forged to the Ping i210’s in terms of feel and forgiveness? Obviously the 921’s being 2 deg stronger in the 7 iron will hit it longer than the i210’s.. so not a direct comparison since the 921’s are a players distance iron and the i210’s are more of a “players” iron.

  • @johnwallace520

    I played JPX900 forged for years and was never really happy because they flew lower than I wanted (and much lower than my previous JPX825 Pros) and only felt good on really centred shots. I am now playing MP225s and am so much happier and scoring much better. I wish I had seen your original review and realised that it wasn't me that was making it fly low, it was the club - I would have changed long ago!

    This is the kind of comparison we all like, very well done! Would you do the same with the 919 forged vs the 923 forged vs the 223's? I know lofts are different but it would be interesting to see how they compare forgiveness and spin wise. I also know 921 forged and 225 should be in the mix too, but as a leftie they're not an option for me. Also if you could slow down your to swing to around 82mph with a 7iron it would be even better! Thanks!

  • @gatgolf
    @gatgolf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    interesting idea. would be nice to see sample size for each and perhaps some other parameters like, carry and ball speed and efficiency plotted in addition to total distance %. Seem like a very good way to objectively test 'forgiveness'.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the feedback 👍 Only problem with making it more detailed is that effectively it would make it even harder for the average person to grasp what is being explained and how that applies to them. The best way to narrow it down to the easiest way to understand would be to measure effective distance drop off from miss-strikes. Of course you could go even further in measuring offline dispersion caused by off centre strikes and conversely in clubs with roll and bulge the actual gearing performance. But I think you'd agree that for the most part it would send everyone to sleep and only person's of a very specific nature would find it useful.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

      @@AskGolfNut Sorry for the geek-speak. Just suggesting you take the infographic you made a few steps further to improve the ability to see where and how much improvements were made between generations. The graphics you presented are useful and interesting, but I think we’d also benefit from a visualization of the comparative change between generations. Compare (a) 921 to (b) 919, (b) 919 to (c) 900, and (a) 921 to (c) 900 point-by-point to compute the percent changes for each. Either as a true % change or as a simple Xn-Yn (E.g. 921 sector 1 - 919 sector 1). Between a-b, b-c, a-c, determine the maximum difference so that you can scale the color gradient across all three images based on this maximum value. Presumably the difference between A-C is the most so the color strength should be brightest there and likely more subdued on A-B and B-C graphics. Outcome is instead of looking at 921-point1, 919-point1, 900-point1 for the numbers and doing the mental math, we’d see a graphic depicting that 921-point1 improved by 2 over 919-point1, etc. Basically doing the mental math for us between each club sector-by-sector.
      Hope that helps. If not, let me know and I’ll mock it up and post a link.

    Interesting review as always. I actually have the 900 forged and despite looking quite hard , can't find a better iron (for me). They go 10+ yards further per iron than anything else I've found and the flights are just perfect. Lovely towering Pw and 9i and easy to get the 4-5-6 into the air.
    I must be doing something 'wrong' to get this result and would love to find another set that reproduces this performance (especially now I've lost the 8 iron!), but it is proving very difficult.

      Hi David, bear in mind that the 921's are going to be renewed in the next few months. Not sure on the name yet let's assume 923. They'll be some minor improvements over 921 for sure, however there will also be a price increase that goes with it. My advice at present would be that as long as you are aware of this and don't mind having end of line product that will be let's say without knowing £15 per club cheaper than the new model, then go for it. The 921 series are a brilliant set of clubs 👍

      It's fairly easy to make the loft adjustment with understanding relative distance gapping etc. Is it ideal? No for sure but still there is a, common sense capture of how it performs relative to the others.

  • @RJWSuffolk
    @RJWSuffolk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looking at the lofts, the 900 is essentially a 6 iron, whilst the 919 is a 7 iron. From a higher h/c perspective, who may struggle to hit a 5 or even 6 iron with reasonable height, it seems unfair to compare the two. It does look like it would be worth upgrading from 900 to 921 - although probably mucking up the gapping with existing wedges.

      Because trying to get hold of a 7i considering how old it is was darn near impossible. Could have hoped to have got a standard one off ebay, but then unless you got it in the exact shaft the others were then people would then discount it due to that.
      Any comparison can be loft adjusted with a little bit of logic and common sense. If not every test would have to be done with all irons being exactly the same loft and since not all are forged and thus not able to be bent, essentially nullifies any test.
      Obviously for the vast majority of people they want to see how irons compare even with inescapable differences.
