I game the 921 forged, when struck well it’s like hitting a squash ball - sooo soft and that solid forged sound to boot.

“When struck well”, that’s the problem. Toe and heel strikes are punished a bit more than with the Apex. Off days are really off days with the 921, not so much with the Callaway. You’re better to judge your irons, or any club on your misses.

I went for a fitting on Saturday as my current Srixon irons were brought from a friend a long time ago,I was always missing greens to the right, with a high ballooning type flight... The fitter quickly realised the regular shafts in the Srixons were not for me and my club head speed(90mph ish)
I was leaning towards the Mizunos before I got there, however for me the Apex had a much better feel and consistency and straighter ball flight and spin numbers were great. Love the feel of the Apex and can’t wait to get them 😊
Current handicap 13.6,hopefully single figures in the 2022 season 🤞🏽

Awesome comparison Mike ! In May 2021 I was custom fit for 2019 version Titleist T 200s and I have to say they feel like butter if you hit them on the sweet spot BUT if you spray a little bit on the face you get a loud clunky noise which I’ve found out is because the hollow portion of the head is not filled with Epoxy or sound dampening material. This makes me want to compare them against the Mizuno JPX 921 forged.
2 reasons that’s making me stick to the T200’s is the Forgiveness, they are very forgiving and I don’t want to trade them in or sell them. If I trade them in I would have to shell out about $900 to get the Mizuno‘s. If I sell them maybe half that. Just not a priority now.

Love your reviews Michael...Both irons are great, but I think for me the Mizuno 921 Hot Metal would give me a bit more help getting to a zero handicap range.....I know that these are the Forged model, but I did not feel to much difference between the forged vs the cast...in Mizuno....Also I am not much of a fan for 1/2 lofts....Can't see why these companies do it.....

I came from PXG XCor2's to Mizuno 921 Forged (found them new on ebay). The PXG's (delofted) served me well, but my swing out grew them. I must say that the Mizuno's are so responsive, my swing is actually improving due to the feedback.

Played Callaway diablo (their first foray into forged bodies) with carpenter steel (not forged) faces - those were the precurosors to the Apex line which I moved into and then from original Apex to Apex CF16. Skipped the CF19s and got fit into the 921 forged. Both sets Apex line and JPX are great - you can't go wrong with either BUT I far prefer the sound, looks and options with the 921s. I do think they feel better but center strikes on both will always feel good. Looking at the comments, JPX seem to dominate and I definitely agree having to pick between the two.

I was playing the Apex 21 DCB's but had a horrible experience with them (rusted after 2 rounds of 9 holes) and Callaway customer support was blaming me for cleaning the clubs with water so I got rid of them and for a fitting experience at a Mizuno in the Netherlands and the result is I am now playing with the 921 Forged and they feel awesome when struck well. Also, my dispersion is a lot tighter compared to the Apex 21 DCB's. Great video on comparing these two as my mate plays the Apex 21 from Callaway.

i got these apex 21 this year in nippon NS Pro 120 gram stiff shafts... have played a few months with em and love em.. the consistency and the forgivness on of centre strikes i amazing... longer irons from 7 to 5 launch in a nice high window which helps stop quicker.
played jpx 900 forged a while back 8 to pw were nice but struggled with 5-7 iron.. came out very low and jpx900 were not as forgiving and i wasnt as consistent with them as compared to the apex21 ... and as for feel jpx series is not as good feeling as the MP series in mizuno . jpx might feel slightly better that apex21 but not much in it.

The big difference in std deviation among spin w/Mizuno could be your ball striking but I’ve found similar results in testing these. I’m a former blade player, mostly Orlimar’s back when Lou was hand grinding custom sets in California for numerous touring pros. When I wore out last set after son Jesse took over the company I bought 1st set of Mizuno’s, MP32’s. Loved them, went through 2 sets. I finally tried some forged cavity backs 10-12 years ago, none were as playable as the the MP32. I finally gave in and bought Apex16’s. I enjoyed some solid golf with them. I however had same issues you were having w/JPX921, inconsistent ball flight on slightest of mishits. Balls ballooning, inconsistent distances on mid-long irons and particularly difficult consistency in rough or less than ideal lies. I honestly don’t know how touring pros with brilliantly consistent ball striking can play cavity backs on tour. My guess is highly modified sole grinds but who knows. I went this Spring to test irons, tested many forged cb’s and even a few blades, both the new hollow core and traditional forging. Finally ended up w/set of Muira’s; combo 201 4-6, 501 7-PW. Played my best golf in nearly a decade, pretty impressive given my 62 year old body. My gir stats are improved nearly 20%. The 201’s feel softer and slightly more consistent than the Apex 16’s, my scoring however is primarily due to improved consistency and control w/501’s. I’m more confident on my approaches knowing the exact yardages I can hit consistently w/o risk of flyer or ballooned shot out of less than perfect lie.
It looks like the Apex 21 delivered those results for you, JPX clearly did not. Can’t score consistently unless you know the exact distance and spin you will get from a solid struck 7-iron.

Switched from Apex DCBs to JPX 921 Forged. Apex DCBs had stronger lofts, 10-15yds longer distances and more towering trajectory, draw bias offset. Great clubs, very forgiving, but less workable. The JPX 921 Forged are more workable, more accurate and better distance control if you have a confident swing. They also look better IMO.

There is clearly a subset of players who's higher handicaps are due more to their short game, pitching, chipping and especially putting that drive their hdcp numbers to the high side. I know a few that are very good iron and driver players but fall apart when they get inside 150 yards. Mizuno JPX 921Forged. I have a set of MP 225 on order but I would choose Mizuno over Callaway all day long with respect to irons.
