- Mizuno JPX921 JPX919 JPX900 Forgiveness/Compare Testing is the aim of this video. I have created the first possible way to indicate the Forgiveness of an iron and potentially the improvement in design as the models are refined.

Christian, as the Mizuno expert, how would you compare JPX 921 HM against MP20 HMB? Recently fitted for HMB with C Taper Lite shaft. Love them but can’t help but think I should’ve waited a few weeks. 12 handicap.
@@kev12558 Hey! When you compare the Hot Metals to the HMB, the Hot Metals will definitely be larger heads (heel to toe) as well as wider soles and thicker toplines. As a 12, I would likely expect you to lean towards the HMBs, but if you are looking for a bit more distance and forgiveness, take a look at the Hot Metal Pros.
Christian Voshall Hi again. Custom fitted for HMB with C Taper lite reg. When hit sweet they feel like you’ve hit a ball of cotton wool. Absolutely stunning. They compliment my ST200 driver, fairway & hybrid. Now tempted to pull the trigger on the M-Craft 3! I have to compliment the service from Silvermere Golf Club, and Mizuno. Europe. First class.

Your sweet spot forgiveness comparison diagram between the different models was fascinating. Validates my decision to order a set of the JPX921 HM irons yesterday. Got custom fit, and the ball flight was just staggering. High and straight even off mishits. Couldn't get it to slice.

Amazing info ... mapping the %’s of forgiveness across the face is brilliant. What a painstaking effort ! That was cool.. Would love to see this with the JPX Forged, 900, 919 and 921. I played the 900 Forged for one full season in 2017. I felt them too hard with Boron but the forgiveness was pretty good. Plan on getting custom fit next spring and the JPX 921 Forged will be my # 1 choice, I’ll be comparing them to the Ping i210 (ive mentioned this here about a week ago)..

Great video! So informative, and well presented, playing the 900 HM's and was thinking of trying the 921's in HM or HM Pro then thought no probably not, at my level, now you have me thinking again!
Excellent video. I ordered the 921’s and they should be here by the end of the week.(3 weeks). I played the 900’s for about 6 months, they were nice but I insisted on going into the project x LZ shaft to increase swing speed. I ended up missing more greens not by much but noticeable. So i traded out if the 900’s and back into the steelheads and back to a steel shaft. My new 921’s will have the same shaft KBS tour 90. I just love it’s higher flight

Nice stats Jay...! Mygolfspy also noted how forgiving the long irons are...only the long irons though. Middle and short irons not so great. It was their report on game improvement irons, out a few weeks ago. They also do great data analyses!!

Hi, I would say though that even though getting your purchase custom fitted may not be possible. Depending on where you are looking to buy them (say Ebay with plenty of different specs on sale) I would invest in a Custom Fitting session to understand what specification you should be to aid your buying choice. If you know what shaft, lie and length for example then it will make your new purchase even though 2nd hand a much better performing option than just anything bought randomly.

Great content Jay . I've been a Mp30 player for 15 years and a good ball striker. Unfortunately with age my ball striking is leaving me slowly and need a upgrade. The Mp20 Hmb was a bit large for my eye so I'm definitely going to consider the 921 range Forged and Hot metal pro. Anxious to hit them .......

I think the chromoly does feel soft compared to a normal cast head... For me it's ego why better players don't put hot metal long irons in the bag.
For me I need the help these days but even better players especially if you have an imperfect lie could benefit from the way they launch.
Of course you need to look at your gapping.
It's possible you may need 2 six irons and a 5 iron to replace your forged 4+5 irons.
By that i mean you might have your forged 6 and then a hot metal 6 replacing your forged 5 and then hot metal 5 replacing your forged 4 because they are definitely half a club (at least) longer.
Had to come back to say that's a great effort to measure loss of distance on strike (for me screenshot it works better) 👍

The 921 HM Pro do look especially nice and in my view blend the best looks with maximum forgiveness. I can see many people having a full set of these for a long time to come.

Hi Harlan, thanks for the kind feedback. If we are talking about the forgiveness charts at the end of the video then actually it has already been done in a way. The good thing about having done them is that the % given isn't one that is relative to the compared club, its a standalone number.
Thus (with the exception of the Tour as there isn't much call for the content) with a little bit of messing about (basically looking at each individual video) you can collect the data for the HM, HM Pro and Forged to see the relevant data between them. If you wanted to watch the full videos for in depth reviews detailed info on looks and feel etc then that is also an option 👍

@@AskGolfNut Yes sir, I came across your other videos already. Your work really illustrates how Mizuno has incrementally improved this iron in the 921. I was quite amazed at how the 921 was one degree stronger than the 919, yet the 921 produced better numbers on launch angle, peak height & descent angle. I thought the OEMs were giving us marketing speak when it came to stronger lofts, yet similar (BETTER in the case of Mizuno) ball flight but your testing proves that at least Mizuno has successfully accomplished this. I think this alone speaks volumes. I just wish I had better clubfitting options in my area to dial in the shaft...
Please do this with the 921 line. So torn between the Tour and Forged...

Hi Jay - fantastic review here and love the analysis you always give - is great stuff and thank you for the great content you give. I've just got one question about slight confusion to do with lofts of the clubs you're reviewing here. In the vid you say the 6 iron loft of the 900 HM is 27, the 919 HM is 30 and the 921 HM is 29 and all the data produced is relevant and relative to those lofts. But, all the 6 iron loft specs I can find say that yes the 900 HM is 27, but that the 919 HM 26 and the 921 HM is 25 so basically getting one degree stronger on each newer model of the club. Just looking for any clarity on it if you've got any as was half way through enjoying all the data and then started scratching my head a bit.... :)) - any. ideas....? Cheers
Hi Al, by memory (this video is some time old) that the 900 HM was a 6 iron and the others were 7 irons so the loft change was weaker than the 900 even though they have got slightly stronger as the models progressed. But the lofts were in line with the static differences so all is well with any conclusions 👍

Why not older models tested. Seriously can't be many 919's being swapped for 921's. Looking to upgrade my 800's over the winter. Only concern is will extra yardage mean changing wedges and hybrids.
I have the 800 HD which came out after the 800 about the same time as the 825. I compared my HD's to the 825,850 ,EZ and the 900. For me the HD's out performed these clubs both in distance and forgiveness.(12 HC) - Haven't tried the 919 or 921. So before you "upgrade" , test them thoroughly against your current 800.
Very nice video! However, have your verified the loft of all clubs? From your data, I would intend to think that the HM900 has the strongest loft, unless your swing was de-lofting the HM900 more than the others. From the specs, the HM900 shall have the weakest loft of the three.
Hi Jian, sorry I must haven't of made it clear in the video, for that I apologise. The HM900 was a 6 iron with the others being 7 iron but you can see loft adjusted the progression in the technology 👍

Forged video is being edited as we speak and the HM Pro will follow after. All the videos of the compares have evolved over 2 to 3 weeks growing from an original compare to full on forgiveness data. Took me a while to get a usable formula to ensure clarity and integrity of data, but I think I've got a useful result.

i have been playing the JPX 900 Hot Metal for a couple of years. my game has improvements as i used to be an 11/12 index and now i am down to a 7 index. should i consider a players club i.e. hot metal pro or forged for my next set? when/how do i know.
Related question on the spin numbers of the three models of 921 pitching wedges, replacing ez forged gap and pitching wedges. I have seen data that 921 HM or HM PRO have low spin on these wedges. Should I go to forged model?
I personally haven't seen much difference between both, marginal if any. But as always only take what's seen on TH-cam etc as a guide, nothing replaces giving them all a fair try 👍

Every model is -1* loft and +.25” shaft length... 🤔
