Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 After The Buzz

  • I think you can tell a lot about Samsung’s target for the Galaxy Z Flip with their marketing. Their ads are full of young people, mostly women, and it’s all about “joining the flip side” as if this was a reference to the Dark Side. Yes, that exact same demographic that is completely owned by the iPhone, was treated to a lot of K-Pop Celebrities and Sidney Sweeney at Galaxy Unpacked for a reason. The problem is that I wish I could tell you that most people in Diego’s age are buying iPhones for their looks or for some party trick. The reality is that even if Samsung products also fall within the Status Symbol category, the way you’re seen is also half the story.

@superiortoall22 nah I'm talking about the tech review sites. The fold and flip series hasn't been officially announced yet and across the board, it's a negative article or opinion about how the design needs a refresh. They need to say the same about iPhone 16

@@christopherkinslow5432 well the big thing is people complaining about form factor, not just appearances. iPhone works just fine with it's form factor, people may complain it looks the same but it doesn't take awake from usability. Majority of Fold and Flip users dislike the form factors of Samsung phones, so there needs to be a change in design not for design sake but for efficient use.

Well, Jaime, you are underusing the external display. About 50% of the things I use the z flip I do on that external display. The battery endures a lot more because of this, too. I use the external display foi spotify, cronometring exames (I am a Doctor) and, the best part: USE THE EXTERNAL DISPLAY AS A PREVIEW FOR PHOTOS TO SOMEONE. I turn the display to the person see herself and the people go crazy about it. I love my z flip 5.

I was a big phone guy with the S10+ and Note 20 Ultra then the Fold 3. But after switching to the Flip 5, with the attempt to reduce screen time. I can say this is my favorite phone I’ve had and I use it closed 80% of the time. Yes, I use IG and TH-cam on the tiny screen to watch videos and reels and also reply to messages and emails. As for the cameras, I always have my Leica M10P or M2 with me so I just use the phone for quick snaps and videos to share with friends. Yes, I use the camera closed for selfies haha. I want to switch to the Fold 6 purely for the squared design and narrow screen but I think I’ll stick with my Flip 5 for it’s size and usability. Maybe I’m in the minority but I love this thing!

I've had my Z Fiip 5 since last November. I love it and have zero complaints. So much better than the 4 was. Battery life is great, screen is great, no signs of wear and tear, lines. or cracks anywhere.
I dont think I can ever go bacck to the candybar form factor.
Funny, despite your critisism, I'm fine with the cameras. It takes pictures and good enough ones I dont have to do retakes. Enough for me.

So you buy the Z Flip 5 but don't take the time to install Good Lock, which allows you to use more apps on the cover screen Lazy on your part. I have both the Z Flip 5 and the S24. The cameras are better on the S24, but the Z Flip is equal to or better in all other ways. I use the outer display about 70% of the time, but I installed Good Lock, which greatly improves the experience. I find the display better than the S24. My wishlist includes a telephoto lens and more native apps on the cover display.

I recently left Apple after 10 years and picked up a z flip 5. I don't see myself going back anytime soon. I love the customization, the footprint in my pocket, how much more fun Android is as a operating system. I think for somebody who just wants a little innovation and something different the z flip is perfect. I've also been really trying to disconnect from my technology a little bit more as I get older and I find having the smaller cover screen for quick things like notifications and changing my songs makes that much easier. I also like not having an Apple watch anymore. Had one of those on my wrist since they came out originally and I'm just ready for a less connected phase of my life.

Like Jamie I bought a Z Flip 5 at launch. It's a great phone for me overall, even the cameras (b/c I don't have the latest flagships at hand to compare it with). I the Jamie really should have added Good Lock. I use timers, radio or podcast apps, Google Fit, Tasks, and Keep on the small display when I don't want to be drawn into the phone. Physically it's super easy to carry or fit in pockets.

I got this phone when it came out because it had some really good trade in for my s20. I figured I'd try it and then likely upgrade when the next pixel or Samsung regular phone came out.... but i ended up really liking the form factor. i do agree with everything in this video, and there was a time i was chasing the improvements (mostly camera because they were so bad for so long) but now i think pretty good is good enough. The few things i wish were better are the screen nits which still are barely good enough for sunny days outside, dex support, and some useful reason to actually use the cover screen beyond just the always on display.

I will say when working wireless; majority of the flip sales were for women, but I also sold more folds to women believe it or not. Guys tended to stick the Ultra or a cheap android. Then you had the women iPhone majority too. Majority of the flip sales were to nurses and lawyers. I think cause it is smaller so fits in their scrubs or jacket pockets better.

    My experience;
The slightest bit of debris on the screen when you close it will put small indentations in it.
The screen protector is too glossy.
The screen is too fragile, I had the Samsung case on it and I dropped it 3 times with the phone closed ,it survived. Dropped it once with the phone open and the screen cracked.
To protect the phone properly you need a case that covers the hinge but then it gets quite chunky when folded.
And I started to get tired of having to unfold it.
The finger print reader on the side button was to hit and miss .

i also had an s20 and i don't really find this fingerprint reader worse. the biggest issue i have with the fingerprint reader is because of the flip form factor, you will likely unlock the phone with multiple hands or directions and Samsung has a limitation on the amount of fingerprints you can use. You pretty much have to program each finger in both directions but have to be selective on the fingers you're going to use.
