Folding phones generally having lesser cameras than the brand’s normal flagship phone for a much higher price is what has kept me from trying them in the first place. I know there are cost and hardware constraints to putting big sensors in folding phones, but I’d rather get the better bang for my buck with the cameras
Buy a real camera. A phone camera will never be better than a real camera regardless of the post processing BS they layer on. If you don't care enough to buy a real camera, then a phone camera is clearly good enough for you.
@@nickthaskater lmfao. I'm a photographer. I already have multiple "real cameras," so get off your high horse. only weirdos want to carry their heavy and bulky $6,000 full-frame camera everywhere. don't get me wrong, I love my Alpha 9, but I'm not taking that to dinner. the best camera is the one you have with you; if you don't understand that, then you're probably a bad photographer.
@@BradLR where did I say carry a bulky full frame camera? Carry a GR3. If you're a photographer then you'd also know you can take a good photo with virtually any camera. The Fold 5 cameras shouldn't get in your way. If they do, you shouldn't call yourself a photographer.
@@nickthaskater limiting my zoom to only 3x with a lower-quality sensor, fewer megapixels, and lower-quality glass compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a valid reason for wanting better cameras at 2x price. the optics are simply inferior compared to the flagship Ultra series. and yes, I could shoot in RAW and get exactly the photo I want, but sometimes you just want a quick, good-quality snap of pets or family or something interesting. getting a smaller standalone camera would give me better optics and a sensor, but if I'm shooting on that, I'll want to shoot in RAW and edit the photos. it's simply a larger time commitment, not to mention the reason I bought a Fold is to reduce the amount of stuff I carry on a daily basis. I simply don't want to carry more things when I'm going out to drink, on a date, riding my bike, etc. it's just not practical. if you think it is, you're weird. as I said, get off your high horse.
Using Fold 5 close to over a year now and cant think of going back to any other foldables or traditional phones. The UI is just far superior when it comes to Samsung. And for folks that complain about the camera, the camera here is plenty good, good enough for your usual day to day social media use. It is in no way a deal breaker, however yes the price is but that is similar for all foldable more or less.
Samsung Fold is dead to me. I stopped upgrading since Fold4. There's really no change or improvement in the camera department. Samsung failed to deliver and no longer give customer the upgrade they wanted. No camera improvement. No charging and battery improvement. No screen improvement. Its now a waste of money to upgrade. Other folding brands has already surpassed Samsung 5th generation folding devices. Haha. Just my opinion.
I agree they are getting LIKE apple, if they don't improve battery and camera on the fold 6 I'll be getting the xiaomi mix fold 4 which will blow the doors of most. Bigger battery fast charge better cameras it has way more
Why push for camera improvements on a book style foldable device? They serve a different purpose than that of traditional smartphones. If cameras are that important than get a smartphone with a good camera. If anything, we should be de- emphasizing cameras as they take up valuable space in the phone and emphasizing features sets that'll make the FOLDABLE experience better. Larger batteries, thinner profile, durability, stylus that's integrated into the chasis. This dumb obsession with camera quality is a holdover from traditional smartphones that's unnecessary. It's limiting in that it's counter intuitive to nailing the fundamentals of this product categories first. Hell, we're still debating over what screen ratios should be the standard with these devices. I say they should have two decent cameras, and the rest of the aforementioned upgrades to make a truly great successor to the fold
Still no regret getting the phone. I actually appreciate the narrow aspect of the phone. It made one hand use fairly easy. And if I need to do anything substantial, I would open up the phone. Most of the time I just use the front screen for things like social media and Messaging. The brighter screen is very good upgrade from my fold 2. The software is reliable. Still a very good phone.
Fold 5 absolutely amazing. Durable, great battery, slim s pen. The only weak point is the camera which is still not too bad. There is room for improvement in terms of camera thickness, battery and weight like any other device in the market. And not that they will release the new one, it's a chance to purchase the fold 5 at a very convenient price.
I sooo wanted to love my Z Fold but the camera, yes, the camera, didn’t cut it for me. It single handedly got me back into reading because it was perfect with the kindle app and I loved the multitasking. I miss my fold but I’m a sucker for a good camera.
The camera is absolutely fine. There's literally nothing you'd use it for that it can't sufficiently cover compared to others save for extreme telephoto. If you need a better camera, you should be using a real camera.
You know what, more people should have this point of view. I am a Fold3 user who just had to fork out a tidy sum of money to replace the flex ribbon cables in my device out of warranty. In all things, the cost was not as bad a having to replace the screen or some other equally major (and costly) thing, but it made me realise that that even upgrading to the Fold6 may not be in my interest. So what about the larger front screen, pen usability, new screen design language and all the so called 'improvements' when the sum I forked out for the Fold3 itself i dont think has given me significant returns on my investment. I love my fold device as it is unlike any other android I have had - slab/bar or tablets alike, but such iterative step-ups the way Samsung is doing is not for me.
Still rocking my fold 5 since launch day. I'd say, the front screen has its pro and cons. Yet, it's not a deal breaker for me. However, since I was coming from Z flip 4, I really wish it's a bit lighter. Because fold 5's body weight, man, it's hefty. But, still live with it and I hope it lasts. Plus, now, it received some of the AI features from the S24 lines, so it's updated software might entice you.
That same narrow outer display is so frustrating and is THE absolute deal breaker for me. I'm currently using the OnePlus Open and love it, outside of the monstrosity of a camera bump. It's awesome.
After spending $4000 with my Z folds 1&2, I'm still waiting for the Huawei mate x2 price to significantly drop to make a purchase. Until then, I will continue to enjoy my z folds and my z folds will continue to enjoy me.

I really wish us consumers had access to the Chinese foldables, but as it sits as a purchase for this year at 2000$, at the very least you want the absolute most up to date hardware you can get. Personally a camera isn't a make it or break it for me as I just use it as a point and shoot kinda thing. The pixel fold was very much a first gen device with lackluster everything outside of the external screen, and I'm a huge oneplus fan but not releasing a 2nd gen this year's kills the option for me since there's no up to date chipset. Which really only leaves one option the z fold 6.

What was thought of as a slight upgrade is major to those of us who came from the 3 and 4. The hinge upgrade is huge, and the although the camera isn't the newest, the way pictures are processed on the 5 are way better than they were on the 3 and 4. I am way happier with this one than the 3 and 4. The new SPen works better and is easier to store and use with the phone. Solid review though. Can't wait to see the 6!

I had the zfold5 and magic v2 head to head and decided on the zfold5. Software is better overall and especially security updates, the v2 was stuck on April's update after the zfold got June's. My s22+ got June's too so the v2 got sent back. Honestly if they are this slack on a new device what will they be like 2/3/4 years down the line
Man, I haven’t watched a Pocketnow video since Me Mobile left and it really had nothing to do with him in particular. Once phones plateaued, it just hasn’t been the same! It was more fun talking trash to Android fanboys 5+ years ago lol!
Dude, what are you talking about, dude? The main problem with the damn samsung folds are the narrow snikerer screen You can not type anything on that narrow screen. That's what they need to fix.Who cares about the hinge. Jaime, how did you get the split keyboard for the cover screen?! Is that the Samsung Keyboard?! That would be a life saver for me as I would prefer to stick with Samsung's.
Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard. The issue with that one is that it doesn't give you separate settings between the cover and main screens. So if you have it split in the main screen, it'll be split on the cover screen. That's what Jaime has selected.
Apple Walled Garden member (victim? Lol) here! I am waiting on the Z fold 6 to switch over to android. Keep in mind, as an iPhone user, I see this Samsung as an incredibly cool piece of engineering. Interestingly with Apple launching iOS 18, Apple is closer to an Android experience than ever before…which makes switching that much easier.
I got the Zfold 5 in December and I absolutely love it. The only thing it needs is a better ultra wide and a 3X periscope lens. It wouldn't hurt if they made it thinner either. But I'm not disappointed that they're sticking to only cosmetic changes this year because I'm planning on upgrading until the 7 or maybe 8 anyway 🤷
Excellent review, objective and to the point. I have the OnePlus open but can't find a stylus for it and I do miss the S pen. QUESTION: Can you use the Honor magic V2 in the US with the Google Play store etc.
Foldable is a bit 2 spicey on the price tag for my hands to drop. I have the 7.2 mate 20x, and i want to try something like a single 5.8" duo screen. A bit shorter (less top heavy), a bit wider .... But there seems to be absolutly nothing in the space of the clone phone wars that deviated from the trend set in stone..
ZF5 is so noticeably better with battery life, but it isnt great. I dont care about camera quality very much, but the hump is annoying. The hump and the fact that it is so slippery (along with the ZF3 and ZF4), is the main reason you just need a case with this thing.
Honestly kinda floored that Samsung is seriously shipping the Fold 6 as the leaks are showing it to be. I think they're definitely resting on their laurels and need a wake up call so they can finally start to shake it up. Might go with the pixel or even Oneplus when they roll out their 2nd gen foldables at this point. Which is a shame cause I'm a fan of the Samsung's aesthetics but I'm sick of them putting in the bare minimum and asking for top dollar for it, meh.
I so much love my old galaxy fold 4, and still miss it until this day. But the fact that after 1 year of use, my fold 4 started having the cracking sound whenever I opened and closed the main display, and its wifi and cable functions suddenly stopped working had made me move away from foldable, at least for now 😢
I use my Beige Z Fold5 as my work phone and my Gray Z Fold5 is my Play Phone. I watch TH-cam play games & use it as my NERD ALERT: Marvel Unlimited Comic BOOK! The Beige Z Fold5 I Read Email, Run my channel & Banking, NEEDLESS TO SAY: I'M IN LOVE WITH THE Z FOLD5! I Can't wait to get the Z Fold6! It's SEXY AF with those Square Corners! YESSS! I could use just one! But WHY?????
Lol coincidentally i bought a 5 fold this morning. herr in Australia it's on sale and impossible to find. I had to drive 2 hours to go get one as it's sold out literally everywhere within a 100km radius of me. Because the 6 is comming out, the 5 is on sale for $1600 down from $2800, couldn't resist. Like the 5, the 6 won't sell at almost $3000 untill another year from now when it's half price. 6 is most definitely not worth double the price, neither is the 5 from next week when it goes back upto $2800. I HATE the front screen...HATE IT! love the inner screen and how it functions, but i think i'm gona sell it and go back to my s22 ultra. Took me 5 mins to write this due to the extreme difficulty of typing on the front screen.
And this why I stayed with my fold 4. 🙄 they look identical to each other. And for the average user if I upgrade I want to see a different phone in my hands. And the fold 6 looks like it's gonna be very very similar AGAIN
The honor v2 is my dream phone. Wish it was made by Samsung and had samsungs software. I just got my fold 5 a few months ago because though I wanted a fold for many years I wanted to wait tell they perfected it and ironed out the issues and I really do love it. The honor though is really something else.
I love Samsung phones, but until foldable screens become less susceptible to becoming damaged for no reason. Samsung needs to provide free screen replacements when they fail.

What is that phone he said the honor?
I have just upgraded to this because I found a super cheap deal with the 512gb storage capacity. I have no regrets!
Can somebody share me link for inner screen protector for zfold5
If they have rhe next Fold in the form form factor closer to the oneplus open, I'll be upgrading from a note 20 ultra
Oh they planned for it?
Fold 4 owner who skipped the 5 as a spec bump. I hope the 6 brings something new
Man, I haven’t watched a Pocketnow video since Me Mobile left and it really had nothing to do with him in particular. Once phones plateaued, it just hasn’t been the same! It was more fun talking trash to Android fanboys 5+ years ago lol!
The Fold 5 price lowered and is now "affordable"
Thanks for this review now I know whether to go for this or wait for the Fold 6
brilliant commentary!
Dude, what are you talking about, dude? The main problem with the damn samsung folds are the narrow snikerer screen You can not type anything on that narrow screen. That's what they need to fix.Who cares about the hinge. I own the z fold 3 And the reason I haven't updated is because The fold four and the fold five are the same. You don't feel the hinge.Cause the phone is in the case....
I have huge hands. Typing on the cover is fine. Use one hand.
@@nickthaskater totally disagree and add the stupid stock covers, needed to hold the pen, and it feels even thinner
@@Matt-ob3ek you're free to be wrong.
@@nickthaskater yes you are
@@Matt-ob3ek I'm totally free to be wrong, and maybe one day I will be. Not today, though 😊
Amazing phone
I miss my a fold 5. Only lasted a month before the inside screen bit the dust.
Seems like software is something Samsung has nailed down really well
Awesome
Glad to see you back Jaime. You make Pocket Now worth watching. 5th viewer and 5th comment
Nope you got nothing worth saying so Little girlie disqualified and we know you didn't watch
Just a baby desperately wanting attention
*_I plan to get this now that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is out. Finally, my desire to have the old Nokia 9210i Communicator will come to an end._*
How will *Fold 6* hold out against Vivio X Fold 3 Pro ❓️
📲 SLIM/ Lightest/ Bigger Display/100w charging/ Brightness 4500 nits/ 5700mAh 🔋 etc
What all we will loose or be miss for people switching from Samsung to Vivo Fold
wish Samsung gave us two fold sizes and I’d like one to be the oppo find n2 size 😅
I'd Like to Try the Honor But will it work in America? if so, Anyone suing it on Tmobile?
Apple Walled Garden member (victim? Lol) here! I am waiting on the Z fold 6 to switch over to android. Keep in mind, as an iPhone user, I see this Samsung as an incredibly cool piece of engineering. Interestingly with Apple launching iOS 18, Apple is closer to an Android experience than ever before…which makes switching that much easier.
Watching from a fold5
I got the Zfold 5 in December and I absolutely love it. The only thing it needs is a better ultra wide and a 3X periscope lens. It wouldn't hurt if they made it thinner either. But I'm not disappointed that they're sticking to only cosmetic changes this year because I'm planning on upgrading until the 7 or maybe 8 anyway 🤷
Nope cause they don't deserve better phones
You want bigger cameras but want a thinner phone. Not happening, unless you want an even bigger camera hump relative to body size.
@@nickthaskater the idea of a bigger camera bumb doesn't bother me at all! As long as they have good quality sensors
Excellent review, objective and to the point. I have the OnePlus open but can't find a stylus for it and I do miss the S pen. QUESTION: Can you use the Honor magic V2 in the US with the Google Play store etc.
Why it sucks
Foldable is a bit 2 spicey on the price tag for my hands to drop.
I have the 7.2 mate 20x, and i want to try something like a single 5.8" duo screen. A bit shorter (less top heavy), a bit wider ....
But there seems to be absolutly nothing in the space of the clone phone wars that deviated from the trend set in stone..
Jaime is awesome.
How come you not mention the Pixel Fold?
How come you no watch the whole video? 🤔🤣
@@Pocketnow lol😝 i skipped and got caught😅
The Korean cover called Bonnet covers bothsides
We said a refresh was needed after Zf3. Now it's zf6 and there is still no refresh 😂
*Canal Pionero*
I am selling mine for the Vivo!!
I so much love my old galaxy fold 4, and still miss it until this day. But the fact that after 1 year of use, my fold 4 started having the cracking sound whenever I opened and closed the main display, and its wifi and cable functions suddenly stopped working had made me move away from foldable, at least for now 😢
Yup and they are way overpriced and lack sooo much
After the buzz ; There was no buzz in the first place.
No buzz for foldable is good. It means it is stable. Otherwise any hardware flaw would have quickly generated negative buzz all over.
I'm having a blast with my z fold 5, fck outta here lol
👏👏👏
Becuase Z Flip 5 stole the show
Nah it means it sucks@@hisalil
That would be great if you can make what is in my fold 5 video :) I like the view of your Home Screen design :)
Nice
And this why I stayed with my fold 4. 🙄 they look identical to each other. And for the average user if I upgrade I want to see a different phone in my hands. And the fold 6 looks like it's gonna be very very similar AGAIN
Missed these After the Buzz episodes not gonna lie. Too bad Jaime never gotten other phone cause otherwise, we would have an episode every month.
😂😂
Thank you for revisiting this phone.
Samsung repair has been amazing as I have a a Samsung store a few minutes from me. For a foldable I need this.
Yup cause Fold sucks
The honor v2 is my dream phone. Wish it was made by Samsung and had samsungs software. I just got my fold 5 a few months ago because though I wanted a fold for many years I wanted to wait tell they perfected it and ironed out the issues and I really do love it. The honor though is really something else.
Don't be stupid
I think it's time for Samsung to bring back the headphone jack and SD card slot at this point.
Owning Magic v2, I can tell you that it's a great phone that has a crippled UI and a terrible camera
Ditched S24 Ultra for Fold 5 . No complaints and will never go back to a slab phone again
I love Samsung phones, but until foldable screens become less susceptible to becoming damaged for no reason. Samsung needs to provide free screen replacements when they fail.
Why would you want a cheap, poorly constructed vegan "leather" when the real deal is so much more durable, lasts much longer, ages superbly, and is biodegradable? Those cow hides would otherwise be thrown away.
