- Samsung's foldable strategy is proving to be a bit weird lately. Yes, we saw some major and welcomed changes with the Galaxy Z Flip5, but then the Z Fold5 didn't really change much. Watch my After The Buzz for more information on the latter. Thing is, while some leaked images did hint to the tables turning for the company's foldables this year, I think we have enough rumors to prove the opposite. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and after our extensive Deep Dive of the Galaxy Z Fold6, it's time to talk about the Z Flip6.

As someone already stated, no s- pen, no flip 6. My Note 10+ was so far ahead of it's time when it was released, it's very hard to beat.
I was very tempted by the S24 I actually pre-ordered the phone to get the "free" benefits. The benefits were exceptional, but doing a side by side comparison in the store there were no physical benefits and the camera and software benefits were not a big deal for me. I already have the "select to search" feature, not quite as easy to use as the S24, but the search results are the same. The real-time translate of a phone call was probably the most useful feature I could use, but i discovered I can use Google translate to do the same thing 😊
So, no S24, I cancelled my order. If I'm going to spend AU$2500 to $3000 for a new foldable phone I want an s-pen included, otherwise my Note 10+ will keep me going until it dies (of old age😊)
Are you concerned about the lack of security patches for the note 10 though?

That samsung ad is honestly how kids behave when they see the Z Flip. They love to play with it because of its design and features, but when they find out its a samsung, they back away from it like superman being confronted by kryptonite.

Jaime - good to have you back. I've had the Flip 4 & 5. I've been on a six-month upgrade schedule with them, trading the subsequent S phone. Loved the "pocketability" of each, but didn't like the 4's coverscreen and traded in the 5 because I got frustrated with the narrow aspect ratio (nor that of the Fold). Would really like something more akin to the S 24's aspect. Doesn't sound like that's happening this year, so I'll probably get the S 25 Ultra. Hopefully, Sammy will do better in 2025.
As a fold user, i dont think these updates are "luke warm"...... they're room temperature. I think my next phone's looking more like a vivo fold (or even a non-fold)

What do you think about the Honor Magic V3, Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 or Galaxy Fold 6? I'm leaning towards the Honor Magic V3. Are you familiar with either of these and if so which would you choose?

Gone through 2 folds (fold 2 and fold 4). In both cases either the screen went bust or hinge went bad. Holding on to S series until there’s a massive breakthrough in display and hinge tech.

The practicality of the flip's clamshell design is that it's smaller and easier to carry along with some niche half-folded software usability and outter screen camera functions. I think your info misses the point in some areas of the folding aspect.
Im a professional art illustrator and photographer. To dismiss the Flip as a gimmick is clichéd thinking gravitating to Samsungs marketing. Micro devices and cameras need to be experienced to be appreciated.
Yeah it’s not mainstream because for flip and Fold they do NOT have flagship camera. They are average at best.
Are the crease still obvious and apparent?
I needed the Fold 6 to be better...i dont want to have the Fold 4 for another year and get a horrible trade-in later...but then again I don't want to pay even $1000 just to have the 6 while I wait for the 7/8
I have had the Samsung note 10+ fantastic phone then the note 20ultra no real advantage just thicker since then I’ve had several I phones inc 15 pro the Samsung s 23 ultra s 24 ultra and yes a flip 3 and now flip 5 . Yes there are situations when the cameras on the other phones are better but in everyday life I’ve not really had cause for concern maybe it’s because if I go out to take photos as radical as it sounds I take a camera which will always give better photos that any phone . Where I use the phone cameras is those spontaneous photos you Arn’t prepared for ie: cycling along the beach front in shorts when a stunning sunset comes our of no where . Yes a s24 would have took a slightly better photo if only it hadn’t fallen out your pocket from being to big for shorts. If you want the best photos buy a camera . But someone once said the best camera there is is the one you have with you and the flip makes a lot of sense in those situations.
I have a Flip 4 but my next phone won't be a flip unless they add a telephoto lens.

@@The_Brimada it seems like it will. Supposedly the vapor chamber from the s series is being added, and heat dissipating was the concern. Also 12 gb ram variant. I think this will be the thing that brings it to flagship status. Honestly I’m tired of my giant S23 and not being able to reach stuff with one hand. I carry two phone and that’s already too much
Yea theres no Good Compitetor in the US. Samsung could keep on going in cruise control since Google and Oneplus is a minor threat. I guess my Fold 4 will be in my pocket til samsung switches gears and makes Z Fold Ultra.
What we all want to z flip series is a 4500mAh. The cameras are already good for me, who has a z flip 5, coming from a s22plus.

These foldable phones are not durable ... my Z Fold 4 broke for the second time and I got it to replace my working Note 10+ that I switched back to !
No more foldable phones for me for a very long time ... too bulky , heavy fragile and last less them a year before you have to bring it to the maintenance.
My Note 10+ still works like a tank ( no scratches and the battery last all day long !) and will hardcore use it until I switch my fixed Fold 4 for a Galaxy S25 Ultra and will keep the trustworthy Note as a backup phone once more.
Samsung needs to do something, they dropped like 30% in the foldable market over the last 2 years. It’s a mixture of other companies surpassing in design and capabilities and people not returning to foldables.

They have to improve battery life. In my opinion, that's the flips biggest downfall.

I disagree and find the Flip more functional in it's micro size. The slab can seriously get smaller and be used by a photographer and artist ( like me ) I never liked laptops. I liked the Note series and jumped to the Flip5 which does need a real camera upgrade. Hope the 7 gets it and Samsung keeps loading it.
The Flip 6 is getting a 50mp main camera. Big upgrade.
6:12 - 6:22 Incorrect statement. You don't get a Flip for the sake of getting more of a phone, you get a Flip for the sake of being unique and not a sheeple. Getting a Flip phone is a conscious decision, not a spec based one.
Been using Flip 5 since its launch, and never seen anyone else with a Flip except that one time I went to a high end restaurant.
Having a Flip is like like having a Kei Truck on America: you don't get a Kei Truck for the sake of productivity cause any other pickup on US can outmatch it. You grab it for its uniqueness.

Don't buy I went through two flip 5s within a two year time frame. From normal usage opening and closing these phones don't last.

Especially when it comes to the fold 6 the phrase complacency breeds failure rings true for Samsung, Chinese manufacturers have become the leaders in the foldable market due to innovation where a Samsung has become lazy.

If I could be convinced Samsung has fixed their problem with screen separation, I would be tempted to get the Flip 6. I first bought the Flip 3 and less than 12 months later the screen started to separate. I loved the phone but was disappointed by the screen, but I gave Samsung another chance and bought the Flip 4, but the same thing happened with screen separation. At that point I had given up and the next year bought the S-23 Ultra. I would love to try the Flip6, but I am gun-shy and don't want a third disappointment.

My Zfold5 would be perfect if it had s24/better cameras, I feel like my s21 ultra had better cameras, and I miss the 10x optical zoom. Would upgrade to Zfold6 now if the cameras improved and 10x (now 5x) zoom, if it had it

The cameras are the ONLY thing I didn't like about the razr+, otherwise I would have kept it, because everything else about it was heaven. I use the camera daily to take pictures of my client's walks and it was abysmal. Hoping the zflip 6 is better.
I enjoy my Z Flip 5. It is well made, performs well and is a great form factor. Yes, I wish it had a telephoto lens, but the cameras are still quite good. It needs more native cover screen apps (rather than Good Lock) and wish it had Dex. I have the S24 as well for business and I keep coming back to the Flip 5. I use the cover screen about 70% of the time.
I'm the opposite. I rarely use the cover screen. This phone has been very enjoyable. I will keep it until I get a sweetheart trade in deal.

Jaime with the same gripes...clearly these phones aren't for him and that's fine. Outside of it being a "party trick", I can't tell you how much I appreciate having a full-size screen with a tiny phone footprint in my pocket. I've had Z Flips from 3 to 5.... depending on the trade-in deals.... I may go 6 as well... 🤔 . I do wish the cameras were better tho, my only issue with them

The improvements I’d like to see
The crease…it’s got to be made less visible like Chinese flips.
The battery life…needs to be better, maybe with faster charging too
The cameras…again need to be better at this price point.
The hinge does not bother me and I don't care about the colors since I will be putting a case on it. I presently have the flip 4 are you saying I should wait till 2025?
No S Pen Silo then no Z Fold 6. I upgraded from Note 10 Plus to Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra so still good for some years to come.
Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst.
I still think annual release are needed as with cars, but no more dumb events anymore like unpacked when nothing is new 😂

To be honest flip and fold phones are just gimmicks. Imagine you buy overpriced phones with less than 1 year of reliability, and downgraded specs and no Samsung DeX in flips compared to the S series. Just not worth your money
