This might be a small thing for some but for those like me who wear polarized sunglasses, the Razr is a huge winner because it doesn't exhibit the weird rainbow effect that makes the Samsung almost unusable. That's a gamechanger for me!
This is one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched comparing these phones. The head-to-head comparisons of all the features were really thorough and I appreciate that immensely, especially the comparison of the cover screens. The Razr's cover screen functionality alone is probably enough to sell that one to me over the Flip 5, that sort of Baby Mode of the Flip 5 cover screen already made me feel borderline enraged haha, whereas being able to do virtually anything on the cover that you can inside, including adjusting your pulldown settings, sounds like exactly what I want. (Plus, I despise Samsung's internal ecosystem, and I'll take any excuse to stay far away from it.) Thanks for the great video. Very insightful.
Finally someone mentioned the real difference of usability between those two phones. I went to the motorola froma flip 3 exactly because I wanted more of that front screen and I barely need to open the phone now, which also results in less battery consumed. I compared the new motorola to my flip 3 for a couple of days(regarding the camera) and actually I prefered the results from motorola most of the time, except for sunsets and video. The flip 3 processed the sunsets beatifully, while the motorola's processing was really bad. BUT I kind of found a solution for this, too. Installed some latest gcam port and now it's rocking the photos, too.
It's almost like there is a benefit to producing a review based on genuine use and knowledge of a product as opposed to a spec sheet, four photos, a video, a benchmark, and a few hours of use like MKBHD.
Most of Motorola's issues with the camera are software related. There are many great 3rd party camera apps that processes the image better than Motorola's camera app. The sensor itself isn't bad, though. It's almost comparable to let's say, an iPhone 12. I feel like the camera quality through Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook look much better than taking a picture through the stock app. It's such a minor issue though, you would have to be very picky to notice any difference. To the average consumer, the camera will be more than adequate to do the job. Most apps will compress the image quality anyways, so having the better camera on the Z-Flip will still be kind of pointless.
@@Junispro31 I’m going to go to the ATT store and see if they will me download goodlock and trying. I’m a huuuuge moto fan. From the OG droid to the first 2 moto x phones. I want to like this. I’ve had an iPhone for the past 3 years. Miss Android and interesting fun phones.
@@sexyscientist none. I’m too far gone into the apple ecosystem at this point. Literally it would take 40-60 hours of effort to just get everything over from a data perspective not to mention having to adjust and then there is the fact that it would render most of the functions of my other devices worthless. It’s a damn shame.
Wow man, that disclaimer regarding the duration of experience with the phones and the relationship with the companies was fantastic. I really wish every reviewer did this at the end of the video. Thank you so much for being honest with your viewers. Very through review.
This is a great review. The phones are so different and similar at the same time. If Samsung include the "continue when close" feature I will love it! But I do love when it's closed it's the separation of using a whole when im trying to stay focused that i need. I wanted the razr for the nostalgic feel. I'll wait to see what the flip 6 is all about.
Currently a Z Flip 3 owner. I thought I wasn't going to like the 5, cause the only thing that's different is the outer screen, but when I held the model unit, I was sold. It feels so solid. But I have a 5 year phone rule now. So this phone will be with me for a few more years.
Time to break that rule! ;) Flip 5 is indeed awesome and Michael nailed it in his review. Samsung's trade in deals are awesome too. Which is something to consider when thinking over breaking that rule!! Ha! :)
Just dont drop that phone like i did my Flip 4, I litteraly only had my flip 4 for only 2weeks and dropped it in the house 1foot from the ground and now my phone only opens up half way. Im pissed 😠. This was my first flip phone since the old days. I dont know if I can trust to buy another even if its the 5
Excellent video sir. I'm at 6 full days with the Flip 5 and I'm pretty impressed. Camera is meh, but I'm working with it. I absolutely love the smallness factor when it's in my pocket, sitting on a table and in the truck. I don't have to keep smacking it when I change radio stations.
ordered a Flip 5 in the Black Friday sale, think that'll be really good for my use case. if I want to do real photography I'll just use a real camera and the photos are good enough for social media and sharing with friends; and I actually prefer Samsung's cover screen approach, hoping more friction to using apps compared to Moto will help addressing my phone addiction and building a healthier relationship with the thing instead of just continuing doomscrolling after closing the big screen
I have both and I regret getting the Flip, at least in its current condition. The app that lets you use most others on the cover screen is region locked and not available everywhere. There are no alternatives. I got to the point where I have to create a "Routine" just to be able to turn on my hotspot for my Navigation in the car on the cover screen. As you mentioned, even the swipe down mini menu is extremely limited. I think the RAZR wins as it comes ready and able from the box with no extra apps that may or may not be available needed.
This is the video I've been waiting for, thank you! Helped me decide to just get an S23 Ultra to replace my poor old Note 9. Maybe next year's model will be the flip phone I've been hoping for 😅
With the Fold 5 (and probably Flip 5 too) I feel Samsung foldables finally left the prototype phase. You can put it next to any S series phones and you won't really see the difference, no apparent HW limitations. The Fold 2 before worked for 2.5 years, and it's new owner is happy with it. But I feel lucky there and I was always a bit nervous that it can break. With the Fold 5, it feels like a regular phone that works through it's whole 4-5 years SW support. Even if there are strange HW omissions (like fast charging), Samsung is still the benchmark when it comes to foldables.
Because I was unable to get the original razr some decades ago this Razr will be my first moto clamshell. I was waiting for moto to give us a screen that covered the whole front and allowed more productivity. But honestly the biggest selling point for me is having that logo on my clamshell finally. My daily driver will remain to be my slab Google pixel 7 pro with the Razr coming out when I want to flex something nobody else has.
For someone that is intrigued by this style of foldable for the purpose of using my phone less (silly, I know), the flip cover screen sounds like a much better choice
I agree! I got the fold 3 for that reason and it helped a little. I think this would really help. For me, the full use front screen is useful enough to do most things, but still be mildly annoying enough to keep me from scrolling endlessly. All while still having "regular" phone when actually needed.
@@TheMrMobileI think for that reason the Flip 5 is even better, as you are able to do more "non entertainment" things on the front screen and thereby use the full phone less.
Razr+ is better since you can run any app in external screen, and the battery i had no problem with it, i'm able to use it for a day & half, even after some heavy use, it's so much better than Flip 5 which really struggles when used for long (it tends to overheats easily, and this is something i'm still shocked to this day, samsung haven't fixed this for years, what a shame for a big company name like Samsung) @@thisismyhandleyouknow
I wanted to try the flip factor again as an old flip head, bought the Razr 5G and now Razr+ in blue, beautiful phone and outer display functions are outstanding, only wish the U.S. release had included the same features as th Chinese version which has a open and closing sound tone, Tent Mode / Always on Display and supposedly rotating outer display, also that they also included a charger and matching protective outer case covers, I just ordered a Samsung Flip 5 also in blue, I know I will also like, but the Motorola Razr + to me has a more wow factor in design and outer display, I am not a heavy power user and my older Motorola 5G still works flawless and to my eyes still the sexiest feel and design appearance, Motorola brought me back to appreciate flip phones again.
It gets warm if you spend significant time streaming, live video calls, maps, games or other apps that drain a battery rapidly but so did my iPhone 11 Pro Max and current 13 Mini, this is not an issue for me, these are not big batteries, I will see how the Flip 5 is on heavy battery drain usage when it gets delivered but I will expect and accept the same result.
Aod on the small screen is my only complain for this phone, why'd they lock that away to China 😢 what does the tent mode do? At least we got the extra hardware here in Europe
Best comparrison video ive seeing. I have both. I'd easily go with the Moto. They only 2 slight advantages of the flip is the newer processor and the build quality. It does feel more sturdy. The screen crease is also much more noticeable on the flip. It's not a good look.
One benefit of the Razr is the Moto Actions. You can shake to turn on the flashlight and walk around like you're using the impactical flashlights from TNG.
Yeah, I used to have a Moto G, Moto G4+ and the G5+ and I STILL miss that gesture My pixel 6 has the double tap the back to turn the flashlight on but it's not as good and it turns itself off sometimes inconveniently due to a time limitation
That sneaky LGR at the end.... Noice 😏 Like many have said, please keep up the excellent work Michael! I love your depth, your focus on details that matter (and those that don't but are still small quality of life things), and the excellent script writing and production. Forever my number 1 trusted source on reviews 😁
I've Had my Razr+ for about a week now and I'm loving it! Seen both reviews and comparison between the 2 phones before ultimately making my decision. The Razr+ won me over!
I got my razr+ about a week ago now too and I'm so happy with it. Another perk is very minimal bloat compared to Samsung that's full of it. . . Which was the main reason I returned my zflip.
To be fair, at this point they're the same price as a lot of flagship devices, the Razr and Flip are only 200 more than the galaxy s23, So it's honestly to a point where it isn't really a matter of price, especially if you're going through a service provider like at&t or Verizon.
Almost was going to replace my S23 for flip 5 , but suddenly I realise that I love my S23 much more than what I have thought. Usability is more important factor than style anyday. Razor + or 40 ultra what may be is more attractive than flip 5 no doubt. Let's see what OnePlus open brings to the table. I think I should wait a couple of years before this foldables get refinement and becomes capable to replace completely the slab phones S23 and S23 ultra currently I am in.
I actually did that! Had the flip 5 for about 48 hours and decided to keep my s23 and return the flip 5! I hated the form factor of the flip 5, and my s23 was a much better device overall!
Big agree. I've been rocking the Z Fold 3 for over a year now, and while I love it, if functionality is important, stick with your slab for now. Apps still aren't super well optimized for folding phones yet, though they are getting there. Also, unless you're a power user and/or working in a corporate environment, there really aren't a ton of use cases that justify the cost of the Fold. I use the big screen to watch TH-cam and show off pictures, occasionally for Google Sheets or Docs. If you're an average user, you're mostly paying for the novelty. Granted, if you're like me, the novelty is worth the cost lol.
@@bansheebacklash3730the galaxy folds imo are a joke of themselves and we will see that when the pixel fold makes samsung rethink things. We will either see a form change of the z fold line up or we will see a replacement line up soon because pixel did what samsung refused to do with the fold line.... Make the outer screen useable
@@Sos4R4y You've obviously never used a Fold in your life. It's amusing how the Internet brings out clowns who give opinions on something they know absolutely nothing about. By the way, the Pixel Fold has lousy app optimization when unfolded, with thick black screens surrounding the apps, unlike the Fold 5. Also it can break much more easily. Meanwhile, the Fold has always passed the Jerry Rig tests.
Hey Michael! Thank you so much for your time, energy, and money poured into this video for our entertaining purposes, i truly appreciate it. You always output quality content, i have seen lots of reviews on the Z Flip 5 and Motorola Razr, but yours is the one that is unique. - Thank you again for your unique review!
I've been an iphone 7/SE user forever! And iphones before that as well. I haven't had to make a real shopping decision for a cell phone in over a decade! And these flip phones are the first thing that have made me consider changing gears in a looong while. So it's stressful to wonder if I'll pick the wrong thing for my preferences. Thank you for the extremely thorough comparison that helped me answer a lot of questions about how these two phones differentiate themselves from each other.
Nice. This is what I wanted when flips came back. But I think I will wait for the Flip 6, which I know they have all ready by now, where all the kinks have been ironed out, and will be announced in 5-6 months time.
Great as always! I was debating both, but what edged me to the flip 5 was the trade in incentive, ultimately, it cost under 400 with the trade in of my S23 and the upgrade to 512 gb, sold it for me, if moto really wanted this phone in people's hands, they would have given you more than 200 for the S23, where samsung gave me 600, huge difference
No kidding. The trade-in values are insane. With my S22 as trade bait, I was able to get the Flip5 superior matte color with 512 gb AND the watch 6 classic, both for about $500!
I love Motorola's innovation and Experimentation in the mobile space since the Moto Mod and Moto X. Why can't we restore some of that energy and have more long term software support for the midrange. Been sad since they left Google
It'd be cool to see Moto innovate in the folding space more, Or even go fully crazy and try something akin to the LG wing for one of their flagship models one year. It's crazy that already a brand new, high tech sector of design is already feeling tired and same'y. Moto Mods were cool and while they ultimately didn't make the mark they wanted to, They did inspire innovation all round, especially with things like dual screen devices, battery standouts like the Note and Galaxy Ultra series, and even Motorola's own Stylo series. It feels weird then that when given another opportunity to go big, with at the least successful sales as one of the three biggest names in mobile, they'd play it so safe when they finally have another opportunity to be a proper stand out with some staying power. It just feels like we're in an age where while everyone is doing the exact same things, Moto, the reinventor of the flip phone, could make something as big and popular as the Razr was back when it released first.
There’s things about both phones I like but I chose the Flip 5 because I wanted the newer processor. The Moto’s higher refresh rate was very tempting tho
i choosed the Moto because for me even though its not the newest, its faster than the Flip 4 and when the screen is on you literally cant see the hinge
Excellent video as always. I'm starting to see flips and folds as a true consumer product now. Partly because of your videos and you essentially documenting the evolution of form factor. 👍
This was a great phone battle Mr. Mobile. If not for the sweet deal I got for the Pixel Fold, this would've been a tough call to see which flip phone I would get as an upgrade to my Z Flip 3. Based on the camera, that might have kept me in the Samsung ecosystem because I love to take photos and videos and Samsung had a good camera for a flip phone. But my Pixel Fold would crush those two flip phones in that department and I could not be happier about the decision I made going to the Pixel Fold. I would love to see you do a similar battle between the Pixel Fold and the Z Fold 5.
I've had all the flip phones, from the Z Flip 5G to the 3 and the 4, and then the Razr 5G and now the Razr+, and I skipped getting the Flip 5 for now. I think the Razr is just as nice as the Samsung, even if the software isn't as useful, but I love the coverscreen, and I've never had an issue with it calling someone or anything in my pocket, and my dad has the same Razr+ I do and neither has he 🤷 but definitely a close fight!
I went for my first foldable to be Razr + because 1. Nostalgia towards my V3 back in a day 2. 144Hz outside screen + 165Hz inside screen VS Samsungs 60Hz + 120Hz 3. Overall looks and smaller crease
Really love the Z Flip, I've had my Z Flip 4 for about a year now, and the Z Flip 5 looks like a warranted upgrade from it. However, until they put a better camera on it I think I'm gonna go S23 ultra next. They put a better camera on Z Flip phone though, and I might be a life-time subscriber to the Z Flip line.
Yes the Razr+ can't beat nor threaten the Z Flip5 by simply existing, but looking back few generations of Razr they have definitely improved a lot, especially in their hardware! Imagine if Motorola doesn't exist, Samsung wouldn't even bother to increase their cover display size!
The last part of your comment is what leads me to believe Samsung is a company that lacks creativity. They are probably the first to push out high tech but they are not good at packaging it. This is why their phone designs have always evolved around what Apple does and now with foldables they evolve around Motorola and soon with Google. The good thing is other companies are not following Samsung and are actually being creative and finding ways that they can improve without copying. While Samsung started the whole foldable thing they are not the ones who will make it evolve into a form that will be accepted and replace normal phones.
@@Marco-em2inmicro changes happen so that they have something else to improve for their next phone. They are already making a phone right after the new one has been released. With that said. The criticism they listen to are the people from 2 generations ago (z flip 5 is an improvement of z flip 3 while the z flip 4 is from z flip 2 hence why the people were confused when z flip 4 didn't have a better cover screen even when they have been requesting it a year ago and it only came to z flip 5). This formula rarely changes. With that said even without competition they will do the same in my opinion, because z flip series has been one of the flip phones that still is trying to hit mainstream market even when no other companies had to balls to even bother. Just look on their perspective. If you made the best phone you can ever make, then how do you one up the next year? You can't so become a disappointment. S22Ultra and S23Ultra is the best example.
Im glad Motorola is still making their RAZR and Google finally joined the US folding market. Samsung really needs to be pushed to innovate more. They have gotten very lazy over the past few years, even MKBHD said this
@@Marco-em2inNo Samsung didn't started the foldable thing. Royale was on the verge of invention but they heard that somehow Samsung was following the tail. So they hurriedly developed flexpai, but Samsung's was a better product though you can argue about the display, yet that the reason they're are given so much fame for that.
@@GauravMishra9200you are wrong. Samsung start teasing Fold before Flex Royale came out. Their RnD start since 2011. Royale just want to become the first company to sell its fold and not really want to sell it exectly.
Well Razr+ wins for me! I do like the power user style for the outer screen compared to kids mode Flip 5 does. And the most important deciding factor is the crease. I really cannot stand Samsung Flip "gutter" for how deep it is. Someone said you only feel it during 1st 5 minutes yet I've tried and tried but still can't deny the "slip" feeling my finger felt constantly during scrolling. Its a touch screen of course I'm gonna touch it, so it really bugging me during using Samsung flip phones.
I'm from the "when a phone was just a phone" generation, I'll be 70 next year. I currently own the Z-Flip 4, I will be trading it for the Razr+ very soon, I prefer the software of Moto over the Samsung version of Android.
One thing that gives me pause is when he said it's warmer than the F5. I guess that chip is really good. I am still leaning MR minus the screen for a cheaper price.
Dont be. It is a fantastic phone. The flip screen behavior he mentioned would drive me nuts, given how useful the full functioned front screen is on my Razr.
this channel convinced me to get a flip phone and I really thought I was going to go moto. the older z flips never appealed to me and I love moto's ui. but a combination of good trade ins, a very nice samsung exclusive yellow color, and the promise of more updates and better specs all won me over. it's a shame because I'm honestly not a fan of one UI at my first impression (ended up pretty quickly moving to nova launcher) and being part of the google and samsung ecosystem at the same time can feel like having divorced parents. but it was just all the little things that made me more confident I could trust the z flip especially as someone who wants to run with this phone for 3+ years.
Mr Mobile, I too have apps open when I take out of my pocket, think the screen is dull when outside, hate the 5w wireless charging and feel the hinge is clunky! But what a phone and as you say, if Samsung put the effort into the fold, I'd seriously consider changing. The real point for me is that the Razr is actually a modern Blackberry, a business and social phone all in one. Really enjoy your work man, stay mobile my friend 🤘
It's weird because I've had my Razr since launch and it's never done anything in my pocket. I did turn off the wake with movement on day 1 as I found it unbelievably obnoxious.
I have the wake in movement on and also didn't have such problems. Something else must be causing this. Aonly things I have happen in my pocket is accidentally skipping to the next song in Spotify or having the camera open. But I do have the flip twice to activate camera gesture on so that might explain the second thing
Erm..still firmly an Apple 🍏 girl here. But always interesting to see what’s currently happening out there in Androidsville. Thank you for posting vid - just love the Techo ones. ~ from Oxford, UK 🇬🇧
Great review Mike, i always enjoy your videos. I'm surprised you didnt talk much about the Samsung UI, that's the main reason I'm going with the Flip 5.
Used this video to help make the switch from an iPhone 13 Pro Max to the Razr+. Saw the Razr at Best buy and fell in love with it. Thanks to all the videos you've made in the Razr, I felt pretty comfortable in my choice. Thanks and keep it up!
Why is nobody talking about the crystal talk technology in the Motorola phone in these reviews which is always been so good it sounds like you're talking to somebody on a landline 👍👏👌👆
Got a release day razr+ and I've really enjoyed it - can relate to the "just a hint of a creak" when the screen is closed, but I really like the closer to stock Android experience than Samsung's customization. Been very pleased so far, coming from a Pixel 3A.
This review really added value to understanding of two foldables that no other review did. You can get to those without driving foldables for years instead of just weeks / months. Thanks
3:44 I like that you can literally see the difference in hinge quality as your sister(in-law) stuttered trying to open up the motorola as if she hit an invisible bump during the process.
because of this video i bought a Razr+ and no regrets! and yet I've been using Samsungs for over a decade. my only regret here is that I dont get a SIM card and a Pen on either choice here, wouldnt hurt! but it is what it is..., one feature that i like fromthe razr+ is that I can stream from the phone to a big screen.!!!
both are good and i personally have the razr. I was able to test the flip 5. I prefer the razr and here are the reasons why : - 120 Hz for the small outside display - more than 95% of the apps can be used on the small display - free protective case in the pack - is lighter and narrower - more Battery Life - when it's unfolded you can't see a crease - Moto controls and extra features…. what is better for some with the flip 5 would be that it is a bit thicker and therefore more robust in terms of the flip flexions. and that you can hold it under water for a few minutes...but who does that in everyday life? i love my razr and it can do everything i need and use all the apps on the small screen and no longer have to open the phone...that's why i recommend the motorola razr+ ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have the RAZR as well had 2020,2022,os updates are slow or non existent l..my ultra is a wonderful phone I just don't trust Motorola anymore when it comes to updates my flip 5 will turn up this week and the ultra will be up for sale...if you don't mind lackluster support for your RAZR like the previous models you'll be right mate..peace from Australia.
Great video as always! I chose the RAZR+ over the flip as it has a bigger internal display. For a 6.7 inch display id rather get a pixel, but having a 6.9 inch display available when I need it is really nice
the bigger screen it's a major go! It's nice to do most of what I need to on the outside display and open for that big 6.9 inch display. It's a bigger contrast between the two.
The script mesmerized me with this video. F*ck! Michael, you're a fricking legend. It looks like i watch a film crammed in 12 minutes and STILL. GET. THE. POINTERS.
I recently made the leap from the Pixel 7 Pro to the Razr +. Did it come with sacrifices in the camera...absolutely, but I don't regret it. The Razr is an awesome device. It's not going to sell anywhere near what the Flip 5 does, but it's there pushing Samsung to be better while being a great flip phone all on its own. That's a win for foldable fans. Now we need someone to honestly push Samsung to do something bold with the fold. The Pixel Fold most certainly isnt
I totally agree with you. However many reviewers say the Samsung has a better camara, better, this and better that I will still favour the Motorola. I think it's still the better phone.
I've been with Samsung for many years, but I think it's good to get a fresh experience now and again. I'll go with the Razr+ heading into 2024. More pros than cons over the Flip5 for me.
I got my Flip 5 on August 7th and I love it! I actually wanted the Razr+ but I was able to get a much better deal for the Flip 5 so that's what I got. The only way the Razr+ is better is the external display functionality, and that's marginal. I installed Good Lock so even that isn't a factor anymore. The Flip 5 is better in every other area and will get software updates for five years. The Flip 5 also feels to be more solid after holding both as I did. Battery life seems decent so far. It's not as good as my S23, but I still get through the day without a problem. I couldn't care less about DeX. I've never used it and probably never will. If for some reason I do need to use DeX, I still have my S23 to use for that. BTW, Motorola really hasn't been the Motorola we all know and love since Lenovo bought them and has been calling all the shots. Also, ANY phone at the price point of these two should have water resistance but only the Flip 5 does.
@@fernagiu The point I was making is that pretty much every device costing around $1000 has water resistance as a standard feature so the Razr+ should as well. If it was costing Mid Range prices or less and it doesn't have it, I would understand. However, that's not the case.
@@thullraven1 And what you have to understand also is that this is a foldable phone, not a normal one. Also, water resistance is not a feature of expensive phones. Samsung itself offers water resistance in some of its mid-range phones.
@@fernagiu Wow, OK, my point is a simple fact. Every high dollar phone, regardless of form factor has water resistance in 2023. It's a standard feature in high dollar phones. Yes, some mid rangers have it as well, but it's standard on high dollar phones that are around $1000.
@fernagiu Jokes to you, a TH-camr did a test with the Moto vs the Flip 5 and the moto suffered much worse with the dust test compared to the flip 5. After getting immersed in dust, the motor made an awful creaking sound while the flip 5 was absolutely fine. It survived upto 400000+ folds. The Moto broke at 124000+.
I ended up with the flip 5 for these exact reasons. While 8 was super excited about the razr+, I couldn't justify spending the same amount of money for a decidedly lesser phone.
4:05 you got to remember Good Lock is available in just a couple of countries, it's not world wide, so the vast majority of Flip 5 users will never be able to use all apps on the cover screen
When it comes to foldables I feel like specs aren't the point. The use case is more important. That's why the Pixel Fold appeals more to me than my previous Z Fold 2. When it comes to these two, the Razr actually seems better because of a better use case outside screen that lets you use the phone like normal instead of putting on a new skin/launcher. Actually that's what I hate with Samsung, their UI design feels crowded at times.
Dude the razer just has a regular phone experience with loads of bugs and 0 optimization on the outside screen while samsung actually built a separate experience for the outside screen to avoid that 😂😂 Example: 9:54
I really enjoy your videos, I have noticed that you love Samsung products. I like small phones, I have right now and apple mini 13 that works well but the screen sometimes is to small for my eyes. Also get sometime super hot and the battery is not lasting as before. Thinking in foldables lately but something that opens horizontally instead of vertically. What is the best phone of this kind?
@@propersod2390 A “separate experience” that is highly limited; that was the entire point of the comparison. Some people prefer one over the other. Power users like Mr. Mobile accept the bugs as the trade-off for being able to do more. Of course, in his case he also has the Fold. Example: 5:24
@bubbledoubletrouble What do you mean tho? Samsung allows you to run ANY APP on the outside screen with good lock, I would say it delivers more in terms of usability
I just prefer samsung flip 5 because of ONE UI (Good lock customization), 4 years os updates and 5 years of security(because I like to use my phones longer), the hinge, also it has ipx8 to give extra durability, new chipset and It looks more premium at lease for me.
Ummmm I came to see a simple comparison, and you gave me so much more! Lol, it was like a tech National Geo episode or listening to that guy thats like Bill Nye for the food network world. ... Commentary, that's it. You're gold. Do you have a podcast?
I was in a Tmobile store recently and both flips were almost side by side. I was stuck in the store for about 1.5 hours waiting with a buddy purchasing a new phone. So I played with both devices. In my opinion both phones were very very similar with few exceptions. One thing the Motorola phone did NOT have was Samsung bloatware!!!! I thought the Razr felt more sturdy.
What about the long-term reviews? The early Samsung screens cracking was pretty damning, though after a couple years of heavy use my Razr 5G is also starting to develop a nick in the inner screen that I worry will become a crack. If that happens, which company can offer the better durability in their modern iterations?
No one seems to talk about the screen reflectivity. The screen protector on most foldables is very reflective. My Z Fold 4 is very reflective. Both of these flips look very reflective. The Pixel Fold is the only phone where people have mentioned the reflection. My Find N2 Flip, however, seems to have some sort of coating on the screen protector. It is hands down the least reflective. It makes a big difference. Another good video though. Always look forward to your take on things. :)
For these foldable comparisons, I'd appreciate overheating test as well. One of my most common use case for Flip is to use it for video calls in work and outside. After about an hour of video call (regardless of app, regardless if only on cover screen or inside), Samsung Flip closes all apps, including the video call app. Gets worse if it's charging at the same time. You mention Razr+ runs hotter but does it behave the same once it reaches critical temperature? Or at very least gives you a warning because Samsung does it without warning. Also, a negative for me was that if I want to use outside screen only for a call, once you open it past 90*, it switches to inside screen. Sure, that is intentional but I wish it had option to use outside screen even when unfolded. Thanks for the video, seems like my choice was the right one even though Razr+ is more attractive.
I'm on the Razr plus, and I can answer this one. The upper portion with the cover screen does get hot faster than I'd like, but, unlike what I've seen with a lot of the flips, it reaches a top-out point and idles there, I've never had it suddenly close out stuff, or even get too laggy/slow at max heat. The worst you'll notice is moving from those calls and full temperatures over to scrolling a page or something, I've noticed that it becomes a bit laggy for a few minutes so scrolling feels like it's about to crash. That said apps are rock solid and never actually close out, even at full load and max temps.
I have the razr, it does not heat over a 1 hour of call & during my one month use, i only had it heat a bit 2 times, & the heat wasn't that high, honestly samsung biggest weak point & problem is that it overheats easily, what a shame that after all those years, they still haven't solved this problem, especially with a company with a big name like samsung, it's no wonder they're declining
Let's not forget it was Motorola who was the first on cell phones that started the whole cell phone industry / Everyone else just copied. I still greatly respect Motorola, and shall wait till they out do all the competition.
the semiotic analysis of this comparison is so good entertaining and educative at the same time!!! haven't seen this in a while in other youtubers vidss
I went with the Razr and couldn't be happier with it. I messed around with the Samsung and you sum it up best with the kid mode on the front screen. Either way you get some solid tech.
I thought I was going insane seeing all the videos about the flip 5 that didnt make any real comparisons to the Moto while acting like the big screen on the flip was revolutionary, so thank you for proving I'm not insane.
The fact that you can do so much on a small screen on a Motorola and it has 144 Hertz screen compared to 60 on a Samsung it wins big time. I don't want the second screen to be a widget screen like on Samsung. I wanted to be a battery saving mode where I can use the phone just like I would with the main screen.
okay... Micheal I have a confession 😂 you got me into flip phones in the first place and I bought a razor 5g and loved it but recently I've been wanting to get another foldable from my lg wing, and as much as I like the RAZR+ better... 😢 I have to do something I swore I would never do... buy a zflip cause it's free with trade in but also the razor is on a great deal! so idk.
I think I'm going to get the Razr+ as well. Motorola has cut the $ on both models on their website. And with a trade in, up to $200, it knocks the $ down considerably.
@@mpound97 I just pulled the trigger on the Razr plus 5 mins ago. Bought it direct from motorola for 699, rather than tmobile for 999. My current s10+ has a crack so neither would take it for trade in. Samsung offers a trade-in for cracked screens ($200) vs $500. Im pretty pumped. i havent been this torn on a purchase decision for EVER.
Samsung wins here. Razr plus durability is already in question from some users… to support this we already see touch and performance issues here… Flip 5 I feel is more sturdy.
This might be a small thing for some but for those like me who wear polarized sunglasses, the Razr is a huge winner because it doesn't exhibit the weird rainbow effect that makes the Samsung almost unusable. That's a gamechanger for me!
Wow nice
cant really go wrong with this two folding phones. pick whatever suits you the best
@@rayrayrunhe literally gave you a hyperspecific and useful peice of info thst would let you know that that's not necessarily the case

Great point here.
@@Ozzymandius1don't buy a Motorola because it is a Chinese company.

I want the Motorola cover screen capabilities on the Flip. Now that's a perfect flip phone imo.
I bet it comes next year,

Time to break that rule! ;)
Flip 5 is indeed awesome and Michael nailed it in his review.
Do you know which regions don't have that app?
I just got the Razr, so happy i didn't go for Samsung

Motorola Razr (non-Plus) or Flip 4 would be even better, due to their more limited cover screens.
@@TheMrMobile and non-plus's better battery life
Does it get warm as he said? I hate phones that get hot while I watch TH-cam.
You can set up to double tap the power button on the flip to turn on flashlight
Yeah, I used to have a Moto G, Moto G4+ and the G5+ and I STILL miss that gesture
My pixel 6 has the double tap the back to turn the flashlight on but it's not as good and it turns itself off sometimes inconveniently due to a time limitation
Also the double turn gesture for opening the camera, great stuff and has actually been a reason I've wanted a Motorola phone for years
Still not really practical, i prefer the Moto since that feature came by default, Moto is far better in terms of daily usability@@Sos4R4y
I still keep an old motorola phone nearby just for the flashlight gesture lol

I've Had my Razr+ for about a week now and I'm loving it! Seen both reviews and comparison between the 2 phones before ultimately making my decision. The Razr+ won me over!
I got my razr+ about a week ago now too and I'm so happy with it. Another perk is very minimal bloat compared to Samsung that's full of it. . . Which was the main reason I returned my zflip.
Sounds like if you put these two together we would have a really good effort. Maybe next year they'll improve enough to be worth the money.
To be fair, at this point they're the same price as a lot of flagship devices, the Razr and Flip are only 200 more than the galaxy s23, So it's honestly to a point where it isn't really a matter of price, especially if you're going through a service provider like at&t or Verizon.
@@carelesslygenericbut are the flip phones as durable as regular phones? That should also be considered in the price
I think flip phones are fine for people that don't use their phones much, or if you plan to use it as a secondary phone.
By the way, the Pixel Fold has lousy app optimization when unfolded, with thick black screens surrounding the apps, unlike the Fold 5.
Also it can break much more easily. Meanwhile, the Fold has always passed the Jerry Rig tests.

Glad to see you doing a comparison, thanks Michael
Great as always! I was debating both, but what edged me to the flip 5 was the trade in incentive, ultimately, it cost under 400 with the trade in of my S23 and the upgrade to 512 gb, sold it for me, if moto really wanted this phone in people's hands, they would have given you more than 200 for the S23, where samsung gave me 600, huge difference
No kidding. The trade-in values are insane. With my S22 as trade bait, I was able to get the Flip5 superior matte color with 512 gb AND the watch 6 classic, both for about $500!
Att had me on the razr cuz it's 10 a month vs 30 for the flip
I traded in a regular S9 and got $600 credit lol
I love Motorola's innovation and Experimentation in the mobile space since the Moto Mod and Moto X. Why can't we restore some of that energy and have more long term software support for the midrange. Been sad since they left Google
moto x was great. there's features that have filtered down to this day, that nobody realises was down to Motorola.
google was only after the patents, that's why you see touchless controls now in modern phones.
Agreed. I still use my Moto Z4 on occasion. I love the mods, makes it so much more than a phone.
@@kentyler3962 same here, moto z4 didn't come to the UK, but I still have a z3. Tbh I've got z1 and z2 too.
@@karmaxarioxpower95 The crease doesn't bother me on my Flip 5 personally but I've heard it's less pronounced on the Moto

Dont be. It is a fantastic phone. The flip screen behavior he mentioned would drive me nuts, given how useful the full functioned front screen is on my Razr.
I agree. to me, the front screen of razr+ is superior, and I love it. durability issue (the hinch particularly) is my concern.

this channel convinced me to get a flip phone and I really thought I was going to go moto. the older z flips never appealed to me and I love moto's ui. but a combination of good trade ins, a very nice samsung exclusive yellow color, and the promise of more updates and better specs all won me over. it's a shame because I'm honestly not a fan of one UI at my first impression (ended up pretty quickly moving to nova launcher) and being part of the google and samsung ecosystem at the same time can feel like having divorced parents. but it was just all the little things that made me more confident I could trust the z flip especially as someone who wants to run with this phone for 3+ years.
How's everything with the phone now?? I'm thinking of getting it tmrw

Nice .
Love your videos and thanks for this comparison ❤✌️👍
because of this video i bought a Razr+ and no regrets! and yet I've been using Samsungs for over a decade.
my only regret here is that I dont get a SIM card and a Pen on either choice here, wouldnt hurt!
but it is what it is..., one feature that i like fromthe razr+ is that I can stream from the phone to a big screen.!!!
Great video! Thank you Mr Mobile for the great quality
You just gained a subscriber
both are good and i personally have the razr.
I was able to test the flip 5.
I prefer the razr and here are the reasons why :
- 120 Hz for the small outside display
- more than 95% of the apps can be used on the small display
- free protective case in the pack
- is lighter and narrower
- more Battery Life
- when it's unfolded you can't see a crease
- Moto controls and extra features….
what is better for some with the flip 5 would be that it is a bit thicker and therefore more robust in terms of the flip flexions.
and that you can hold it under water for a few minutes...but who does that in everyday life?
i love my razr and it can do everything i need and use all the apps on the small screen and no longer have to open the phone...that's why i recommend the motorola razr+ ❤❤❤❤❤❤
The flip 5 can run any app on cover screen with good lock
Great video as always! I chose the RAZR+ over the flip as it has a bigger internal display. For a 6.7 inch display id rather get a pixel, but having a 6.9 inch display available when I need it is really nice
the bigger screen it's a major go! It's nice to do most of what I need to on the outside display and open for that big 6.9 inch display. It's a bigger contrast between the two.
razr hinge is too weak
not a fan of motorola’s software .it’s not as polished as Samsung’s . and the hinge feels more fragile . returned mine and i went for flip5 .
Lmao ye I'm sure you can tell the difference between 6.7 and 6.9 😂 there isn't even 1 good reason to get the razr over a flip
@@noah-j00the hinge won't bother you after you get used to it. Sending it back for the hinge was a silly reason.
Finally, watching on the front screen on my z flip 5!
Water resistance is not that important in this format of phones, worry more about dust.
I prefer the Razr, classy, stylish and has character 😉
Also doesn't have Samsung's shit software
@@yellowhouse88L.
You can't be classy, stylish and have character at the same time 😂 the flip is way more classy like what are you even on about
@@yellowhouse88 tell me what shitty software that even beats pixel experience in terms of software updates commitments and overall stability?
Has a Garbage camera and last year's processor. No, thanks.
I ended up with the flip 5 for these exact reasons. While 8 was super excited about the razr+, I couldn't justify spending the same amount of money for a decidedly lesser phone.
You made me wait so long for this😢...... I've been debating between which one to get and I need Captain 2 Phone's input 😂😂😂
Sorry! Had some personal travel and then an Asia trip to see something very cool that I hope to show you soon!
@@TheMrMobile everything you do is cool so I look forward to it ☺️
This is one of the best eddited and monologed tech vid ive seen, let alone a great compression! Great Job! subbed.
You hadn't subbed already?
Love your creativity and all the little touches spread throughout your review. great job!
Dude the razer just has a regular phone experience with loads of bugs and 0 optimization on the outside screen while samsung actually built a separate experience for the outside screen to avoid that 😂😂
Example: 9:54
I have the razr and not experienced any bugs. also in 2 months, I have had 3 security updates which is great.
@bubbledoubletrouble What do you mean tho? Samsung allows you to run ANY APP on the outside screen with good lock, I would say it delivers more in terms of usability
Great review (as always) but what about the regular Razor without plus?
Like the look of razr, samsung seems more bulky...also the outer screen is great in razr if what i understand you can choose what you will use there
The best flip phones comparison by a long margin! Keep it up!
@@xXVibrantSnowXx
Oh, my razr never heats that bad during calls, had a 2 hour call and everything was fine for me
Let's not forget it was Motorola who was the first on cell phones that started the whole cell phone industry / Everyone else just copied. I still greatly respect Motorola, and shall wait till they out do all the competition.
what about battery
The battery is actually okay with both, the razr isn't quite as power heavy, so it lasts just a bit longer
the semiotic analysis of this comparison is so good entertaining and educative at the same time!!! haven't seen this in a while in other youtubers vidss
Here wondering if you're using the term semiotic correctly.
I went with the Razr and couldn't be happier with it. I messed around with the Samsung and you sum it up best with the kid mode on the front screen. Either way you get some solid tech.
Now I can enjoy the rest of my night with Mr mobile video!!!! Been waiting for this one!!!
The outer screen looks so much nicr on the razr, i love the curved edges
The video I’ve been waiting for!
Love the lil DS9 clip!
Super great video, `The video content and voice over was really brilliant.. 1 extra subscriber today
It's that thing, if a tech looks like it came from the future, it might as well not be actually better than the ones from the present.
okay... Micheal I have a confession 😂 you got me into flip phones in the first place and I bought a razor 5g and loved it but recently I've been wanting to get another foldable from my lg wing, and as much as I like the RAZR+ better... 😢 I have to do something I swore I would never do... buy a zflip cause it's free with trade in but also the razor is on a great deal! so idk.
I watching this on a flip 5. I quite like it! The screen is really bright outside when you switch on the "extra bright" option.
A Master of Mobile Phone Reviews as ALWAYS!!
Shopping for mine right now. Man, what roller coaster ride. I started pro-razr, switched to Samsung, them back to razr. Ooof. Great video
I'm still rocking my S20+ it hasn't done me wrong yet!
