If acts of service are his love language, then he must not love her very much.

    • @idgarobingoodfellow
      @idgarobingoodfellow ปีที่แล้ว +35

It's also just a total misrepresentation of the premise of love languages in the first place?
For example, my love languages are gifts and quality time, while my boyfriend's are words of affirmation and acts of service. What that looks like is I am spending weeks on a painting for his birthday and am always suggesting things to do together, and when I'm having a bad day, the thing that means most to me is him showing up with something small to cheer me up, like a chocolate bar or a $3 coffee from the local coffee shop I like, and us watching something together, and for him, he notices things that I need done, like an errand to be done or my car needs gas, and he'll go and do it for me without being asked, as well as telling me what I mean to him, and it means the most to him when I do things like clean his cats' litter boxes and make sure they're taken care of when he's out of town for work, or take the extra time to tell him the shirt he's wearing looks nice on him, etc, even though those aren't things that come naturally to me, because I love him and that's how he receives that message best, and he goes along with the things I suggest we do together and brings me a small gift from the places he goes for work because he knows that stuff means the most to me, as well as appreciating the things I make for/give him, and I appreciate when he tells me he thinks I'm beautiful or takes things off my plate because we know that's us telling each other without words how much the other means to us in the way we know best.
Love languages, like all languages, are about COMMUNICATION.

Story 3: the cops were so wrong in this. The employee did not escalate the situation by saying the one swear. It was already escalated. It was already out of control. That sentence did not add but a drop of fuel onto an already burning waste pit. To try and put the blame on the employee was wrong. That cop sounds as if he was trying to avoid arresting everyone or at least those that damaged the property. The hotel has cameras all over a front desk.

From personal experience in two long term relationships...I've had that card played on me before. Mostly just this unspoken expectation that they bw provided a clean house and meals without honoring the give and take that meant in our past family structures. What is this unspoken rule that females are on the hook to do ALL the cooking ALL the cleaning and EVERYTHING home related, and oh yeah be a modern gal and work just as much as the huaband? I have lived that twice. Once with a husband who still expected a spotless house though I was in and out of the hospital weighing 80 pounds and not knowing if I would live or not. I'm not unusual, I hear this same complaint from the women I work with. My coworker with breast cancer gets reprimanded by her husband every day for some overlooked household chore. WHEN IS THE MAJORITY OF THE MALE SPECIES GOING TO STOP DEMANDING A MOMMY WHOSE BOOBIES THEY CAN PLAY WITH? I'm not saying "all men", just a big old portion of em'. My parents have that old world relationship stepdad handles all trash, yard, & car related work AND pays the bills. Mom uses her income for groceries and Rx expenses. The modern "50/50" in the modern guys eyes is 50/50 on financial stuff... But they still don't wanna change nappies or fix a.meal. wanting that cake and eating it too. We've spoken up and said "boys you don't have to support the home solely on your income anymore" what we failed to instill was that there is a compromise here. Sharing the breadwinners responsibilities means sharing the domestic aspects too. How in the heck as a society can we be both leaps and bounds advanced yet so stunted??

Story 3: Cops should have asked to see the security footage before letting the family of Karens leave. That way they could see who was the most aggressive, who threw/knocked over furniture, and could charge those people with destruction of private property, disorderly conduct, assault, and anything else the cops can think of. Also, if the Karen family booked through a 3rd party or app, then I would lodge a complaint through them against Karen, and basically say that the whole family attacked the staff/destroyed the lobby when they were told the hot tub was out of order, and that the whole family had to be removed by the police.

LMAO at the boyfriend in the fourth story "acts of service is my love language!" That's not how "love languages" work, those are what YOU do to show affection for people you care about, not what you like to have people do for you to make you feel their affection. If acts of service was his love language then he would be doing things for his girlfriend, what he is describing is just him being lazy, in denial about his laziness, and attempting to manipulate people in his life so he can continue being lazy. Her boyfriend has an anti-social behavioural problem plain and simple, and he wants a mommy not a girlfriend she needs to get the hell out of there fast.

I work in hotel industry. It's not common knowledge that rooms on points are unchangeable.
With the chain I work, if the room is still available you can make changes to it. This situation is a bit different though. It sounds like they were at a chain where rooms on points are handled centrally not locally, probably something like marriott or Hilton.
Once a guest checks in, whether it's a paid stay or a room on points central team can't modify it. And usually the hotel directly can't even make a reservation on points.
What this was was the guest wanted a free night, and didn't want to pay for it. They came back to the room at a later time hoping that shift change had happened, the only thing i think the hotel did wrong was they should have had someone escort them up to get their stuff, that way they couldnt just stay in the room. I'm glad the night auditor just decided to charge them a room.

Hotel Karen story: I wouldn't have bothered arguing with them. Again, as they refused to make a new reservation it's time to call the police and have them trespassed.
Hot tub story: Thank goodness OP managed to maintain enough presence of mind to call the police. She should have done so earlier, but better late than not at all. I would assume that the front desk area had cameras with audio for just such reasons, even though they're not mentioned.

They put the person in the basket and pulled him/her up. Then they pulled him up after. It was something to see!

@@Mileonen No. Cameras for security and the safety of staff as well as guests. Mostly for the security and safety of staff. The attempts to BS their way into getting free services is bad enough, but when the entire family set into their verbal assault (particularly the first male member), that is when the call to the police should have happened. Maybe hotels/motels should have a silent alarm button on the floor that could be triggered with a foot or some where below counter height, out of site that could be triggered with the side of a knee or the hand.
Many, many years ago I interviewed for a job as a night front counter person, and when the interviewer started in on describing what to do and how to handle obstreperous guests, I politely said, "Nope. No thank you. I am not interesting in potentially having to deal with guests behaving poorly, more to the point, worse than my 4 year old son does on one of his bad days.

One lady had made a reservation but her card declined and we did 2 courtesy calls and were sent to voicemail - which we did leave voicemails and it was noted in the reservation. So after 4pm having heard nothing, the afternoon shift canceled which sends them an email, and checked in a walk-in because it was a holiday weekend. The lady came in at 11 trying to check in and then screamed at me that we broke the contract for giving her room away even though she hadn't paid any money. Demanded I show her logs on our phones of our attempts to call her because she had no missed calls on her phone. I ended up calling the police, because we did have one room left but it wasn't the type she wanted and was only available for the night - she started screaming about how we would be kicking them out in the morning and that it was the worst customer service ever. Both her and her husband tried coming around the desk to touch shit and scream at me. I had also called my manager to let her know and she told me if they wanted the last room just give it to them. -_- the police also said well there's a room I don't see a problem if they're going to pay for it, but let them know they needed to find a place to stay the following day. they were still angry in the morning when they got up and were told when checkout was.

Story 3 : I hate to hear stories like this :( it sounds like the OP of this story worked for a hotel in something like a Marriott chain or Hilton chain if she described getting a guest blacklisted all across the U.S.
I'm a central worker for a similar chain, and have been doing it for about 6 years now so not just a regular reservation agent. I can at least see how this all happened :(. If the OP said their pool was open but their hit tub was close than it was probably early to mid 2021. In March or 2020 until about early 2021 alot of the chain I worked for's pools AND hot tubs were closed, so if the pool was open it must have been a bit further along in the pandemic.
Alot of times the reservation agents that are central or work from home will get call with a hotel preloaded in and when they do they are supposed to pretend like they are on site at the hotel. There is an internal fact page about a hotel that we have access to that gives us alot of info, but during the pandemic there was a big problem of pools and fitness facilities closing but the facts page still showing the operation hours on the page. Everything did get updated centrally where all the hotels had to update if their pools and other facilities were operational and for a while that worked, because if the pool shut down then so was the hottub and we could tell the guests no sorry it's all closed.
The problem arose when they started reopening pools but keeping the hit tubs closed down due to not having enough space for social distancing. Alot of reservation agents got that call where they would see the pool hours and assume it's all open when in reality it was just the pools.
You would not belive the amount of calls I would receive with angry guests being told pools were open when they were closed or hot tubs being open when they weren't....
Hotels would oftentimes provide a discount to the room for the misinformation given, but to immediately resort to screaming and throwing a fit will get you nowhere hut kicked out.

Wow, that Karen family was terrifying! Too bad the police didn’t throw them all in the clink for what clearly sounds like assault!

Story #3 was updated. The Karen sent a text to OP's boss that sounded like Karen was drunk so the boss told Karen she wasn't allowed back so Karen called and at first sweet as pie saying OP was the crazy one and didn't give Karen her ID and credit card back. The boss told Karen she was watching the camera footage and Karen's story didn't match. Karen. Went. Off. The boss reiterated Karen wasn't allowed back at her hotel or any hotel in the chain, so Karen said she was going up the chain to the top. The boss called her boss and told him what happened and sided with OP and her boss and would tell Karen this.
Story #3 - they should be charged with destruction of property at the very least or the hotel should charge their card. I feel bad for the hotel employee and I hope the GM of that hotel calls the reservation center and rips them a new one for telling that Karen that the hotel's facilities were open!!!!
Story #4 - OP is NTA, the boyfriend is though.

    Cop: Did you say, "XYZ"?
Me: Irrelevant. Defending myself and the property entrusted to my care is not a crime.

I need people to realize that being the first one in an incident to pull out a phone and record doesn’t mean you’re in the right.

Story 3. As soon as the family starts flipping out. OK let me go to the back and I’ll have my manager override for you and take care of you. Then go in back, call the police, report a hostile family and that you fear for your safety, possibly your life. That’s how you handle that.
