BMW S1000R world launch - motorcycle journalist Roland Brown tests BMW's 160bhp four-cylinder super-naked bike on its international press introduction in Majorca, Spain
On an open racetrack the S1000RR would have the edge, everywhere else, and especially on the street where you'll actually be riding the bike, the S1000R will be a far better bike for several reasons, not the least of which is that the power has been greatly increased where you actually need it and use it on the street most.
"So like any super naked the R isn't the bike for long trips or bad weather." I was under the impression that was part of the point or a Super Naked with more of an upright ergo. They're sport touring bikes.
Why are these guys leaning their lower body and keeping their head over the instrument cluster..... i just feel like they arent riding these like the 1000cc bikes they are. still love the RR
If you have ridden a 160bhp naked bike you will know its plenty fast enough, especially when it handles and stops too,i have a tuono V4 1000 and in the real world is faster than a full on sport bike and miles more comfortable, the ktm i am sure will be great but just to expensive compared.
20 hp down, almost 30 ft lb down and heavier...(here comes the only subjective, yet majority accepted, part) all from a characterless inline 4, I'll take the KTM thanks.
khamid1 LOL, I'll take the "characterless inline 4" over any twin, anyday. The KTM is undoubtedly a great bike, so go for it. For me, the BMW is far and away more bang for the buck, more features, more dealerships, the list goes on. In terms of performance, it is right there with the KTM. 160hp is way more than enough for any and all street riding, you won't miss the 20hp anywhere other than a track.
Same performance, BMW has cruise control, quick shifter, heated grips, I can see an awesome sport touring rig with a little soft luggage. AND it looks way better, imo.
This bike is quickly becoming one of my favorites out
Everyone's saying how rubbish this is because it's 30hp down on the RR but 160hp is a lot more than anyone would ever need on a naked for the road.
the 1000R has more Torque than the RR, keep that in mind

exactly, anything over 100 is more then plenty for the road.
Under 60mph you can't use anything over 100hp, because it will wheelie.

David Sargee anyways on the dyno the bmw & ktm have the same power.
