My 19 Sk1r wheelied off a small crest at 50mph in 5th gear the other day. Just out for a nice leisurely cruise, you can anticipate the small rises and just goose the throttle a bit even at low revs to loft the front end. BMW makes a great machine.
Excellent review on a brilliant bike. I have ridden my son's 2017 model and it is awesome. The quick shifter and the popping when changing down always makes me smile.
Hi Scott, I'm one of your new fans, I subscribed last week, currently I'm on a marathon watching all of your videos, going from recent to 2018. Love your voice, very calm, precise reviews, honest and superb use of video tech. I'm a huge BMW fan and ur reviews made me feel more confident and comfortable with European bikes especially with BMW compared with Japanese. 👍😊🤗 Thank you so much.
I love this bike. I had the 2018 S1000R. Now traded it in for the coming 2021 S1000R motorsports version. Up to 10,000rpm it’s the equal of the S1000RR. So plenty for roads and twisties.
Great review as usual. I really appreciate very much the way you describe the bikes you review. Taking your time. And also the choices you made in editing your videos. I’m 52 -so a very old man also- and ride a 1090 adventure, great motorcycle btw 😁. Thank you!
Hi Ar, thank you! Ah, so you're my age, then you understand the riding position we "older" guys have with bikes like these...hehe. And the 1090, I think I'd buy the 1090 over the 1290 any day, just because it is really that good of a bike. It is often over looked because of the 1290 and won't even consider the 1090, if they did, they'd buy it. Greeting from Germany!
Agree with you comment re new Speed Triple v S1000r in respect to low rpm torque. I test rode the ST as a potential replacement for my ‘17 s1000r, but the ST felt less lively. So I kept the s1000r, and will wait for the new version based on the just released s1000rr.
You look like Don Johnson mate. I was expecting that epic Miami Vice theme to start. Great review mate. I am an ex-Tuono Factory owner. The Tuono is an awesome bike but man the Tuono was more track bike than daily inner city occasional highway thrill. I'd be interested to see if & when BMW will release an updated s1000r in 2019. I hope they do.
Thanks Gabriel, I think...LOL! Rumour has it that the S1000R will be updated next year. But and this is a big but, right now BMW is having problems with launching the new S1000RR, delay after delay after delay. The engine block had a problem with a hole being drilled or not but that is fixed now but early deliveries of the 2019 S1000RR have to go back to the dealerships and checked to see if they have the good block or bad. And if they have the bad, then the bike has to be sent back to BMW, it can't be fixed at the dealership. Issues like this is why the rumour mill says next year and not this year for the updated S1000R. I agree with you on the Tuono, it is really a great bike, in fact it is my favorite in the super naked group but as a daily and weekend bike, well it's just not so comfortable, with me being over 50 years old. And that is why I own the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, still right there wiht the Tuono and S1000R in performance but more comfortable. Cheers, Scott
Realy like your reviews, very good for us "normal" guys that only have 2-3 track days a year. I was between this bike and the Superduke r. Ended up with the Superduke,hehe.. Thanks..
Thanks for sharing. I love with this bike, for its standard setting engineering, software control and finish, except for the plastic front brake reservoir and cap.
I have a 2019 Bmw s1000r sport as a daily rider for 8 months of the year , I took this over Ktm u mentioned because bmw has a better dealer network here , plus there Is a better second hand market for Bmw compared to ktm if I ever decided to sell it or trade it in , I came from a 16 r1200r to 18 r9t to this having had some problems with the previous 2 but I’ve put up 7800 kms on mine now this year it has been bullet proof so far not 1 problem yet , only problem I have with this bike is it wants to go fast all the time where if you had a R1250R it can do that too but can also cruise around at a slower speed in more comfort , plus this bike is a lot heavier on fuel so I could see myself some day maybe going back to the R 1250 R or RS maybe , Cheers from Ireland
Motorcycle addict that’s what i did, just traded in my 2019 r1000s for a r1250r, due to the corona issues, still waiting to be delivered, hope i wont’t regret it!
igorko69 I’m sure your will love the r1250r too , great all rounder , I didn’t ride the new 1250 yet , I had 1200 one & it was a fast bike when opened up , shaft drive broke in pieces on me taking off from a traffic light one day , 22,000 kms & it was nearly 2 year old at the time but kicking I got it fixed under warranty & then traded it in shortly after
Motorcycle addict I’m coming off an R1200RS looking at the S1000R. I loved the RS but as I already have an Africa Twin set up for touring I’m thinking of something lighter, faster and more responsive. Not that I have a need to do longer rides on the S1000R but how does she do at interstate speeds in terms of buzz? Heard they can be a little buzzy.
Well, a lot of motorcycle magazines have been speculating that for a few months now and with the R and XR being based on the S1000RR, they should be next in line. Let's hope it will be 2019!
@@NothingToProve hmm I was just surfing around TH-cam for single R reviews because I was planning to get a 2018 single R (My regional BMW Motorrad offered mehell lot of promotions since its end of the year). Is it going to be worth it waiting for 2019 version...? Curious
Well BMW is supposed (speculation) to update the S 1000 series (all 3 bikes) in 2019 but have only announced the RR, now when the other two bikes (R and XR) will be launched is the question, spring, summer or fall??? I hope it will be spring of course! Will it be worth the wait...can't answer that question but if your looking for a deal then the left-over 2018 is the bike to get.
the current tuono factory has a chopy throttle at town speeds and a mine had a lag delay with the throttle as well where youd twist the thing and then moments later it would propel you. plus its heavier and felt slower than the s1000r i use to own. it did feel more planted and it gave better feedback on the far edge of the tyre though. you also cant use the cruise control around town speeds with the tuono. weighing them up i think the s1000r is the best super naked, i wish id never sold it but it did actually loose me my licence...not regretably though as ownership of it was a blast. i traded the tuono for another bmw - an r nine t. its fantastic and doesnt entice me to do those licence loosing speeds
I have very little experience on the Tuono, something I hope to fix in the next two weeks, I'll do a review of one. Then I can give you a better opinion. Right now, my opinion is that the Tuono is more fun but the S1000R is a more stable platform to ride. But just wait about two weeks for the Tuono RR review 😁 cause the Tuono I was on was a few years (before I started my channel) ago and my memory is not what it used to be and I want to compare a 2020 to a 2020.
NothingToProve excellent! Also if you could share how did you end up living in Germany, your English is too perfect either your American or Canadian ? Usable torque and peak torque offer very different riding characteristics. When comparing the torque curves of two motorcycles, a bike with a lower peak torque may actually have higher torque throughout most of the rpm range, thus offering better acceleration and a more satisfying feel. Scott, you may remember riding the Honda NC750s, which has low peak numbers but a very satisfying feel. It offers higher torque at lower rpms than its competitors, which feel dull in comparison. Although this horsepower and torque curve is with the Honda NC700x, it will help you understand how the Honda accelerates better at low rpms, then cuts out early...whilst the competition rpms keep increasing to higher peak horsepower and torque. However, from 1000-5000 rpm, the Honda has more torque and horsepower than its competitors...which makes it easier to get off the line faster, but requires faster shifting.
I would pick the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100RR. LOL! Seriously though, if I'm going to be 5° to 10° leaned forward, as one is on both of these bikes, I'd get the Tuono. It wins for me in looks and power. But if I want to set up-right I'd get the 1290 SDR, which I've owned for over 3 years now. OK, ok, but these two bikes are different in two main ways, looks and power. Looks the BMW is the classic Super Naked look and the Honda is the Neo/Retro/Classic look, two different looks and I think Honda did a good job on not going to far with the look, just right, IMHO. Power: this is where there is a big difference, the BMW will pull away from the Honda at just about every spot on the RPM gauge. Which would I pick...the BMW moved me in a way that the Honda just didn't while riding it. So I guess the BMW, if I had to choose between these two. Luckily there are more bikes out there...hehe.
Hello there Nothing to Prove” i just wanna ask your Honest Opinion because im having hard time to choose which one i buy..... im thinking between this S1000r or Honda CB 1000r it will be my Bike in the Rest of my Life so i need to be in Right Decision Pls Help me as you are More Expert than me Thank you si much and more Power to you & always Have a Safe Ride!
This bike should also be tested on a racetrack pushing her to the limits, not just taxing with no leaning, no hard brakes, no rev limit pushing etc etc
Thank you Trucker, yes, workin' on it. Each video takes over 20 hours of time, some more, some less. So only one and sometimes two per week during riding season is about all I can do. Thanks for watching, Scott Warner
Which would I choose between the two? Well, I already have made that decision, I bought a 1290 Super Duke R in 2016 and still own it now and still love it and still would not trade it for the S1000R. The reason is that the riding position is more comfortable, more up-right and more leg room (and V-Twin!). The other reason is simply TORQUE. The SDR has more torque at 4000 RPM than any other super naked at their peek torque. That is fun, real street-able fun, no revving needed to have fun, wheelies on demand at the flick of a wrist. When I decided on the SDR, the question I was answering was "which bike will be the most fun...all the time...on the street". So fun factor was number one on my list and still is today. And I believe that after riding over 40 different motorcycles in the last 10 months of starting my youtube channel, the SDR is still the most fun. I would not trade it for any of them. So really it depends on what you want, fun? track-day weapon? all-rounder? ...etc. Track-day weapon, I would choose the S1000R over the SDR for example...although I'd take the Tuono V4 over the S1000R for a track day weapon :) Hope this helps, Cheers Scott
How would this bike compare to BMW's own R1200R? In all the YT videos of both the S1000R and S1000XR, the boxer-engined ones (1200R and 1200RS respectively) seem... smoother?
I'm interested in this too. I just rode the r1250r and it's beautifully smooth. If this is a 4 cylinder version then great, but I've a feeling it's probably brutal instead.
Hi Colonel, heh, I like your name. Two different bikes for two different riding styles. This is a track day weapon that you can comfortably ride on the street, with a focus on performance. The 1250R is a roadster, laid-back, relaxed & comfortable that you would not want to take to a track day, with a focus on...well...what I said in the first part of this sentence. They are both great bikes and both do what they are supposed to do very, very well. Generally I find older guys riding the 1250R and they have come from riding bikes like the S1000R in the past. So which is better, it's hard to compare the two because they don't compete against each other. Sorry, I can't pick between the two, I like them both. Take care, Scott
Very nice review. I recently watched your review on the Triumph STREET triple RS. Apart from the size aspect 1000 vs 765 which did you prefer? I currently ride a 2012 675 street and have been toying around with updating the bike to something modern. So which would you prefer to live with BMW or Street Triple RS.
Well, I just rode the 2019 Street Triple RS (4 weeks ago) on the track and it was pretty GOOD! (see my video "Track day on the Harzring") And I was chasing a S1000R most of the time on the track. The RS corners with the S1000R but the S1000R pulls away from it on the corner exits...of course. Riding posture and ergo's are pretty close but the weight is where you can feel that the RS is lighter and with the updated air intake/induction - the air intake sound is awesome! If cost is an issue then go for the RS but if you want more power then of course the S1000R but I believe that BMW will update the S1000R next year so if cost is not an issue, wait and get the next gen S1000R. Or wait till next year and get a left-over 2019 S1000R cheaper! I really don't know which I'd get, that is a tough question. Both bikes are very very good, I have no real criticisms of either. I guess the RS has a little more soul and character than the S1000R, but if perfection is what you are looking for then the S1000R is what you need...of course "it's a BMW". LOL! Cheers, Scott
Hi Everyone is there someone could help me to Decide which is Best to buy between Bmw S1000r 2018 and CB 1000r 2019? For Long Ownership! Enjoy the Rides & be Safe Always...Thank you Guys”
If you plan on tracking it go s1000r, if you just want a powerful daily with cheaper maintenance for the street go cb. It also depends which one you think looks better. Personally I think the cb1000r looks better. I just wish we could get the Grey one in the US.
I had one of these, little issues with back and the position tried to make it more touring which with the amount of parts bought I think in hindsight was not ok because for a more sporty s1000 sport touring there is the XR! So all in all i think the R has no place in the segment as long as you have the super duke R or the tuono factory. I had the XR and now have a Tuono. Tested the super duke R also what a bike but I prefer the tuono i don’t have the same back issues love the form of the tank quite good for track days love the sound and the feedback from chasis. Ride Black Forest, Alps and track. Done a 1000km ride recently and made no touring mods. I will leave it as is. Great review thanks for posting. Btw if you would have gone to the 9000 revs and above you can find the real s1000 :)
coming from an FZ10, i thought the fueling was fuckin' on point. I know the MT/FZ lineup is known for having a snatchy throttle, and i've never rode an MT10 SP w/ the dynamics from Yam, but soon as i hopped on one of these i was like yep this is what i want.
Nice review. Beautiful countryside - I guess central Germany? How does handling compare to Triumph Speed Triple? BTW, some of us prefer analog tachs...new is not always better, although the black/white LCD is definitely weak.
Hi Andrew, thank you. Yes, well more northern Germany. Handling, I'd take the S1000R over the Speed Triple RS on a track day, simply because the S1000R evolved from the S1000RR, which is a track day weapon. I'd even take the Street Triple RS over the Speed Triple RS to a track day. But if you don't do track days, it's a wash. Then going by looks, the Speed Triple RS wins, at least for me.
Oh and tachs, yes I still prefer the analog over almost all LCD, but there are some new TFT's that are starting to convince me to go over to the dark side, hehe.
Hi Rohan, this was shot in Langeland, Germany, well for a lot of the video. The clouds were really rolling though and was really changing the lighting on me.
Hi Keystone, looks wise, yes the ST just has "IT". But the power just comes on better on the S1000R, well it has almost 20 ponies...so of course. BUT, and that is a big but, power is not everything.
@@NothingToProve Thanks for the reply. Do you mean you enjoyed Speed Triple more despite the power delivery? You certainly seem more excited in the ST video, although you've mentioned the S1000R, spec-wise, is better power.
Umm...for everyday riding, I think I would take the ST RS, because of all the carbon fiber and the fit and finish is second to none. And the triple sound....well...need I say more...hehe.
That's not the dealerships choice too make. It's for insurance reasoning. Just go buy the bike and don't be petty about something out of their control. I'm in the same exact position.
For whom was actwaly paying attention to the "nex year update - wink wink" I wold love this to be true... but bmw updates bikes not too very often :( s1000rr was 10 years on sale before the 2019 update ... gs range gets the most updates because it has the biggest sales numbers in their showrooms.... BUT if you have some info we wold greatly appreciate :) Random facts and oppinions... saving for 2 years for a motorcycle and atm i can ALMOST afford mt09 or z900 / are they worth buying brand new and keeping for 10+ yrs or should I waith and go for something bigger (mt10 / s1000r / superduke / monster1200 ) - and that is why I am asking about the s1000r update... next year if it where to be on sale it wold be awsome timing, cause s1000r right now I fear that I if where to get one and new model comes out in a couple of months = super sad moment
Ozun George I’ve had small bikes. I went from a ktm 390 duke to a speed triple 140hp. I test rode the ktm 790 and loved it, but in my opinion, if you can trust yourself, go for a litre bike, torque everywhere and I actually feel better on a bike with a bit more weight/mass to it.
Calm, composed and honest review. Keep it up👍

However, from 1000-5000 rpm, the Honda has more torque and horsepower than its competitors...which makes it easier to get off the line faster, but requires faster shifting.

Can you review every bike? Lol
I love the in depth material.
Thank you Trucker, yes, workin' on it. Each video takes over 20 hours of time, some more, some less. So only one and sometimes two per week during riding season is about all I can do.
Thanks for watching,
Scott Warner
This bike will be made near perfect, I believe, next year when they add the TFT screen. Maybe even add backlit handlebar switches for night riding.
Agreed, that was really my only complaint on this whole bike, which is rare and rumor has it that it will come in 2020, not this year :(
@@NothingToProve sooo also not in 2020. but i dont wanna spend ~18k on a bike, so i'll take one from 2021 in the year 2024 (my masterplan ;)
Appreciate your videos, respect your opinion.... choosing between s1000r and 1290 superduke r. Can you give me the bottom line on your opinion?
So really it depends on what you want, fun? track-day weapon? all-rounder? ...etc. Track-day weapon, I would choose the S1000R over the SDR for example...although I'd take the Tuono V4 over the S1000R for a track day weapon :)
Hope this helps, Cheers Scott
Very helpful... thanks again and keep the excellent vids coming @@NothingToProve
I love this bike........
Which is better r1250 R or this ...
This or the R1250R?! Less torque, more top end. I haven't ridden one of these but the R is so smooth. Guessing this isn't.
Oh yea, this is smooth, it's a BMW. LOL!
Schönes Video

Go S1000R
If you plan on tracking it go s1000r, if you just want a powerful daily with cheaper maintenance for the street go cb. It also depends which one you think looks better. Personally I think the cb1000r looks better. I just wish we could get the Grey one in the US.
This bike is superb !!! I had one ..
I did, just can't/won't show that on youtube... :)
coming from an FZ10, i thought the fueling was fuckin' on point. I know the MT/FZ lineup is known for having a snatchy throttle, and i've never rode an MT10 SP w/ the dynamics from Yam, but soon as i hopped on one of these i was like yep this is what i want.
Guessing the pulling from low down is because of shorter gearing.
or possibly change the teeth on the sprocket too...
im talking about CB 1000r 2019 Neo Cafe”
Hey there😁 Which tyres were you running?
M7 RR, I think...
What is this place looks beautiful??
Hi Rohan, this was shot in Langeland, Germany, well for a lot of the video. The clouds were really rolling though and was really changing the lighting on me.
Hello there! Thank you for your videos, any review with the new super Duke gt? :D thank you
Fantastic review well done but 80kph in 5th gear??? should be in 3rd at most!
Great Review ☺☺
It pulls more cuz its got 17 more horsepower my friend...
Scorch that Ttiumph😎
Do you like this better than the new Speed Triple?
@@NothingToProve Thank you for you opinion sir!
I wanted to buy one today but they declined a test ride because I'm young so I just walked out.
That's not the dealerships choice too make. It's for insurance reasoning. Just go buy the bike and don't be petty about something out of their control. I'm in the same exact position.
For whom was actwaly paying attention to the "nex year update - wink wink" I wold love this to be true... but bmw updates bikes not too very often :(
s1000rr was 10 years on sale before the 2019 update ... gs range gets the most updates because it has the biggest sales numbers in their showrooms....
BUT if you have some info we wold greatly appreciate :)
Random facts and oppinions... saving for 2 years for a motorcycle and atm i can ALMOST afford mt09 or z900 / are they worth buying brand new and keeping for 10+ yrs or should I waith and go for something bigger (mt10 / s1000r / superduke / monster1200 ) - and that is why I am asking about the s1000r update... next year if it where to be on sale it wold be awsome timing, cause s1000r right now I fear that I if where to get one and new model comes out in a couple of months = super sad moment
My s1000r accelerates harder than my son's Superduke!
Excellent review. Very relaxing to watch. Got my sub. Now to check out your others.
Hi guyyyyyssszz
Trust me. You must be very, very careful when choosing this bike. Because it will transform you into a hooligan.
You need a coffee☕
Yea, an IV drip.
