Do your own basic service the car needs that first .Top up and replace any fluids .Most parts are very cheap from Brit parts ..new breaks inc disc's will cost you about £300 for all , service filters ect are about £10 , your Back tailgate is easy fix ..parts for cable replacement unit from Landrover dealer is best will cost about £50 ,,takes about 30 mins. Clean engine bay then inspect engine bay for any obvious lose plugs covers clips ect .. ..I had mine and sold after 120,000 miles it was still running well ..with no real issues ..Good cars if you keep it serviced ..now running a newer 20 plate RR Sport .. good value for money . Dont pay the Range Rover Tax ... under the bodywork it's still a landrover ..Parts are cheap if you can't do it yourself find a good local service centre .lots of 4x4 service places . PS you will also need to buy a good bottle jack and braker bar if you have a flat tyre !!!. Other than that its all fixable for less than you think .. Enjoy ..
You bought a poorly maintained L405 and surprised it’s not reliable…it’s an expensive car to maintain but proving you do, it’ll prove reliable. It’s the low cost that attracts people who can’t afford to maintain
Ee just bought a L405 v8tdi for our father with 245xxxkm it still looks like new from inside and outside, very good maintained. And i gotta say its just the best all-rounder u can get for the money.
I have this model (2011). I realised that my model was good but needed TLC. These cars tend to be badly maintained with people not spending the money to keep them on form. I changed all the fluids, replaced the turbo some belts and a good full service plus all brake pipes. It runs fabulously. Just completed a 1500 mile journey. Effortless. Lesson: If you buy for say 10 k then you will need 5k to get it up to scratch. You just will. Run on good diesel and heres the main thing. Make sure this engine reaches over 3000 rpm each week. It runs at such low revs and requires the engine to reach higher revs once nicely warm to remain in good fettle. Repair everything. remember this is a car that cost 80-100k. Don't buy if you are not prepared to properly maintain.. I have also owned three 911's. They cost me far more in repair bills
Biggest worry with these is the pan roof water leak. JLR built an aluminium car with a steel sunroof and the drain spigots corrode causing a hidden internal water leak that flows under the headlining, down the A and B posts and under the carpet flooding the electrics and cause catastrophic damage writing the car off. By the time you notice it it’s often too late. The fix if caught in time is either a new pan roof or trying to repair the drainage spigots that corrode and break off
A lot of car for the money , love the blue and ivory combo and looks absolutely luxury for the price . Like others have said change all fluids and deal with all the small repairs and you will have a good car
@@Spartansrule118 I got the restricted performance light and stupidly took it to the main dealer. The issue was a cracked manifold inlet which is a labour intensive job (at £185 per hour!). Also Front anti-roll bar bushes were done and nuts seized on a seal which meant they had to drill new holes into the subframe. Wheel alignment and a service came to £3066 (and 4 weeks without a car) Last year (5 weeks it was in waiting for parts) the rear stabiliser hoses went £1155 Whether its wise or not, I've decided to have the timing belt done as its 8 years old now and I'll just run it to death.
Great video. I have got exactly the same car, colour, spec, like yours mine needs the heating valves changing, however the dealership is charging me a grand to fix it which is alot higher than what you said in the video? Do you know any specialist I can take mine to?
Great insight to something I always wanted but never had the nerve to buy..did this come with any service history to see what money nad been spent over its 90g miles as these are not condition based services but annual I believe..
I have just swapped our 65 plate RR and from new its been spot on ,yes its had some money over the years but its only normal maintenance really and being the 4.4 its got some get up and go and it good on fuel too (better than the 3.0 ).ours had 72000 and we did get£15000 in part ex , who ever buys it will get a great car (fd65 nby). Had to get another RR this time it’s the p400 (3.0 twin turbo petrol) its a lot smoother to drive just not quite the grunt of the v8 but its still gutsy,I do need to put the deployable sidesteps on it though as it just makes it easier to get in and out of it . We have had RR since 1995 which was a classic with air suspension now that was problematic
Hope your right pick mine up on the 6th from a dealer thk god lol years W with it so as you say hopefully i love it . Good video to see when you fix it
Unfortunetely thats the trap with these, super cheap for all the great tech and comfort you get. But theyre cheap for a reason... Id take a BMW X5 over one of these any day, just drove a 2010 X5 I bought for £5k to Italy and back in 3 days, didnt step a foot wrong. Happily cruised at 80mph and averaged nearly 40mpg.
@@Rangeroverden44 Ive owned both, disagree completely. X5 is a Better drive, MUCH more reliable and trustworthy. Better engines, more power, more economy. Ill give you less comfortable, but thats about it...
Nothing to do with the engine mounts lol 😂 !! The SDv8 and supercharged have active hydraulic anti-roll bars called ACE Anti cornering enhancement. The sdv6 has standard antiroll bars.
You can't buy a neglected expensive car for peanuts and expect instant perfection. The previous owner sold it to avoid spending money on it. Even enthusiast owners will ease off on the maintenance when they decide it's going. My car is getting towards a second gearbox service ideally. First was done well ahead of the official recommendations, and it's been perfect, but then I may not keep it for that much longer so will I spend the money? Little bits you'd replace instantly, well, only keeping it for another few months so, leave it and live with it. The list goes on. Put it into a decent specialist and hand them £4k and THEN compare your perfect £19k Range Rover to the £60k Audi. The Audi will be garbage in comparison.
You have a £12000 Range Rover sadly. The 4k plus it's going to cost to fix them issues would have bought you a much nicer example to start with. Absolutely lovely cars (I own one) but you don't want to be the owner of one when someone has been cheap with it. Please keep an eye on that 4.4. You will be scraping the car if that engine goes on you, and they do at an alarming rate.
@@swissoutdoor777 No, I got a recall notice. Mind you, when the dealer did the work they managed to damage the drive shaft, somehow 😱 so i got a new one of those too.
@@adijksman Ahh okay. Here in switzerland there is no recall. If they are cracked you still have to for pay it. I will get my L405 shortly. I will check it.
Please, the 4.4 is a ticking time bomb. Oil dilution! Look it up before it's too late for you. Turbo goes.. it blows the engine... loads of issues on that engine.as for body role, same suspension between the two with regards to handling.
i was thinking of buying one of them but the insurance put me off , it was gonna cost me 16k , NO WAY , ill stick to my golf r estate 7.5 lol far better. 😄

Exactly the way to do it! Thanks for the insight
Brakes even!
To add, the parking brake fault will no doubt be one or both plastic parking brake actuators being cracked and allowing water in causing the fault.
Thanks I have a 2014 4.4L in Australia. Great car but ohhhh the cost of repair is frightening. I am on a steep learning curve to do myself

Maintenance on this Range Rover will be a fraction of the depreciation of a new luxury SUV
Exactly, that's often overlooked by the "a month" brigade. I've been running mine which I bought 15 months old for nearly 8 years
L405 stays level when cornering due to hydraulic fluid pumping to stiffen suspension, which eliminates roll. Called Active or Dynamic suspension.
They do corner well!
ACE, it’s active anti roll bars not the suspension as such.
Great video that shows how people convince themselves that these are good cars.

This was not maintained at all, they miss service for sure. Don’t buy one if you can’t afford it, and then talked about it.
You've invited all the know-nothing fools on here to comment .. . basically, they want a car that will roll along with little to no maintainance.
😂
It won’t cost you 3k a year to maintain it….. had mine 8 years no big problems just a big service every year £500 no issues
2016 FSH, no problems whatsoever in 2 years. Love the ride and cornering, can boot it or live in it .. Only thing I changed was the headlights to LED.
how the hell did you get that for 12k?
Exactly what I’m looking for! Let me know if you want to sell….
Going to Auction this week where it should fetch £13,500-£14,000. Yours for £13k if you wanted it
Can I ask is this sold as described in the video?
Yeh, would be sold as seen with all the problems mentioned lol. Not sure I’d recommend buying it 😅
I can see why you say that. Very difficult to find this spec, got a 20k budget too.
