Ok so having watched the rest of this video my advice is as follows; You shouldn’t have to disable keyless feature, keep your keys in a faraday pouch and away from your front door at home to stop them being able to scan the key code. 1 : Security: Fit a false OBD port, this will confuse the thief and to why he seems to have power but no connection to the actual computer to be able to do anything. If the original ticket price was more than £100k then it will have a factory fitted tracker which you can subscribe to and reactivate 👍🏻 2 : Get it remapped to stage 1, this will take away the hesitancy at junctions etc and improve fuel economy. Mine sits at 400bhp and 820 Nm of torque and on a good run can return 40mpg. It also does 0-62 in 5 secs flat leaving S3’s and Focus ST2’s in its wake 👍🏻😎 3: ACE/DSC - all V8 versions of RR L405 have Dynamic Stability Control Torque Vectoring. This is what keeps it flat thru the corners, as it monitors each wheel 500 times per second to provide the correct acceleration or braking at each corner as you progress. It is a hydraulic system and has reservoir under the bonnet on the right hand side with a yellow cap. Check that the lines aren’t corroded especially towards the rear as they are a bitch to replace as you do have to drop the rear subframe to route them through the chassis. 4: Get the gearbox serviced regardless that LR say its “sealed for life”. ZF recommend a service between 80-120k miles or at ten years old. Also at ten year anniversary get all the fluids changed including ACE, transaxle and the diff oils just as a preventative measure you will notice the difference even more. 5: Lastly common fault is the oil cooler gaskets, a lot of folk get the top one done but you actually need to change the bottom one too. The oil cooler sits in the “V” and will most likely leak coolant but you won’t see it because it evaporates off with heat of the engine so keep an eye on coolant level or maybe try find out if it’s already been done?? Ermmmm other things, check the boot as the top hatch tends to drop over time, check sunroof drains as they can cause lots of problems if not kept clear and if you have timed climate / parked heat then run it regular to prevent it clogging up or components seizing and be aware that it doesn’t run if fuel tank is less than a quarter full 👍🏻😎

They are phenomenal machines and you only ever hear about the bad ones, If you look after it it will never leave you stranded. I love mine too, I’m normally terrible with cars, I get bored after 18 months or two years but mine is awesome and I just can’t think of anything I would want to replace it with. Mines a one owner 2013 Autobiography and she was specced with everything on the options list except a towbar, which I’m not fussed about to be fair. Ticket price was £138k 😱 Often see adverts saying “fully loaded” blah blah but unless you have full leather headliner, rear massaging seats, self parking system, deployable steps, wooden steering wheel and wooden boot floor on top of everything else then it’s not in my eyes ha ha! There is an oil dilution problem but I think it affects those with AdBlue as when it does the regen but doesn’t complete the cycle it forces the fluid into the oil. Problem is that the digital oil level check only tells you when it’s at the max level with no indication of ”overfilled” due to the extra fluid so when you do an oil change you need to carefully check how much comes out ( capacity is 9.6 litres I think) and drain it from the bottom DON’T use the suction tube thingy 🙄 Enjoy mate 😎

I had a 2016 L405 SDV8 and loved it. When I bought it (from an Auction) I soon discovered a thud in the drive train - I thought I was phooked. However, I changed the transmission oil and filter and the thud was fixed. The only other problem I ever had was a leaking oil cooler unit that sits on top of the motor just under the firewall.

Lovely vehicle and great choice of colour and spec. All LR products get stolen easily. I had 3 balaclava clad toe rags come for my Discovery. They couldn’t as I relocated the OBD port. It’s the best mod I did! Please move yours, that’s how they get stolen….. they plug in and are driving away within a minute. If it’s removed and relocated (takes minutes) they will move on to an easier victim.
Pop a throttle box on it. Plug and play, solves the lag.
Safe driving & Health to enjoy 😊

Superb video (first time watcher here). Superb car. It's almost exactly the same spec as one I tried to buy last year, although that one blew up before the deal concluded. It's now had a new [reconditioned] engine now, so it's been offered to me again... but, after thoroughly researching the model, I'm super nervous about all the bad press about reliability and theft... especially so as I don't spend 100% of my time in the UK and I don't have a garage...
The main differences between yours and the one I've been offered is that you have the light leather interior (which I much prefer) rather than black, which makes it feel dark inside, and 'mine' has deployable sidesteps (which, it seems, are both good and bad...). I completely agree about piano black: I don't like the dark-brown wood effect, and some [rare] later models have a unpolished grey wood-effect, which is much better -- although face-lifted MY2018+ models are double the price of earlier 2013-2015 L405s and many don't say that their MY2018+ cars are an upgrade over earlier models!
Thanks for making the video. You've certainly got a brilliant looking car there and I do hope one day I get to experience positive ownership too. I do hope that you are blessed with long-term reliability (which seems to be a total crapshoot with any JLR model and engine, of any age and displacement) and that you've done enough to protect it from sticky-fingers (and I don't mean your kids'). Many owners seem to suggest that a Ghost immobiliser, physically relocating the OBD port, fitting a full steering wheel lock and locked driveway bollards or secure garage locks are all a necessity... which reflects very badly on the state of affairs in the UK...
For now, I'm resolved to keeping my discreet, uninteresting Volvo (which I blooming love, actually) until I can come to terms with the high price vs. risk of owning an L405. For now, I'll just derive my RR enjoyment vicariously by watching videos like yours! (Subscribed.)

The L405 has an anti yaw module under the centre console to stop the wallowing. Also, the L322 had twin turbos, the L405 has sequential turbos, so the acceleration is a lot softer at low speed. Totally different driving experience.

Mate I only watched two and a half minutes till the bit about the oil level sensor and my immediate advice is get a new independent specialist!! It should never cost nearly a grand, take 8 hrs labour and you definitely do not have to drop the subframe!!!! I had mine done at my local Indy and it cost me £186 parts and labour plus VAT and I watched them do it cos I had another issue with oil capacity being wrong from a dealer service but that’s a whole other story! I’ve had my L405 for more than four years now so if you want any advice or tips on how to keep on top of things then feel free to give me a shout 👍🏻😎
