Suspension is a "black art" I recently stiffened the compression & rebound damping on my T7 to settings recommended by an Enduro school that runs a fleet of them. Strangely enough that made the ride noticeably smoother on the road, which may be counter intuitive, but I guess it's all about allowing the tyres to follow the contours of the tarmac.

I'm enjoying the different series you have on this channel. The flying stuff brings back memories. I partly grew up in Oakley, a couple of miles from Basingstoke, but worked at the AA in Basingstoke, based at The Durie Centre. It has been a long time since I've lived in the UK, but the tower block you mention might be the old Fanum House which belonged to the AA for many years. Back when I worked at the AA the security used to let me go to the observation deck at the top of that tower, where I'd use my CB radio for half an hour. The signal could reach for miles! I did take my car and motorcycle tests in Basingstoke. The town is nicknamed doughnut city for all of its roundabouts.
Excellent! I too was a CB Radio fan back in 1981 (remember "CB/27/81"?) - I bet the signal banged out from there for miles - great in skip conditions....
@@TheMissendenFlyer I wasn't aware of CB/27/81 at the time. I just had a 40-channel (+ Mids) rig at home with an amplifier and subtle aerial on my roof, and a 40-channel handheld for walking around. Love what you said about Basingstoke, I never visited the town either and I lived in Reading for many years after moving from Beaconsfield. Now living in Lancashire
Loved it Andy that was brilliant your wife Carol is such a good passenger👌🏽 whether in the plane, or on the Honda Goldwing she is so laid back and cool, twas so lovely to watch the change from the plane to the Goldwing at Basingstoke.. absolutely brilliant combined video👌🏽👌🏽👏🏽👏🏽😁🙏🏽💙
Fab to see the new Wing out on a tour! Including Mrs Flyer as well, yes the Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum is really worth a 3 hour visit at least!! Great to see a Concorde up close, 102?, even if it is still full of all of the flight recording computers!! Plenty of other interesting flying machines - military mostly, too and a mimic of a Naval Flight deck on board an aircraft carrier, quite clever. Really glad we added it to our southern tour, used the A303... stayed at Exeter for the night. Then past Truro and out to the coast at St Agnes. From there we walked along the coastline from St Agnes to the Perranporth airfield!! Hope you did the reverse hike!!
Nice to see you on my local roads, you passed fairly close to my place. That tower block is home to the AA, the A34 Basingstoke to Reading is my daily commute, as for visiting, Basingstoke town center is much of a muchness , but Milestones living museum is worth a visit.
We live slightly further south from you (Epsom). My family are all in Somerset so I've had 30 Years of driving there and back. After the first year or 2 of using the A303 I refused to use it again. From our location I use the A3, A31 (very quiet), a bit of the A272 at around Petersfield and connect up to the A30 all the way down to the Somerset/Devon boarders. The A30 is a lovely road to ride/drive. Slower than the A303 unless its the summer holidays. Plenty of good pubs on the A30 for a lunch stop. You'll enjoy it 👍. Compton Abbas is only about 10 mins from the A30 south of Shaftesbury.
Bikes roads henge and planes aside 😉 perranporth and area... has a special place for us.... both daughters now in late 30s we spent many years going there back in the day....in fact did the 21st june this year lands end solstice sunset amazing ...nice one folks👌👌
Really enjoying these, thank you. Used to "commute" the A303 on my Norge from Suffolk to deepest Cornwall when my parents were alive...became VERY familiar with the road, good and bad, lol!
Not that day it wasn’t! If you watch the end of the previous video you will clearly here “runway in use is 26 left hand circuit” given by the A/G operator…..
Good decision A troubling glitch that Precludes a go-around Methinks its a fuel issue not electrical, and probably only at low rpm, but for peace of mind it needs sorting. No peace of mind always expecting the dreaded rev drop! Very fortunate to have Plan B and Wing it down to Peranporth.
That big tower block in basingstoke...The AA head quarters, if you get a chance to get to it, you will be able to the see the first AA motorcycle on display in the window (just behind the phone box) 👍🏻
I chuckled all the way through this one, every day humour and not a PC comment to be heard 🙏, what not to like. Damm I wish I had space for a Goldwing (not to mention money) as it the ultimate touring bike. Already looking forward to next Wednesdays episode.
Hay mate some years ago I done work with the British Army and stayed at Warminster? , just down the road from Stonehenge.fantastic to see . Great 👍 vid as per usual.
So cool! I work at Boscombe sometimes and the noise some of those planes make is incredible!! The fins built into the hangers to channel the “thrust” and noise out is crazy! Love working there. Another great video dude 🙌🏻🤙🏻
Great vid, TMF. I live in Basingstoke and can report good things. Definitely has the best shopping centre in the south, outside London. There is a big biker community here so you’re welcome to come along some time.
Another interesting trip for us viewers, albeit not as planned by you and Carol,….that tall building in Basingstoke is AA head office, ….Basingstoke born & bred for my sins!
Morning Andy really enjoying the air/bike mix😀 Although I’ve lived near Bournemouth for nearly 25 years was born and bred in Basingstoke. It’s grown massively since I lived there, famous for it’s roundabouts and I believe prior to the 1960s redevelopment had the highest number of pubs per capita in England. The tower block you pointed out is the HQ of the Automobile Association. Local legend is that it is the tallest building between Basingstoke and the East Coast of the USA!
There's a hotel at Church street in Amesbury, only a few stonethrows from Stonehenge, where the Beatles lived whilst recording the film "Help". Me and my son stayed there some years ago. We went to see the Battle of Hastings (in week 42), Dover castle, Stonehenge, Salisbury Chatedral and Bath. And all the bits between! A military museum not far from there....nice place!
Suspension preload set for two (gives you back your ride height/suspension travel) increase in damping for the extra weight stops it wallowing, plus the ride height (preload) will keep the steering geometry correct two up, MATZ Penetration will depend on how hard you squeeze your right hand 🫱 😎😁
(Very much enjoying this episode, the reduced risk to the TMF team is a big part of that!) The new Goldwing certainly is the perfect machine to film a road trip from. The A303 is a good choice over the motorway route, you certainly have some interesting scenery to talk about. Thanks for posting. I may well try that route myself and have a look about over there, when next in the UK.
My company had an office in Basingstoke that I occasionally used back in the ‘90s, we used to refer to it as Basingrad, we had a theory that a good night out in Basingstoke consisted of the holy trinity of a) a takeaway pizza, b) a mogadon and c) a Blockbuster video. Basingstoke hasn’t a huge amount going for it, it’s a soulless town of dual carriageways, Roundabouts and housing estates a bit like Milton Keynes. It has a decent shopping centre though. There are lots of nice villages dotted around the town which are lovely, Hampshire is a beautiful county with some fabulous bike riding roads which more than make up for the disappointing Basingrad.
Great video Mr Flyer, the might Goldwing to the rescue. it reminds me of the song I need hero. Well, your hero was the Holda Goldwing. I believe once been on back of a Goldwing people say like Mrs flyer that much difference beside the comfort level. Great scenery so well done on choosing the A roads. It sounds a bit American with the routes place like route 66. I look forward to the next one.
you must have done already but if you havent you need to do the Jurassic coastal road that start around Dorechester down to Westbay (westbeach) past bridport. amazing road and views
Another good flying video, TMF. I hope you continue to present these from time to time; they’re always interesting, especially all the radio stuff. Does Mrs Flyer ever fly the airplane? Seems like she’d by mighty good at it.
Reason the ride felt smoother on the two-up setting is the extra pre-load would have helped the dampers operate in a more optimum point in their travel, rather than the extremities of their movement. Good to see you're enjoying the new bike, it looks good!
If you went about another 3 miles further down on the 303 on the right you'll find the Otter Valley Farm shop good for food and ice cream. For a future reference. 👍
Hi Andy, had to add my 2c in (or should that be 2p?). I was a Commercial Pilot in the GA field for many years here in Australia. (WAS being the operative word...haven't flown for a number of years) I didn't jump straight in with a "you shouldn't have flown it" as clearly not all facts were disclosed, such as your phone call to the engineers. I actually had a similar experience once in a Cessna 182. Everything was all right with no indications of a problem until I came into land at at a very, shall we say..."Agricultural" airstrip for lunch. On pulling the throttle back to idle and touching down the big fan up front stopped! I fired it back up and did mag checks, fuel tank switches etc etc and EVERYTHING was fine except it wouldn't idle. So I parked up and we had lunch, where I telephoned the engineers to see what they could suggest. As they were very familiar with the particular aircraft (as was I) they suggested that I fly it back to base at MY discretion as trying to get a repair crew to my location was going to be a "B@tch". We were only about half-hour flying time to base so I decided to risk it, BUT..I TOOK NO PASSENGERS. Long story short, everything went ok. I kept the revs up a bit on landing and the fan didn't stop until I pulled idle in the parking area. Turned out to be a sticking Carb Float. My take on your tale (limited to the info provided) is that if I knew the problem existed BEFORE initial take off....I would not have accepted the aircraft. After finding the problem, while I risked MYSELF (To a minor degree, and with extensive experience and knowledge prior) I did not risk any passengers and certainly would not have risked the wife. (She would have killed me if a crash didn't. :) ) Other than that I enjoyed your videos, keep them coming! Flying in OZ WAS a great deal simpler than what appears the case in the UK. The stick & rudder stuff is of course all the same but the procedures and amount of physical traffic is certainly different.
Enjoying very much this video glad the plane landed without the engine dying when rolling out interesting about your first service at 600 miles you and I have owned about the same number of bikes which is to say far too many but here in the United States the Gold Wing has its first service at 4000 miles everybody argues about that all the time but you and I have exchange the oil at 600 miles in every bike we've ever owned but that really is strictly forbidden for the Gold Wing by the manufacturer I'm sure many don't pay attention to that I am this time and I hope I don't regret it the bike is amazing and I love that color you have I have the 22 in black can't wait for the next installment have a marvelous weekend the best to your entire family, always
Very enjoyable vlog. I used to live in Hook until last December (now Martock, Somerset) and so visited Basingstoke often. Much maligned but for me, a reasonable place with pretty much everything one needs although I would perhaps not make a special visit 🙂The big negative for it in my view is the huge amount of house building going on, sadly for the most part, on 'green fields'.
Just thought I’d mention this and had to look back at your last installment of Belgian excursion. What ever you did to the suspension on the new wing, I noticed the camera being a lot more stable. Your old Gold Wing was more bouncy on roads that were impeccable in Belgium, so had to be the suspension setting.

@@TheMissendenFlyer That's because you get to go in the "posh" bit because you flew in 🤣😉
4:31 😂 We've all had that look from our better halves after a comment like that.👍
Love what you said about Basingstoke, I never visited the town either and I lived in Reading for many years after moving from Beaconsfield. Now living in Lancashire
I think I choose Beaconsfield 🤓
Loved it Andy that was brilliant your wife Carol is such a good passenger👌🏽 whether in the plane, or on the Honda Goldwing she is so laid back and cool, twas so lovely to watch the change from the plane to the Goldwing at Basingstoke.. absolutely brilliant combined video👌🏽👌🏽👏🏽👏🏽😁🙏🏽💙
Really glad you enjoyed it Stan….
The moment you stopped at the Route 303 diner… I was thinking it might not work out well! One visit is usually enough at that place.
😆
Mesh clothing is really fantastic👌
You’ll recognise bits in the next video!
Nice to see you on my local roads, you passed fairly close to my place. That tower block is home to the AA, the A34 Basingstoke to Reading is my daily commute, as for visiting, Basingstoke town center is much of a muchness , but Milestones living museum is worth a visit.
I think I might have to drop by someday to get a tick in the box….
Sounds good to me!
Bikes roads henge and planes aside 😉 perranporth and area... has a special place for us.... both daughters now in late 30s we spent many years going there back in the day....in fact did the 21st june this year lands end solstice sunset amazing ...nice one folks👌👌
Excellent video! Great job Mate! Keep up the good work! Cheerio
Cheers Steve!
Comments about Advanced riders, tabards and real ale required a hefty back-peddle there LOL. Love the 303, always a good view (traffic permitting).
Yes, a risky business going down that conversational route!
Great ,really liked , guess Its all about the co-ordination of the whole trip ,👍👍
Indeed it is - lots of planets to align….
Really enjoying these, thank you. Used to "commute" the A303 on my Norge from Suffolk to deepest Cornwall when my parents were alive...became VERY familiar with the road, good and bad, lol!
Great video as always I love the aviation motorcycle mix, note runway 26 at Compton is right hand circuit!
Cool!
I chuckled all the way through this one, every day humour and not a PC comment to be heard 🙏, what not to like. Damm I wish I had space for a Goldwing (not to mention money) as it the ultimate touring bike. Already looking forward to next Wednesdays episode.
Thank you and stay tuned!
I love flying into EGHA too. Happy flying.
Hay mate some years ago I done work with the British Army and stayed at Warminster? , just down the road from Stonehenge.fantastic to see . Great 👍 vid as per usual.
As a OAP i really enjoyed flying with you both very nice and loved the comantry
Good to hear!
What a way to spend a sunny day! I’d absolutely love to have been in one of those passenger seats ❤️😎
So cool! I work at Boscombe sometimes and the noise some of those planes make is incredible!! The fins built into the hangers to channel the “thrust” and noise out is crazy! Love working there. Another great video dude 🙌🏻🤙🏻
Thanks
Great vid, TMF. I live in Basingstoke and can report good things. Definitely has the best shopping centre in the south, outside London. There is a big biker community here so you’re welcome to come along some time.
Yes I must come and check it out sometime…
Awesome video TMF - for info Army HQ is at Andover, not wallop.
Oops - thanks for the clarification (did I say it was HQ then??)….
@@TheMissendenFlyer yes but no issue - I just didn’t want those AAC boys to get an even bigger ego 😜 #ServiceBanter
A great watch guys. The double act format is worth developing, perhaps?
Cheers Phil!
Probably true!
Cool!
Welcome down to the southwest 😀goldwing looks stunning looking forward to part 3 👍
Thanks for another great video. Really useful as I'm flying my old man to Compton Abbas from Halton in the next couple of weeks!
Good luck spotting the field! Enjoy the flight…
Love this looking forward to the next episode...Numpty boy lol lol
Amazingstoke is worth a look .. the big building you pointed out is that AA building and Popham airfield is a good biker cafe and ride 👍
Yes Ive been to Popham many times (though only by air)….
Thanks for watching and for stopping by!
Enjoyed the content as usual, looking forward to next episode.
I defo think I need to investigate further….
Stay tuned Dennis coming on Wednesday.
Absolutely fantastic vid Andy but can I ask why do we not have any coms on the wing from Mrs Flyer
Too hard to do technically….
@@TheMissendenFlyer have a word with your mate Bruce
Is beautiful countryside there for sure. 😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦
Very interesting to learn that aviation radio chatter is extremely innuendo heavy.
Sure is!
you must have done already but if you havent you need to do the Jurassic coastal road that start around Dorechester down to Westbay (westbeach) past bridport. amazing road and views
Great video .thanks alot
Cant wait for Perranporth its so cute
Great vid Andy. Nice to see a flying vid again although I’d have been tempted to leave it in the field and get the bus back! 😂😂
Another good flying video, TMF. I hope you continue to present these from time to time; they’re always interesting, especially all the radio stuff. Does Mrs Flyer ever fly the airplane? Seems like she’d by mighty good at it.
Thanks - glad you like them! And no, no interest in learning to fly M’fraid….
Yeovilton air museum is well worth a visit, especially the flight deck
Yes I must get there some day! So close yet so far!!
Another great episode 👍
15:56 it's a bunch of stones from a prehistoric pissing contest...mistery solved xD
Reason the ride felt smoother on the two-up setting is the extra pre-load would have helped the dampers operate in a more optimum point in their travel, rather than the extremities of their movement.
Good to see you're enjoying the new bike, it looks good!
Yes I reckon you’re right there….
If you went about another 3 miles further down on the 303 on the right you'll find the Otter Valley Farm shop good for food and ice cream. For a future reference. 👍
Sounds like my type of place!
Other than that I enjoyed your videos, keep them coming! Flying in OZ WAS a great deal simpler than what appears the case in the UK. The stick & rudder stuff is of course all the same but the procedures and amount of physical traffic is certainly different.
Love these aviation videos
The bbc has some excellent documentaries about Stonehenge and its purposes.
Enjoying very much this video
glad the plane landed without the engine dying when rolling out
interesting about your first service at 600 miles
you and I have owned about the same number of bikes which is to say far too many
but here in the United States the Gold Wing has its first service at 4000 miles
everybody argues about that all the time but
you and I have exchange the oil at 600 miles in every bike we've ever owned
but that really is strictly forbidden for the Gold Wing by the manufacturer
I'm sure many don't pay attention to that
I am this time and I hope I don't regret it
the bike is amazing and I love that color you have
I have the 22 in black
can't wait for the next installment
have a marvelous weekend
the best to your entire family, always
Thank you Greg!
Your old Gold Wing was more bouncy on roads that were impeccable in Belgium, so had to be the suspension
setting.
Could be - that or my new GoPro 10 camera stabilisation setting….??
@@TheMissendenFlyer If I were as close as you are with that electric blue intercontinental ballistic missile Gold wing; I’d be riding around Western France checking The Maritimes of France. Western France is a motorcycle Mecca, Food is amazing, they don’t
speak English why would they?
Andy your making me home sick ! Stonehenge area is home to me! I know that road well and I remember crashing my GS 1,000 Suzuki on the A303 when I came down the slip road from Andover to find oil or chemical on the road the police said all over the outside lane dodgy time but really miss it as we only get down once a year now from the dreaded north where I now live reluctantly so much better down that end .The wing is looking amazing love that electric blue colour she looks mighty fine .👌👍
Yes, the colour is growing on me.
This is great stuff ... so much better than Health & Safety motoring vlogs.
I'll get my coat . . . 🤭
