What a beast. It’s disappointing when the garage do half a job taking into consideration that they knew what they had to do in advance.

  • @chrisdagnall8666
    @chrisdagnall8666 ปีที่แล้ว +38

Once again you have the ability to stay clam and positive when faced with disappointment, to be fair I would have only been slightly annoyed as I have low expectations for service so not to be disappointed. I think the real problem here is that a large manufacturer with a premium bike should be able to make the on board satnav work properly, it’s not as if they have just been invented, and you shouldn’t need to do a merry dance to get it paired up. I think for a winter tour you should head north not south 😉😉

I feel exactly the same way. No matter how creepy life gets, if I can get out on my GW for at least a short runabout, life looks better when I’m underway and after I get back to the house to confront what’s waiting for me.
Mine is my everyday bike too. Nothing it can’t do. I don’t have the Honda SatNav so I added a Zumo and it really helps since I moved again and finding everything is an adventure.

  • @rexchan8
    @rexchan8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

I hate that feeling too when you’ve waited so long to get it done and it falls short of expectations even after giving them the whole day to do it. I’d look elsewhere who may be more competent with installation.

Another great video, thank you! I had the opposite experience at the first service for my Multistrada a few weeks ago; work was completed ahead of schedule, accessories were fitted, I received a video made by the technician of the work she had done on the bike, and all the settings were still as I had got it set up to my liking. Great service, I thought, when I was a bit unsure of their reputation. I did have to pay for it, but even that was not as expensive as I feared it might be. And the sun was shining so I had a lovely ride home on my now derestricted beast 😀

Love this video, great commentary as always. To be fair though how much of a hassle is it to screw on a ball mount fitting? Better for you to have the foot boards, which I guess you hadn’t pre booked, fitted and run out of time than the other way round. Speaking as a former garage owner who got this all the time.

Ahh well you and me both. I washed and polished my Suzuki GSX-S1000F yesterday in prep for todays run and bugger if the creeks didn't come up after the storms we had Thursday night. It's flat plains round here so it doesn't take much for runoff to cause minor flooding and well it did so I had to ride through flood water this morning. Also got to pick up my 120th Triumph Anniversary tee shirts. So thanks Triumph.

Since purchasing my T7 I have been trying to do as much work on it myself as I can (I rather enjoy it too) - specifically for the the reason you encountered: every time I have taken my bike in to the dealership - even for minor service - they never seem to install things correctly (I look at what they did and find myself saying - "I could have done that better" - so now I just do. ;)

You booked an appointment... agreed in advance the work required from dealer... and then dealer let you down on their promise to complete the work to the agreed timescale. You are quiet right to feel let down. You are not being particular at all as others mention here.. You simply expected to get an excellent service from the dealer... and they failed to meet their promise to you. I hate complaining but poor service should be called out for what it is.... or else the dealer will never know they need to take steps to ensure your experience on the day is not repeated with other customers.

I installed a TomTom Ryder GPS on my R1200GS and I am very happy with it. It works out fantastic routes for me and I am re-discovering Sweden with all the interesting and exciting routes it gives me.
Installation was easy as BMW has auxiliary Can-Bus plugs that you can use. All I had to do was buy a male plug and solder it on to the power cable that comes with the GPS, plug it in, route the wires, and mount the GPS bracket.
Now the GPS comes on with the ignition and switches off about a minute after the bike has been turned off.
The App works ok but not all the time. (Android)
So working out a route indoors on the phone and it sends it to the GPS as soon as you turn on the bike saves a lot of fiddling with the unit once on the bike.
Overall very happy with the Tom Tom and it's waterproof, I don't even take it off when I wash the bike with a high pressure cleaner!

FYI if you’re using Car Play and stopping for gas (short stop) turn the ignition knob once to the right and the engine stops but all the electronics stay powered up. When done one more twist to the right on the ignition knob and start the engine. I agree the sequence required to get car play working is cumbersome but it does work pretty well once you figure out all the quirks. I would not like my phone in the boot and I don’t desire an air bag but probably would be good in a front collision.

I have a 21 Road Glide Limited and had a similar situation with where I wanted to mount my phone. I ended up routing a long iPhone cable from the plug, thru the fairing and up the handle bar to where I want my phone.
You can do something very similar; route a long cable from your top box, underneaths the seat, gas tank, fairing and up your handle bar to always have the cable there ready 👍

Yes it is worth considering for sure....just the vibration issue, I already trashed one expensive iPhone camera thanks to a quadlock....I'm loathe to trust their "anti vibration" mount and risk it again...

Recently acquired a Tom Tom, which I hard wired into the Ducati, and with a second Ram mount and a small battery pack run on the MT10, there was a thought to using apps on the phone but can't beat the real deal and with being transferable a great buy. Imagine that CB1000 nice. Cheers Andy

That is such a beautiful bike. Now to the “running out of time and an incomplete service ticket”. Absolutely not unreasonable to be hankered. It’s unacceptable. Is there any person to speak with up the food chain that could you can speak that would amount to a hill of beans? Or write a shop review. In any event, I have this same bike, a 22 Ultra Blue DCT Tour Airbag. Absolutely smitten! The DCT is a game changer. Brilliant. The bike is very commutable within town for me. People are always looking at this beauty. Color-way is unique too. Only produced in 2022. Good stuff Missenden.

Great video as always, sir. There are the Goldwing Tour versions without the airbag, leaving you with a bit of a glove box. I too had some mild difficulties hooking up the Apple Car Play each time. Oddly enough, as soon as I purchased my new iPhone 15, along s with a new charging cable, it works completely seamlessly.

Beautiful and purposeful bike! Can understand your disappointment as a decent garage would have informed their customer whether or not there was time for the non scheduled work and would have found a solution to avoid the disappointment faced at collection. At least it is a simple job to complete at home in half an hour and I hope there was a reduction in labour as garages have a book time that dictates the cost for full job regardless as to how long it takes.

Good chat, as ever. Whether it is just HSB, or universal approach by workshops, I used them twice and then went elsewhere. Customer satisfaction didn’t ever seem a high priority. Perhaps a captive audience. Fair to say, in most of our working lives, ‘running out of time’ wouldn’t swing it if you want to be paid or have repeat business!

I have found that no built- in satellite navigation systems work well, even on very modern vehicles. I go for a separate system every time, although I think, having tried both, that neither TomTom nor Garmin can compete with a good satellite navigation system on an old phone mounted as high as possible into the normal vision area (usually well above the handlebars).

Lovely bikes the 'Wings, came very very close to purchasing a new one this summer but like you Mr Flyer, I too have a GS and its absolutely all the bike I really need (apart from the several others I still own 🙂). I am still not totally sold that the biggest Honda is actually "convincingly" worth the price if I am totally honest... it should be absolutely spot on with after sales service to match and I don't believe it is. Still a mighty impressive machine though 👍

I have owned 2 GW's, and what machines they are. However, for me they are not the type of bike I could live with as an 'only bike'.
Rather disappointed at your dealer experience, especially as they must surely be aware of your huge following on YT.
Can highly recommend a winter tour. I have been to the north of Scotland in mid-winter and it was hugely enjoyable.

You should definitely expect better from the main stealers, especially a man of your power and Influence. If I spunked 30k on a bike I'd want the sat nav the bike shouldn't need for free. I'm in the market for a sat nav. I'm leaning towards the Garmin zumo. Apparently it tells you the sharpness of the bends coming up and has Calimoto type features on it.

Regarding shutting down for gas stops -- After turning the engine off, put the bike into "accessory mode". This will enable you to keep all of your connections live, including Android Auto, or Apple Car Play. If you need to go inside the convenience store, I am not sure if someone could steal the bike while in accessory mode without the key fob. I usually turn mine completely off if I have to leave the bike.
Regarding air bag models - This was always an option in the US prior to 2022. You can still get the front compartment with the USB connection if you don't order the air bag model.
I have about 18,000 miles on my 2021 standard Gold Wing. It's been a great bike so far - handles great on twisty's due to the low center of gravity, and is very comfortable for long haul trips.

    Great vid as always…
I always seem to have this problem with service providers and them getting a bad review when they don’t do what they say they would do. For me a 5 star system works as follows:
1 star: piss poor complete disaster
2 star: you didn’t do what you said you would do, but what you did was ok.
3 star: you did everything you said you would do, at a reasonable standard.
4 star: you did all that you said you would do very well.
5 star: you did all you said you would do well, and something above and beyond.
So no I don’t think you are being unreasonable at all. Service providers seem to thing it’s ok to be mediocre and claim they are amazing…
    Nice video, as always

On my Goldwing 2021 Tour DCT bike you can quickly turn the start/stop off and on by repressing the big red start button whilst the bike is running - treating it as a toggle switch for the start/stop function.

There should of been plenty of time to complete the work however they took on the additional job of installing the footboards, how many other adhoc jobs do they take on to keep customers happy. In all fairness the work has been done with the satnav mount, the remainder of it is just to mount it which the majority of people would do when they go out depending on whether they need it or not. Probably a bit too critical as felling a bit off on this day.

Andy, if your wing was with them 7 hours, how long does a 1st service take? 2 hours? Sounds a bit shoddy they ran out of time for your sat navigation installation???
