5 Must Do Mods/Upgrades For The Alienware Aurora R10/R11/R12

  • Virtually all of these mods/upgrades are related to heat management and the cooling of the handsome but not well ventilated case. These are all mods that I myself have done and noticed a difference in performance and consistency. The tutorials for all these installs are linked below, with any products used linked in those videos. If you have any questions feel free to ask me or the community of R series owners here at Gamer Heaven, and enjoy your AC PC. They truly are great pre-builts and the cooling is the only downside I can see, but we are fixing that one mod at a time.

    Bought the same pc from eBay without a gpu did the mods . Upgraded AIO corsair H60 worked great ; Found the VRM coolers on Amazon that work out great . Installed upgraded ram corsair vengeance lpx 3200mhz . My model is Alienware R10 with the Ryzen 5600X also upgraded the NV Me with a Samsung 970 evo. As for the GPU I installed the Asus Dual 6700xt OC .Had to remove the small 45 degree stiffer on the bottom of the swing arm or power supply bracket to make the supply bracket close. After doing that I was able to replace my side cover .The GPU I ordered is larger than the stock GPU sold by Dell . Mod was pretty easy to perform just get a Dremel tool and drill out the rivets holding the 45 degree stiffer . Make sure to remove the power supply don't want to drill into and damaging. Paid 500 for the tower on eBay and 900 for the GPU I guess scalper price .So far so good with the rebuild , PC is fully functioning . Good performance plays my games without skipping a beat .The front of the case looks pretty cool gets a lot of attention from the family .This product from Dell could of been perfect if the case was a tab bit bigger to fit regular sized parts . Get rid of that swing power supply cradle which I think they have on the new models they sell on the web site . Make them that people can keep them going without modifying the freak out of them . Sell the parts in abundance so the customer of their shit can do their own repairs .Well I had fun rebuilding this computer . Thanks .

    So I did a little testing on my R10 Ryzen edition. I got 4 Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM fans and did the upgrades and used thermal grizzly paste. Some of the things I've noticed from the two stock fans. The Noctua was very very quiet. However the temps were not vastly better. So I decided to try the stock fans again and repasted when I pulled the cooler off etc. So the fans are A LOT louder, however the temps actually came down with the two stock fans and the 3rd Noctua that was were the 3.5 bay was. So I started looking into it. The Noctua would only spin up to about 1800 rpm and pushed like ~80-90 cfm. The stock front fan spins up to 4k rpm and pushes like 130-140 cfm. That was crazy how much more air it pushed when it went 100%. Now the top fan... that bad boy is something else. It's a durn server fan. also has a 4k+ speed on it and pushes about 3 times the air that the Noctua pushed out and it is also a (high pressure) design. So really the Noctua setup (along with the setup used in this video) would be better for quieter operation and similar temps. The stock stuff is good for temps but horrible for noise. I would 100% recommend putting that 3rd fan in the front, and also using some quality thermal paste on the CPU and if using the 3000 series Nvidia cards, doing the paste and pads on it as well. Cheers and Thanks for the video.

      Dude thanks for the info! I am getting my replacement unit soon, I originally had air-cooling and it was loud and hot as hell.
      So I think I'll take your advice of leaving the server fans and adding a new fan.
      Just a question though, included in my replacement is a 512ssd and a 2tb HDD, is there anywhere to move the HDD if I want to add the 3rd fan?

    We just received a new R12 purchased during Black Friday at a substantial discount. The system is an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11700F, RTX 3060Ti, 512GB M.2, 16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 3200MHz all of this for only $980 (without tax) with discounts! This was an insane deal. Unfortunately, the water-cooled option was not available for the system deal. We have the Dark Side of the Moon cool which does not have the same lighting options as the White system. This is fine as the system would be positioned such that the lights would not be seen. The system looks good but like many have mentioned it has cooling issues. We have the system raised on a mesh stand with plenty of room for cooling. We first noticed the fans making a clicking noise while idling! I checked to make sure all fans are working and they are. We completed all updates and with nothing running while on idle the system CPU keeps jumping from 62° to 100° Celsius while the CPU performance is bouncing around the lowest to the highest. This is occurring while the system is idling without anything installed yet and no overclocking! Not a good omen. Also noticed there are no VRM heatsinks installed on this unit which could account for some of the CPU heat. The stock CPU fan is anemic. The interior design is small and will not fit a stock RTX card if you wanted to upgrade it. It is not a system to upgrade over time but again at the $980 price point, I didn't care. If we could have purchased a water-cooled system at the reduced price point we would have and I believe the design hinders the ability of the system to adequately air cool it. It is noisy when it kicks in cooling. What is surprising we were running a Lenovo Legion 7i notebook on the desk with a docking station (10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10750H Processor, NVIDIA RTX2070 Max-Q) at full settings in games and couldn't hear it but the R12 is like a fan running on high! Again we are so disappointed and will go back to using the Legion 7i. We could do your recommendations but it is not worth our time or effort. Thanks for your suggestions.

    I purchased their R11 with every upgrade offered (3090, 128 gb RAM, water-cooled, etc.), and was able to talk to their customer service to get a personal quote. Doing this brought the price down from $5200 to $3900, which I was much more comfortable with. Consider talking to their customer service, especially if you are not as "quick on the draw" during a sale.

  • @nicholasxayasith55
    @nicholasxayasith55 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a good service offering up ideas and solutions to other Aurora case owners... But if I'm completely honest about it - most of these wouldn't even be an issue worth tackling if the cases had proper airflow to begin with. Newer CPUs and GPUs for 2021 with higher wattage requirements have only further proven the restrictiveness of these cases in that regard. Once you move upward from the lowest stock processor and graphics card offered, watercooling becomes your only option to effectively lower temperatures... which kind of sucks because it's more complexity crammed into an already surprisingly small internal case volume. Also: some of us don't like or want watercooling, but you're SOL on that with these cases.
    If you really want to throw some more money in the pursuit of getting more air flowing around inside your case, may I suggest buying a modular SFX PSU and mounting it in the space. Its smaller size takes up less volume, you can minimize cables to just what you need. Cut some added holes around the PSU cradle... May as well eek out as much flow as possible now that the physically larger old PSU is no longer taking up room. I went with adding a 4-pin forward intake fan as well, and am using an M.2 SSD and lower-mounted SATA SSDs to get rid of the standard hard drive outright.
    Keep up the excellent tips suggestions - I'm sure other owners are happily digesting these!
