    Myth 11 - you need a front mount intercooler on a WRX to make over 300bhp. Myth 12 - you can't make 300+ on a TD04, Myth 13 - you "need" a Perrin silicone intake pipe and Ecutek to map a newage wrx Ecu (Scabby Colonic). I think part of the Facebook problem is the sheep mentality. Things spread faster and wider than the old Forum days, so it doesn't take long for bad advice to become mainstream. Would be good to do a round up of good/bad/not required mods, like intake pipes, chav valves, intercoolers (wrx/sti/fmic), exhaust side (2.5 vs 3"), fuel pump/injector size and limits, options on stock ecu's vs aftermarket. 👌👌

      A front mount is "advised" because if you're planning to push 350+ whp youre going to start seeing heat issues and instead of buying a top-of-the-line TMIC that is capable of 400+ people are planning ahead and getting a FMIC to combat heating. I dropped my driving Temps by roughly 10-20F just from the FMIC. heat soak is a real problem with subarus. Are they needed? No. And yes it is true the stock WRX turbo can handle 300+. I am using stock turbo @ 382whp on 92 octane @ 19-22 lbs of boost.

    Bah! My 2006 STi (EJ257) has been very reliable, has never left me stranded, the only downtime it has seen is just because of wear and tear parts that I’ve had to replace. No headgasket problems, no ringland issues, you just have to take care of them, tune for your parts and not drive like a lunatic all the time.

    So many more people need to see this video. I don't know how many times I have had to tell people many of these things. Especially on the vent to atmosphere BOV. An reliability. Of all cars I have owned, only ONE has not lived up to the tried and true saying of "Take care of the car and it will take care of you." An that was my R56 Mini Cooper S. But that's another story 😅. Myth number 7 and 10, do you remember my 1 owner, 241,000 mile Hawkeye with the "chocolate" 2.5 engine? You mapped it at 238,000 on a TD04, then 241k on a VF24. It did another 40,000 miles before someone did a rebuild, purely due to age/miles.

    Myth 11- All Subaru models suffer from headgasket problems.
    - Nope, that’s an old sohc naturally aspirated model 2.5 problem that got stigmatized to everything Subaru. The old n/a 2.5 engine that Subaru used in various models had a defect in the materials used to made the headgaskets which made them prone to failing. The fix? Using the oem turbo model’s factory Multilayer Steel gaskets. Can they blow up too? Sure, with enough abuse, overboosting and heat it is very possible…just like with any other car.

    Good vid that, I’ve learned a lot there. I miss the old forum days as most the info was good, I’ve given up with the rubbish on FB 😂. As for the last myth I had my hatch STI let go at about 70k, not modified, that required a £6k rebuild but it hasn’t put me off the 2.5 as I think it’s the best all round drive compared to every other scooby engine, here come the import comments about equal this and twin scroll that, but it’s just my opinion hence I now have a FOZ STI that has got forged piston, oil pick up etc and I absolutely love it

      Hi Dan.. Thank you 🙏😊
      All the good stuff is harmful as a rule.. and holding on launch control for a prolonged time is definitely not 'good' for it as heat builds up in headers and turbo and there is no airflow to the intercooler.
      A short burst to show off though shouldn't cause too many issues depending how severe the launch control is 👍

    • @racedynamix
      @racedynamix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jordan. Unless your vta is leaking or you are replacing a dump valve that was leaking and Tuned around with one that isn't leaking now, there will be no difference in fueling on boost. The only difference is a noise when lifting off and a slight enrichment when you put your foot back down because you have vented some metered air that the ecu has calculated needs some fuel to go with it. I would say it is fine.. But data log what is going on or get your tuner to check to be 100% sure

    So I can fit a dump valve to my 2017 sti without a map not sure it would run so great in my experience but a dual one that partially vents and recirculates should be ok thanks for the info

    • @racedynamix
      @racedynamix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will not change anything about fueling, boost or ignition timing requirements unless that dump valve is leaking.. It just creates a noise.
      Obviously, as explained in the video, the only difference is at that instant you put your foot back down on the throttle where, because you have dumped metered air, it will run momentarily a bit richer.. A mapper cannot map that out without negative impacts elsewhere in the map on transient throttle response.
      Thanks for the comment 🙏

    For the newer BRZ 22 what mods do you recommend if I plan to autox and maybe track day it to protect the engine?

    • @racedynamix
      @racedynamix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jordan. Nothing specific for the brz I am afraid but generally there are 4 issues to solve for track days..
      1. Oil surge. The Subaru sump isn't great for cornering, it is better with the later versions though. It is expensive to solve this but probably the best idea is just to monitor via a gauge and check levels continually during the day.
      2. Fuel surge. I am not familiar with the fuel tank set up on that car but all other subarus have the fuel pick up on the rhs of the tank and most tracks are clockwise so naturally dragging fuel away from the pump. Keep it topped up to reduce this risk.
      3. Heat. Both coolant and oil should be checked I would say after each session to make sure levels aren't dropping and aim modifications at reducing temps.
      4. Brakes. They can overheat on cheap pads (or std) and cause judder as the pad binding resin leeches onto the disks. Some proper pads and braided brake lines should solve this.
      I hope this helps.. Have fun 😎

      Tricky one that. Because the aluminium blocks wiggle a bit they will eventually fret away anyway but many things can make that happen earlier such as increased cylinder pressure from extreme detonation spikes or running high power. But a head gasket change isn't that big a deal nor refreshing bearings before they actually go ie at hg change time. It's the cost when big ends do go that is the killer with new crank, oil pump, modine, sump, rods etc
