More than 8 year later, this is still the guide that has the most impact on the game. . Maybe the double Archon start pact had the same impact on playing population, but due to so few people still plays in 2019, this is still the most important build ever in history of diablo 3.
Didn't think about it like that but I see how that can be confusing now, if I understand you correctly :-O. Sprint is a "manual" skill. You have to right click (once, and don't keep it pressed down) to activate it, then run around like you normally would, with left click (or better : spacebar), except you'll be faster and tornadoes will spawn behind you. So you right click once every 4 seconds, and the rest of the time you have to run around (or in a straight line at first to see how it works)!
Since you reflect part of the damage when Overpower is on, it counts as you hitting an enemy, everytime you get hit by anything. And you don't take the 30% you reflect either (ie. it reduces incoming damage by 30%), so it's a pretty amazing skill for survivability. :)
There's multiple ways (explained in the Basics guide) like : - Use Overpower, crits can give you 15 fury. - Hit an enemy twice with basic attack before starting, ~+10 fury. - Get hit 1-2 times.
If you have Wrath of the Berserker up, you're immune to Fear too. But it can be hard keeping it up vs kiters, especially shielding! Stop WW before your fury get too low (keeping enough for Sprint). Having a good DPS help a lot, I manage to kill them with WotB still on, but it feels like if the fights were longer I'd lose it. You can also try getting some Cold Damage on one of your weapon. Your WW will snare enemies (and Sprint too if it's your mainhand), awesome vs kiters. Or run away! ^^
It's not needed but allow you to survive with less armor/res and makes keeping WotB up easier. With more AS, each tornado hit an higher number of times per use, so you get more chances to generate fury and more healing from LoH. Having 1.5attack/second is enough.
thanks for the awesome explanation one question, how do you deal with shielding nightmarish caster mobs? i can't seem to constantly keep up enough fury with the combination of them running away from my RLTW and fearing me. i'm using the overpower build
-using overpower, not dependable, its a chance of a chance -basic attack so im assuming your pressing left mouse click for whirlwind to use the basic attack so you have a good chance of accidentally spending it using whirlwind -sometimes that's not an option and you need stuff rolling from the start(which is why i asked)
@ Croton. End bosses are rather large and as you spin/sprint around them the tornadoes you drop off all are within reach of the boss. End bosses are actually easier than elite packs. Just more HP
Hi Dino, I was trying this build after watching this video. The problem I have is with the start of the fight when you have zero Fury. I can activate War Cry to gain 30, then trigger Sprint, but the Fury takes some time to build up before I can activate Whirlwind or go Berserker. Then if Fury runs out, and War Cry is on cooldown, I have problems regenerating Fury given no basic attack to gain it. Any tips on that?
Yeah, tornadoes and WW both hit more often (and for an higher total number of times per cast for tornadoes!) so attack speed is very important. If you switch the ring, your tornadoes will hit less often, so your LoH will proc less often, which mean you may not be able to tank some packs anymore. Use caution. :P
Thanks for the reply. Does LoH trigger when you get hit as well as when you hit a mob? Or is it just one? Or is it just the ground effects that count as me hitting a mob? I'd assumed LoH only triggered when I hit an enemy. PS. This guide is both more fun and more effective than the tank-y guide I'd been using since Act3 Hell. Thanks for posting this - and the gear buying guide!
Yeah, they are the hardest enemies with this variant. :-P I used to just skip them and kill champion packs instead for more loot, but once you hit ~25-30k dps (unbuffed) they become doable. Get a few monsters to follow you before engaging and you'll get fury while you run after the goblin and they get hit by the tornadoes you leave behind. Plus I noticed recently that with a cold weapon the goblin can't really move when you spin on him, so it might even be possible with 20k dps.
Which skill generates fury? And does it only generate fury when it crits? I'm sorry if you've already answered this kind of question but I'm trying this build today and I was wondering why I wasn't generating any fury.
Dino, thanks for all your post. I want to ask you, is your gear and build viable for 4 man coop inferno? because my dw ww barb has a little less gear than you, but i can solo inferno, but cant survive in 4 man coop in act 3 and above
K. Thx for the tip on changing my skills around. Works out nice. New issue. Even if i'm at 100% fury, when I right-click the mouse for Sprint, it takes the fury and does some sort of movement with my barb's axe, but i don't sprint. I've tried this alone and in battle. Essentially, like somebody else said, my fury drains almost instantly and I never sprint. Any ideas?
Bash if you have trouble generating fury, overpower if you are ok with fury regen. Getting hit generates fury, leap in to enemy also generates fury or frenzy and bash
How do you get your skills to look like that? I can't have battle rage and war cry at the same time, nor can I move whirlwind or anything to the primary/secondary clicks. I just grabbed all of my equipment to try this but my skills aren't going to work. I'm stuck with the Bash/Rend/Frenzy choice. Help!
i figured out why it happens. maybe you can do a video about it since i'm sure a lot of people are experiencing the bug. it happens when you have your game in full screen. if you take it to fullscreen windowed, it will not happen anymore. it has to do with having a separate key assigned to "Move" - when you click move and you're WWing at the same time it will disconnect you. it's an abrupt disconnection and hundreds of people have reported it.
At the end of this video you mentioned to tell us the possible replacement for overpower (since the new patch is out, its life on hit procs doesnt work) and some passive (nerves of steal 100% armor bonus when I have 5k armor without it; or ruthless when I have enough critical chance on Helm). I couldnt find that video, if there is any, where you give us some other possible replacement for mentioned skills. Thanks dino
thanks, another thing, what do you think is the minimum LoH? as of now i have 1600 Loh, and planning to get a attack speed ring, which ill sacrifice 150 LoH...is 1300-1400 LoH enough?
Hi there DiNo! I really like this build and this build helped me farm out A3A4 easily! Thank you for inventing this great build! Got a question on the attack speed. Does the tornado I leave spins faster and my WW spins faster when my attack speed is faster? and im currently gearing two rings with 80 Streng+ 3 cri chance+ 6 attack speed each. Do you think its better to get a 140 + strengh 3.5 crit + 60 Vatality instead? thank you very much!
hey dino, its me again. i would like to ask you that which rune do you prefer personally, thrive on chaos or slaughter? in the other video of yours, you said slaughter rune would boost the damage 10 times more but its less reliable. i still cant decide which one i should pick. damage boost would means greater fun, but it also could make me die more often. a very hard multiple choice question for me haha
Sprint generate most of the fury, thanks to Battle Rage/Into the Fray (so you need to have that on). It only generates fury when it crit, and even then, only 20% of the time. (But each Sprint can hit one monster over 60 times)
(Example/Fake numbers) Those effect hit fast, but for low damage, like 100 damage but 50 times/s. Each tick is 30% reflected to the caster by Overpower/Crushing Advance, which is considered a hit, trigerring the Life on Hit, and healing me for 33% of my LoH (which is 600). So with each tick, I lose 70HP and immediately get healed for 600. :)
You gotta use Battle Rage before using Sprint or it won't generate fury, so the order is : (Optional : 2 basic attacks with left click), War Cry, Battle Rage, Overpower, Sprint, wait for fury to fill (optional : WotB, wait for fury to refill), WW, Sprint, WW, Sprint,...
I like doing my run at a steady pace, without dying, or having to stop to wait for CD, just keep on rushing forward and kill every pack I see, so Thrive is better for me. :) With Slaugther your run might be shorter since the packs will die in less than 15s, but you'll have to skip severals packs, and sometimes to wait for WotB CD. On the other hand, killing a big tanky melee pack in 10s is pretty fun too. :P I think both are valid (though definitely Thrive on Hardcore)
Hmm, for Act 3, 5k armor, 500res, 35-40k HP, 1.5attack/second, 1300LoH should be fine. Not sure on damage, having low damage isn't that bad, just make fights longer, but you don't wanna hit the enrage timers either. If you get 10k you should be able to kill every elites and boss (siege, azmodan, even diablo) before their enrage timer I think.
may i know whats your gear? my barb has 1.1k LOH 34.5% crit chance at least 650 resist all without warcry buff(900~1.1k resist all wif warcry) and got 12.7k dps but i find it rlly hard to fight against fire chains and desecrators as my health goes down very fast when i run in wif whirlwind
i killed diablo in inferno with this build...use over power when you are around those flames and it will heal you instead of damaging you...nice build...keep it up..!
Yeah, if you have about 5k armor and 500res, 1300 LoH should be enough with some attack speed. LoH heals you more often with more attack speed anyway, so you may actually tank better even after losing 150.
I don't understand. I have just started using the build and I KEEP DYING... I've got everything as you do, I've checked your profile on battle.net, but my life on hit doesn't seem to work at all! What after those 4 seconds of crushing advance pass?? Those dots kill me immideately
what the hell do you do about the disconnect bug? i never see you disconnect in your videos, but i pop out every 5 or so minutes. so much so that i'm down half of my net worth because i can't stack 5 neph. i barely get to one (or sometimes not). summary: what do you do to not get disconnected?
Yes, same problem. During the start with zero Fury, activate War Cry and follow by Battle Rage...then I don't even have enough Fury to even Sprint and generate the Tornadoes...How to boost up the Fury fast and initiate the fight in the first place? When facing Elites with Teleport...this can be a real problem...
Check my recent comment (just here below) about Sprint being a "manual" skill, in case you mean you don't get any fury at all. Otherwise, first check that you are spawning 4 tornadoes when you run. Don't use WW right away, you should wait for your fury to be full before. You must have Battle Rage with Into the fray on, and 40% crit chance. You ask about single targets, but can you do it easily vs, say, 3 monsters already?
i had this exact issue, i solved with superstition (each time you're hit you gain fury) and warcry that will release a good amount of fury at activation
Act bosses are big so all tornadoes hit them, which generate enough fury to spin endlessly. :) Even vs a single elite monster, I can generate enough to spin 80% of the time on average.
Strange that you can't survive only in 4 man, monsters do the same damage in solo and coop now. It can be a bit harder to DPS since monsters aren't all focusing you and spread more, but surviving should be the same.

@@HyperOpticalSaint Yeah man :) Sorry just saw the comment
Hey your guides are really good, I watch many of your videos, it helps me to build my barb, thanks

Updated

How are you supposed to start a fight with 0 rage with the overpower build? sprint and battlecry cost 20 each and shout only gives 30
what do u do when u come across waller/shield. i was pretty much dead straight away
My barbarian is very weak level 30 any ideas on how to increase armour or help tank? Thanks
Hmm, for Act 3, 5k armor, 500res, 35-40k HP, 1.5attack/second, 1300LoH should be fine.

How do you have 2 tactics tabs with Battle rage and war cry ? :/
Why do ground effects (Plagued, etc) heal you more than they hurt?
may i know whats your gear? my barb has 1.1k LOH 34.5% crit chance at least 650 resist all without warcry buff(900~1.1k resist all wif warcry) and got 12.7k dps but i find it rlly hard to fight against fire chains and desecrators as my health goes down very fast when i run in wif whirlwind
can you stilll farm as good as like this? Because ppl says all-res nerfed
Gotta turn Elective Mode on in gameplay options ^^. (Detailled Tooltips is nice too)
i killed diablo in inferno with this build...use over power when you are around those flames and it will heal you instead of damaging you...nice build...keep it up..!
Yeah, if you have about 5k armor and 500res, 1300 LoH should be enough with some attack speed.

Hurricane. Sprint will spawn twice as many tornadoes most of the time, and they'll heal you (from the LoH) more than Blood Funnel would.
Yes, same problem. During the start with zero Fury, activate War Cry and follow by Battle Rage...then I don't even have enough Fury to even Sprint and generate the Tornadoes...How to boost up the Fury fast and initiate the fight in the first place? i want to know what stats to look for on items
Difficult to understand what you are saying..
How do I build fury up before i use sprint.
i had this exact issue, i solved with superstition (each time you're hit you gain fury) and warcry that will release a good amount of fury at activation
Dino how are u actually gaining Fury ? u dont use Bash ....
Act bosses are big so all tornadoes hit them, which generate enough fury to spin endlessly. :)
Even vs a single elite monster, I can generate enough to spin 80% of the time on average.
i don't understand how can battle rage generate that amount of fury at the startup, when the fury is almost none ?!
Strange that you can't survive only in 4 man, monsters do the same damage in solo and coop now. It can be a bit harder to DPS since monsters aren't all focusing you and spread more, but surviving should be the same.
I'll try to post it soon.
why dont you give us your battle net profile?
I got "+x-y Lightning Damage" on my mainhand, but that's already taken into account in the weapon's DPS, the lightning doesn't do anything special. :P
Turn captions on if you mean understanding my voice, I subbed it.
Great guide Dino!
Nothing... I just never get disconnected. The disconnect bug only affect a few ppl, dunno why.
Dino i want to see ur main barbs gear
Your build is so great, all my gear was busted by the time I had 4 hits in. GG yu so smat :D
warcry critchance shout and then leap or instead of leap use bash with fury gain rune and start sprinting
could i see your gear?
Aah, the *reflect* counts as a hit? That's genius! Thanks for the clarification..! :)
thanks for sharing this awesome build!
Yeah still works great, didn't notice any nerf on all-res.
no autoattack?
no. 3, get hit 1-2 times doesn't work (or not anymore, you wouldn't know if it is from an update or not)... is not enough anyway...
i want to see your armor and weapons
So you mean activate Warcry > Battle Rage > Use Bash With Investigation Generate 6 Fury Per Hit > Sprint..
Even though Overpower is recommended..
Gameplay Options : Elective Mode
