The mantra of healing you're seeing is from the other monk in the group. Yes I am using Earth Ally when I was making the vid I realized sweeping wind would actually give you more DPS so I changed it for ya'll.
Yep that's very true, I stopped using deadly reach and instead used hundred fists with the laser beam rune because my deadly reach was outranging my sweeping wind, but using the increased range is also a great option to still use deadly reach and keep sweeping wind effective.
Love the way you started it by going through the abilities and why then showing it in action. Really looking forward to trying this build. Honestly you have been super helpful with all the videos. Keep up the great work and as always ill be looking forward to the next video.
Thank you for linking to the video, i watched the whole video once, and will continue to watch it from time to time. Looking forward to starting the 30 day test, starting tomorrow.
Eh usually the difficult ones are the elite versions of regular mobs who hit hard, like the big bloated guys or the guys that swing the big maces + jailer. Not being able to run away really makes it difficult to survive sometimes.
Haha well here's the thing. My life's purpose is to motivate and inspire others to reach their highest goals. ANd with this channel I'm building up a receptive audience so that in the future I can release more self development/workout/nutrition oriented videos and get more than 3 views on them lol. So it's working toward a higher goal, and thus I feel great about being able to play games and work toward my end life goal :D
It'll increase the damage the mobs effected by it takes, so it effectively increases anyone's DPS attacking that mob. With that said, my math was derped, and it's 48% and not 192%, but still anyone attacking the mob effected by the mantra will do 48% more damage.
Seems like a fun build if you're in a group full of glass cannon ranged, or if you have someone else who can take hits for the group. Correct me if I'm wrong though, it might be good to mention that you get some of your survivability because there is another monk in the group who is able to run Mantra of Healing (which I assume has +20% resist to all) on it. Having a Barb in the group could also give a similar/improved effect to this.
are there specific mobs u have trouble killing when you solo without the Mantra of Healing to keep you up? What is the hardest mob (I know arcane is pretty annoying) that you have a hard time with in that current spec. ALSO did you try using that spec in act 2?
Hey man! Nice video. Do you think that this build would be viable in Act 2? Either Solo or with someone else? Would be cool to know, cause the build was just awesome.
holy crap i actually made this exact same build the other day excluding the one with everything as i'm using two 1H fist weapons to increase regen over time. I'm considering swapping out to a shield and using one with everything soon thought as it seems almost crucial for inferno. Thanks for the confirmation that this build works in inferno :D!
Happy... thanks for posting this video. I took your advice and now i'm taking out elites in act 1 building a 5 stack were before I wasn't able to do so. Love getting 30k crits. Night and day difference for me.
Dont you like a dual wielding monk more ? I think the attack speed has many more advantages over a shield if you can find a good one. Whats your take on this?
Hey man! I just wanted to thank you. I had not tried inferno with my monk because I was afraid of dying all the time but with this build I can kill stuff.. DPS of 22k and critting 32-38k. I tip my hat to you sir.
Dude that was great! But what are the main stats for your item? I would love to try your build out, my monk is at lvl 55 now with 41k life but only 600 dps. Getting slained constantly.
Do you think using Mantra of Retribution would be a viable choice? Since this mantra, with the first rune that lets you reflect 60% ranged and melee damage back, basically allows you to take less damage and do more damge, this should be the better choice right? Sure, using Mantra of Conviction will mean you do more damage perhaps but you will be more vulnerable.
It would work, there's a variation I put up, search "diablo 3 monk inferno dps speed" you'll see my build that incorporates some of these elements but has higher survivability and thus is better for soloing with.
Thank you SO much for this video.. I was ready to go cry in the corner with my Monk and reroll something else, especially with the healing nerf. My Monk and I are in love again! 8D
It's seriously the #1 question I get asked, is how to change the skills around, I can't believe Blizzard didn't do a better job of letting people know that the crucial option existed.
The tooltip reads "causes all enemies within 20 yards of you to take 12% additional damage". That's why I'm pretty sure it works for all group members and also why it won't show up on their portraits, because it's not a buff for them, it's just causing any mobs within 20 yards of you to take more damage. Nothing in the tooltip would lead me to believe it only works for the individual, and that doesn't make sense give D3's design philosophy of encouraging co-op.
The only character I have ran on MP10 where my resistance was decent enough to survive was a Barbarian around 880 using "Superstition" he could stand in arcane's loosing about 2-2.5k life a hit. On a normal run, yes, 700 is sufficient to survive, but running monster powers more resist/armor/melee reduction/ reduced ranged attack % will go further stacking. You can run the higher MP (5+) but you will find yourself dying to molten and arcanes much quicker then someone who has a better resist
How do you see the percentage of aditional dmg from your spells? I can't see that, is that an option? For example in the min 2:46 you see those green numers, but I don't.
Your videos have been very entertaining since i found your channel, and even more so coz u take the time to read comments and reply :D keep up the good work and ignore the haters, i can see this channel hitting 1mil views very soon
The mantra does not work for the group does it ? Because when I use it, only my dps increases and not the groups.. also, you dont see the symbol at the group's logo's up top. Correct or am I missing something?
It won't show a dps increase with the mantra. The mantra is technically a debuff on enemies, saying they will take 48% more damage for 3 seconds after activation, 24% after activation.
My Act1 farming build is similar to this one, although I do use two one handers with crit damage increased. I have about 34% crit chance and 200% increased crit damage, thus criting a lot. That's where I changed my build from this one: I changed the Deadly Reach with Way of the Hundred First- The rune with the attack speed stack. I crit a LOT, i literally spam 130k+ shots very often. Another thin I do is that I use Sweeping Wins with the Cyclone cuz of crits. With BF I hit 62k dps. cool video!
Quick note bud. The build that you have linked is different than the one you talk about in the video. Earth ally and Mantra of healing are being used insteads of conviction and sweeping wind.
I've been digging around for items with phys resist because it generally seems like the least expensive (plus I had a lil start with a couple of items I found). I'm not up to Happy's level of resist yet, but I only made it into inferno yesterday- and about halfway there. Just keep checking the AH! There's always a deal somewhere, just have to find it ^_^
How do you use the skills from the same "bracket" several times? I'm only lvl 54 yet so I don't know if it is something you lock up at lvl 60. But anyways I can't seem to use both heal and flash for example.
I run a build similar to this except I use Way of the Hundred Fists with the Windforce Furry rune. Using an 1100dps 2h with ~20k dps unbuffed I have seen 150k crits. It makes doing Butcher runs much more fun.
I'd say to finish Act 1 comfortably you need at least 50% resist to everything. Just keep gearin up and clearing the hardest content you can comfortably clear.
Swap out your r-click for the other spirit generator that increases damage to enemies and then use the passive that gives you 8% increased damage when using multiple spirit generators = even more DPS.
GL on Act 2, I'm also a monk, with a dps of 20k(24k full buff) (I have an okay items) Resist +530 on everything. You need to be tanky on Act 2. I kinda also use the same build but instead of Vortex i use Earth Ally, and instead of Mantra of Conversion I use Mantra of Healing. This got me to the end of Act 2
What about critical hits? a criting changes things i believe. I mean depending on how crits work. If its off 100 bananas or off 148 bananas. Since its by chance. yeilding a total of a different amount total.
I cant seem to get Breath of Heaven, Blinding Flash, and Serenity all simultaneously, is this an old video, did they change something, or am I missing something
Ok something that really confuses me. Why if your skill page completely different to mine? Also my skills don't even have as long a description as yours does. :/ Any idea?
Warden/Butcher by far. The items you get are SO Much more useful. I'm in the process of doing 20 butcher runs, 10 w MF gear and 10 without to see what kind of differences in drops/time spent per run there is to see if it's even worth it to run with MF gear, so stay tuned for that :D
Try out the combination strike. It's awesome. With my base 17k dps i managed to go up to 56k dps (!!) it's a bug or something but it keeps "re-stacking" infinitely with WotHF (the rune that increases AS/MS)
I have a question. Right now i can't access any resistances on any items. Is it be im low level? I am lvl 27 right now. Do you need to be higher level to get them?
You will get more dps by running thunder clap fist of thunder, the increased attack speed and splash damage are huge. Also, use air ally instead of sweeping wind, has a perm sweeping wind of it's own and hits well. Better uptime due to it persisting and lower spirit cost, also tanks mobs.
Monk for sure, but I'm a little biased :) As far as leveling, just play and have fun for the first 30 levels, the game really isn't challenging at all then. I have 30-60 leveling guide up in my channel and on my website.
Your armor and all resist needs to be about 10:1. Hence, if your armor is 8k, beef up your AR to 800 so that your Effective Health Line is at it's best. This game is all about finding a good balance. The easiest way is to use the healing mantra with all resist buff.
hey, not to be rude, but you're math is off. the mantra in fact does not give you 192% dps to group as you thought. it gives 48% dmg more dmg to each person. that totals up to a 48% dps increase. i could give an example equation, but it could be long winded so i'll only do it at your request :). good idea and try though!
GREAT BUILD. BUT the crippling wave with the mangle rune is 143% damage and reduces enemy attack speed by 20% and movement by 30%. the only reason i like that one more tho is that with deadly reach, you attack the enemy at a distance just far enough to where your sweeping wind won't hit them unless you have the rune that boosts its radius. crippling wave is up close and personal to where your 3 stacked sweeping wind will destroy them, and it reduces enemy attack seed and movement speed
The mantra of healing you're seeing is from the other monk in the group. Yes I am using Earth Ally when I was making the vid I realized sweeping wind would actually give you more DPS so I changed it for ya'll.
It does not directly buff allies, but any mob seffected take 24-48% more damage so if your allies hit that mob, they get the benefit.
Thanks for the Nightinggale link. I listened to the whole thing and it was inspiring. Thank you for an original, refreshing game channel
Thank you for linking to the video, i watched the whole video once, and will continue to watch it from time to time. Looking forward to starting the 30 day test, starting tomorrow.
Thanks for linking to the inspirational video at the end, amazing.
Search "monk equipment and stat guide" to see a vid I made explaining Monk stats and the equipment I'm using.
I shot the gameplay footage like two days ago and shot the beginning part today, between that time some stuff sold off the AH for me.
Eh usually the difficult ones are the elite versions of regular mobs who hit hard, like the big bloated guys or the guys that swing the big maces + jailer. Not being able to run away really makes it difficult to survive sometimes.
For the higher mitigation from armor with the shield, although now I'm thinking maybe dual wield with the passive would be better.
Haha well here's the thing. My life's purpose is to motivate and inspire others to reach their highest goals. So it's working toward a higher goal, and thus I feel great about being able to play games and work toward my end life goal :D
For sure they help out a lot, I've been running 850 life on hit build and it's wonderful.
Thank you so much for that link to the very inspirational speech! holy cow i think it will change my life
go into options->gameplay-> check "elective mode". You can now set your skills to anything you want.
Allright!
Awesome man, thanks for the fast and accurate replys and all, your channel has become a great favorite of mine lately :D
I'd recommend taking a look at the updated 1.0.3 builds in my channel, this one's quite old.
go to game options and switch "elective mode" on
it allows you use whatever skills you like for each box...
Go to your ability that is your right click, use the arrows at the Left and Right on that screen. You can use any ability you want across your bar :)
Hey man i just wanted to say how great this build was. I followed it and now at level 55 in hitting for almost 25k dmg and wrecking everything.
It'll increase the damage the mobs effected by it takes, so it effectively increases anyone's DPS attacking that mob. With that said, my math was derped, and it's 48% and not 192%, but still anyone attacking the mob effected by the mantra will do 48% more damage.

Having a Barb in the group could also give a similar/improved effect to this.
There is an option in the game menu called elective game mode that lets you set whatever skill you want to whatever button.
How'd it work for you? Seems like that'd be a lot of healing lost from transcendence.
Thanks for the kind comment!
Pretty fun to look back at this. 10 years. Damn things have changed.
are there specific mobs u have trouble killing when you solo without the Mantra of Healing to keep you up? What is the hardest mob (I know arcane is pretty annoying) that you have a hard time with in that current spec. ALSO did you try using that spec in act 2?
Nothing in this build relies on crits though, and you lose out on the 18% increase to your DPS from deadly reach, so that's why I chose deadly reach.
Hey man!
Nice video.
Do you think that this build would be viable in Act 2? Either Solo or with someone else?
Would be cool to know, cause the build was just awesome.
Options, check detailed tooltips or something like that.
Thanks again for another view and comment, man, you are so helpful.
Thank you for the video, this is a nice find. I have a question: how did you get your resist up that high??
holy crap i actually made this exact same build the other day excluding the one with everything as i'm using two 1H fist weapons to increase regen over time. I'm considering swapping out to a shield and using one with everything soon thought as it seems almost crucial for inferno. Thanks for the confirmation that this build works in inferno :D!

go into option, gameplay, advanced tooltips. While you are there check most of the page as it really helps with understanding your damage :)
Cool build. I think I'm gonna try it out ! By the way, why shield and not dual-wield?
Dont you like a dual wielding monk more ? I think the attack speed has many more advantages over a shield if you can find a good one. Whats your take on this?
elective mode in options is on, allowing you to choose your own set of skills
Hey man! I just wanted to thank you. I had not tried inferno with my monk because I was afraid of dying all the time but with this build I can kill stuff..
DPS of 22k and critting 32-38k.
I tip my hat to you sir.

Thanks for the kind comment :D
Search "Diablo 3 Inferno Gameplay Monk | AFTER Nerf | Build + Gameplay" to see a different build for farming Inferno.
ever tried fistsofThunder with teleport instead of DR/keeneye? more lot procs, dog, faster? idk just wondering if you prefer DR for any reason?
It would work, there's a variation I put up, search "diablo 3 monk inferno dps speed" you'll see my build that incorporates some of these elements but has higher survivability and thus is better for soloing with.
how are you getting the detailed info on the skills when you hover? I only get a basic description where it seems you are getting percentages , etc.
Thank you SO much for this video.. I was ready to go cry in the corner with my Monk and reroll something else, especially with the healing nerf.
My Monk and I are in love again! 8D

Really great video man, thanks for the help got into inferno, this was a life saver.
Also TY for the linked vid, nice.
Yep agreed, keep in mind this video was made almost a month ago now.
The mantra does not work for the group does it ? Because when I use it, only my dps increases and not the groups.. also, you dont see the symbol at the group's logo's up top.
Correct or am I missing something?
Might be. Survivability might be tough without mantra of healing.

Because this video was made a month ago, check out my channel for updated DPS builds, 38k DPS with 36.5% crit, tearin sh*t up.
Thanks for the love brotha.
Quick note bud. The build that you have linked is different than the one you talk about in the video. Earth ally and Mantra of healing are being used insteads of conviction and sweeping wind.

How does this build do solo and what is your gear aimed towards? Like increasing dps or increasing resist/armor.
I would like to know what armor you weaps your using. I am using Inna's Grandur, and skorn. DPS is at 104080.50 with out skills
Enable Elective Mode.
Options>Gameplay - it's on the right, toward the bottom
if u take "sweeping wind" out and put in "way of the hundred fists" in and use combostrike as a passive, u gain even more dps.
Hit the arrows in your skill selection screen.

Thanks for doing these!! I really do appreciate the time that you put into making the Vids, and giving your tips on your play. Thanks man.
Swap out your r-click for the other spirit generator that increases damage to enemies and then use the passive that gives you 8% increased damage when using multiple spirit generators = even more DPS.
Does mantra of conviction affect allies? Cos it doesn't seem to say unlike the other mantras
how did you set it so that the ability description shows the increased amount mine doesn't and I don't know how to change that
If your maxing dps would the passive guiding light be an idea?
Good thing this was an Act 3 insane DPS video.
Would this build be viable for inferno solo? I've heard a good one is to stack resistances and armour.
This got me to the end of Act 2
how did you use all defensive skills? mine isnt letting me do that...do i have to be lvl 60? cuz im lvl 23 atm...
All about the resists. I tried a run last night with all MF gear and dropped to 45% resists and 23k hp and couldn't survive my first pack.
The heals from transcendence are still nice.
I have a question. Right now i can't access any resistances on any items. Is it be im low level? I am lvl 27 right now. Do you need to be higher level to get them?

And for party and solo build i think cyclone strike is one of the best cc. It works almost on everything.
Monk for sure, but I'm a little biased :) As far as leveling, just play and have fun for the first 30 levels, the game really isn't challenging at all then. I have 30-60 leveling guide up in my channel and on my website.

Dude, awesome vid, awesome info, and awesome intro. Love your mission statement!
I'mma subscribe dude, much love no homo.
may i ask, when open your skill panel, how do make ur skill bonus % thing?
GREAT BUILD. BUT the crippling wave with the mangle rune is 143% damage and reduces enemy attack speed by 20% and movement by 30%. the only reason i like that one more tho is that with deadly reach, you attack the enemy at a distance just far enough to where your sweeping wind won't hit them unless you have the rune that boosts its radius. crippling wave is up close and personal to where your 3 stacked sweeping wind will destroy them, and it reduces enemy attack seed and movement speed
Definitely earned a sub with this video. Thanks for the highly appreciated tips!
Good job with the video and thanks for the link to the strangest secret.
The Strangest Secret is really, really good. I listen to it all the time, really weird to find it in some diablo 3 video!!
