Johnny is such a kind guy. I remember back in 2017 or so, I sent him some song ideas and he gave me great feedback. Such a nice and genuine guy even in a small interaction like that.

Finn, I was introduced to Bilmuri when you shouted the band out in 2019 and I couldn’t be more thankful that you did that. I haven’t touched a single roll of toilet paper since then and have traveled to 3 of their shows and I’m serious when I say Johnny has personally stayed after each of those shows to shake hands and talk to every single person that wanted to meet him. Didn’t matter if the show was at a tiny bowling alley bar/venue or a sold out show with 1200 people. You can really tell this dude cares deeply about his passion and his audience. Genuinely thank you for being the reason why I got to experience three of some of my favorite memories. There is no show like a Muri show.

The idea that Bilmuri follows the nuances/complexities of just being a person is spot on. Somber, silly, regretful, sad, joyful. So many emotions wrapped in tasty jams.

Me and One of my best buds were going to see Bilmuri in Queens, and while we were chillen be the merch table Johnny came right up to us and just started talking to us about normal human shit, where good places around NY are, where he should tour next etc.. No ego, such a friendly guy, and a fuckin CobsSmacker of an artist. Will always remember that night

One of the best things about Johnny is that while any artist can say that they’re grateful for their fans, you know that he means it. You know that he’s having the time of his life in the studio and on stage, and he doesn’t take it for granted.

Thank you, thank you so much for this interview/chat. The conversation about ego and artist's ego was such an important thing and both your input on the matter was a joy to listen to. All the things you talked about were so important and the fact that you are really funny but also really genuine and serious when the subject is serious is something I don't see a lot and I'm grateful for it.
PS, I hope one day you'll have Garrett Russell from Silent Planet on the show. I believe it can be a great conversation.

Been waiting for this!! I see a Johnny interview and I click faster than I wipe!! Finding Bilmuri is one of the best gems I will ever discover!! Johnny truly is great to his fans! Seeing them in Tampa was one of the best moments in my life! Right up front row in front of Johnny and Paul!! Wet milk is the first album I had heard the rest is history! I have never had lyrics hit so home with me as Johnnys lyrics, the album covers are funny , the song and album titles are funny but the music and the lyrics are S tier so happy to hear he’s planning on releasing 2 albums this year!! Absolutely luv hearing that!!

    Hey Finn, love your videos!!
I really relate to what you say in 26:56. I started singing and screaming about two years ago and I am playing in my metalcore band with my high school friends. Guitarists tends to have a lot of riff ideas and not a lot of songs ideas. I always tell the two guitarists in my band that people will be more attracted to a good vocal melody then a bunch of guitar riffs. As a vocalist, I love to have an instrumental where it’s easy to sing something memorable and so, I think that bands should try to find a balance between catchy and heavy riffing moment. When I look at big bands like Metallica, this is exactly what they were good at.

I love Bilmuri. Discovered Bilmuri in 2020. Bilmuri has become one of my favorite bands. The only thing I didn't like in this interview is the assumption that people do not care about albums. I do. And I know several people who do. I have always listened to the whole album. And I hate when bands just release a single. I want to own the physical record. And listen to it in my car 800 times. That's how I have always done it. Always will. To each their own. But just wanted to say that their are people out there that love listening to an album. And still love the build up and the anticipation of a new album. But, again, love Bilmuri and will listen to whatever comes from Bilmuri. Haven't been disappointed yet. I just really hate that people have become so impatient and have such short attention spans that all they can ingest is singles. Great interview though!

I'm probably one of the last people who very much likes albums. I like things to all sound somewhat similar. And albums kind of have a cohesive vibe where all the production sounds similar and if the album is made right, like Goblin Hours, it's just awesome to listen through from the top all the way down to the bottom. I love it. And, it allows bands/artists to curate a journey through the music as an experience, rather than just 3 minutes at a time. I listen to tons of songs on their own, but still love an album as a whole. I'll get stuck on one particular album by a band all the time. Make Them Suffer's Neverbloom album, Reflections EXI(S)T album, Issues Beautiful Oblivion album as a few examples.

I’m definitely one of the odd ones who prefers to listen to albums. When I browse through all of the new releases each Friday, I rarely even look at singles. If I know an artist I like is going to be releasing an album and is putting out singles leading up to it, I will usually just wait until the album is out. I know that sounds ridiculous, but that’s honestly just the way I like to experience my music.

22:00 that shoegaze era was imo a result of Strymon shimverb/delay craze that just went nuclear on guitar forums in 2011ish. It's coming again because Vst's are cheaper but I think the public are burned out on it. Dubstep has come back again now with excision etc putting on INSANE cinematic shows syncing the graphics with guns, dinousars, lasers etc. It's nuts.
