Attack Attack were a game changer. I was the keyboardist/screamer for a PHC/metalcore band between 2009 and 2011 and I'm not going to lie and say we didn't rock the crabcore stage moves. I have video footage of my 22 year old self jogging in place with my Microkorg like Caleb in the Stick Stickly video. What an era to be alive.
I was in the Ohio local metal scene in that time frame. I remember seeing 2 or 3 different bands every weekend in Chillicothe doing the same thing. I was more of a melodic death/ deathcore fan so I remember thinking the PHC and metalcore bands were basically carbon copies
@0:59 oh Hi Bilmuri, the hog crankin legend
Johnny Frank still makes killer music by the name of Bilmuri
His first or maybe not project Johnny make is The March Ahead.. it sound so good..for me The March Ahead is better than Bilmuri.
@@GhostofYouZthe march ahead is amazing, his covers of time after time & the story of my life are amazing on top of everything else he wrote with that project
They say he’s still on that island in the sky
Honestly, hearing all of this about Caleb makes me really proud of him for coming out on top- after going through so much shit with AA, alcohol abuse, depression, Austin Carlile’s antics, and starting an entirely new career under Beartooth not knowing that it would be successful.
To this day I love Beartooth and all of this shows that at the end of the day, Caleb is a wonderful man that worked hard to get where he is.
i agree!
One of AA!’s key contribution was the realization across the metal scene that bad press and cringe was profitable. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but it definitely changed the trajectory of how bands approached business forever.
They never said that this would be easy.
I have a soft spot for most of Attack Attack’s material. Honestly, they bought something different to the alternative music world at the time, so I got to give them props. It makes me impressed every time I think about them.
Interlude from Someday Came Suddenly is still used to this day by sports arenas around the country
two kinds of nostalgia in this video for me, attack attack, and also the silent hill sound effects. its perfect.
Wow this was great! Me and my wife’s boyfriend just finished watching this and we were brought to tears! Truly an epic band!
Say what now 😮
LOL WHAT
I'm his boyfriend's boyfriend and I too cried with FXKNate's girlfriend while we watched this@@thenegativoneify
😂😂😂
Wait a minute huh!??
So many good acts came out of this band man.
Attack attacks newest incarnation
Beartooth
Of mice & men (and dayshell by proxy)
The march ahead
Billmuri
Some of us
Nativ
All outta this one band.
Attack Attack! tried to warn us about Austin. And we didn't listen until 2020.
The industry sweeps from those they see as dollar signs.
@@graymadsit's such a shame. Dollars over integrity.
*cough* A Day to Remember *cough*
I think about that one too but I'm not clear on details regarding who warned people before the accusations came out. Was anyone talking about that?
@@Emobeefyfalse allegations
Grew up in central OH and knew Austin for a little bit when his dad and him moved up here.
The scene was such a good time around then. 2006/2009ish.
Miss may I.
Devils wears prada.
Asking Alexandria.
Underoath.
I don't think any of us realized how much fun it was until it was gone lol.
When Caleb and John left in 2012, touring guitarist Sean Mackowski also left, along with half of the bands touring crew. I've been wondering for 12 years if there isn't more to the story there.
Love it! Thanks. It was actually all that mockery of stickly vid that first drew the band to my attention… I thought wow anyone hated on this much has gotta be worth a look haha! And of course contrarian young me loved it- and indeed still does! :)
I love these documentries you put out bruv ! Crabcore is def a vibe lol I appreciate you very much my brother
Always!
“Stick Stickly” Put ‘Em On The Map With Crabcore.
@@One_of_Many750 absolutely homie. I remember all the funny n wild memes that came out after they dropped Stick Stickly
I love these in depth looks at bands that bring me so much nostalgia
bro this shit is hilarious
first you cover dir en grey
you add intel dnb in background
cover all of my interests and now you slap me with this nostalgia of my metalcore years
I lov u
I got you 😜
@@graymads were you an Adept fan?
motionless in white 's creatures is my personal favorite of 2010. really of all time
Caleb in This Means War era was the coolest frontman I know, losing weight and improving his vocals, but all of that cost everything for Caleb. His health and his mentality, but thank God he recover very well and even stepping up his game to his level right now 😊
God the days where I used to blare “Stick Stickly” in my high school parking lot. 😭😂 thank you, Mads for this video. I’m always so fascinated by your deep dives.
Also: your whispering in this video… 🥴 crap.
Please Tell Me You Did The Crab Stance While Blaring That Track. ☺️☺️☺️
@@One_of_Many750 that’s almost like a requirement. 😭😂
It was played at my senior year prom 🎉
Haha for the longest time back in the day I thought Nick B was Austin because I saw them live back in 09. So when Om&m first dropped I remember telling my friends “Austin, the fat guy screaming from Attack Attack has a new band”. Simpler times I tell ya what. Also your patreon ad is GOATed.
Honestly I'm just glad that I wasn't the only one that remembered AA. The last time I was talking with friends about this genre of music NO ONE remembered them. I had to go back and listen to their albums to confirm I wasn't crazy for loving them.
We are hitting untold levels of rawr X3

I have a fun question/game for every chugga-chug-chug crabby MF in this comments section.
1) Do you have a huge a** playlists of mid and late 00s - 2012/2013-ish metalcore and post-hardcore?
and
2) List your highlights. Gimme your deep cuts if you got 'em. Remember Gwen Stacy? Catherine? Five Minute Ride? Those are some of my deep cuts.
great chronology! really appreciate these videos
Thank you for including the Skate 3 clip. I heard Even Flow the entire time.
I directed/edited the music video for Stick Stickly, your right the music video has F-All to do with the lyrics. Great watch BTW
Living legend right here! Any idea where that set was all these years later?
I remember seeing AA on tour with ETF and the word alive. Caleb was sick and basically throwing up on stage but was still singing his heart out. Had never listened to them before that and then fell in love with them.
I never thought the band who literally did fucking _crabcore_ and was featured in a Kitty0706 would influence metalcore, amazing.
🦀bring on the crabs🦀
C R A B P E O P L E
Should do one of these for Horse The Band.
Attack attack was always good but I think the shift into “this means war” excited me the most and was necessary for the time. I could be the only one that feels like this but I truly loved that album
Man i forgot that scene feeling, im gonna go listen to some myspace music now
I honestly love the rise/fall videos. What do you think about DRUGS resurgence and Craig's reimagined versions of some of his projects songs?
Woah I didn’t realize how close to beartooths current sound the “This Means War” was until now😂
graymads once again casually showing they’re the most goated youtube channel around
#DefendCrabcore always 🔥👏😤🦀🎸
Bilmuri was really glanced upon.
I was excited about AA! Returning until I realized that it's only the Andrews were returning. The band is more a cover band now and it shows.
I had the same reaction, like its cool they still play the old stuff, but its a different band.
I downloaded the “comeback” ep. Had one really solid song and the others were fine. I wouldn’t say it’s bad but Definitely not as fun and memorable as the old stuff.
@@graymadsthey should avoid the two albums and just play songs from "this means war" album
16:30 don't get it twisted, I See Stars wasn't copying off of Attack Attack. I can see how someone could come to this conclusion, but I grew up as a little scene kid in the 2006-2010 metro Detroit scene where I See Stars is from. When they were playing the local circuits they were a high school band just putting out their debut EP circa 2007, and they had their sound from the beginning. This was before Attack Attack made real waves. The sound they were known for on Someday wasn't exactly there in their EP, but ISS had their signature electronicore sound as far back as their EP in 2007 and even earlier MySpace recordings.
Rawr XD to close to the sun 😂😂😂 I forgot that Austin was in attack attack!
Beartooth and billmiri were the best things to come out of attack attack
the peoples elbow is my favorite
Please do one on a skylit drive. So much to discover on that one band
Attack attack ran so Abbath could walk, crabcore kings
You just had to be there. As someone who watched Suicide Silence, Dr.Acula, iwrestledabearonce, OCEANO and the likes of pass through my town on their way to Illinois you just literally had to be there for this era. We were iconic in our own right no doubt.
that new Beartooth song with HARDY is the shit, tho. i gotta say. i'm from Oklahoma and this state is full of metal cowboys so it hit the spot all the way. another great vid, dude!
idk i love the return of Attack Attack!, i think only one original member but they came back so nice and i can't wait to what else comes from them.
My favorite emo band to listen to during skateboarding seshs🤘
36:20 you mean like the thene of the drive thru records welcome to the family cd and booklet from loke 2001?
Saw the first run with Caleb fronting and oof it was rough. Never got around to seeing Beartooth, but he had a long way to go in those days.
You can tell Caleb didn’t really know how to scream early on in AA. He was always out of breath on stage. He has gotten a lot better in Beartooth
@jthrock45 theyre coming through in about a month. Im gonna give em a try and see what theyre about. Ive always heard good things
Droppin a little nod towards Glasscloud, such a great album.
I attended their farewell tour but since the lineup didnt have caleb, instead of watching their set I got my head shaved by Landon Tewers of The Plot In You lol
Thanks for this summary of millenial lore that I apparently completely missed out on.
Crimson Armada was sick too
We Are The Blog turned crabcore technical.
c r a b c o r e
only the classics
I loved Nativ! I was really excited with each release they had on SoundCloud and TH-cam, they had alot of potential. The singer, Phil sold me the full LP that was suppose to come out, great record.
Beartooth, when I Have A Problem first came out, was hooked. that Sick EP was fucking fire. 10/10. The direction changed alot more melodic rock but i think it represents where Caleb is mentally, alot happier.
BILMURI, Johnny boi is just too damn talented! You see how many fucking songs he wrote?!?! Same situation with Beartooth, the day he released bilmuri music, been a fan since and hes still putting out bangers.
14:46 this mix between metalcore and eletronic music is awesome. Attack attack! basically shaped my taste in music? Can you guys recommend me some songs and bands that do this?
Like asking alexandria first album too
You’d probably like the band I See Stars ^ ^!
Their New Demons album is one of my faves
Fail Emotions/Fatal FE, The Browning, One Morning Left are some of my favorites
Fear and loathing in las vegas first album "Dance and scream"

I See Stars “Treehouse” Album Slaps As Well, As “Digital Renegade”.
hey, man. i'd love to see you do a video on alesana. the emptiness is so fucking good
The Emptiness is kino
I FUCCKIIN NEED THISSS
I listen to Some Day Came Suddenly like every day.
Hey yo fumbles o brian is the one of the best songs on the album
There quite likely wouldn't be Electric Callboy without Attack Attack - both the original lineup as Eskimo Callboy, and the amazing phenomenon they are doing with Nico. Attack Attack ran in place so Electric Callboy could pump it.
(The rich techno scene of Germany is just an extra there.)
He left attack attack because of god but now he's not even religious haha he swears and shit all the time in billmiri
Excelent vid
The fact that Caleb Shomo wasn't the vocalist from the start and they went years with a powerhouse in their ranks is CRAZY. You can definitely tell that vocally, Caleb is a far more balanced vocalist both in screams and in cleans and I think how successful Beartooth still are just goes to show that.
I love AA don't get me wrong but I think it would have come off as a more musically pleasing group if they had someone with Caleb musical ability from the start on vocal (Sorry Austin).
It's also very wild how different the screams from AA are compared to OM&M from Austin. Way more balanced imo
Yoooooo glass cloud, fuck yeah, miss jerry on the scene
43:47 buddy is wearing an OM&M shirt
whatever happened to jphn holgado?
or whatever
I think it's important to mention that attack attacks comeback album in 2020 was crowd funded by their fans. i definitely don't think it was a shameless cash grab and I also think the music they put on that album was really good for the most part (i simply don't think they make good radio-friendly tunes) but the heavy stuff is fantastic (press F for example). I saw them live about a year ago and got to spend some time with them back stage and they seem like genuinely good dudes. even snagged a couple photos with them.
Amazing
Attack Attack even invented Octane core 🙏🏻
Crazy wetzels rant sounds exactly like dance Gavin dance rant about Johnny Craig
Hey I played a show with Crimson Armada once in my home town. When i was in highschool. they was on tour with mychildren mybride
One of those bands ended up stealing guitars and a half stack from us 😂
Youd have to amend this title, to "rise and fall ....and rise again? .. of Attack Attack!
caleb's so cute at 15:10 lol
Boxxyyy
Crabcore
We back again baby!
Attack attack died when Johnny left, let’s be honest
That's what I said too. The 3rd album was so generic and poor. I'm glad both Johnny and Caleb stayed in their respective projects. I'm not much of a Beartooth guy but he definitely does better there.
Attack Attack! One of My All Time Favourite Bands.
Caleb Shomo And John Holgado Are My Favorites.
The 2nd album is the best by far. Caleb should have never left because beartooth sucks
22:10 the start of this reading confused me and then i realized that AA stood for Attack Attack in this context. For a second i was like "dont go breaking this guy's anonymity, bro" 😂
Caleb use to be so big lmao
I think modern attack attack is just as good.
I do think the band has a better future now that they've turned over this new leaf, just need a stick stickly 2 and then all is forgiven
😂also the word in in-between two words.falling in reverse, motionless in white, ghost inside...ok that one's technically two words but there's alot more bands like that 😂
Shazam
Wtf is crab core
Showing Takashi 69 instead of Dahvie was hilarious
Wasn’t AC 130 a hate song towards Austin Carlile?
Also if you love GC so much then why not make a video about Jerry Roush?….. please.
Sturgess recordings all sounded the same
bring me home
Warped Tour left us homeless
Please finish that thread on for all we know
I'd be more than happy to make a video about it. Not the biggest SWS fan but For All We Know was cool.
@@graymads i was fortunate enough to have remixed some of Kellin’s material here and there so I’ve always been interested in the makeup and history of SWS as well as their early dominance in the scene in 2010-2014. It would be a really cool thing to see the graymads touch on the history of that band also knowing that they’re a very beloved band by many. I think they honestly stand as a time capsule from that era of music seeing that the lineup has practically all changed since then and they currently sound nothing like they originally did.
completely forgot abt this band omg
I see stars came before these guys, no?
ISS didn’t get going until 09

Just a small footnote. The We Are Defiance ft. Austin Carlile song 7000 Miles for What was his first feature post Attack Attack and is basically his diss song to the band who left him on tour and made him travel that far only to be let go
That was Of Mice & Men. They had demos recorded of that song back in 2009ish before their debut album dropped
really entertaining video but attack attack were not massive originators or ahead of their time! they were derivative of so many bands around at the time and were criticised mostly for the really simplistic songwriting and relying on choruses. They were also a pretty big part of warp tour and that really bolstered their popularity. The self titled transition to this means war wasnt totally as drastic as you describe it, the S/T deluxe bonus songs were a stepping stone for the direction of this means war and the ‘arena rock’ feel you’re describing i think is a result of their non stop touring the previous year. Caleb had become the in house producer for the band toward the end so it became kinda a caleb solo project.
Second perspective about this band i never listen to
This means war is beartooths best album
Luv you Bilmuri
