Idk if you’ve ever listened to Lorn but his music has a very similar sound to the deep bass of the sax through the whammy. Not sure if it’s ur kind of music but I certainly recommend giving it a listen. All his stuff is on TH-cam or Spotify
Gabi's saxophone tone is so gorgeous. You can tell her tone is super full and rich even though the effects. As a former saxophone player it makes me very jealous!
The duet was absolutely beautiful! It was a great summer evening under the stars kinda song. And how cool is it that she has her own custom pedal boot?
I was kind of hoping for the "I just sat on my foot too long" bit from the editing stream, but I get why you went with the longer version. Great video over all.
The ad, reminded me of those 90s furniture commercials with someone dressed up in a random costume which is never actually explained… anyway it was entertaining in the most awkward way. Thank you
Gabi nailed the Tyrell corporation vibe @ 4:54 and that beautiful jam where the camera shutter gives those wavy strings @ 7:24, amazing work guys, Gabi must be stoked to have checked all those out!
I don't even know if it was intentional but the fact that Gabi's jewelry matched the sax is bonus points. This whole video is so great. All the amazing sax sounds. Gabi absolutely commands that saxophone. The duet. THE CHONKY BOI APPEARANCE AT THE END WITH THE SNORTS!!!!! Yes. This is the kind of content we need more of in the world. Y'all killt it.
The first effects I’d heard for saxophone was a Maestro woodwind effects unit that was used by Ian Underwood and Bunk Gardner of Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention, and can be heard on albums like Uncle Meat, Chunga’s Revenge (the title track featured the Maestro unit with a wah-wah pedal) and numerous posthumous releases by the Zappa Family Trust. It was also utilized by Chris Wood of the band Traffic (“The Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys” is an example).
What the what!? this is so incredibly cool, I know absolutely nothing about Sax but getting to see Gabi's face as she reacted to the pedal effects was so fascinating and fun. Then the duet was such an amazing audio experience, my ears felt so good. Also KEVIN!!!
That was wonderful, come back soon indeed! Loved the duet, was mentally adding strings for a bit, then drum and bass, then some dfam/synth goodness. So lovely.
Yooooo this was a great episode. Would absolutely love this to be a reoccurring theme. Just Imagining the folks whose pedal journey you could jumpstart
I started paying close attention to jazz in the early 1970s, during the first blush of outboard effects being applied to wind instruments. Gabi's palette of sounds is truly next-level. It's very exciting to hear this kind of sonic experimentation return in such a musically satisfying way. Progress! It's NEAT-O!
Gabi, you are honestly the best addition to Bilmuri and i really hope you NEVER leave! If you cant stay with them over the years, its understandable, you got other stuff going on, but i just want you to know you are so talented and add such depth and style to Bilmuri and i always look forward to when you have parts in songs! I watched the Bilmuri 24 hr Livestream and seeing when you did the play along to Sleep Tokens "the love you want" .....i just really enjoyed it, as well as it got me into that band too! I had no ifea you were in another RnB band, but im definitely checking them out now! You are so friggin good, dont let comments bring you down cause you are doing something thats NOT been tried before or even popular in most music like Bulmuri is known for......Shrezzers is the only other band i know of that has a killer sax player like yourself, but other than Bilmuri and Shrezzers, i dont know of anyone else out there infusing saxophone into their music in that kind of genre, and both are absolutely incredible! I love how well both fit the bands and while i wish more bands could find places for a saxophone player, i also dont cause you guys are so special and its so soothing and enjoyable to hear sax fit into metal/post hardcore/ emo/ whatever you want to classify it as.... Also i saw Bilmuri live when you guys did the second nut tour in DC, and played with Harbour.....Bilmuri was honestly the best band ive EVER seen a live performance from in my 35 years! The sound quality was out of this world, you were so accurate to the album recordings, the energy you all gave off was so genuine and heartfelt that i truly saw how much johnny and everyone rlse in the band really loves doing what they do, making music together, touring, doing it for the fans and making us happy....you guys are such a powerhouse of musicians formed into a stellar band that i have come to the conclusion that Bilmuri is the best band and collective musicians out there these days.....that i know of in my taste of music! Harbour was also phenomenal, and was the first time i heard them at all, but they put on such a good show i got into them the next day and found a new band i really enjoy! Which im always looking for. Gabi, you are such a welcomed addition to Bilmuri and sinve i saw that 24hr livestream of you all, i really felt a connection, appreciation and reapect for everyone in the band, because of the band practice sessions where you took requests and were just able to listen and instantly understand other bands songs and play/add to them! I mean maybe its cause other bands dont do that stuff for their fans, or that ive just never seen it, but i definitely saw how devoted to music and the fans you were during that, and how much fun you all had. Im currentyl trying to get tickets for the summer swolstice tour for Richmond, VA, and i hope i can make it, just to see Bilmuri a second time but if i can somehow talk to you all, even just for a few minutes, itd be so awesome cause i want to let everyone in the band know how much theyve affected me and helped me through rough times just by their music and the times ive seen them entertaining me! I dont expect to have a sit down with you all, but if it were to happen somehow for even just a brief conversation, it would mean the world to me! I know Johnny has a deep love for what he does and didnt expect Bilmuri to take off when he started it, so to be able to talk to him and tell him how much what hes done over the years and will continue to do has really helped me and affected me.....i know it will mean alot to him! I just know everyone in the band are the most genuine and down to earth people ive ever seen in music, and i hope you all keep emjoying what you do and stay together for years to come!
In some ways, this feels like a "full circle" moment. A famous early example of effects pedal use was Keith Richards using a fuzz pedal on the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction", and he reportedly did it hoping to make his guitar sound like a horn (there are different versions of whether it was a sax or a trombone). Using a sax with pedals feels kinda fitting in that context, but it clearly works. Go Gabi (and Emily, obviously)!
to me the "unusual" and "thermae" pedals really stood out with the Sax. The unusual especially - felt like a kinda 80s movie studio post processing effect, but in realtime.
As a saxophonist, my first question was, "Where do you put the pickup?" The mouthpiece makes sense, but was not what I was expecting. Thanks, Gabi and Emily!
I come here for harp and only harp ... HARP damn it! Music is about clear, solid boundaries. No surprises EVER! Walls forever closing in, an infinitely shrinking space!
Just checked out Enrose's cover of Fleetwood Mac: 👍👍👍 Your cover of Bennie & The Jets was fun. I used to play the bari, and I must say that's the most gorgeous sax I have ever seen.
That was so fun!!!! Especially because I am also a sax player. NOW I want to look into using pedals on my sax as well!! Thanks for having her on the show.
There’s an artist called Pipe-eye that pulls off using the Miku pedal subtlety. But that’s because his music is so kooky in general. His album Laugh about Life is great.
This style of video is pretty cool. Love to hear Collab and see how different people make music. A musical talkshow is a pretty cool idea actually. Recently I've seen a few others!
Cool I very rarely like saxophone but this is awesome. The combination of beautiful Harp and a just as beautiful saxophone almost had me in tears. Thank You both❤
This is very cool. There's a great, long tradition of effects on sax, thinking Nik Turner with Hawkwind, Bunk Gardner with the Mothers, Sahib Shihab. It just sounds so awesome. And that duet is wonderful!
I was not expecting that sponsor segue at all Also, I really loved some of these tones. Gonna have to try even more instruments with more effects if stuff like that can be the result.
I have loved bilmuri for so long and have been watching Emily for quite a while now. I love when my loves, love each other. Like watching Tyler, the creator at a death grips show. That’s what this reminds me of. Absolutely wonderful.
Sax was my first instrument I learned to play from 6th-8th grade, and I quit playing because I had picked up the guitar… since then I have wished I would’ve stayed with the sax now that I see how absolutely magical it can be with rock and metal, but even then I could’ve never imagined running my alto or my baritone sax through a wah pedal or a digitech Whammy pedal lol this is so awesome!!!
Played sax for several years during my teens. Just bought one and been hoping to go back, re-learn and hopefully play to a decent level again. This video gave me that needed boost. And I basically get to try out pedals both on my guitar and sax :)
🎷 This is so freaking cool, I loved hearing her play sax with all of the different pedals you have!! 🎧🤯 The Goblin mask is also friggin awesome too lol Such a great guest, I really enjoyed the jam with you two at the end!! 🤩 Will be checking out Enrose!🐀
This was fantastic. Some of those effects were really surprising on sax. And that duet was incredible. I used to have a friend who did looping with an soprano sax and the EHX 16 second delay. Hope Gabi's foot heals fast.
Thank you for inviting me into your pedal WORLD. I had a blast🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
GABI YOU HECKIN ROCK!! 🤘💖🤘 And that saxaphone is BEAUTIFUL😍🎷✨
well done!
@@soveriegn777 really? I thought Gabi was beautiful, and her saxophone rocked! Lol
you were so much fun! Happy to see some new faces!
I loved the Sax through the Unusual EAS by BlackSkyCraft that was a beautiful.
Hearing the sax through the Whammy and the Drowner is just further proof that anything can drone.
Haha so true
you gotta look up doomjazz and shit like that my chum
Serious foghorn tone in that section.
Honestly, if doesn't land Gabi a gig with Sunn 0))), Boris, or Sleep, idk what will.

TIL the world needs more Harp and Sax duets.
It really does!
Did harp and sax just become best friends?
check out Matthew Halsall, even though he play the trumpet with harp he still is the closest i know of
Wow. This collaboration should last forever..
It really should

Yeah I agree, the duet was so good
6:32 That improvisation was amazing! 💖
The sax sounded great through the “Unusual” pedal! 👌🏼
Your duet was beautiful too 🙏🏼🎶💜
I'm lucky to have the Unusual Eas..It's magical..😊
It was the most epic part of the video IMO🥲👍
@@soveriegn777 I agree..I'm biased when it comes to the Unusual Eas.. Only over 100 ever made and discontinued..I'm blessed to have one...🙂
@@patrickr6505 EPIC!
I totally agree!
Can I just say I love Emily's sudden limb flop into what I can only describe as a very David Byrne-type dance.
😂😂😂
Soooo... can we expect some harp on the next Bilmuri album? Gabi, please convince Johnny. PLEASE.
After adding pan flute, pedal steel guitar, and harmonica to the repertoire, I feel like harp is the only logical next step.
Sax and Harp! My goodness! That was the most beautiful thing I’ve heard in a while! More please!
I need a lullaby album with Emily and Gabi playing together 6:44 😍

As a saxophonist, my first question was, "Where do you put the pickup?" The mouthpiece makes sense, but was not what I was expecting. Thanks, Gabi and Emily!
You can do it with just a regular clip-on microphone too, as long as it has 1/4" output, which my wireless receiver does! :)
Is there a particular mic you are using? Is it just a contact mic, i.e. no modification to the mouthpiece or special mouthpiece?
It's a Viga Musictools Intramic. Best amplification device to ever come out for sax and clarinet!
