The best thing about the Xbox Elite Controller, is with the remapping the buttons to whatever, and the added paddles, it's actually great for accessibility. I have nerve damage in my hands, and a couple buttons and movement combos are very tough for me to do, especially in longer sessions. Being able to add those paddles and give them certain functions is a huge help for me
This is what I was thinking of the whole time. I don't need these things, but I've seen people who do. It's great to have an option out there for a legit controller that allows remapping and the attachment of custom paddles is ingenious. It sucks that the price point is so ridiculously high for it, but I suppose that's probably less money than having to take apart a controller and build your own accessibility device into a tray table or the like. Especially if you aren't a DIY master like the ones I've seen. Wish he'd at least mentioned accessibility.
18:24 I think it's hilarious how Scott accidentally said "Joy-Can" instead of Joy-Con and he probably heard the mispronunciation error and just ended up keeping that in the video.
Wii U pro controller was so close to perfection. The analog stick arrangement made the buttons and d-pad perfectly replicate the SNES layout in the lower half. All it needed was analog triggers and motion control. I personally find it the most comfortable controller and still use it with my Switch today over the Switch pro controller.
@@CrackerNDaisyOfficial It’s called the Mayflash Magic NS 2. It’s a cheap, non modding method to connect most Bluetooth controllers to any system that accepts USB controller input. Since it covers almost any wireless system, I’ll even use my Wii U pro controller on PS3. It’s a must buy for anyone gaming on a budget.
As someone who used to play competitive shooters on Xbox all the time the Elite controller 1 & 2 made a HUGE difference when playing games. Being about to turn and look around while consistently using any other the action buttons on the right was a game changer.
Someone who just barely figures out you can turn while using face buttons has never been exposed to the true ancient eldritch knowledge known as claw gripping. Saves you like a hundred dollars too.
@@queuedjar4578 I tried claw grip and hated it lol. I never was able to get used to it. The trigger stops were really good for pistols and the new d-pad is so good for fighting games. This controller is just all around everything I needed lol.
@@queuedjar4578 or even in certain games you can even give yourself easier free mapping buttons with they paddles by binding something important to a useless/less important button (usually a d-pad bind) and then map the paddle to that button.
25:46 this definitely belongs in a no context video. seriously how does scott do it where the content is funnier out of context than in, when the content is so good to begin with.
Seeing how big Scott's collection had gotten and how many cool and interesting things are in it fills me with a sense of awe and dread knowing how much abuse those things are going to be subjected to.
29:30 This is a feature of the elite 2 controller, but its even better because you can leave the cable attached to the case and place the controller in the case to rest & charge.
The Wii U pro controller stick layout was absolutely perfect for Hyrule warriors, which was basically half of my playtime on the entire system, so I absolutely loved it.
Exactly. There are games for which top sticks are absolutely perfect. I have a controller with symmetrical top sticks, but it's a Switch Pro controller, and a pair of JoyCons like that. For some games, it's just better.
Wii U Pro controller is the GOAT. All it needed was analog triggers and maybe motion controls. I still use it over my switch controller to this day. You can buy a universal Bluetooth adapter and use it on most systems.
There’s also when you have to take your finger off the trigger to hit the bumper. I’ve got a lot of use out of back paddles and make sure every controller I use has them. As for battery, AAs tend to last me several days, while a rechargeable battery gets used up way sooner. But they do make long lasting third party rechargeable batteries, which solve the issue. Modular batteries is a very important feature for me, because it gives me freedom of choice. Another thing about AAs is that when it runs out you can just quickly pop in a new set, while with a rechargeable battery you have to take the time to charge it.
Actually, that's more so the opposite of insane. $230 AUD = $146 USD, which is even a bit cheaper than the $150 the controller went for in the US itself. The Switch Lite is $200, so $146 seems about right for how much a used one would generally cost. I don't want to be rude here, but it really seems like you weren't aware that Australian and United States dollars aren't the same value, something I've seen people not know a couple dozen times in TH-cam comments sections alone. 😑
One second in, and you’ve already killed me with Jerry Atricks saying “Hey all, Scott there!” And I love the American Red Cross visor you’re wearing as a chef’s hat like your Cookin’ Hard video. Your commitment to such minor details for continuity never ceases to amaze me.
Wonder if Scott showing up with an Elite Controller at a cook-off might also be a continuation of the end joke of "Personal Trainer: Cooking" where he blames the controller for his meal turning bad.
It has its perks but it catches me off guard in like ToTK when I have to lift up the controller from my lap and get it orientated. Like geez Nintendo, let me play video games snuggled up in bed
@@tomrees82Splatoon 1 had a local 1v1 mode called Battle Dojo where one player uses the GamePad and the other uses the TV with either a Wii U Pro Controller or a Wii Classic Controller (Pro). Since neither of these controllers have built in motion sensors, the GamePad player is always at a disproportionate advantage. Nintendo made a post on Tumblr IIRC instructing players to tie a Wii Remote Plus (or just a normal Wii Remote with a Wii Motion Plus connected) to one of these controllers which would allow you to control the camera with its gyroscope. Enabling this mode also requires inputting a specific button combination at the main screen for Battle Dojo. Once you've done all of this, it does indeed work. You control everything with the normal controller while the Wii Remote handles the gyro controls, though it won't be quite as responsive and precise as the GamePad.
There's a mexican saying that goes: "el muerto al pozo, y el vivo al gozo", which is a rhyme that says something along the lines of: "the dead to the grave as the living to enjoyment", meaning that life goes on after a loved one dies, and to keep enjoying it, as they won't be able to again.
we've gone from a video on controllers to one specifically on pro controllers, if Scott goes into any more detail... that L-button video is coming soon, I can feel it.
27:45 This controller seems neat, but I think it would be more fun if it had even more customizability, like relocating the D-pad or ABXY buttons, or easy button switching. A true modular controller just speaks out less for the pros and more for the engineering nerds who want something they can tinker with.
22:18 On the Xbox elite controller, both v1 and v2, it’s a known design flaw that you can’t “flick” the analogue sticks without them slightly swinging the other way. This is true regardless of the “tip” or tightness used. So it’s not just a Scott issue, it’s an issue with the controller itself making twin stick shooters MUCH harder than needed.
That Gulikit pro controller they made for the Switch is the best controller I've ever used. Super comfortable, nice buttons, and most importantly those fantastic joysticks that won't drift (unlike the joy-con *cough cough*). The standard GameCube controller was my favorite for a long time, and I do still find the clicky triggers more satisfying and intuitive, but I only ever reach for the Gulikit one now.
I think the best thing about "pro controllers" is the lack of stick drift, though that is typically found on third party options like razer. If you play games a shit ton more than you probably should, it ends up saving money because spending $60 to buy a controller every time one becomes unusable due to stick drift adds up
It's simply not worth it because it's already 3x the original price and then you have to buy the replacement sticks anyway you'll never make your money based on that alone unless your pumping out like 7 controllers and then your the problem
@@gigapac my controllers typically break within 3 months (and no, I don't abuse it, I just play a lot). imo the Wii U pro controller is the best controller out of all of these. It's ergonomic, it fits perfectly into *my* hands and the grip and the buttons are just perfect for platformers like celeste. Also i love the thumbstick locations. You can more easily change camera angle and quickly press X and A.
This is THE perfect time that Scott could have uploaded "Pro Controllers - Scott The Woz"! I can't think of any other Friday night that could have been better to upload such a video!
I’ve gotten good use from pro controllers since the Wii days. It’s interesting learning about what kind of additional features get added to pro controllers and seeing their practicality.
What's funny to me is that the "Slow-mo" pause and unpause effect is something that speedrunners actually use to help do frame perfect tricks. So in a way, it is a "pro" feature. Not that I'd think a speedrunner would actually use it.
That feeling when a random Scott video is better made than a modern AAA movie. Scott's rise in YT marked the ascent of Pro YT video movement. Still an exclusive club of less than 5 YT creators.
TOTK/BOTW motion controls are perfect IMO you don’t need them at all but they are there for small adjustments if you want it. You don’t have to just up and dance around just move your hands a bit and that’s super nice
I love that Nintendo’s pro controllers, are literally just normal controllers. They aren’t anything that’s actually special, just better than what they give you to start out with.
playing doom eternal with the elite controller feels so good. i think any movement based fps game is better with paddles. throw a jump button on the back paddle and you can have your thumb in the camera stick more often so you can constantly look around
That red Xbox Elite controller looks so nice twirling in the light like that. Scott may be colorblind, but the colors he can see? He knows how to pick em!
Funfact: Switch Pro controller is super easy to mod, and you can just drop in Xbox Elite analogs (on their own they are like $20) and can now avoid drift AND can swap the sticks like an elite controller. The only "modding" you needa do is take a razer and very slightly shave the inside of the holes for the stick on the faceplatr as they are ever so slightly too small for these analogs ro move smoothly. Doesnt take much and its internal so ya wont see any difference once its put back together.

200 dollars for a controller felt like a crazy proposition until I bought an arcade stick. Love that thing.
DualSense Edge definitely sounds like the product name for something, but not for a controller.
I guess it can be a controller depending on who's using it.

Wait, how do you use it with a switch? It’s for the Wii U, so did you mod it or something?
@@CrackerNDaisyOfficial It’s called the Mayflash Magic NS 2. It’s a cheap, non modding method to connect most Bluetooth controllers to any system that accepts USB controller input.
Since it covers almost any wireless system, I’ll even use my Wii U pro controller on PS3. It’s a must buy for anyone gaming on a budget.
@@CrackerNDaisyOfficial 8bitdo has an adapter to connect other controllers to the switch
But also the joystick tension and longer joystick made aiming feel soooo much better in games like rainbow six siege.

No wonder he had to keep moving house.

What about TV/DVD Remote-Style Controllers? There are several Playstation ones + you can't forget the Wii U gamepads quintessential function!
I was not prepared for how hard I'd be laughing at this, the chili cook-off bit is one of the funniest Scott's ever done
In Australia the elite controller was $230 with is now about the price of a used switch lite. It was pretty insane.

One second in, and you’ve already killed me with Jerry Atricks saying “Hey all, Scott there!”
And I love the American Red Cross visor you’re wearing as a chef’s hat like your Cookin’ Hard video. Your commitment to such minor details for continuity never ceases to amaze me.
I was also sold 1 second into the video lmao
the geneva convention or whatever among us won’t like that
Wonder if Scott showing up with an Elite Controller at a cook-off might also be a continuation of the end joke of "Personal Trainer: Cooking" where he blames the controller for his meal turning bad.
15:30 glad Scott appreciates or at least recognize the gyro aiming's precision
Its the only way I could do the horseback archery minigame in BOTW.
Seriously, I use gyro aiming exclusively in Pokemon games (espec Arceus) and BOTW'TOTK! MUCH more accurate for me! A lot more fun, too! lol.
It has its perks but it catches me off guard in like ToTK when I have to lift up the controller from my lap and get it orientated.
Like geez Nintendo, let me play video games snuggled up in bed
I’m surprised that he didn’t mention how Splatoon 1 literally instructed you to tie a wii remote to the pro controller to use motion controls
Nintendo has crazy manuals just look at the wii
Can you elaborate on this please?
Wait what?
An entire episode devoted to pro controllers? The L button episode that Scott is planning to produce is getting closer and closer.
Plus he talked about the triggers , but didn’t mention the right, and left buttons.
If a new Scott The Woz episode comes out I'm watching it. No matter what, even at the funeral.

27:45 This controller seems neat, but I think it would be more fun if it had even more customizability, like relocating the D-pad or ABXY buttons, or easy button switching. A true modular controller just speaks out less for the pros and more for the engineering nerds who want something they can tinker with.

Dude the Xbox Series S d-pad is absolutely EXQUISITE. Incredible for fighting games while also having distinct buttons for any other game.
11:18 “what’s standard for most is professional for Nintendo”-straight bars🔥🔥🔥

I can't believe Scott actually did a sneak peak for this video. Insanity levels of coolness.
