Since it got cut out of the final version of the video I'm now making a comment about DK Jungle, the AC on that track was patched in Wave 4 through changing the checkpoints in that area so you cant perform it on the current version of the game. However if you reset your switch and have a physical copy which has version 2.2.0 or lower you can go back to that version and still perform the glitch. I got 9 laps on DK Jungle this way without using any shrooms, the video for that is in the Discord (seriously go join it right now) and on my channel.
I think it's funny that Nintendo is often so good at polishing their games, that a community will go nuts trying to find a glitch in a RACING game that makes you go SLOWER.
This is amazing work!! At this point there is no shortcut potential, but discoveries like these can open the door for future discoveries, so who knows. I'm excited for that and I really enjoyed this video Jopes! (also you guys invented the AC record category which is super cool)
I think the reason why the first few discoverers of the glitch were in multiplayer is because the opening would be wider due to multiplayer being in 30fps in comparison to solo plays being at 60fps so the origin has longer movements per frame
This is a really good point, I had thought about the fact that it might be easier in multiplayer, but I never connected that to the fact that a lot of the clips were in multiplayer.

you're right, the chance of them patching it is very low. They could do a simple patch to fix the ones that we've found so far, but this wouldn't solve the underlying issue (which would take a LOT of work to fix). And also, this glitch doesn't really pose that much of a threat to the game as a whole, so I'd image they would just leave it be.

Between infra shortcut and ultra longcut the latter feels more like it portrays this, infra shortcut sounds like a really bad shortcut, while ultra longcut sounds like the long way round Though ultra long feels best since cut implies the removal of something and ultra long is just, long

This channel has gone from what I thought was just a guy that was passionate about Mario Kart doing some challenges, to a guy full on breaking what I thought would never break. Awesome content. Especially when it's well presented for more casual players with the explainations, the 3D models of checkpoints zones and so on That discovery may or may not be useful for future speedruns, TAS or superplays, but in any case that's always interesting to see the reasoning, experiments and findings that allow these performances to happen

Now i want a speedrun category where: 1) On any track, drive any number of laps around the track, including any shortcuts or longcuts, that a reasonable human being would count as a set of laps. Game counted laps are only relevant in that the run is considered valid and ends when Lakitu waves the checkered flag. 2) Runs are sorted according to reverse min item rules, such that more laps in a run are sorted superior to fewer laps for the criteria of determining a world record (EG: a 7 lap run would beat a 6 lap run regardless of the completion time) 3) In runs with the same number of laps, fastest time wins. 4) all runs should be completed in time trial, and times are to be logged as appears in the time trial session results.
I think this should be called. How yapping told us nothing about ultra shortcuts. But hey it's certainly something 😊 nice way to lose time. I still appreciate you for your efforts ☺️

funny thing is this can be easily fixed with a linecast (if those exist within mk8dx's engineer, otherwise by just sampling more positions in between)
