Please go get your library card because you deserve it and libraries are f****** awesome.
I just made a huge comment on this same subject. I LOVE my local libary and it gives me the opportunity to rent SO many games I'd never have the money to buy
Yes. I found out that my local branch doesn't have video games... But the branch next town over does! And because we're part of the same system I can reserve games and have them sent to my library. Now as long as nobody dumps the game files via the MIG switch dumper everything is awesome.
YES!!! I didn’t grow up rich, but I played so many good games on my consoles growing up because my parents always took me to the library. I still play some WiiU and 3DS games I get from there to this day! :)
A lot of your videos are informative but many come off as more like trivia, like "that's a cool fact" and stuff like that (while also being hilarious of course). This one really feels like a genuine guide and its really cool. Really fun to watch as always and would recommend this as an informational video to someone who felt like they couldn't get into gaming for monetary reasons
He tried to sell Wii Plays separately, stole a copy of Madden 18, try to sell bootlegs, someone stole his knife and put Rex in critical condition, played emulated games…
The dedication of Scott to the bit of refilling his game collection by taking down a sizeable portion of it from the shelf to only put it back up bit by bit is astounding. Just a little detail I noticed watching and that was cool.
Just want to inform people that almost any subscription service will let you cancel immediately after subscribing and still let that month continue, it will just cancel at the end of it. This is the sequel to the "Scott's Game Collection" video, where he states multiple times that owning so many games starts to take the fun out of collecting, and that he honestly wouldn't mind getting rid of it all (baring some childhood favorite) and starting all over.
@@Gloomdrake Thank you. I know he said the whole jail thing at the start, but I couldn't help thinking back to the episode about collecting and thinking "Wow, he actually went through with it".
If you're a PC gamer, another good thing to consider is stuff like Steam's Spring, Summer, and Winter sales, G2A, Humble bundles, Green Man Gaming, and GOG. All these places do games at reduced prices a lot or in big bundles that will end up being cheaper bought together
It's surprising great to be a PC gamer. I grab the occasional bundle on Humble Bundle. But since they changed ownership the donations to charity dropped significantly.

Garage Sales/Goodwill gaming finds- Those are a thing of the past but they were real once upon a time. Mostly late 90s/early 2000s when parents would jump dump every cartridge or accessory in their homes.
@MegaMicah12 I think you misread the post, they were talking about finding something really good at goodwill or a garage sale for cheap. These days people know that games can be worth a lot on yhe secondhand market, and goodwill just puts all of the desirable games they get onto their website at the normal going rate for that game. The age of finding a PS1 and 10 classic games for a steal has been over for a while.
Yeah it started going bad in 2007. For a very short while you could still find amazing thrift deals with PS2 and Xbox. Then those started going away as well.
@@MegaMicah12 same thing here in New Jersey lol once it gets nice weather wise there will 100% be yard sales and there's always a goodwill/other thrift stores throughout
Yakuza/Like a Dragon are some of my go-tos for a single game you can get a lot of content out of. Not only are they on their own pretty chunky main campaigns + tons of side content like side quests or casino games, they're also often compilations games all on their own. Newer titles not only have a decent selection of actual Sega Arcade games, some of which have haven't been re-released in years, but some of the games even have a collection of Sega Master System games you can find and play in their entirety.
RGG games go on sale CONSTANTLY so there's really no point in buying them full price unless it's, like, the latest one. Side note, but in my experience, collections of old games also get insane discounts, see: The Bioshock Collection, The Mass Effect Collection, The Portal Collection, The Ace Attorney Collection. It's great if you missed out on any of these series.
@@thanatoastmanaged to snag the valve collection on steam for around £20, I mean that's after a sale AND a price reduction because I had a few of them already but getting the others for quite cheap was nice.
When it comes to gaming on a budget these days an important thing to think about is that generally since late ps3/360 actual development in games has stagnated a HUGE amount, so unless you care immensly about every graphical difference or are really into multiplayer only titles the actual quality of the games really hasn't changed that much, you could argue it's not really changed at all when you consider half the releases on ps5 are just remakes of ps3 games with little to no gameplay differences, it's not the same as it was 30 years ago where every few years the power difference between consoles was enough to go from the original zelda to a link to the past, for most genres the amount of value you get out of a single game and the quality of the actual gameplay hasn't really improved that much since the early 2000s
Yeah he kinda glances over it but all the games the have been remade a ton were never fun in the first place they are just good at gaslighting people repeatedly. Especially skyrim.

I just wana say I love that scott never forces a Sponsorship, ad read, or even asking for interactions. He is a pure and real entertainer unlike 90% of this modern era of content creators
For people that really are on a budget, only have a pc and don't mind older games, here is a better list that will give you an insane amount of time and fun for your money. Half Life 1 and 2 (as well as Sven Co-op which is completely free.) - Like a million of custom maps, campaigns, puzzle maps, horror maps, shitpost maps and so much more Doom 1 and 2 - A lifetime of custom maps, campaigns and weapons that you can run on any shitbox Amnesia Dark Descend - The horror game to have, with its peak popularity in the 10s it has a very big supply of custom campaigns that are sometimes even better than the original Garry's Mod - Definitely more multiplayer oriented (online is free on pc so you are fine), it has a giant community that offers absolutely everything, sandbox servers where you can screw around with hl physics, fun gamemodes like prop hunt and trouble in terrorist town, as well as a thousand RP servers and other gamemodes. If you and your friends can only get a single game to play for the rest of your lives, this is definitely it. Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, Call of Pripyat and Clear Sky - Great atmospheric apocalyptic survival games that have again an insane modding scene, people make full on new games from these mods giving you wild slav hardcore survival sims Nethack, Angband, ToME and so many more (almost all of them are free as they are technically still mods of rogue) - oldschool roguelikes that have so many details put into them, that you can truly achieve almost any interaction that comes to mind when exploring the dungeons. Dwarf Fortress - I dont even know what to say, this is a simulation in which you command dwars to build expand and survive, the game is so indepth that it can pretty much generate an entire movie plot for you if you just leave it go by itself. Minecraft and Terraria - the kings of sandbox building games, terraria is definitely more boss oriented while minecraft is exploration and building. again these are games with giant modding communities that can completely change the games into something new. probably the most infinitely repayable. There are countless more examples that I just can't think of but if you really have no money, getting an older pc that can run games till 2016-18 you can still run almost all of these examples flawlessly and you will definitely have a great time. Love you Scott, but I love your fear of PC even more.

This new gaming on a budget is definitely a good time for me to bring up a neat recent story, last year when I went to Retropolooza ( a gaming con I attended every year since 2015) I didn’t have the big spending budget that I would usually have for the con, so what I did was scope out vendors that had bargain bins, and I gotta admit they certainly help me expand my pick ups that year, as managed to snag titles like dead or alive 5, motor storm, Sphinx and the curse mummy, and the evil within for dirt cheap, so it goes to show game collecting doesn’t have to be difficult, just as long as you’re looking in the right places.
I will say, I've been surprised how much you save buying physical games. The control publishers get with digital means that, while they can go on sale, you have to watch for said sales. Physical games on the other hand will usually drop permanently over time. You can consistently find games like Elden Ring or God of War cheaper physically whereas digitally you need to wait for the specific times when they're on sale

PAUSE 35:00 Scott, thank you so much for advocating libraries in this video. I'm lucky enough to live near a county library. That has very good funding. And they've got like selections of all sorts of consoles. It's actually astounding. But like to everyone watching this video. Please go to your local library and get a card. If they don't have video games, they might have comic books and if they don't have comic books, they just have books which are also fun. Everyone watching this video.
Yeah, I borrowed a copy of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond from a local library (it's a longer story than you think) and beat it.
YES!!! I didn’t grow up rich, but I played so many good games on my consoles growing up because my parents always took me to the library. I still play some WiiU and 3DS games I get from there to this day! :)
Yesssss libraries fuckin rock 🙌🏻
A lot of your videos are informative but many come off as more like trivia, like "that's a cool fact" and stuff like that (while also being hilarious of course). Garage Sales/Goodwill gaming finds- Those are a thing of the past but they were real once upon a time. Mostly late 90s/early 2000s when parents would jump dump every cartridge or accessory in their homes.
Uhh...garage sales/Goodwill are still a thing in the Midwest. 😅
I feel like Kentucky and Tennessee might have them too.
@@ShoobsterAhh, ok.

Half Life 1 and 2 (as well as Sven Co-op which is completely free.)
- Like a million of custom maps, campaigns, puzzle maps, horror maps, shitpost maps and so much more
Doom 1 and 2
- A lifetime of custom maps, campaigns and weapons that you can run on any shitbox
Amnesia Dark Descend
- The horror game to have, with its peak popularity in the 10s it has a very big supply of custom campaigns that are sometimes even better than the original
Garry's Mod
- Definitely more multiplayer oriented (online is free on pc so you are fine), it has a giant community that offers absolutely everything, sandbox servers where you can screw around with hl physics, fun gamemodes like prop hunt and trouble in terrorist town, as well as a thousand RP servers and other gamemodes. If you and your friends can only get a single game to play for the rest of your lives, this is definitely it.
Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, Call of Pripyat and Clear Sky
- Great atmospheric apocalyptic survival games that have again an insane modding scene, people make full on new games from these mods giving you wild slav hardcore survival sims
Nethack, Angband, ToME and so many more (almost all of them are free as they are technically still mods of rogue)
- oldschool roguelikes that have so many details put into them, that you can truly achieve almost any interaction that comes to mind when exploring the dungeons.
Dwarf Fortress
- I dont even know what to say, this is a simulation in which you command dwars to build expand and survive, the game is so indepth that it can pretty much generate an entire movie plot for you if you just leave it go by itself.
Minecraft and Terraria
- the kings of sandbox building games, terraria is definitely more boss oriented while minecraft is exploration and building. again these are games with giant modding communities that can completely change the games into something new. probably the most infinitely repayable.
There are countless more examples that I just can't think of but if you really have no money, getting an older pc that can run games till 2016-18 you can still run almost all of these examples flawlessly and you will definitely have a great time.
Love you Scott, but I love your fear of PC even more.
suggestion - the flashpoint archive! an archive with so many games (usually flash ones) which you can play for absolutely free!

Scott has the sort of videos where I can grab a bog of popcorn, sit down and pull it up on the TV, and get cozy like I'm watching a movie.

On the topic of demos, Theatrhythm Final Bar Line is my personal favorite example. Roughly 35 songs from Final Fantasy II, V, VII, XIII, and XV with data that transfers to a full release.
I remember playing that demo for hours. I bought the Digital Deluxe as a personal birthday present and it ended up as my most played game of 2023.
