I’ve always been an Android user but decided to try Apple when iPhone 15 Pro Max came out. Got sucked in with the watch etc but really miss Android and how much more efficient it feels if I need to be productive and how much snappier it is. Swapping back to a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra next month. Also, love the choice of LP for the music.

Thanks for the video, it can be just another "switching" video, but I really enjoyed it :) For me having an iPhone was a dream for a few years and when I got my first it was a big excitement :) 8 years since and still using an iPhone. For me one of the key things is not thinking about it as a perfect phone (where us thinking about something as perfect puts a pressure on us.). It's not perfect, but I like it and that's why I continue using it haha.

Great video, Pete! Personally, I carry both the iPhone 15 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro as my daily devices. Using them side by side has shown me the pros and cons of each. One thing I love about Android is the back button and the smooth display experience. Up until last year, I was strictly an Android user.
As a pilot, I’ve always needed an iPad because ForeFlight is only available on iOS, but using iOS outside of that was always frustrating for me. For years, it felt like Apple was behind in features. My last iPhone before the 15 Pro was an iPhone 8 Plus back in 2018, and I absolutely hated the iOS keyboard. However, the Google keyboard app on my iPhone now is a game-changer. Here in the US, Apple is king, and Android comes second. Life revolves around iMessage, and I have to admit, I love it. Google’s RCS messaging is mediocre in comparison-you get spoiled with iMessage. Adding AppleCare and the ability to get in-person help at an Apple Store on short notice is another big win for the ecosystem, and it actually led me to buy a MacBook Pro and a new iPad.
Interestingly, I still use a Garmin watch and Pixel Buds Pro with my iPhone 15 Pro. That’s right-AirPods just don’t do it for me. I find the Pixel Buds Pro sound much better, and they look and feel way nicer, which is why my daughter “inherited” my AirPods since I couldn’t stand wearing them.
The real turning point for me was the iPhone 15 Pro adopting USB-C. That was a big deal. Now, all my Apple products use USB-C, so I didn’t have to change my setup. Both platforms are great, but Apple’s ecosystem and top-notch customer service are unbeatable here in the US-it’s like Kobe beef level quality. Android just can’t compete with that. Funny enough, it was an Apple Genius Bar rep who installed Google Keyboard on all my iOS devices!
But at the end of the day, it’s all about iMessage. Living in the US, Apple is a must. Had they not switched to USB-C, well… yeah, I’d probably still be carrying my Dell laptop and two Pixels.

Love this comment! Thank you - and I think the first time Apple has been compared to beef 👌🏼 spot on, haha!
Yep I'm picking up my Garmin again for my upcoming trips - much prefer the health and fitness tracking on the Marq. Although I'm tempted to take the Airpods Max with me again, just to try something different to my usual Sonos Ace that I've been using lately!

@@PeteMatheson Great points, Pete! I’m all about simplicity, and my Garmin Forerunner 965 is an absolute gem. As a cross-country coach, it’s been a game-changer for me. Setting up runs and sharing them with the athletes is super easy, and since all of our team’s Garmin profiles are live, I can track where each athlete is in real time with GPS. The athletes with advanced health features even let me monitor their heart rate, which is a fantastic tool compared to what iOS offers. Plus, I only need to charge it every 10-12 days-my Apple Watch was always dead because I kept forgetting to charge it!
Garmin just works. It’s reliable, and I can still see texts and emails come through. But honestly, if I really need to respond, I’m going to stop whatever I’m doing and make a phone call anyway. Garmin Pay is just as widely accepted as Apple Pay here in the US, and I’ve never run into any issues. Plus, my Spotify works great for my runs, which is another win.
You should totally consider doing a review of the new Garmin watches and how they sync with both iOS and Android. I think it’d be a hit! A lot of people are curious about how Garmin stacks up on both platforms.
Oh, and when I travel, I rely on my Bose QuietComforts. I’ve got a big head, and they’re super lightweight. I tried the QuietComfort Ultras but ended up returning them-didn’t feel as premium, and they were heavier than I expected. Thinking about giving Sonos a try next time I catch a sale, maybe even on Facebook Marketplace for a deal.
But seriously, a Garmin watch comparison between iOS and Android would be amazing!

Was using Pixel 7 Pro (love that phone by the way) before switching back to the Apple camp again, with iPhone 16 Pro Max just about 3 weeks ago. I'm missing a lot, a lot of Android features that I've long used to (I'm missing the back gesture so much!!!), but I'm also trying to appreciate what iOS can provide. Definitely will be holding on to my iPhone 16PM for at least 2 years - will see if the Apple ecosystem works for me by then before deciding whether to switch back to Android.

I didn't realise how much I utilize the dynamic island until you mentioned it in this video. I have used both platforms since 2008 when I got my Droid Eris. When the Galaxy S3 came out I became a huge fan of Samsung. I remember seeing the original Galaxy Note and loving it but it was only available with AT&T and as much as people were laughing at it I knew it was the future of smartphone sizes. I switched to the Note when they were available with Verizon and stayed with them until the Note 7 debacle, which to this day I felt like it was the best phone I ever experienced. I switched platforms to iOS with the 11 plus and have been with Apple since because I wanted a phone that just worked and played well with my friends and family. I have a 15 Pro Max for personal use and a S24 for work. I don't fully enjoy using the S24 partially because of the limitations/restrictions that my company put on the device.
If there is one thing that Apple has an advantage of over other brands is simply the Apple store. I can go to one store and find everything in one place.

And that open element is an issue... your data. I used Android over iOS for 8 years before moving back from a security standpoint. Building PCs since late 80s, 35 years plus of building out networks I just found too many holes. After I brought this up to peers I found out most security engineers I know around the world have moved to iOS and MacOS over the past 4 or 5 years due to similar reasons (I'm an old Unix / Linux guy anyway to having a real UNIX kernal is a wonderful thing with MacOS). You note that the different elements "pretty much" work... I'm busy, I don't have time to deal with "pretty much." While it seems like Apple costs more I'll note a huge change some may miss. I have 4 sons, when all of us had Android everyone wanted a new phone almost yearly, they couldn't wait to upgrade. After moving to Apple it's the exact opposite, it works, they really don't want a new phone, basically "I'm happy, I'm getting updates and it doesn't feel slow." This could be because as you note, there is a new Andoid phone almost every month or it could be due to the iOS integration with other products. I think the bottom line though, if security isn't a great concern, is exactly as you state at the end of the video. Quit worrying about what everyone else is using and use the one that works for you. For my family and now extended family as well, that's iOS after almost a decade in the Android camp. It definitely seems like you are enjoying the S24 Ultra, kudos to finding what works for you!

I moved from the S22+ to the S24 Ultra because my phone was slowing down and I have to say, the point that really resonated with me before even buying this phone is the fact that people switch to try something different. I'm still in the fence about keeping the S24, because although I absolutely love the cameras, it's a big phone and I know that the 16 Pro is smaller, and will have it's own great set of cameras.
Honestly, I might pick up the iPhone just to try it and see which ones will be better long term size included after doing some camera tests. 😅

Your Bluetooth issue with car play could probably be resolved with an automated shortcut. Go to "automation" > When CarPlay Connects "set to Run Immediately" > Change Playback Destination to "your car". You'll have to be connected to your car when setting this up I believe. 3. How,does your budget look like, do you want the very best,do you have money for an entire ecosystem, or do you want an all in one device.

    5. What do you use your device for.

Switched from S23 Ultra to iPhone 16 pro max, which is my first time using an iPhone since the iPhone 4s. Tbh I am loving it, there's some features that are just better on iOS and others that I'll miss from android. The phones really aren't that different overall surprisingly, the main thing I like is actually the apple watch S10. In my opinion, it is so much better than my galaxy watch 5 I was using before and it isn't even close!

Great video. Your drawback section is a reminder that there’s no point in comparing an Android phone with the iPhone because the Android phone is a product whereas the iPhone is a component of the product. Most of the drawbacks you pointed out are due to the fact that there’s no Android ecosystem but rather it’s a field with some of the most beautiful flowers (some way better than Apple) and some of the most barren land devoid of any life. Android is all about customization of each part of that field. For Apple it’s about selecting the components (iPhone, MacBook, Watch, etc) of the ecosystem and it has to work because at the end of the day, it’s an appliance. So I am sure that the S24 Ultra is a spectacular phone, but you have to accept the lack of ecosystem and embrace the field with all its awesome attributes and horrible barren parts. For a tech enthusiast like you, I am sure you will have lots of fun and I am looking forward to watching videos about your experience with Android

The original designer of Bugdroid is Irina Blok, "a graphic designer and artist", according to Google's own Ai Overview feature in Chrome.
According to Ai Overview, "The Android mascot's color is a shade of Chartreuse or Caribbean green, which Google uses as the logo color for Android operating system ".

Switching was a bit annoying, but at the end it worked out and all my data is now on cross platform apps. I still use Mac and iPad. My phone doesn't have to be on the same ecosystem. Yeah, losing the convenience features hurt a bit but I don't mind them anymore. All the caveats I had with Android phones before are gone. The flagships feel like flagships, even more premium than iPhone sometimes. My next phone will probably be a Pixel phone, since they're releasing it in my country soon.

The choice between Android and iPhone is a matter of individual taste and priorities. So one cannot say one is better than the other.
Neither Android nor iPhone is perfect. Both have pros and cons.
Also, it depends on what kind of user you are. Are you a casual user like I am?
A casual user does not need rapid activation of smartphone functions. Performance is almost never an issue.
A casual user can easily acclimate to 60Hz refresh.
Examine your personal needs and wishes. This will determine your choice.
Here are a few things to consider:
    1. Ecosystem-which ecosystem serves you better?
    2. UI/UX-which phone do you enjoy using more?
    3. Compatibility with your friends and family. AirDrop and iMessage are good examples of this.

My only option was to save it to the iCloud drive or an app folder such as Pages, Numbers, Downloads etc. No matter where I saved it though, it would not appear in the Photos app. In the end, I had to do a screenshot, which left a shadow of the notch at the top of the photo and a long bar at the bottom. Apple is just so incredibly controlling that it compromises the experience.

I can go on and on, but this is annoying for such a price in 2024 like. 2) Make keyboard intuitive and useful like gboard.
    3) Cleaner files app. I can't find shit and it's a huge mess
    4) Provide support for other earbuds and stop the restricted practices. Airpods Pro 2 audio quality just sucks (not my preference). I'd like a Sony/ Senheiser bassy sound profile with them.
    5) Files again. Make it easier to access and send files with windows computers and not rely on iTunes, likes c'mon! I'd like to connect with pc via Usb and just copy paste the data that I want to.
These are just some of the things which would be a game changer if iPhone provided this. But Apple being Apple, they won't.

I switched to an iPhone 16 Pro Max after being a Samsung user since the S7 Edge. I’m still giving the iPhone time, but I definitely miss Android 😂😂

Absolutely love android. People put much too much weight the versus saga. Both ecosystems work you have to just pick what works for you. I have a full ecosystem for both but gravitate towards android just wish they would improve some things with their art apps but the android system is very robust. I've been holding on to my note 10 plus because if you look at the specs against s24ultra aside from the Ai stuff and cameras they have minor differences which really surprised me. So for now I'm holding out on upgrading either to the next ultra or z fold cause it would solve my need for a portable tablet that's just a bit bigger than my phone. I enjoy your videos keep up the good content.

Pete, you can authorise screen shots for 15 minutes at a time in the banking app in the security settings.

Well said! Great video! I always go for a phone that can handle what I want to do decently. I personally don't see the point in spending a lot on a phone with specs I would probably not be using most of the time. I tend to go with midrange as it's a good balance on price and specs. Currently using the Pixel 7a and will be using it until it gives up on me before upgrading.

I really really really hope that iphones can offer 120watt fast charging so i can make that leap of faith. When money is no longer a concern. I'm still stuck with my xiaomi devices because they just works and have all the features that i love. Like private space (recently coming to android 15), ultra fast charging (like out of shower, fully charged), and also apps that you cant possibly install on iphones, that's not even in the android playstore.

Android allows you to have a great experience for much less money. Even in the high range the differences between the Ultra version and the base version are not like those of the iPhone Base and its Pro version.

I had android. For a few years. Decided to go back to apple with the 15 pro. And it’s a blessing! Social media is so much better. Apps are way better on iPhone. That really annoyed me on Android. Doesn’t matter how good the camera is on Android. On social media it’s really bad.

I've been using Samsung flagships for 7 years straight, and gave up after 10 months of using S23U. Mostly due to weak vibration, terrible camera software and battery issues. "We'll fix it with updates" (that never come) gets kinda boring after years and years of waiting for basic stuff to be fixed. I don't have a ton of features on 14 Pro Max, but ar least notifications are never late and never once happened that notification doesn't turn the screen on (common problem I had with Samsung). I can't sideload apps (did it once or twice in all those years I used Android) but at least I choose what's on my phone - finally no bloatware. Apps do work better on Iphone. I don't have 100x zoom and all those camera "features", but hey - I don't need Pro mode or Camera assistant settings for decent/casual point and shoot picture. Shutter lag is still present on Samsung flagships, no reviewers seem to mention it and I know a ton of people who gave up on Samsung just because of blurry pictures of anything wirh even slight movement. Should not be acceptable in this price range. Finally, I don't feel rush to upgrade every single year because I know (and it always happens with Samsung) that updates will ruin the experience as soon as next model is out.
