1:09:00 if it was so straight forward life alert bracelets, or similar products, would already have this functionality, they don't. There are instances where a peripheral pulse (arms/legs) is not detectable either because a heart beating erratically (arrhythmias), not at all (asystole/flat line) or due to low blood pressure (usually less than 90 systolic)...there are plenty of other reasons too. As a doctor, multiple physical observations allow me to figure this out easy. If I was limited to just observations on the wrist, it would require more inference or AI in the watch's case to avoid false calls to EMS. I think you guys thought heart rate detection was a binary outcome (alive or dead), it's not, so it needs AI to not be useless.
I just want to add that loss of pulse detection could be helpful to anyone with serious health conditions that may be living alone. I knew a friend of mine that he lived alone and he had apnea and breathing issues and he was found dead in his home alone a week after he had died. It might not of changed anything if he had a watch that had that feature but at the very least he would of not spent a week alone dead in his own home, if that means anything to anyone that cares about a loved one.
Add me really shocked and impressed me. It looks like such a useful thing to have and almost felt Apple like in the thought behind it. I was just thinking the whole time, "this is such an obvious problem, why wasn't something like this thought of sooner?" Good job to Google on thinking of this.
For context: Screenshots actually don't take that much space as a normal photo. Since normal photos have a lot of noise in it, when you compress them, you have to store all those details. With screenshots, you can compress them in a much better way because a lot of it is same pixels (or much more uniform as compared to a normal photo).
Starting the demo with Samsung might have actually worked out for Pixel since the Samsung demo didn’t go too smoothly, and then Pixel’s demo was way smoother. It kind of showed, in a roundabout way, why Pixel stands out for AI stuff compared to other Android phones.

Great point when you mentioned price. One of the big reasons people liked the pixel was it was a company's flagship phone but discounted. If this is the same as Samsung, Google will learn a hard lesson
I don't know if David will see this, but in 00:48:45 when you say that the diffusion models don't generate the same thing twice, it depends on the randomisation seed. Typically it is set to 0 (random) which uses the timestamp to generate a random number, but if you fix the seed to something, then every time you set that seed, it will generate the same thing. It is mainly used for reproducibility.

The prices for the new Pixel devices is what made me lose interest completely. I'd rather buy a previous gen Pixel for like 400-500 max. Currently on the 7 and it's been a gem.
Oh come on. The presentation was amazing. AI is the future and hardware is very mature now so the presentation made sense to me. I’m an Apple fan boy and I personally loved it. For the first time EVER I considered changing companies. FYI, the Sabrina Carpenter tour photo fail did fail because in the first 2 snaps he didn’t get all of the image and it failed to identify what it was bc of it.
1:18:04 Processing 90x faster than the speed of sound is a useful metric for ANC as the more processing you can get between ambient noise hitting the outside mic and what you can produce in the driver the better the ANC.
That screenshot thing already works on my S22 Ultra with websites. If you take a screenshot in chrome, it saves the web data with the photo. If you go back to the screenshots album in gallery and look at that screenshot, there's a button that says "go to website" that takes you back to the page you were at.
A lot of this feels, to me, like what some video games felt like around the dawn of the PS3 and Xbox 360. Studios suddenly gained access to these new machines with much greater processing power, but at first they just sorta kept making games like they had been on the PS2, but at 1080p instead of 480p. They didn't really understand what new possibilities the new technology could enable them to do until 3-4 years into the console's lifespan. Google is kinda doing the same thing here by retreading old ground with the screenshots thing. They're just doing the same thing they did before, but now it has AI for no necessary reason. And they probably won't come out with any groundbreaking mainstream AI-based utility for another couple years still.
Just another awesome podcast episode, guys you are the best 😊❤❤. Considering switching from Samsung ecosystem to Google (smartphone, watch, buds) should I?🤔🤔 And yeah keep it up 🤟🤟💪💪

Good points were raised in this podcast. I like it. I also think that it is not a time for AI assistants in our phones for daily use . In pre oder now they offer us AI subscription for a year, but last year it was Pixel Watch 2 as a gift if you buy Pixel pro. So they want us to use AI for daily life when we don't need it
By default stable diffusion models use random seed it means whenever you create the new prompt with same prompt each time it will provide the differen image, but in backend if the setting up the seed manually with the same numbe to tack the same prompt it means it will provide the same image again and again but would add the changes you want to add.
Glad to see Andrew, David and now Ellis in color! Because usually they are SO white that you might as well be watching the video in monochromatic! Thanks, summer!
My interpretation of the speed of sound bit is that it can do processing 90 times as fast as the rate the audio is playing. So for instance if you give it 1 millisecond of audio it'd take 1/90 of a millisecond to process it. Could be wrong though, that's a super weird phrase.
22:20 the weight distribution should be the reason why they stacked the cameras close to the right side of the fold; to make it easer to hold with right hand only.
1:18:57 I'm guessing the "faster than speed of sound" claim is about latency. The signal moves from your phone to your ears and gets converted into audio faster than it would take sound from your phone speakers to travel the same distance (assuming the phone is, say, 1 foot from your head).
Regarding the Fold's camera arrangement, I bet that with the narrowing of the body and with installing decent cameras in it without bulging them out even more, it was just too hard to fit them horizontally. I bet David is right about it coming too close to the hinge mechanism, and looking at the camera sizes they went for, I don't see how they would fit them in a line.
It processes audio 90 times faster than the speed of sound, meaning incoming sound for noise cancelation... They're saying it's able to process and cancel noise at a higher speed for more effective noise cancellation
The fact that Google played with its competitors' products to demonstrate its new product's functionalities was a stark reminder, "I'm one of the best software service providers penetrating a phone market with one of the best phone product". And truth is, they are gradually gaining the market share👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I think the reason for them being so focused on AI was because of the way OpenAI tried to mess with their timing by doing their AI event just before the Gemini event. So Google was like lets choose a time where they think we will just talk about phones and that way they'll not be able to mess with us. What do you guys think?
I thought they tired to imply that if you consider how fast sound moves in a second, the earphones will sample and process sound faster than sound actually moves past the devices. So it will essentially sample the same sound wave multiple times before it moves on ...not sure I make any sense haha Id definilty use screenshots. Can stiop leaving chrome tabs open for things I want to remember
Here is something that wasn’t covered by Google or, the Team there. Google is selling these phones with “One Year Of Gemini Premium” which covers some of the features that were announced. So which one, or how many of these Gemini features are going to disappear after that first year? Google never said what Premium Features are covered under that umbrella. You guys described all of these cool features, what would you think if half of them were taken away after the first year unless you pay for them?
Also, i'm glad there were flaws during the live presentation. Im glad Google were ok with it too because thats the way of the world, especially with generative AI in phones being so new, it is still very much in its experimental phase really
Two features I'd probably appreciate is the call record/notes when talking to clients. Does it work with Google Voice too? And I like the idea of the screenshots all. Having to navigate through google photos is annoying. Being one clock away now is nice.
I was thinking about various use cases for the screenshot app while you guys were discussing it, and the story about David's suit ripping mid-air completely distracted me 😂😂😂😂😂😂

you don't really get a pixel at full price, thats a fact. They almost always have some massive deal going on or carriers price them very cheap.
Finally been waiting days for a new episode
The prices for the new Pixel devices is what made me lose interest completely. I'd rather buy a previous gen Pixel for like 400-500 max. Currently on the 7 and it's been a gem.
It’s finally the weekend guys in the UK! and it starts with the amazing Waveform ❤
This episode was the exact time length it took me to make my lunch and eat it. Vibes! 🎉
Loved seeing Adam in that Real Madrid jersey 🤩🤘🏾
I personally think the best way to do a foldable phone is the Surface Duo way. Two screens for multitasking is key.
When I wake up and the podcast isn't out yet, I'm CONVINCED it's not Friday.
So excited to see Adam with the Madrid shirt. ¡Hala Madrid y nada más! Vamosssssss
Adam is wearing Real Madrid shirt ❤ hala madrid
Preordered the Pixel 9 Pro, going back to the smaller device, coming from the Pixel 7 Pro. Can't wait!
Pixel 9 Pro Fold: Because one screen just wasn't enough to distract you from your life
awesome guys. i dont watch these events anymore. i just get the good review from you guys
How to get a nice Friday:
Travel ⛔
Video games ⛔
Watch waveform podcast 🗣️🔥☑️
that add me feature for getting people in group photos is actually brilliant
0:38 The look of derision on Marques' face over that Google Picture/Memories comment 😂😂
That screenshot thing already works on my S22 Ultra with websites. If you take a screenshot in chrome, it saves the web data with the photo. If you go back to the screenshots album in gallery and look at that screenshot, there's a button that says "go to website" that takes you back to the page you were at.
Best looking pixel. I like the camera bump on the back. Gives me futurama vibes.
I just ordered my pixel 9 pro XL but I was hoping that Google would come out with their own tracker
Just another awesome podcast episode, guys you are the best 😊❤❤.
Considering switching from Samsung ecosystem to Google (smartphone, watch, buds) should I?🤔🤔
And yeah keep it up 🤟🤟💪💪
Now they can get the data of screenshots too. What a great idea
3 rd time watching this .... I can't send money but I can watch you're entire video library over and over because the team Marquis built is the very best...thanks for everything guys . Sincerely Saylor
I’d probably only use add me every now and then. On rare occasion. But you guys hit the nail on the head this podcast 👌🔥👌🔥
My interpretation of the speed of sound bit is that it can do processing 90 times as fast as the rate the audio is playing. So for instance if you give it 1 millisecond of audio it'd take 1/90 of a millisecond to process it. Could be wrong though, that's a super weird phrase.
Love Adam with the Madrid Jersey ❤🔥
22:20 the weight distribution should be the reason why they stacked the cameras close to the right side of the fold; to make it easer to hold with right hand only.
1:18:57 I'm guessing the "faster than speed of sound" claim is about latency. The signal moves from your phone to your ears and gets converted into audio faster than it would take sound from your phone speakers to travel the same distance (assuming the phone is, say, 1 foot from your head).
Adam Hala Madrid! Nice jersey..siiiiiiiiiii!!...salute from Madrid, Spain 🇪🇦...ordered my Pixel 9 PRO XL 512gb Hazel color arrives August 22nd!
OMG HOW CRAZY YOU WERE NEXT TO THE WINDOW WHEN THE CAM TOOK A PIC?! WOW!
I would use "add me" feature all the time - taking dual photos of me. I am getting so many ideas already
I thought they tired to imply that if you consider how fast sound moves in a second, the earphones will sample and process sound faster than sound actually moves past the devices. So it will essentially sample the same sound wave multiple times before it moves on ...not sure I make any sense haha
Id definilty use screenshots.
I was thinking about various use cases for the screenshot app while you guys were discussing it, and the story about David's suit ripping mid-air completely distracted me 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am happy I am not the only one that saw the Gemini push
