  • A lot of you have discussed the topic of cross shopping between a Lexus LC500 and a Porsche 911 Carrera. I hope to make your decision a little easier after watching this video, as I cover some of the most important factors when considering these two 2+2 sport coupes. The 911 is the quintessential sport coupe, that many manufacturers use as a benchmark. If people have began to consider the LC500 against the 911, then that means that Lexus did something good. Each one will have its positives and negatives, and it's ultimately up to you to make that final decision as to what you want to get. Hope you enjoy this video and let me know in the comments your thoughts on these two!

    After spending a lot of time researching, a test drive of both the LC500 and 911 made my decision easy.
    I ended up getting a red LC500.
    I don't need to feel like I'm driving on the track every day. I think a comfortable, reliable car that also handles well is more important.
    There's also the wow factor for the LC, both inside and out. Unless you truly need a precise engaging drive, it's a no brainer.
    The LC500 is one of the best cars ever made.

      Yes, you couldn't have said it any better. The 911 is a scalpel, but when are you truly going to use it to its full potential? LC500 is a perfect combination of performance and comfort. Thanks for your input!👍

    I'm a current Porsche owner (Cayman S, not 911), and am here because I saw my first LC yesterday and was blown away. I love Porsche, and think it has a unique look and refinement that other brands don't capture, but I have to admit the LC is mesmerizingly beautiful. Plus from owning Lexus in the past, I know the quality and luxury of the brand is unquestionable. If I wanted performnce in a bit higher luxury spec than Porsche, this woudl be the car.

    • @RichWithCars
      @RichWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well said. Specifically the LC500 brings the refinement, design and sportiness all together in one package. Don't get me wrong though, Porsche is solid from A to Z, but having sat in both, it doesn't give you that sense of occasion that the LC does.

      @@RichWithCars Yeah Porsche has better performance and superior tech
      But LC500 has the edge in ride quality and considerably better interior fit / finish
      Only way for Porsche to be close in terms of fit and finish/overall quality is if you get the club leather options for like 5k and spend an additional 10k+ on the extended leather packages. But then you're talking like 30-40 k more than the LC500

      I don't know about status- to anyone but a car enthusiast, it's just another Porsche (and the status/perception is generally negative anyway). The 911 is a classic and absolutely has a top notch performance driving experience... it is not, however, a unique looking vehicle (exterior, interior) or a top notch comfort and luxury experience. The 911 below the S sounds pretty mediocre and even the S or above sounds just "ok".

    Good report, very enjoyable. A 1979 3.6 liter 911SC was my daily wheels for 13 years. Loved it, tracked it, long distance, everything. If I were to go ahead today I'd buy the LC 500 and when I felt to urge to get on the track with a sports car I'd book 1-2 days at the Porsche Experience in Atlanta or Corvette Experience in Las Vegas. With that out of my system, the Lexus sounds like the way to go - GT or street. BTW, Car & Driver interviewed Mario Andretti in the 1970s and asked him which car he would prefer for a coast-to-coast trip in the the US. His answer: Cadillac.

      @RichWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow - sounds like you really got the maximum use out of that 1979 911SC! If I owned any version of the 911, I'd definitely take it to the track a few times per year. I still haven't taken the opportunity of attending one of those Experience events (whether Porsche, Corvette or even Lexus - yes they have one as well), but it's on my list! I'm quite surprised that Andretti, such a huge car aficionado would name Cadillac as his coast-to-coast cruiser - I'd expect more like a Vette, or Porsche!

    As a former Z guy (3 variants), I just purchased the LC500 2024 edition as my new Z. Some months ago, I had purchased a 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF as my next Z and found it to be an excellent sports/luxury car blend that is very enjoyable to own and drive. I can recommend the MX-5 as the best sports car for the price point ($30-40K). I had previously reviewed and liked the LC500 but was annoyed by the electronics in the platform. And to my surprise, Lexus Corporate listened to the market and updated the infotainment for 2024. So the Miata is now going to find a new home and the LC500 has earned a spot in the garage. Having owned and driven many vehicles over my baby boomer life, the LC500 is the penultimate Lexus blend of GT/LS art/engineering and is actually priced well, with respect to the competition. I own a 991.2 Gts and a 2020 lc500. Never did I cross shopped these 2. The 911 came first as it’s the gold standard sports car/semi gt when you need it to be. The rear engine dynamics is completely different and driving feel. The Lexus is a dam beautiful Japanese crafted machine that I use for when I prioritize a soft plush ride and over stated luxury and comforts for them non sporty days. If I had to keep one, it’d easily be the 911 but add a lc500 as a stable mate and you’re in automotive heaven.

    Yea you are cross shopping these. Im an owner of a 22 LC500 coupe and i did cross shop the 2CS 7MT. I actually test drove both cars, (LC500 vs 2CS AT) no MT was available for test and honestly found them both to fantastic drivers cars. Im a car guy and having driven porsches of the 90's and up I'm honestly not that huge a fan of them. I only tried this gen 911 because its the first 911 in a long time i actually like visually. Driving it was meh. Dont let the hype oversell this car boys. Its not THAT great unless you spec it out properly in which case you just dropped 200+ so put all that in perspective. Then driving and i mean DRIVING. I tested these cars like i would drive them. I couldn't and didn't want to scare the fuk out of the sales guys so i couldn't get to the limit but for the average person "dick" driving is equal in both cars. Meaning don't let anyone tell you the LC cant hang cause it can. Ive not taken either to the track so i cant comment on all out performance that others say the LC is to heavy for. I would tho! Just haven't got there yet. I picked the LC because its rare. They only sell ~1500/year while the 911 does ~10k. I literally rolled into a gas station in my Infrared LC at night and saw the jaw on this dude pumping gas literally DROP. You wont see that in a 911. YOU WONT! Kids wave at me, men and boys stare, women give you compliments to the moon. If i had a 911 id be a dick no one would give a fuk for. Then when i roll up to a scat pack, GT, SS, Ftype, Type R, WRX, STI, Golf R.... ill smoke em all. And i have. All those cars listed have been victims. The scat pack was fun. He wanted and i gave him 3 pulls unto which he lost. 🤣. Thats why LC500 🥰😘😘😘

      Says who .... Jeremy and Chris? When the bar is set so low by certain brands, then I guess anything is accepted as "Reliable!
      How many class action suits has Porsche had to deal with in recent years?
      How many IMS bearing and scored cylinders has Toyota/Lexus or Honda or the GTR/Skyline had to deal with? And that's before we get to the hideous electrical gremlins that Porsche suffer from.
      And let's be honest, we're talking about the brand who brought us the 924, 944 and 928, that were as reliable as a politician's promise, and the 911 has been no better ... it's just been marketed well, and the sheeple have fallen for it!
      It's like Mercedes, who in the 90's, fell to the bottom of the reliability rankings, and to counter that, they simply stuck AMG badges on every other car, and got Jeremy to film exciting shots of him oversteering the cars every other week ... and got the people to focus on Nürburgring lap time, rather than the fact of how much the dealer is going to take you to the cleaners the next time your car is serviced!
      Now most of the low end Mercs are stuffed with Renault engines which breakdown more than Jordan Peterson talking about the fallen state of young, white males ...
      As for BMW, name me a BMW M-car that hasn't had anything but catastrophic engine issues, be it in 6-8-10 cylinder form. And in comparison, name me a variant of the 2JZ that has or had Crank Hub issues?
      As for the VW 911, I'm in contact with quite a few VW Boxster to 911 owners, including members of my family, and see how regularly they have to go back to the dealers to fix their; oh so expensive purchases.
      When it comes to this myth of German reliability, my question is always the same; where is this famous German reliability, because I can't see evidence of it anywhere within the last 30 years!
      Diesel gate, clogged direct injected engines, VW gearbox issues, Mercedes SL with $20,000+ repair bills, £15,000 fixes for Porsche scoring problems, BMW V8 and V10 bearing failures ... when it comes to the disaster that is German Engineering, the list goes on and on!
      It seems with certain brands, a high price does not imply reliability!

      Unfortunately not. Many others have been hoping/waiting for a performance mod for the LC, but nothing yet. Reason for this is because the ECU has been very difficult to crack. Tune by LOI has a potential crack on the ECU, but only 1 owner has confirmed it. Aside from that, don't expect to get much for performance upgrades. Your average Porsche moron is usually exceeding the speed limit by 40 mph which means he is traveling anywhere from 100-150 feet per second. I wonder what kind of tragedy can happen when you take your eyes off the road for two seconds. Hmmm??? On the other hand, the best car made has VOICE COMMAND. For 99.95% of anything you want or desire the car to do, you simply press the TALK BUTTON and tell the car what it is you want it to do. Your eyes never leave the road and your hands never leave the steering wheel. That doesn't mean a tragedy can't happen but it does mean at least you'll be aware of something that needs your immediate attention. Unfortunately, most people are idiots and don't realize Lexus offers this feature, so they criticize the infotainment system as being hard to use when the exact opposite is true. In the four plus years I've owned my LC, I've used the trackpad less than ten times and never while driving. It could be possible that while you're out and about a sudden cold snap swoops in and CLIMATE CONCIERGE doesn't warm the seats enough to you liking. If that's the case, you simply say "Show Seat Warming Screen" and then slide your fingers up a bit. There are literally thousands of VOICE COMMANDS and once you learn "the basics", there isn't much that can't be done. So again, the German hunk of crap loses.

    • @RichWithCars
      @RichWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of all - I enjoy your long comments - THANK YOU!
      I wouldn't say that about Porsche drivers, but more so of the BMW drivers 🤔 - being careless on the road. Yes, you're right about the voice commands, but the only downside about the LC voice system, is that you have to learn how to communicate with it. The new Lexus infotainment will understand more conversational speech - thus not having us owners "learn its language". After reading your comment, I tried voice commanding my LC to bringing me to the seat climate control screen - it took me 3 tries to get it to understand my command - tried different iterations of saying the same thing. It's definitely is worth the time to learn some of its general commands to get you to the right screen, as it cuts down on the number of clicks you need to go through the track pad.

    Completely different cars. LC500 is pure GT, long distance cruiser and a lovely V8. The 911 is a sports car with agility and driving enjoyment as its focus. I'd have both. I have a tuned 911 Turbo (730bhp) and am considering an LC500 coupe as a companion car. A better comparison for the Lexus would be a BMW 850. The design focus of the 911 is totally different.

    14:30 Ill agree about the "connection" but that does not translate to faster. Some cars feel faster driving slow than a slow car driving fast if that makes any sense. The LC does things w/out you knowing if you were in the 911 also if that makes any sense. Does that mean its faster? NO its not. And I'm not talking racing cause i know a 911 will roast an LC at the track. I know that. But for 90% of you guys driving 80% of the time. THEY ARE THE SAME in speed and performance ability. How they do that is different. One lets you feel it, the other hides it from you. Is one better than the other? HELL YEA but that's on you.

      I honestly dont track my LC i drive it so it needs to print on the street and it does in spades even tho on a spec sheet its not as good. Thats balls to the wall racing. Are you planning to do that every time you get in? I don't think so. And I'm an aggressive driver. I drive balls to the wall race mode 10% of the time which is probably a lot for most ppl. The rest is aggressive driving i did in a Lexus UX chasing after a ZO6 at 130mph on the highway. LOL talk about HILLARITY on sitlits. That stupid little thing did the business but only because i was making it dance. My point is the driver is a huge part of the equation ppl think they get those numbers out of the box but the driver getting those numbers was a professional on a perfect track on perfect tires in a perfect setting. Reality is real and those numbers fall off the page.
