It's unfortunate in this country Jay. Being an island recieving lots of rain it's full of salt. And in the winter we have all the salt put onto the roads. Doesn't help with the bodywork, especially if you have a few chips.
@@larryjimbob Pretty sure it's the salting of the roads in winter that does it - I live in New Zealand - even lived within a kilometer of the beach for 4 years - like the UK, we get a lot of rain too - have never had problems with rust since the 90's when most manufacturers started proper galvanization. I work on my own cars too, and even my 20 year old Toyota, you get underneath it, every single bolt is rust free. Only bit of rust on my 15 year old Lexus was a bit under the battery tray about the size of a coin which I presume has been caused by a leaking battery at some point. Funny thing is, even in the South Island here, they don't salt the road in winter - they manage with ploughs and grit - the grit is nasty stuff for paintwork and moving parts - but I still prefer it to salt.
Jay, I don't follow your channel religiously but I enjoy it every time I watch. Thank you. I said it before and I'll say it again: Don't ever apologise for doing what you like. You create something that people want and you should be proud to be rewarded for it. Your Ferrari, your dream, is earned by you. F.... the haters.
Anyone that makes a success out of whatever they choose to do for a living has the right to choose how and what they spend their money on that gives them joy and pleasure
@@JayEmmOnCars mate i’ll see your 9k and raise you another 9800 And welcome to the wonderful world of Bentley ownership (in particular Bentley of Surrey great lads in all honesty ) so my GTC I was driving it like a 40 something who has the emotional age of a five year old and I floored the very heavy vehicle over the top of the a hill smashing past some degenerate in a c63 . I couldn’t resist it. The next day I heard from the rear of the vehicle a loud hissing noise it was quite peculiar , checked the tyres which were fine hissing continued went to the suspension setting where you can raise it up. Car wouldn’t move what I’d done going over the top of the hill at Mach 2.5 must have damaged the air suspension unit you’ve got a lot of Bentley though they don’t replace one they replace both they come as full units so just because the unit on the left have gone they also had to replace the entire unit . Now Bentley assistance is something else it really is something else firstly they recover the vehicle and they give me an Audi S6 as a courtesy car delivered to my holiday home in Wales recovered the Bentley from my holiday home in Wales and take the vehicle back to Bentley Surrey all good so far . As the vehicle was coming towards the end manufacture warranty they give the car a full health check ( thank God for warranty, I’m gonna say that one again thank God for warranty) and away they go the service manager asked could he just fix everything that was under warranty and my replies why not . that three weeks later got my GTC returned and the bill was eye watering. They had gone through every single part of the car which was under warranty that could be replaced. The air suspension unit alone was just under 6000 Without labour . Some gold plated connectors in the engine new radiator they went they did everything that was under warranty cough, cough, nudge, nudge wink wink if you get my drift. 18800 pounds was the final bill I would’ve been heartbroken if that was not under warranty in fact I was buying aftermarket warranty. I like what you say about the Lexus that’s a nice car and I’m very tempted myself. My wife has Lexus RX nothing nothing nothing ever ever ever touchwood goes wrong, great channel mate
To buck the status quo, I'm British and would like to wish you every success. You've worked hard.. Now play hard. Enjoy your content and always look forward to your vids👍
I actually placed an order for an orange LC 500 after seeing your review for it and absolutely loving the colour! Unfortunately, they cancelled the 2023 MY, and orange was no longer an option. However, I'm happy with the 360 camera as a consolation on a red model. After travelling almost 10k miles in the last 8 months with lots of continental Europe driving, I can't imagine a better car for my needs. I want to get an F12 or an 812 eventually, but the only value add they have over LC is the 12 cylinder music and the Ferrari experience (which will be worth it, eventually). Otherwise, having sat in an 812 and a GTC4Lusso at the dealers, I left much more satisfied with the LC's interior. I remember the dealer telling me excitedly about the alcantara seats, and I said, "Oh nice! Just like my LC." I'm sure the owner's spec is partly to blame, but the interior was slightly below what I feel the LC gives. Another factor that makes the LC more reasonable for me is that one of the joys of these GTs is going on continental road trips, and with Lexus' engine tech, atkinson/otto cycle switching and cylinder deactivations, I can average 8.4l/100km over a 4000km trip (about 1600 of which is off-motorway). I get to rip through mountain roads and make some noise in town at 20l/100km when I want, but also go on long trips without feeling like I'm burning money (including worrying about depreciation). I remember an interview with whatever director was responsible for the LC and he talked about how it wasn't made with a spec sheet in mind, all the design choices Lexus made were considering overall ownership experience, both performance/sound/fun and reliability and daily-ability. I feel like all the choices they made match the things I value from my car. Edit to add: my profile photo is of my LC at the foot of Sustenpass, CH.
Love your description of the LC and the benefits you found with it. I recently got an IS-F and the engine is a great piece of tech, fun and dynamic! Definitely feeling the need for an LC500 in the future but currently have other impractical cars I might have to address first :)
I personally love the content and your honest portrayal of Ferrari ownership. I also like the fact you address the negative comments fairly. Keep up the great contact. I watch every video
I don't care what you own, what's great about this channel is your attitude to cars, and car ownership in general. I love how you'll have a video on the costs associated with a Ferrari vs the joy of owning it, and the next video could be on a Dacia, and you still find joy in the driving. You're are a true enthusiast, and that's what keeps me watching. It's good to see you realise some of your dreams, and share them in an entertaining fashion. 👏
Keep the F12, do the 100k miles. I'm sure if you sold it, you'd miss it way more than the 550 or 430 Scud. It's a very special (V12) Ferrari. Talking to a car dealer friend last week - As prices continue to tumble, I look at the likes of the Portafinos and even Romas hitting the £130k - £140k and start to get tempted. I said to my dealer friend its a real shame that good F12s are still £150k plus. He remarked.... the fact that F12 prices are holding when others are not is the very reason to buy an F12 and not the others. Keep the F12 it will always be a sort after car worth good money. Enjoy it.
Hiya James. John from London here. I'm an avid petrolhead like you. Anyway, you do what you do, as you love driving and giving us the joy of driving when you publish these videos. A car, whether it's a Ferrari,a BMW or what have you, is always bound to have issues. At the moment, you are in the right time in your life as you can look out for them and fix them. The naysayers can all go and do one. Keep on with what you can, because we're only here on this Earth for a short amount of time, so take it as it comes. Personally I think the Lexus is a stunning car. But your F12, is beautiful! Oh, and go 100,000 miles in the F12. We'll all love it!
Do love a Japanese V8. Also a bit of ball tickling. I had a GS450h, which had "nanoe" aircon which was apparently moisturising (to be fair, it seemed effective, my Porsche turned my hands into the atacama desert). It also had ventilated seats. That meant: it literally moisturised your arsehole while driving. That wasn't how they marketed it though, which always disappointed me. I presume the LC500 will have that too, so it probably is one of the closest things you can get to literal ball-tickling from a Japanese V8, since massage seats just get your back. Or, in the case of French cars, the massage seats are the best approximation of a child kicking your seat from behind, but based on how the French drive it's probably not surprising that the idea of "relaxation" isn't something they do well in cars, at least recently...
Hey Jay, LC500 owner here. Can I just say I love ferraris too and would love to own a V12 versioned one (or perhaps a pista/speciale) someday. I can understand why someone might ask you to substitute one for another, but it would take an owner to understand they're not quite sitting in the same category. But having said that, would love to see you own an LC500 one day too, seeing as you do love it so much. Cheers
Jay, the F12 is to impress others, the LC500 is to impress yourself. So I understand if you think you won't get as many views with the LC500, but it is a proper special car that deserves owning at least once. Trust me on this. Thanks again.
You’ve been successful because you are good at your job. Great content and honest views. Jealousy is a nasty thing but all too common. My Vantage is now on 120k miles and no issues since I bought it - tyres and brakes only. Go for the 100k !
I'm so pleased I found you on TH-cam - someone that speaks my language when it comes to having, experiencing, enjoying and most of all doing the right thing for the car no matter what it takes. You're a joy to watch and listen too. 🇬🇧👍
Take it to 100k! Why the hell not? Like you (and others) have said, "cars are meant to be driven." I've really enjoyed your content over the years. Looking forward to more - Keep up the good work!
I am fully behind you on this idea of at least once owning a beautiful Ferrari like this one and enjoying it and using it to its fullest! It is a special treat for me as well whenever I see these spectacular cars on the road. I personally don't have my sights on them in the future, but I am an engineering nut and I love that they exist!
Thanks for the great content as every James. Don't worry about the naysayers. You put as much passion into your F12 content as the ZT-T the other day. Well done. As Mr Glinckenhaus said, if he was a man of modest means he would probably have an MGB. There's joy to be had at every price point.
Good for you Jay. You’ve worked hard and earned your money. It’s your prerogative to spend it on what you like and how you like. Rise above the negatives who have never had and never will have. Live your life, enjoy it and stand or fall by your own decisions. Well done and best of luck on your future car journey
Most people in the comments just compain about things they have no actual experience with. That's why I like you and your content, you are showing the real side of ownership and putting your money where your mouth is. I own a 2015 Maserati Quattroporte and public opinion is that all Maserati's are garbage. I haven't had any issues other than routine maintenance, and I drive it everyday, all year, in a 4 season state in the US.
That's cool to hear! With regular maintenance, any car will last long enough. But sadly, a good number of people just don't want to put that much effort.
Maseratis are great cars, all of them. They are just too expensive and the vast majority of the public have never seen one in person, let alone driven one or owned one.
I was one of the people moaning about the servicing cost in the last video. It's very cool how you directly address plonkers like myself when we didn't fully understand a point you made. 🙏🏿
When they come down in price I wanna get an LC500. £500 for a wheel speed sensor is a rip off though, it's a £20 part and takes about 10 minutes to replace on most cars. I took them out and cleaned them on my XKR and that took about 10 minutes each and they where rusted in-place. I would love to see a 100k mile Ferrari though.
I have to admit, even as an avid car fan... Strangely I've never wanted to own a Ferrari, for me part of the package does have to be build quality and reliability, two things that have to match the amazing sound and looks that a Ferrari undoubtedly can provide. I've often thought of Ferrari as for people that want heads to turn and be seen, with Porsche for people who want to drive yet not attract too much attention. But everybody has their own thoughts and that's the joy of life.
Me too, I think that eventually, if I had the funds for one super car, I would buy the Porsche (but always dream of the GT4Lusso v12). Unless you have too much free time and passion to take care of them, or you have a collection of such cars and therefore someone (or more) to take care of the cars, it does not worth the effort. I own a Lexus RX, reliable, sensible, I love the LC, but I really dislike the interior.
ferrari is a totally different animal than porsche; it’s an occasion car. porsche is just a simple german sports car. new ferraris are kinda trash though imo
Agreed, I know someone who owns a Portofino that had a bunch of problems that I’ve seen firsthand. For the money I’d get a GT3 as boring as that sounds. Coming from an Italian in LOVE with Ferrari and what it represents
@@jeririce4928 I do not disagree, but I would only buy a Ferrari as a kind of "daily" as well. Not just for 1-2 rides /month. That is why I would only get a GT4lusso (got a small family) or a "compact" one like a Portofino or Roma. Not the "exotic" ones. These for me are "too much" and kind of show-off (my humble opinion).
@@davu6712 Ah! Portofino perhaps my favorite modern Ferrari (alongside GT4lusso as I mentioned). Such a pitty to hear it has problems, considering that it is a kind of sensible and car for daily use... I guess it should be simpler and more reliable.
It would make sense to me to replace the DB9 with the Lexus. You already have one 730bhp V12 and one 500-ish bhp manual V12. The Lexus is a fabulous thing, especially with the shorter geared diff from the hybrid V6 version, and some engine mods.
@@TheFlyingClutchman there is a hybrid V6 LC with the 2GR coupled to a CVT and a shorter geared diff than the V8. A lot of V8 owners swap in the V6 diff gearset to liven their cars up
I’d absolutely watch even more of your videos if you purchased an LC 500. Only bc you don’t see them on TH-cam as owned vehicles. So watching a year or two unfold of ownership and if they do truly hold up to the Lexus standard would be hella interesting. Not that I don’t love your Ferrari’s
My old boss used to buy TWO of each Ferrari he wanted, one was kept low mileage and the other was his daily which he'd often rack up 100k miles plus, he told me Ferrari would then give him a very favourable deal part exchanging the high miler to deconstruct it and see how it had faired. He never once said any were less than reliable.
If you have enough money you could always buy in pairs. One for show, and one for go. That’s not a problem if you’re rich enough. But why would he do that. What was the point of having a zero mile Ferrari behind doors? By the sound of it it seems he bought pairs several times. That might mean he got rid of the old pair, and the no mile car at 3-4-5 yrs old surely wouldn’t have appreciated to an extent that this was a financially wise thing to do? He maybe just wanted a clean one to look at and drive the dirty one he never had to wash😂
@@1968spikeyinvestment value Ferraris are generally the worst to daily driver. A 360 stradale as a daily? Yea if you live in the Alps. Otherwise why. It's silly. Now you gonna tell me the boss commutes on the Nurburging or something😂
@@TsLengi know a guy who daily his 488 Pista. When asked about his experience, he said the bumpy road mode is a must and the dual clutch is surprisingly smooth for town use. He changed the Pista's tires to more civil Michelins bcos it rains a lot in my country, and also last longer
Exactly, owning a Ferrari means you are primarily into BDSM and the dealership is the dominatrix. Owning a Lexus means you are primarily into cars and the dealership is a service facility. 👍
Lexus=vanilla, got it ;) to stretch the analogy further, you should date at least one crazy, hot, crazy hot freak in your life, but settle down with someone more reliable.
That and you Lexus owner circle jerk committee telling themselves constantly how great and clever they are.... That's why I wouldn't own a Lexus (aside from the LFA but those are like hens teeth) because their owners are completely insufferable smug clowns.
Meanwhile owning an Lexus means you become so insufferably smug that most of car community thinks you're beyond irritating. “I’ve owned my Lexus 50 years and it's done 500 million miles and all I've changed is the oil” is the kind of nonsense you hear from them.
Toyota and Lexus is a great vehicle for the car enthusiast. I was a serial LS400 owner, so I always got to work on time and never had to worry about transportation. This allowed me to enjoy and indulge in all sorts of aged and odd and classic and unreliable enthusiast cars and wrench on them at my leisure.

Keep Up The Great Work, Build a Garage for Your Cars, And Don’t Ignore The Huge Market For Your Videos that is The USA!!!!
Literally my thoughts when I was watching your other F12 video yesterday: why don't you get an LC? I'm a recent convert to the church of Lexus and therefore more fanatical than most OG's. But man, it's great to have a car just work without weird crap and unacceptable failures.
@@gaara4667 it all depends on the depth of your pockets when it comes to maintenance and repairs, but on a like for like car base, I agree with you of course.
@@zarbon700 but Ferrari would be out of business🤣 driving it like a Lexus or not, their pockets are deep enough to buy it, maintain it and insure it so it’s all good. 👏🏿
Back in 1995 I Was 19 years old working a lowly fuel pump attendant job on night shifts. I saw early and mid 80's 7 series BMW's pull into the garage for a fill-up, and back then I put the 7 Series on my bucket list. A few years ago I realized my dream of owning a Volvo when I bought a S60 Polestar Edition. I was heartbroken when I had to sell it. My sons grew too tall and simply couldn't get into the back seats anymore. For 2 years I drove around in a fuel-guzzling, lumbering, swaying Jeep Grand Cherokee. Late last year I declared. Enough of that nonsense. I want to enjoy my daily drive once again. And I got myself a 2014 BMW 740i Hybrid Active. In the short space of time I've had it I needed to replace a water pump, and a quite important auto gearbox part. Yet, even with those expensive fixes, this BMW puts a smile on my face every single time I push that start button, and the memory seat I am in starts to hug me from behind. Pure bliss...when driving it in a civilized manner...and when making it crunch tarmac with a 0-60 of 5.2 secs. Another tickbox done on my car bucketlist. Eventually I will own an M5, and an actual Volvo S60 Polestar...not just the special edition I once had. But for now...I'm in love with my white knight from Germany.
I’ve driven lots of brands of ‘daily’ cars in my 34ish years of driving, and I’ve found Toyotas most reliable. The time I’ve saved NOT going to the garage has been priceless for me , apart from servicing of course. That is time I can spend with my family. They’re stupendously reliable, much more than the Porsches or BMWs I’ve had. Shocking the problems I had with those. Stupid problems that I had with seventies and eighties cars, I had with them. The amount of stress and lost time-who needs that?? The Ferrari is beautiful, and it’s own car, just like the Lexus is.
That's my main concern with getting a sports car even if it's reasonable and the same cost as an average truck these days. I feel like it'd be weird especially if extended family who aren't doing as well know about it. How has it been for you so far?
Completely agree that lack of use is the biggest factor. Recently saw advert for a Daytona with 30,000 miles on it, 50 years old!! Can't imagine that would be too reliable! I owned a 456 GTA for a number of years, lovely, but not reliable in the slightest. But chat to other owners and they all had the same ownership experience. I've got a DB9 now, and it's a better car by miles, especially for a car from a similarly sized manufacturer!
Buy what you love. Your life. love the enthusiasm for seeing a Noble etc. We used to get that way seeing a BDA Escort, or Lotus Éclat, or an Alfa Romeo…
Hi Jay, just wanted to say that you are far the most sensible TH-cam car guy I follow, perhaps sometimes even too sensible :D. Also props to you for being so transparent and and objective. Keep it up
Jay, I love your approach to car ownership! If you like it and are in a position to own it, then you should enjoy it. I am not in the same place where I can own my dream cars, but the car I do own is one I get great joy from. At the end of the day it is your money, your life and your choice.
I've owned both brands, 2007 Lexus LS460 and a 2008 Ferrari 599 GTB. Had the Lexus 3 years and got rid of it, Drivers door wind noise that could never be fixed only to be told by a service writer later that it was design flaw that was later corrected, Headlights that went bad and dealer wanted an arm and leg to fix etc.. So sorry I don't get the Lexus quality argument at all. My 599 GTB was bullet proof, had it 4 years put over 14,000 miles on her and she ran like a top. One new battery (not a Ferrari issue) and regular oil changes is all I dealt with. Oh and when I sold it I got more than I paid for it. The only lexus you can say that about is the LFA...
Should've got the GS460.. no wind noise, better aero, no sacrificial lower bushings etc, corners better, weighs less. But a 599 GTB is a different car lol. Enjoy
Appreciate your perspective and honesty Jay. There are lots of people who despise the success of others which is sad, but ultimately, unimportant. Your Ferrari clearly brings you great joy, which is kinda the point. Well done.
James - I’m enjoying your stuff more & more. The contrast between high value and ‘ordinary’ is spot on. You’re right: haters love to hate, but your honesty shines through. We spend far more than we should keeping 3 old Porsche cars going - what’s important to me & my wife is that they’re ‘ours’, they’re paid for and that they all have sentimental value to us (& they’re all great/different to drive). Clichéd last sentence: keep up the good work!
I loved my LC500, useless rear seats mind. I’ll own another again some day. I do think it needed a slightly more compliant ride. As road noise and general harsh ride seemed quite unlexus like. But the exhaust note was to die for. However I think it’s an unfair comparison against a Ferrari. Totally different customers & price.
The fact that you’ve spent all the time and money to fix every imperfection on the F12 really shows how much you’re in love with this amazing piece of machinery and that’s why you should totally go for the 100,000 miles challenge. We’ll all be here to witness the journey and applaud if you can make it!!
I agree; practicality won't check the box when we leave this life. When you look back every night at your car and smile, that's the telltale sign you made the right decision. I asked myself the same. Ran the numbers and tried to make an educated decision. LC500 is a great car but Ferrari is the the dream. Keep Driving!
I think at the end of the day, we all have rediciulous opinions to certain brands, don't we. However, It's amazing to see you driving around in my dream car. That's the one. I hope you keep enjoying it
Keep up the great work, I’ve been watching for numerous years and happy for the garage you’ve built. You’re buying the cars you love, take the F12 to 100k. As a Brit in the US I never understand the jealousy that comes with others, you’ve worked hard and earned what you have, you do you. No need to justify it to the masses.
Geez, maybe it’s because I’m a Yank but I honestly enjoy and admire seeing a self made man enjoying the fruits of their labor. It’s especially impressive when you’ve done it on your own building your own brand/co. So no sneering from this side of the pond but hearty thumbs up👍🏻
I would love to see you do 100k miles on it! Its not just that Ferrari owners think they will fall apart with miles, but more often its the dealer and culture determined valuations that force beautiful works of functional art to maintain garage queen mileage status in hopes of slowing depreciation.
People who tell other people what to do, think or say should simply be ignored. I’m amazed that you are willing to spend your valuable time replying to those prejudices, knowing full well that these people will not change their mind no matter what the facts may be. I applaud you for trying though. And please don’t get out of the F12 for the sake of content. Greetings from a fellow Ferrari owner.
I don't know if he actually replies. But it does make great content when he talks about it. I have friends asking what's happening with my car all the time. When I'm getting something else. Or if I'm getting rid of it now I have a company car. And that I might as well get rid of my motorbike. It drives me mad.
You got the 100k miles and I’m happy you have the opportunity to own this car. Seems you enjoy it and I love that you share the experience with us!!! 🎉❤
Also, you can see you have caught my attention with your 100 thousand mile idea. Doesn’t every car guy in the world want to know how much your car is worth after living what I can only call the 100 thousand mile dream. Damn keep doing what your doing, I think your on to something here. Respect.
F12 is my dream: great design, incredible V12 and dual clutch. I went the other way tho and just bought a 24’ LC500 convertible? Living in super dry Southern California it’d better not show any corrosion any time soon 😂 Love your channel 👍
You bring amazing content to hundreds of thousands of people, and in return you get to own and drive the things you love. Anyone who thinks you don’t deserve your side of that deal is just jealous. You do you, and ignore the naysayers.
When I defrost the rear window of my golf 7 all of the DAB+ radio is terminated as well. Despite it not being red nor italian. this proofs my car is more like a Ferrari then I knew… Cool!
You make a solid argument, and you put it very well. I love cars too, and to see you enjoying yours causes me no pain at all. I can't afforf a Ferrari, or a Lexus, but I do spend more than I should on my cars because it's what I love, it makes me feel good, and I enjoy the sense of kinship with people who do the same.
I like to think of my fav youtubers in a sort of relatability and authenticness. With that, im curious as to an extended opinion on PPF in general. Most people seem to swear by it, yet I've never actually used it and have many questions. Appreciate the vids!
Just keep enjoying living the dream J. Its obvious that low volume high performance cars will cost more to run. What I like is that you share your real world costs so us mere mortals can decide if ownership would ever be possible! Btw even people who can buy cars outright often finance them because they make their money work harder for them in investments and business rather than dumping it in to a depreciating asset.
The radio antenna is built into the window. The defroster lines can cause some electromagnetic interference. That happens on some Japanese cars as well.
I really appreciate the brutal honesty in this one. And the insight of not only your vehicle ownership philosophy but also how British people talk about money.
You’re a good bloke jay, these are expensive cars to own them but you can’t put a price on passion (as long as you aren’t neglecting more important things!). I love my cars, there is always a limit but as long as it keeps putting a smile on my face I’ll pay the price.
Hi James, love your polite rants, each to his own and ignore those who think they know better. Not many critics would refuse a Ferrari if they had the courage and/or the money to finance the courage.
There is corrosion because you're in England. Funny, but it seems like the weather in nearly every exotic car video I've ever seen filmed in the UK is either cloudy or rainy. I bought a new Ferrari 328 GTSi in 1987 and put 87,000 miles on it before selling it 14 years later. The maintenance cost, however, was astronomical. By comparison, my 2020 Corvette C8 has just needed oil changes. You are in love with your Berlinette, and that's great. You're just defending your purchase to us, and yourself. Enjoy it! I love exotics and just bought my third Rolls Royce, a Phantom.
Porsche, as standard, have a 10 year anti-corrosion warranty - aluminium, carbon fibre and magnesium don't rust. 😀 The problem you face is anything before a 458 was fairly hit and miss in regard to long term reliability. Also, you're correct performance cars don't like not being used - this is because its important to get pipework up to temperature (so it doesn't dry and crack) and ensure everything that needs oil is regularly coated in oil via circulation. The Brit penchant for having a go at successful people is always amusing, if you work hard at both school and in life anyone can be successful - however, most make poor decisions, stay put and don't put in the hard yards in the right areas. You are becoming successful, not through luck, but through taking some risk and putting a lot of effort in. Good to see it.
Major props to you James! You are living a life I can only dream of. Your videos are an escape for me and I truly enjoy them. I may envy you but, I am not jealous. You are doing the work and deserve every moment of joy in your cars. Wish there were fewer downers involved but, that is also part of the reality of vehicle ownership. Looking forward to many more videos...
Lexus IS300 Sportcross Rot Box but it is 2004 with 160k miles 😂 other than that utterly reliable for my mum as it’s sat not being driven very much. Lovely 2JZ engine and auto box
Always enjoy the content and the candour of your videos James. Is the reality of your cars being content sources for TH-cam that there is a heavy weighting to how the cars are doing on views? I love that you drive and care deeply for your cars and look forward to what comes next. But as f12 is my poster car, I've loved living vicariously through you so will be sad to see it go
I've had a tiny bit of corrosion on my Audi A5 black edition at the top of the windscreen where it meets the metal thanks to a stone chip. And this is a car that is garaged all winter!
As someone who grew watching Magnum PI, Owning a Ferrari was a dream. However real life bites and I own a Lexus. I can’t fault someone following their dreams.
You're right, all cars have glitches of one kind or another. My own car's remotes have long since failed, and I have a bit of face flannel affixed to the key ring, because if I insert the key into a wet lock when it's been raining, the speedo and rev counter stop working. I then have to remove fuses 25 and 28 to get them going again, the fuses themselves not having blown, so it must be a relay malfunction. At least my regular mechanic chap always knows which is my key amongst the others !
James, please take this car to 100k, and your 550 to 200k!! I was never a massive fan of your F12 until this video, but the older the F12 gets and the higher the millage gets, the more respect I have for it... especially as it is obviously a fan of rock! I've watched every single video of yours pretty much since you started. The 550 is my favourite of all the cars you've owned, please never sell it... that Beemer 535i still sticks in my memories though. P.s Major respect for the dedication to the MGs.
Selfishly, i'm very grateful to your videos that tell me about how much it costs to own a supercar Ferrari or otherwise. It helps me be happy and content with my 4 cyclinder mustang. :) Cheers James. Loved your rant about rocks and rust. Esp w rust in a wet place like Britain, (exactly like here in Michigan) about the only place where i wouldn't expect rust would be the desert (and you'd still have the rock chips lol).
As I've said before, I'm not a Ferrari lover, but I am a lover of your videos about them. Sharing your passion in an entertaining and informative way: long may it continue. 100k miles? Yes! It would be consistent with your philosophy. Drive it and share your enjoyment of it with your viewers.
James, I like your honest review of Ferrari ownership. Your view of maintenance cost as a % of Original MSRP is quite fair. Yacht and jet maintenance are viewed much the same way. The f12 is a GT car and its designed to do many miles (though most Ferrari owners are afraid to). I would love to see you put a good number of miles on it because you can! Im not sure if you have the power 15 warranty or not but I’m pretty sure Ferrari stops renewing coverage at 15 years or 75k miles. So maybe 75k is the magic number. To all of the other critics, many of whom will never drive a Ferrari in their lives. Driving any Ferrari can be a life changing experience regardless of ownership. They just wont understand. Additionally, i like your mix of cars and experiences you share. Car guys are car guys and are allowed to like whatever they want. We are fortunate you share all of the ownership and driving experiences regardless of brand across your chsnnel. So Thank You!
I'd have an LC500 over that F12 any day of the week....BUT, the thing is, I'm NOT you, and if the F12 is the car that makes YOU happy, then that's all you need to consider....in your position, our opinion is meaningless, you worked for it, you run the car you want....
Interesting vid. Thanks. Back in the day, in the Ferrarichat 330 GTC forum, most owners cited myriad 'issues' and reported frequent pricey garage visits / rebuilds. Their cars were/are basically sub-30k-mile garage queens limited to c. 600 miles annually and often stored / inactive for years. And then there was a retired USAF pilot, bought his 330 GTC while stationed in Europe, and he used it as a daily 'leisure car', including long touring trips around Europe and the US (when re-stationed). Mileage? Over 170k hassle-free miles, and counting. And all his car ever needed was sympathetic starting and warm-up, servicing as per Ferrari's schedule and the replacement of normal consumables - eg, tyres, brakes, plugs, belts, etc. So, 100k in an F12? Why not? Go for it - and give yourself a USP in the process 😎
There used to be a purple Lamborghini Diablo just down the road from where I lived in Cambridge. Stunning looking car that always cheered me up when I was on my way to work.
I think the vast majority of us are delighted at your success! Certainly owning an F12 doesn't stop you owning a ZT and Vice-Versa - the great thing is that the content for both cars has been brilliant. Onwards and upwards my friend!
I’ve just subscribed based on the fact that your willing to put 100 thousand miles on your Ferrari. Everybody talks the talk but know body has the guts to do it.

It's unfortunate in this country Jay. Being an island recieving lots of rain it's full of salt. And in the winter we have all the salt put onto the roads. Doesn't help with the bodywork, especially if you have a few chips.
@@larryjimbob there's a joke in there somewhere.
Pocher?! I barely knew her!
I'll throw in that I'm in full support of seeing you take this car to 100,000 miles. Let's do this James!

The air suspension unit alone was just under 6000
Without labour .

We have the same tall poppy syndrome in Australia and I echo these comments.
Just like my LC."
I'm sure the owner's spec is partly to blame, but the interior was slightly below what I feel the LC gives.
NICE!! that orange colour is carnelian red bTW, it's beautiful, but so is the red- red!
Wow That’s 33.5 mpg on a run for UK biased viewers
Thanks John!
If supercars could only have the build quality as a Land Cruiser...
The LC500 does have the build quality of a Land Cruiser
LC500 is the dream...the idea of a Japanese V8 just tickles the balls.
Cheap practical way to enjoy a Japanese V8 is get a Volvo xc90/s80 which has a Yamaha 4.4 lit v8 , get a sports exhaust and hard to beat the sound .
Do 100,000 miles!

@radinz1 Yeah I saw one of those on Autotrader a year a go. A very strange premise that car....
You sure the LC500 can impress Jay more than the F12? Doubt it
False dichotomy

Eventually I will own an M5, and an actual Volvo S60
Polestar...not just the special edition I once had.

Completely agree that lack of use is the biggest factor. Recently saw advert for a Daytona with 30,000 miles on it, 50 years old!! Can't imagine that would be too reliable!
Enjoy

Just a shame it's nearly 2 tonnes!
@@CharlieeDownesit’s not a razor sharp drive, more of a GT Bruiser imo.
LC 500 is great, but I couldn't live that front grille.
You get used to it!
So no sneering from this side of the pond but hearty thumbs up👍🏻
You work hard at something and it pays off, then absolutely, enjoy your success!
17:48 this is what your Channel is all about. You love cars - whether they are worth £1500 or £150,000. And that’s what I love about it.
Definitely do 100,000.
I want to hear you say, “ I told you so”.👊🏻👊🏻
I would love to see you do 100k miles on it!
Very kind thanks Peter
When I defrost the rear window of my golf 7 all of the DAB+ radio is terminated as well. Despite it not being red nor italian. this proofs my car is more like a Ferrari then I knew… Cool!
Reason for losing radio reception when using rear window defroster might be because they are using the defroster wires as the radio antenna
More power to you. Enjoy the dream and help the rest of us keep on dreaming.
Same design on Jaguars - but (SHOCK!) it works just fine. 🙂
I really appreciate the brutal honesty in this one. And the insight of not only your vehicle ownership philosophy but also how British people talk about money.
You tend to put out loud aspects I have thought perhaps in the past and with my ownership of cars. But your narrative is always bang on! thanks.
+1 for the 100k car! Also my Audis radio will cut out when i put the rear window demister on, so its not just an Italian issue!!! 😂
£25K Deposit and £1300 a month scares the hell out of me !
Thanks for the SHOUT OUT to us diecast collectors 👍🏾
Cheers James. Loved your rant about rocks and rust. Esp w rust in a wet place like Britain, (exactly like here in Michigan) about the only place where i wouldn't expect rust would be the desert (and you'd still have the rock chips lol).
Absolutely 100,000 to go on the clock. People thinking these types of cars can’t do that simply have no idea!
Always appreciate your honesty mate. I still hope you get the Lexus very soon 😀
Love to see you do 100k miles and a few track days !! Keep up the great work
