Let me start by saying how much I LOVE the Sony HX80, it's a fantastic camera for beginners. But there is one major issue / problem with it...

I have this camera and I want to live stream with it but the micro HDMI is right next to the tripod mount. How can I mouth this camera without getting the HDMI cord in the way?
I lost the usb cable to charge the camera, does anyone know which one to order?
I have had the same camera for about a year now and that was the first concern that I had about it as I use it on many different mounts for my TH-cam videos. My old Kodak Playsport Z3 has a worn out screw mount. I thought about gluing two 1/4 20 nuts to the bottom to use but I will pick up a few of these. Thanks for this very helpful tip. I may just put one in the HX80 now so I will not run in to the problem of a stripped out screw hole in the middle of a several day backpacking trip........Take care, Bluefin.
It's such an awesome little camera, I wish they would've considered how fragile those plastic pieces are. But I guess it depends how you use it! These little reducers will fix your problems and they're nice to have around just in case the only tripod laying around has a 3/8 tripod screw... happens way more than people think!

Can i use this camera as a webcam?
do u have a tip on what i can use to be able to put it on a tripod & use a micro HDMI to plug it to my PC w/the Elgato Cam Link 2 stream w/it? I can't figure anything out. I'd greatly appreciate any help

Hi Jordan - thanks for the video. What size drill bit did you use for the reducer installation? Also, I'd highly recommend anyone who is going to do this to use a drill press and set the depth stop precisely and increase depth a little at a time - prevents you from drilling too deep!
Great question & advice! I'll have to check the size of the bit and let you know... I left it a little snug so that it would be a tight fit for the new insert which is 3/8 outside diameter. So I'm guessing that it would've been a 5/16 bit to leave it snug.
I haven't run into that issue yet myself. But I could see it becoming a problem. Thanks for the tip!
+Anthony's Outdoors absolutely! I noticed mine getting loose at first and a few days later it was full blown stripped out 😕

Love the tips for this camera and all your vids. I've had my camera about a month and having a challenge getting goot macro shots to autofocus. I'll start zoomed out, then zoom in and loose focus and never really gets crisp or hear the "beep". I've also tried to focus zoomed out and physically move the camera in but this seems to do a little better but hard to do and still not great focus in macro. This is mainly with still shots, I've not tried much macro video yet. Any ideas appreciated.
What are the dimensions for the drill bit and reducer?
I might have a fix, maybe we can replace the metal tripod through with a plastic one to reduce the where on the thread in the camera. I guess you could go to Lowe's or Home Depot and find something plastic to use in place of the metal screw on the tripod. That's just an idea, I haven't tried it yet but I think it might be a solution?
Jordan, thanks for the info on the metal reducer. I love my HX80 as well and use it every day! Two questions: Where can I buy a new one at $255 (on Amazon & others @$318). And, Yesterday my battery door lockdown failed. There is a tiny piece on the housing that grabs the latch. I have attached velcro to hold down door. Do you have any suggestions?

I actually do not. When I was replacing it, I was pretty focused on not destroying the camera. haha. In hindsight, I wish I had.

maybe you can help me out. i accidentally dropped my hx80 awhile back and the lens automatically zooms out. when i turn it off and retracts back it does partially pop out a couple of times. anyway how to fix it?
Dang, it zooms in completely when you turn it on? Can you zoom out after that? I'm guessing that your issue is more of a structural issue after the drop. I'd try a camera shop to see what they think... I could just be something simple. Hopefully!
@@JordanHauserGbg i still manage to retract it out fully but not able to zoom back in at all. I was actually advised to buy a new one but i really want to get it fixed since its my 1st vlogging camera =(
+R13 ah man... that’s awful. Like I said, I would take it to a camera shop and see if they could do anything for you. If not you can do what I do… Retire that thing to a shelf as part of your camera collection and get a new one. LOL. I know it sounds crappy but it might be something that you just have to do unfortunately

There's no excuse for any company to cheap out on a penny part. My DSC-WX220 came with a metal 1/4-20 the newer one I got came with a plastic. Same camera but cheap plastic 1/4-20. It's companies trying to make more money just like the food industry shrinking down product size in one form or another & charging the same & these days raising prices. Why cause we the consumer are allowing it. Call & complain! The more we let things slide is why things are going the way they're going!

Thanks a lot, man! I've dropped a few pounds over the last few months. Yeah, I'm toying with some different lighting setups to give my videos a little flare and separation, so thanks for noticing! I'll have to see what I can come up with for that white wall... That big black thing is actually a "whiteboard" that I use for all of my business tasks. I haven't had that issue yet but its nice to know there's a solution. Let me know when you figure out how to fix the battery poppin out issue, I dropped the camera and broke it.

+Colin good question. So I had another camera back in the early 2000’s with the same issue, so I remembered that under that plastic insert was more plastic. So that’s why I wouldn’t go nuts and take too much material. As far as hope, there was quite a bit of that going on! Lol

what is even worse/funny is that the HX90/V (older model /$400+), as well as ALL other newer 'cheaper' Sony's point and shoot cameras (incl. WX500, etc..) are the SAME, they ALL have the plastic tripod socket.
*but prior to these models of HX90/V, HX95, HX80, WX500... they ALL have the METAL tripod sockets, that are the HX20V, HX30V, HX50/V and HX60/V. as well as ALL the oldest Sony Cyber-Shots cameras before these, that are the T and W Series models. smh

GREAT place for the HDMI plug. What idiot designed this? NO imag, NO live output, NO using this camera with Vmix or hardware switchers.
