I LOVE your video on the Sony HX-80 camera! I got my wife this camera several years ago. NOW...she has the camera out and can't use it! She has a movie mode screen she is stuck in. How does she get OUT of this screen please? Too, going by your instructions, how can she leave the video mode and get back to camera mode for still images? I cannot say THANK YOU enough!!!

I've referred back to this video multiple times. But this time after adjusting some settings to try to make smaller file size, and adjusting it back to the higher quality settings, the images are blurring and lagging. When I move the image on the viewfinder screen is delayed and blurring. I hoped it was only on the viewscreen but it turns out it's also on the video files themselves. Can you think of something that caused this, a setting I inadvertently changed? Or might the camera have crapped the best at the same time coincidentally?

Hi Jordan! I've had this camera for years just to use for photos and I STILL haven't figured out how to avoid over exposure outdoors (where its really bright). The background is always so bright (pretty much white) and foreheads have that terrible shine. I know you made these HX80 videos so long ago, but im wondering if you could help? I try to shoot in manual as well!

My pictures always look kind of blurry and only focus on the middle. Any recommendations on how to make pictures more crips avoiding that kind of blurry effect around? Is driving me crazy 😒😂

I made the same settings that you made in the video and the moment I pushed the recoding button it says: can’t record in this recording setting either switch to an SDXC class 10 or UHS-I compatible memory card, etc or change the file format! WHAT should I do! Please help? The memory I’m using is SanDisk Ultra 32GB
I would use the best setting for video that I showed you in this video... You should still be able to fire off stills in that mode as well. If not, you may have to go into .mp4. I would just go out and try it, see what you come up with and let us know!

I love this recently purchased camera because of its quirkiness. Its earned its place next to my two Canon EOS-for recons - its light and small and packs an 18Mp punch.. The Canon equivalent to it is frightfully bad !!
Ok, so I've got a question for you. I've had the HX80 for about four months now and I've been recording in mp4 because I assumed that the quality wouldn't be any worse and that it would be easier to work with. My question is what do you think that if I switched to XAVC S HD I would see a quality increase, and if so what file type would it be so that I'll know if it will work with my editor. The reason why I'm asking is that my current memory card does support XAVC S HD and if I'm not going to see any quality increases I don't want to buy the new card.
It still uses the .mp4 wrapper. When shooting in XAVC S HD the footage is recording at 50mb/s which is over double what a standard .mp4 records at. So, in theory, yes.. your footage will look better because it will have been recorded at a higher bit rate. This doesn't solve the light issue though... you still need a ton of light to make this camera preform at it's peak.
Hi, when I have my camera set on AVCHD it will not let me load it onto my mac or phone. Playmemories home only allows mp4. Please tell me how you load your videos to your computer :(
+Ashley Christine you physically have to take the SD card from the camera and attach it to your computer. Click on it and look through the files to find your footage :) simple

Shaya Sussman it may be a class issue.. do you have a fast sd card? Something like SDXC class 10? I would look at getting a faster card.. or maybe you have too much stuff on your card? Try erasing your card using the “format” function and giving it another shot!

XAVCS will not load on my mac. I am very frustrated. Is there any way I can use a different mixture of these settings so they will load into my photos album?
Hey Jordan! So I used an SD card I had laying around from an older camera and I couldn’t record anything except in MP4. What SD card do you recommend so that I can use it with with the best speed and HD quality. I’m new to all of this and your videos have been super helpful.

Question! I got this camera to record HD videos and to edit them on my iPad. I have the setting on XAVC S HD 60p. The play memories only imported my photos no videos. I got the usb camera adapter to plug into my iPad & again it only imported the photos! Any idea on what I should do?
Since you're editing the videos on an iPad and not a computer, I'm guessing that you will need to shoot in the MP4 setting. You should shoot a test clip in mp4 and see if you'll be able to import it. Hope that helps!!!!
+Light if you can’t shoot in that mode, I’d just use MP4... or upgrade your SD card. It’s worth the small investment to get the best footage possible 😉

He was also trying to get me back into TH-cam. Your video has given some much information in a short time. They only trouble I am having currently is transfering my photos/videos on to my macbook pro to create the videos. Please help!
+Stacy B. Awe, that’s awesome! So all you have to do is take the SD card from the camera and open it on your computer. If your computer doesn’t have an SD card slot, then you’ll have to buy a card reader that hooks up via usb to your computer... they’re super affordable;) Then just go through the card and find your video files. Super easy!
+Stacy B. Nope! There should be other folders maybe one called “ROOT” or something like that? Look in every single folder, it’s definitely in there. :)
Just guessing by those numbers that you gave me... You more than likely have the European version of this camera... or your camera is shooting in PAL not NTSC. Either one of those options is great! 25p is basically the same as 24p in the USA and the 50p is our "high speed" just like our 60p. Just make sure your editing sequence is set up for whichever frame rate you decide to shoot in. OR you can set your sequence at 25p and shoot in 50p and it will give you a nice "film look"

Thanks for this! I'm having issues with getting the correct settings for video when out and about, the camera keeps burning out and overexposing the light. I've tried to find an answer for this but can't! :( Anyone else having this issue?
+Jess Davies hey there! So first thing I’d do is check to make sure your camera is in manual mode so that you’re making all the decisions and not the camera. If it’s too bright you can lower the iso which will make the shot darker and give you a much clearer picture. If it’s still too bright then you can boost your aperture to a higher number to make it darker, something like f8 or f11. If you’re shooting in 24p you’ll want your shutter speed set at 1/50 and if you’re shooting in 60p then make the shutter 1/125. That should do it! Thanks for watching:)

I do..A lot of settings to get used too but i like it. Primarily wanted to flip screen and the cannon was too much just for that option.

XAVCS will not load on my mac. I am very frustrated. Is there any way I can use a different mixture of these settings so they will load into my photos album?

Hey Jordan! So I used an SD card I had laying around from an older camera and I couldn’t record anything except in MP4. What SD card do you recommend so that I can use it with with the best speed and HD quality. I’m new to all of this and your videos have been super helpful.

Question! I got this camera to record HD videos and to edit them on my iPad. I have the setting on XAVC S HD 60p. The play memories only imported my photos no videos. I got the usb camera adapter to plug into my iPad & again it only imported the photos! Any idea on what I should do?
Since you're editing the videos on an iPad and not a computer, I'm guessing that you will need to shoot in the MP4 setting. You should shoot a test clip in mp4 and see if you'll be able to import it. Hope that helps!!!!

+Light if you can’t shoot in that mode, I’d just use MP4... or upgrade your SD card. It’s worth the small investment to get the best footage possible 😉
What if you are just gonna use it for your TH-cam channel you are about for makeup would you still use the same settings??
Yep, these are the settings that I would use for anything tbh. They give the best look and that's important!
THANK YOU! My boyfriend bought this camera for me as a birthday gift last year because I love to record memories and compile them into a video at the end of the year. He was also trying to get me back into TH-cam. Your video has given some much information in a short time. They only trouble I am having currently is transfering my photos/videos on to my macbook pro to create the videos. Please help!
+Stacy B. Awe, that’s awesome! So all you have to do is take the SD card from the camera and open it on your computer. If your computer doesn’t have an SD card slot, then you’ll have to buy a card reader that hooks up via usb to your computer... they’re super affordable;)
Then just go through the card and find your video files. Super easy!

Why did I do exactly the same as you on the video settings, yet the only options it gave me was 50p 50M & 25p 50M?
Just guessing by those numbers that you gave me... You more than likely have the European version of this camera... or your camera is shooting in PAL not NTSC. Either one of those options is great! 25p is basically the same as 24p in the USA and the 50p is our "high speed" just like our 60p.
Just make sure your editing sequence is set up for whichever frame rate you decide to shoot in. OR you can set your sequence at 25p and shoot in 50p and it will give you a nice "film look"

Thanks for this! I'm having issues with getting the correct settings for video when out and about, the camera keeps burning out and overexposing the light. I've tried to find an answer for this but can't! :( Anyone else having this issue?
+Jess Davies hey there! So first thing I’d do is check to make sure your camera is in manual mode so that you’re making all the decisions and not the camera. If it’s too bright you can lower the iso which will make the shot darker and give you a much clearer picture. If it’s still too bright then you can boost your aperture to a higher number to make it darker, something like f8 or f11. If you’re shooting in 24p you’ll want your shutter speed set at 1/50 and if you’re shooting in 60p then make the shutter 1/125.
