- How To Fix Dyson DC59 V6 motorhead not spinning. Sometimes the electrical contacts inside is covered with dust and needs to be cleaned. This fix is for all Dyson DC59 V6 motor accessories that are not spinning.
I've had this vacuum for over 2 years and absolutely love it, I highly recommend it! I hope this fixes your vacuum so you can continue to use it!

I watched a video before I found yours and it did not work at all. It took 10x longer and required a special screwdriver (again, it didn’t work.) All your video required was a cotton swab. My Dyson is now fixed and I can get back to cleaning my filthy house. Thanks.

If you have the powered carpet attachment, connect that to the main unit & see if that turns. If it does you don’t need to do anything with the main unit. Time saver.
Worked like a dream, as with everyone else here I had already looked at how much a replacement would cost! Mine was definitely the connectors at the back - filthy!
You Sir are a Genius. I cleaned the terminals with cotton buds and a tiny drop of cleaner and it worked perfectly unlike following other vids when they were saying it was blocked. Thx again.

After nearly throwing this out in frustration i took it apart, cleaned it, put it back together and still the brush wouldn't turn. Thank you for this video that pointed out cleaning the contacts may be the problem - it was and this cleaner has gone from zero to hero in our house!

Thanks so much. I had priced a replacement motorhead and it was $150. All I had to do was clean lint of the connectors!!!!

By V7 they changed the design of the last contracts you cleaned so they aren't so exposed and don't get so dirty. Cleaning what contacts I could, with actual contact cleaner spray, didn't get my motorhead spinning again. But I noticed, when I attached it direct to the vacuum cleaner, like you, that it sometimes spun, only when I moved the articulated joint into one certain position. This told me the problem was with the wiring or connections in the articulated joint.
I got the T8 torx driver out and dismantled the motorhead. I found the trail of wiring from the connectors to the motor. I also learned that rewiring or repairing and rebuilding it was going to be beyond my capabilities but that didn't really matter to me because the thing was knackered, anyway. I did manage to fault-find the exact fault, though, which was interesting.
Inside the articulated joint were tiny, thin, fragile, black and red wires which were allowed to, kind of, float free, inside the joint as it moves, while you vacuum. They had a lot of pinch marks in the plastic insulation from being, periodically, trapped between moving parts, as they moved, inside the moving joint. Then, as I moved the wires about with my fingers, the red one broke, without me applying much force of any kind.
That explained the intermittent nature of the fault (it working when I held the motorhead and joint in a certain position). The wire was almost broken, or was broken, inside the joint but made a connection if you held it a certain way.
Like the problem you fixed was actually a design fault on the V6, the problem I found is probably a design fault inherent in most, if not all, models.
No way could I have rewired, soldered or rebuilt the head. Well, maybe I could have if I had bought a soldering iron and had a lot of patience and luck but I just thought 'time for a new motorhead'.
If your brush isn't working, I'd suggest move the head and joint around while your finger is on the button. If it works in one, or some, positions and not others, all your contacts are clean enough and the wires inside the articulated joint of the motorhead have been pinched, damaged and are about to break, inside and it's definitely time for a new head.
You can go ahead and service your contacts, filters and clean the canister, too, while you're doing your fault finding, anyway.
It's amazing how dirty you never knew your Dyson was, when you have it and all the bits right up at your eyes, when you are doing a job like this.
It never fixed my problem, but it was an interesting and educational video, all the same and I'm glad that I watched it.

Great video; sadly it did not fix my problem. I have two motorheads; I cleaned the spindles out on both of them; that fixed one but not the other. The issue isnʻt with the connection; at least now I know that. Also isnʻt with the spindle, or the hand-held part. It has to be the motorhead itself.

I have a V8 that looks similar. Same problem with motorhead not doing anything , but on another v8 it does. So I know it’s not the head. I took it apart like you mentioned and cleaned the connectors , even though they weren’t that dirty. But it’s still not working. Any other suggestions?

Just received my second warranty replacement from Dyson. They are factory refurbished and look like new.
First one had flashing red light which indicates defective battery.
Next one has no power to beater powerhead brush.
Did cleaning like they and you advised but no success.
Awaiting their further instruction.
Almost 2 months after purchase and neither unit has worked 5 seconds.
Very frustrated.
darn, I'm sorry to hear you've had such bad experience with Dyson. I'd recommend getting them on the line and demand that they send you a working one! Don't give up hope, once you get one that works well, they are very reliable, I've had mine for years! (I did buy it brand new). I hope you get a working Dyson soon! Received my warranty replacement motor and bin and followed the enclosed instructions to swap the battery from the original unit and voila I now have power to the electrically powered brush.

Still didn’t work for me I had already tried this. Checking with a meter on the contacts on the power head reads no power but vacuum works.. wondering if a wire broke off where it is soldered on behind it..
Hi Hargak, Sorry my solution didn't work for you. If you're not getting power to the contacts, then you've got to dig deeper than what was covered in this video. Good luck, my friend! 👍
